I called John after seeing his excellent reviews on Angie's List. He responded to my vm within one day. He worked quickly hauling everything and even raked the small limbs that had fallen out of his truck as he was loading it. Excellent service! He is so professional and good at what he does. Friendly too! Will definitely call again in the future for any landscaping and hauling needs.

 + 0 moreHow'd it go? You probably won't believe how it went: John Schott did all the work himself, including all the hauling and cleaning the work site, in 2 days--actually, a day and a half. (We did not request or require that the work be done so promptly, but it helped us tremendously that this was so. It got us back with our other contractor's schedule.) We also came to appreciate the various kinds of expertise--in electrical systems, in plumbing, in heating and cooling systems--needed in deconstructing our basement. John Schott had the knowledge required, but we suspect this would not be so with all providers in the categories he specializes in. Working in anyone's home can be trying, so we appreciated also John Schott's courtesy, professionalism, and responsibility. He understood what we needed; he did the work he said he would do, for the price he said he would charge, finishing before he said he would; and he communicated clearly and helpfully.
Description of Work: Our basement was a neglected and unpleasant place: wet, cluttered, moldy, a site of foul smells and an avenue of broken dreams. We were in the process of remodeling our small bungalow home, and clearing and remediating the basement was an important foundation job (yes, pun intended). We asked the provider to clear the basement of the approximately 50 cartons, 20 bookcases, and 100 other items to be carried up the stairs and disposed of. Besides the clutter, the crumbling drop ceiling and underlying joists, old linoleum. and warped paneling had to be stripped and hauled, as did several built-in features (a workbench, a cabinet). We were working with another contractor with whom the provider would have to communicate, and we were working around the Labor Day holiday. While we attempted to have things arranged as well as possible for the provider, in fact we suspect we had the dazed moon faces of candidates for alien abduction, which meant we weren't so clear as communicators ourselves. However, we did compile a list of the various things we needed done and asked for an estimate from another provider, whom we ended by calling and writing 6 times; we never received the estimate, and we'd lost about 2 weeks. We sent John Schott the same request, he viewed the basement, and the turnaround for an estimate was about a day. We accepted his estimate, which proved to be almost exactly on the nose--a bit higher because we'd forgotten to list all the items we needed hauled. (We were helped on the final bill by the Angie's List coupon.) We were helped by the useful Website for Schott Services and the fact that John Schott uses email in addition to other means of communicating.

 + 1 moreJohn actually called to check whether he could come earlier and it worked out pretty well. He checked on things that I wanted him to take and not to take. He did a wonderful job and even helped move a couple of pieces from one area to the other. He swept up when he was finished and placed the few items that I wanted to keep back in place. He definitely did a great job and made things less overwhelming. I have used him before to dispose of other items and will definitely use him in the future.
Description of Work: I had quite a bit of junk leftover for a lot of years from the kids. I also am somewhat of a pack rat. Now that two of the kids have moved out and I have two more to go, I needed to get rid of all the old stuff that was left behind. I also had some broken box-springs and a sleeper sofa that has seen better days. John came and Took queen box spring, metal headboard, foot board, yard barn contents, sleeper sofa, basement room contents. I had purchased the Angie's List deal for $375, but I had a large yard barn filled with stuff that looked like something from "Hoarders" and he offered to take it all. In addition I had a broken TV he needed to take.

 + 4 moreJohn was EXCELLENT in every aspect of the process. He was quick to schedule the work, and showed up when he said he would. Even the job went quickly. He was also very very interested in doing the job in such a way as to allow us to be as efficient with our $$ as possible. We had an old parking pad made out of gravel on one part of our corner lot. We did not want to park there anymore, as it was dangerous to enter and exit from that road. We wanted a driveway put in alongside the house, entering and exiting from the less dangerous road that our house sits on. He dug up all the grass and dirt, placed it in a different section of the lot. He even pulled up a couple of small trees and ground them down. Then he dug up all of the gravel from our old pad and used it as the base for the new driveway, allowing us to save $$ on buying more gravel to use as a base. In an effort to save us $$ on hauling away all the dirt, he then used that dirt in the place where our gravel pad used to be, and converted it back to grass for us. He put the top layer of gravel down and made sure it looked great before he left. We are very very pleased with the service. This was a long driveway so we are very pleased with the price as well. We will most certainly be calling John for future services. We have a lot of landscaping to do...

The work was pretty straightforward. He took the stuff that I wanted him to and then he also moved a piece of exercise equipment upstairs just as an extra thing.
