Re-side’s crews receive ongoing training, and our jobs are randomly audited by James Hardie's installation trainer to make sure critical installation procedures are followed. After getting estimates from four siding companies (two fiber cement, two vinyl siding), David was the clear choice in terms of price and confidence in the quality of service. We were surprised to find that he could not only handle the siding and the painting, but also the replacement of our gutters and one problem window. The prices for each individual piece of work were comparable or better than estimates received from companies that specialize only in those areas. Once the work began a week or two after signing our choice was affirmed. In spite of unseasonable heavy rain in June, David's crews managed to stay on schedule by arriving early and staying late on the days the weather allowed them to work. We were pleased not only with the efficiency of the crews, but with their friendly and courteous manner as well. They never left the site messy or unsafe after a day's work and were always open to questions. David himself was also very accessible via email or phone and made daily stops to the work site to monitor progress. Upon completion of the work two weeks after starting the only evidence of the army of workers that had spent so much time there was our beautiful new siding, gutters and paint job. Although it was not our motivation for having the work done it has been fun to hear all of the oohs and ahhs from the neighbors! If you are interested in having your house re-sided, and particularly if you are interested in having it done with fiber cement, David should be on the top of your list.
Description of Work: Complete residing with fiber cement board, complete exterior paint job, new gutters, and one window replacement.

Stopped and talked to David at home show in February to give us an estimate on replacing siding along front of house and replacing windows. He contacted us about a week after the show was over. We told him we were interested in employing his services; he gave us a date of between March 22 and April 2 when work would start and be completed. He contacted us around March 25th to let us know that work would begin on the 30th. His crew showed up when expected on the following Tuesday, removed old vinyl siding, installed weather barrier, and then the fibercement siding. They were careful not to damage the shrubs/trees next to house where they were working and once they finished they picked up and cleaned up any debris and loaded it on a trailer. David showed up later that afternoon to get trailer, answer any questions, and hauled everything off. Another crew came 2 days later and replaced windows. They also replaced wood around garage door where I had questioned there being water damage from gap in previous siding, and turned out there was a small area; they replaced wood and it looked much better. They took their time and did a great job through the whole process. David stopped by later to check on work. We painted siding after they were all finished. David stopped by a few days later to pick up final payment and to see the final result. The house looks so much better and we are really happy with the new windows. We had David replace siding along east and south sides of home a few years ago and were really happy with the results then too. He's very professional and great to work with. He's always answered any questions either of us have had and always done what he said. When we're ready to remodel home in a few years, we will contact him again to finish the siding and install any additional windows.
Description of Work: Removed existing siding, Installed weather barrier and fibercement siding. Removed old and installed energy-efficient windows.

David Mills was very professional and thorough in his communication to us and met with us on several occasions before, during, and after the work was completed. He worked with our insurance company in the the hail damage claim. He met with our insurance claim adjusters at our home on several occasions and assisted us in the speaking to the national disaster claim office of our insurance company. David Mills and his workmen were very detailed and did excellent work in completing the work to be done. The workmen cleaned up after themselves, answered my questions, and did professional work on our home. David Mill several times went the extra mile to do things not included in the hail damage. Re-side at our direction repaired our deck, painted our storage barn to match our house and went to extra mile to make, paint, and install keystone gable point trim to the peaks of our house.,
Description of Work: Re-Side, owner David Mills, provided excellent service in replacing the siding, downspouts, gutters, deck repair, and painting our home following hail storm damage. .

We had hail damage to our aluminum siding from Spring of 2009. There was a delay in our insurance claim so we didn't ask for an estimate until Fall of 2009. Our claim was for 3 sides of aluminum siding. I called several companies to give us quotes. I called David Mills because they had completed several jobs in our neighborhood. He was quick to respond and presented a professional quote that was very competitive. The quote was thorough and David explained every aspect of the work that was to be completed. His crew arrived on time completed the work in a timely manner and cleaned up when finished. David installed cement siding and replaced rotted boards which were discovered during the installation. The quote included painting of the home once the siding was installed. Because of weather constraints, the home was painted this Spring. The dramatic change of the home and the economical value of the siding has, in my opinion, increased the value of our home, as well as made our property much more attractive. David also quoted for gutters and was extremely competitive. The crew showed up on time, did a fantastic job and completed the installation in one day. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the work, professionalism, promptness and attention to detail from David and his crew. I would highly recommend his company. Be sure to compare all aspects of a quote as other quotes didn't include all work completed (additional quote for painting, etc.).

