Called and left a message regarding what I needed. Shane called back within a couple hours and quoted the job (I wasn't able to take his call but he left a detailed message on the pricing). I called the next morning and asked if they could come out the following morning to do the job and he was able to come out. Shane arrived exactly when he said he would, I showed him the screens and the wooden screen doors, he got his tools and went right to work. He did great work, cleaned up all debris, the price was exactly as he quoted and the screens and doors look great. I would definitely use Screens N Things again. A pleasure to do business with.
Description of Work: We needed 11 window screens redone as well as 2 wooden screened patio doors re-splined as the original company who put in the doors used too small of spline and the screens kept coming undone.

I was quite pleased with the entire experience! Shane Johnson, the owner of the company, responded promptly to my call. Two days later he came to my home to give me an estimate. Three days after that he came back to do the work himself. It took him less than one hour to finish. The screen looked great, as good as new. Shane left the area just as he found it. He was friendly, courteous, and efficient. He explained everything that he did and actually asked me to inspect his work! I could not be happier. I would highly recommend Screens 'n' Things and Shane Johnson for anyone's screening needs. I will certainly use this company again should the need arise.

Shane gave me an estimate over the phone and came over the next day. He arrived on time and was very courteous and professional. He replaced the damaged screen on my sliding patio door. The new screen looks excellent. He cleaned up after himself which was an added bonus. The total charge was $50.00 which I feel was very reasonable considering the complexity of the repair and the fact that he did the job outside in 5 degree temperature. I gave him a tip for his hard work. I would definitely use him again and recommend him highly.

The appointment had to be changed a couple of times, but Shane did an excellent job of communicating with me. I wasn't certain that I wanted the pet screen vs regular screen. Shane agreed to have both available and let me decide after seeing how each would look in my windows. After looking at the two screens I was concerned that the darker pet screen wouldn't let enough light into the house. Shane told me that the difference would be negligible. With that I decided upon the pet screen and am extremely pleased with the job Shane did. And he was right..I am getting plenty of light inside. He is very personable and polite. He even adjusted a sliding screen door without a charge. I will have Shane return if I am ever in need of his services again and can highly recommend him without hesitation.
Description of Work: Shane replaced the screening in eight screens, They were old nylon screens and were sun-damaged and falling apart. Additionally a stray cat had clawed some large holes in a couple of screens while trying to get inside and have a conversation with my indoor cats.

I had Shane give us an estimate for work in September of 2012. We needed several areas replaced on our screened in porch as well as 2 new screens for our front windows. Due to several "life has its own schedule" moments I kept putting off having the work done. Shane was great about working with us and rescheduling....finally a year later we were able to have the work done. I appreciate that Shane didn't have to redo the estimate after a year. The quality of work he did is great. Every email I sent he answered promptly. He was very easy to work with. I would definitely use Shane and Screens N Things again.

First, the original install date was pushed out. I was offered a $50.00 discount for inconvenience. That was "tacked" back on to the estimate because unforseen materials needed to be purchased. I had new outdoor carpet installed and the workers made no attempts at protecting the carpet. My brother-in-law saw what was happening and had to vacuum the existing mess and use his own tarp to protect the carpet. The crew left nails/screws on the floor and did not clean up. Steve (crew member) stated Shane should have never taken this job on, he was upset while here. On the first day of installation, the workers did not complete the work and could not give me a date as to when they would return. I immediately contacted Shane (owner) with questions regarding fencing and expected a return call that evening to state when I could expect completion of the job. He did not return my call until 2 days later. One of his workers returned approximately one week later and worked for most of the afternoon. However, the job was still not completed on the second attempt to do so. He returned the following day, worked on the porch for a few hours and stated he had done all he could do. There are "ripples" in the screen because it was not installed/stretched correctly. Steve (crew member) stated that doing this "correctly" was next to impossible because he was doing the job on a ladder and could not be "eye-level" with the installation of the screen and that scaffolding would have made the job easier. The owner (Shane) came to the home that evening and did a walk through stating he could not complete the job and stated, "You will have to find someone to complete the work". There are safety issues. The fence was not replaced and it "dangles" off the porch. There is a 30 foot drop off the porch. I have small animals and occassional visits from small children. If either one were to fall from this porch due to no safety fencing, it would most certainly be DEADLY. The job was left in a condition that is NOT UP TO CODE. I paid Shane what he stated was owed per the invoice. This is not about monetary issues. It was apparent that he was not fully knowledgable regarding the complexity and proper tools/equipment that would be needed to see this job to its satisfactory completion. However, upon initial meeting, I was assured that I would be satisfied with the results. I intend to pursue this issue further. Shane was told about the problems the crew was having and he NEVER once worked on the job to try and correct the problems. I now have to hire another contractor to complete the job. I have used Angie's list many times and have NEVER been disappointed, until now. I am shocked at the professionalism, no regard for completing a job, no regard for a persons property