I called Re-Side for an estimate. David Mills came out and explained his product. He also provided references that I could see the type of work that he does. After getting our estimates and deciding to go with Re-Side, the date was set for the work. His crew came out and installed the siding the first day...The first layer was Tyepac and the siding was fiber cement board. The edges were trimmed in cedar and all outlets were trimmed. It rained and the painting was delayed a couple days. It was painted with 2 coats of paint. At all times was David Mills very professional, listened well and worked to provide excellent workmanship and customer service.

Overall, the look came out great. I do have a leak somewhere that occurred around the same time the siding went up. I have not identified if that leak is from the siding or the roof. I will figure that out shortly when a roofing contractor comes out. I have not received my referral bonus yet, so that kind of bothers me, hence the D for responsiveness. Was told they go out with the Christmas cards, but didn't see anything.

He was wonderful, he had some problems and didn't charge me extra. His bid was in the middle of the others I got. He was very responsive and patient. A year later I noticed I had a leak in my downstairs and he came immediately. He showed me it wasn't from the siding, the cable guy had done something to cause the leak. He didn't come with equipment, but he left and got some then came back and made the repair with no hassle. He has been excellent, he always calls me back within a day of me calling him. He is professional and puntucal and I would use him again in the future

During the installation we saw that the new siding was installed and caulked next to rotten cedar trim in several areas. This was surprising because during the initial meeting David said that all rotten cedar would be replaced. When we asked David about the rotten trim he said that we hadn't completed the final walk through yet. We repeatedly had to point out various installation issues throughout the whole installation. Several times during the installation process I asked David about insurance. He always had a positive repsonse, saying that he?s been in contact with them... Shortly before the final walkthrough I called my insurance to see if Re-Side had contacted them. My insurance had records of all the times my roofing company contacted them but nothing from Re-Side. When David was out later that afternoon I inquired about his correspondence with my insurance ? he said that he talked to the insurance yesterday? I told him that was interesting because they had no record of his call. He had no response to this. The fact that David lied to us on multiple occasions about insurance made it difficult to trust anything that he said about the siding. He had excuses for every anomaly in the siding installation and none of it was Re-Sides fault. For example, blaming a wavy wall appearance on bad framing of our house, even though the James Hardie installation instructions have a strong caution on overdriving the siding nails because it can cause a wavy appearance. Since we?re not building experts it?s difficult to tell whether it was the framing or overdriven nails. Speaking of nails, there were siding nails, blue washer things, cut off water bottles used to hold nails and pop cans all over our yard! Our SUV even got a flat tire and the tire shop pulled out a siding nail!! Luckily we got a new roof after the siding was complete so the roofers picked up the remaining siding trash that was left behind. When we met with David to provide the final payment, we asked what he found out with insurance and he said that he would be sending them a fax later that evening with all the detailed documentation they would need. Overall we like the fiber cement siding. If we were to do it again, we would hire a James Hardie Preferred Contractor.
Description of Work: We contacted Re-Side after our vinyl siding was damaged by hail since we were interested in replacing it with James Hardie fiber cement siding. During our initial meeting David Mills said that he would handle the insurance for us - working with them before, during and after the project was completed. He provided a detailed proposal and his quote was good compared to other estimates we received so we decided to go with him on the siding. We also decided to use Re-Side to replace our gutters but opted to go with another company for our roof replacement.

Response from Re-Side Fiber Cement Siding Inc
I am often hired by customers that ask me to work with their insurance company to ensure that they are receiving accurate compensation for their storm damage. If additional damage is found during the project… it is submitted in a supplemental claim at the completion of the project. This customer expected me to file a supplement for trim that had not been damaged by the storm. ** American Family Insurance agreed to pay this homeowner for ½ their roof and a full vinyl siding replacement. The roofing contractor found enough additional damage to get the insurance company to pay for the entire roof. That additional roof damage payment created an unfair expectation for Re-side. The homeowners assumed that we would find enough additional damage to pay for the higher priced James Hardie fiber cement siding. ** The homeowners received $8901 for vinyl siding and $0 for trim. The James Hardie proposal was $16,392 and included 704 ft. of new trim. James Hardie was approved by American Family under the condition that the homeowners pay the difference between the two products. Under the homeowners direction I reduced new trim in my proposal by 28% and eliminated painting. Their project’s final price was $11,726, just $2,825 more than the vinyl siding payment. ** Prior to starting the homeowners asked me to find additional hail damaged trim. I walked the house the day we started and didn’t find any new storm damage. On day 2, the homeowner called to say that they found trim damaged by the storm and it needed to be submitted to American Family. The trim had mildew spots... it wasn’t storm damaged. ** Re-side did not install siding next to rotten cedar. We did install siding next to thinly painted 17 yr old cedar that was spotted with mildew. My crew installed 516 ft of new cedar trim on this house. We offered to replace the other trim in question, but the homeowners had reached their financial limits. ** This home was built by a production builder and wrapped with foam sheathing. The studs on the walls of the 300+ homes in this neighborhood aren’t straight. In their installation guidelines James Hardie states,” Irregularities in framing and sheathing can mirror through the finished application”. I could have eliminated their wavy walls by replacing the 78 sheets of foam board with 78 sheets of OSB, but the cost was prohibitive. ** We do our best to leave our jobsites clean. My siding crew picked up aluminum nails and trash each evening before we left. I picked up nails and trash multiple times on this job because my painters were not going to be painting or performing our final project clean-up. I would have paid for their tire repair had I been informed of the damages. ** The home was painted by a retired relative who had never worked with James Hardie siding. He ignored the written guidelines that I provided and caulked all the flashing gaps that are required for warranty. The James Hardie and cedar trim were finished with only one coat of paint. ** I did not lie to the homeowners about my contact with their insurance provider. On the day that I collected the final payment I faxed a $194.14 supplemental claim to American Family for 12’ of 1x6 cedar trim and 26’ of additional guttering. The homeowners had hoped this supplemental claim would be closer to the $2,825 needed to cover the difference in cost of the two products. ** This is the only time that Re-side has received a grade lower than an A for work that we have performed. Please review our other 38 reports and 13 Page of Happiness Nominations for a more accurate description of a Re-side Siding Experience.

David Mills was very easy to work with. When I had a question for him, he was always very prompt with his response. He surveyed the work each day. If something wasn't perfect, it was fixed the next day. His crews showed up on time each day and stayed until the work was done. It looks like we live in a new house - windows, siding and paint are all fabulous.

The project went smooth from the beginning to the end. David always kept us updated. His people arrived on time and he finished the job in time.
Description of Work: We own a historic house from the 1890s. When we bought it, the old wood siding was covered with a cheap vinyl siding. After a fire damaged one side of our house, we asked several companies to quote us how much it would be to only repair the damaged side of our house and to quote the complete replacement of the siding with fiber cement. David's quote was not the cheapest, but his references, his explanations and his approach to the project made us go with him. We ended up giving him a contract to reside the whole house, to paint it and to manage an insulation company which would blow cellulose in between our walls.

A few weeks went by with no contact. I called and left a message and waited for him to return my call. Again, I got no response. I called again and managed to get him on the phone. He said that I live next to his competitor, and he assumed that I was price shopping. He said I seemed to know too much about what I was talking about. I explained that I wanted him because of his ratings on Angie's List, and he agreed that he would come out. That was 2 weeks ago, and I still haven't heard back from him. I gave him every opportunity in our conversation to tell me that he didn't want to do the job, but he insisted that he had the availability in his schedule and would be able to come out. I probably wouldn't use him now if he did call, because of the poor way he has chosen to treat me.

Response from Re-Side Fiber Cement Siding Inc
The homeowner contacted me on July 3rd and said that she wanted to re-side her home before the end of summer. Her detailed scope of work sounded like it was scripted and she used siding industry terminology like she was a siding project manager. I asked if she had re-sided a home before with fiber cement and she said she had not. On Monday July 6th I visited her home in Zionsville and was surprised when I discovered that she lived next door to a competitor that had previously worked for me. I looked at her siding and it was still in good condition. Suspecting that I was being shopped by my competitor I left. The homeowner called the following week and asked if I was ready to meet. I asked her why she didn’t use her neighbor to re-side her home. There was a long pause… and she answered that she wanted a proposal from me. I told her that I was afraid that she was shopping me for pricing and said I didn’t want to quote her home. She claimed that she wasn’t and demanded a proposal. I attempted to measure her house a second time and my competitor waved to me while mowing his lawn. It didn’t feel right… I did not provide her with a proposal. Check her report history…. She gave an A rating to a Zionsville based competitor for re-siding her home in 2004. On a side note… she did not re-side her home in 2009. I believe she was price shopping me for her neighbor.