Response from Screens N Things
First off, I would like to state that Screens n Things is not a fence company. In addition, I never charged the customer for the removal and reinstallation of the fence, nor was it in the scope of the work on the estimate. In fact, when my installer Steve went out to the job site to check the fence he expressed the concern that the fence was going to be difficult to remove because it was attached with poultry staples. These staples went six inches into the wood. I advised the customer that the removal of the fence would damage the wood. I did give the customer a $50.00 credit for having to push the install date out and I also gave her a $100.00 credit because we couldn't stretch the fence back the way it was. I didn't even charge the customer for removal and installation of the fence but gave her $100 credit anyway which she told me helped. I wonder why she failed to mention that credit and the fact that she told me the $100 credit would be fine toward the cost of her having the fence reattached by a fence company. The customers lumber on the exterior of the porch was rotted, which is no fault of my company, nor was the damage to the wood from removing the fence, because I notified the customer before we even started the job that there would be damage to wood and she did not express any concerns. Of course I am going to charge her for the new lumber, the painting of the new lumber, the cutting of the new lumber, and the installation of the new lumber. If I wouldn't have given her any credits, that would have been $150.00 more that should would have had to pay. As far as the carpet, I was never informed that this was new carpet nor was any concern expressed to me in "protecting" it. Wood, screen, and dust falling on the carpet is nothing out of the ordinary and can simply be vaccuumed up. If the customer wanted the carpet covered, she should have mentioned something during my conversations with her and her daughter so that my installers could have brought a tarp. It was an outdoor carpet on an outdoor screend porch. Not sure how she is going to "protect" it from the elements, i.e. moisture, dust, pollen, etc. because the carpet is exposed to the outside. My installers did clean up as I met my installer after the job and saw all of the trash in the back of his van. It is possible that they may have missed a few nails or screws but nowhere to the extent this customer is making it out to be. I spoke with my installer Steve and he stated that he never told the customer that I should never have taken the job. He said he told the customer how difficult of a job it was but never said the words that I never should have taken it. I spoke with the customer and her daughter at great length, both on the phone, and in person, and none of this was brought to my attention. This is the first time I am hearing about the carpet, the first time I am hearing about the screws and nails, the first time that Steve supposedly said I shouldn't have taken the job. I just think the customer is upset that it was not a perfect job as she has envisioned it, and is going to the upmost to descredit my company and to throw me under the bus for a fence that was never even part of the scope of the job and she was not charged for. The installers did not complete the job on the first day because they spent 4 hours trying to remove 25ft of fence as a courtesy to the customer. They didn't know when they could come back because their intent was to finish that day and had no idea that it would take a half a day just to remove the fence, but again, I did not charge the customer for the fence removal. I also did not charge her to try and put the fence back up but did give her $100 credit to please her. When the customer did call me immediately and left a message asking if she should by a different fence, I returned her call two days later after I got a hold of my installer and advised her that she did not need to by a new fence because the hold up was the removing of it. I also advised her that I did not return her call immediately because I did not have an anwer for her about the fence until I talked to Steve two days later due to the weekend. I called her as soon as I had an answer and she was fine with my response. Now all of the sudden this is now a concern of hers. The workers did return a week later once they were able to free up a day and yes they did not get it done that day either. The screening of a porch takes as long as it takes. This porch was 40 feet off of the ground and on the side of a hill and as far as difficulty was an 11 out of 10, but the installers did complete the rescreening of the porch on the third visit. I do admit that there are some ripples in the screen but the ripples cannot be seen from the inside, except in one spot, and this is a porch that extends out into the woods. I advised the customer that Steve did the best he could because there are only certain areas where you can put the ladder and Steve did all he could to reach and stretch the screen. Yes there are a few ripples, but the screens are still functional. When I told the customer all of this she was fine with it and even wrote me a check for the total, less the $150.00 in credits I gave her. This customer DID NOT pay the balance that was stated on the invoice as I took off an adittional $100 at the time she paid, but I guess that was not worth her mentioning. The customer states that scaffolding would have made it easier but what she doesn't understand is that it would have cost about an additional $1500, if not more, to set up scaffolding 40 feet in the air around two sides of the porch on a hill. If the customer wants to pay for the scaffolding and the installation and removal of it by a scaffolding company, I will come out and redo the whole porch at no charge. I did do a walkthrough with the customer and I never stated in my quote that I would remove and reinstall the fence. We attempted to do so as a courtesy to the customer but could not do it. I advised the customer that we are not a fence company and that yes, should would need to contact a fence company to properly reinstall it, again, I never charged the customer for the removal and installation of the fence so therefore my company should not be liable for it. I will also again state, that even though I did not charge the customer for the removal and re-installation of the fence I gave her $100 toward the cost of having it reinstalled by a fence company. I was NEVER told about the problems the crew was having. I even spoke to the owners daughter on the phone and she told me that Steve fixed the areas she was concerned about. The owners daughter also told me that everything looked fine. I will again state that I was never told about the carpet, I was never told about the nails and screws, I was never told about the comments that the installers supposedly made. I left the job with a check in my hand thinking everything was okay and now finding out through a report post that the customer was not happy. My alternate resolution is that the customer contact and pay a scaffolding company to come out and put up scaffolding around the porch. I will then come out and rescreen the entire porch at no additional charge. I will want the $100.00 back I gave her for the fence since she told me this was acceptable at the time but now it is not, and since I did not put the removal and the reinstallation of the fence on the quote, nor did I charge for it, I feel that once the porch is completed to her satisfaction that I should get this $100 back.

A perfect example of a service provider who is easy to do business with. I received a call ahead at the time he said he would be at my home so I set the screen in the garage for him. I stepped out into my garage and he had already completed the screen and cleaned up perfectly. I wish all contractors and service providers were this easy to work with!!!