David came and met with me for 1.5 hours, explained the entire process, showed me pictures of completed jobs he and his team worked on. I signed contract, and he started work 2 weeks later. Put a large bin on my drive way and kept all materials cleanly picked up. A few of my flowers were destroyed by the workers as they needed to work closely to the house to remove and put up the new siding. David came to the job site daily and spoke with the workers and with my wife and I. He is very professional. We had many neighbors come over to our house as the project was going on and talk to us about the process. The painting took one day for the house, screened porch, mini barn and fence. His team is a machine working very well together. He came the final day and asked if we had any questions, and how we liked it. Our neighbors all think our home should be in a high scale neighborhood after the job was completed. Our home is totally tranformed. Cocoon to butterfly. The project was very well planned and executed by David and his team.

When we told them that our 1923 home had lead paint on the old siding, Mr. Mills indicated that he was aware of the issues with lead paint, and that they would tarp the area when they took down the old siding, and would clean up afterwards. The process was smooth and simple for us. We called David and he came out by appointment and looked at our home. He took pictures of each side of the house and said he would prepare a proposal. He was going on vacation and said it would be two weeks before he got back to us. Two weeks later, he called and made an appointment. He brought a color proposal with photos of our home detailing everything that needed to be done. He patiently explained what had happened to our siding and the attributes of cement siding. He offered two vendors of siding for us to choose from. The presentation was polite and without pressure. He answered questions simply so we could understand exactly what we were about to have done. He then allowed my wife and I to "think about it." His quote was itemized and good for 30 days. We called a week later and said we were ready to move forward and could we have the addresses of a couple of homes to look at. He provided that and we made an appointment to sign the contract. At that appointment, David reviewed the contract line by line and page by page. It was simple and not overly legalistic. We signed and gave a check for the deposit and he said his workers would arrive the following Monday about 8:30am subject to any changes in the weather. The work would take about three and one half days to complete. The workers arrived on Monday and worked hard. They were focused on the task and even worked overtime on one day because it was projected to rain the next day. The siding was completed in three days. Then the painters arrived and went to work. In one 10 hour day they painted the entire home, gutters, soffits, siding in two color matched colors exactly the colors we had asked for. The painting was beautiful and our home is now the show place on a street of 35 year old homes.
Description of Work: Cedar siding was removed. House was wrapped in Typar and new concrete siding by Certainteed was installed. House was completely painted with two coats of paint.

Although he had no assurance that he would get the job (especially since I was not the owner of the house), Mr. Mills did a very thorough estimating job, including detailed photos describing all the errors made by a previous installer. His price seemed right in line with other estimates, but his was BY FAR the most detailed and informative. I forwarded the estimate to the owner (through the realtor), but unfortunately we were unable to come to terms with the owner and abandoned our bid for the house. ($12,000)

Everything went very smoothly and we couldn't have been more excited with the final product. David did a wonderful job of explaining every step of the process, and his crew was exactly on time and professional. Made a point to clean up the area every single day when they were finished, not just at the end of the project. The difference in the way our home looks is AMAZING!
Description of Work: We had aluminum siding removed and replaced with cedar trim and fiber cement siding. The entire house (excluding brick and the back porch, which we did ourselves) was repainted.

David Mills met with both of us to describe in detail what was needed and expected in this project. He was very professional and kept us up-to-date on the progress of the project throughout. His crew were generally careful and kept things picked up and neat at the end of each day. The results of the siding and painting on our house are neat and well done. We are happy with the results.
Description of Work: Re-side removed LP siding from our home and replaced it with fiber cement siding. In the process, they also did a new house wrap for better insulation. They also painted the siding and all the trim on our house. A planter box on our deck needed some repair and they did that as well.

After interviewing 4 different siding companies, we compared their [sometimes contradicting] sales pitches, checked out several references from each one, called each back with questions and happily selected Re-Side. We typically do our own work on our house, primarily due to extremely poor experiences with contractors in the past. However, after meeting with David Mills, we felt he understood our high expectations and was most interested in maintaining the architectural detail of our Arts & Crafts style of home. While we had contracted David to start on a specific date, we had an unexpected personal conflict come up and David gladly moved the start date to meet our need. We also hired an insulation company to "top off" the old insulation in our walls. David coordinated that task to be complete before the siding project was to begin. The supplies and dumpster arrived the day before the work was to begin so the workers could start right in the next day. It was amazing to see how efficiently the exterior was removed from our house. Each evening the area around the house/dumpster was completely swept/raked before the crew left the site. Next the house was completely wrapped with Typar to keep out drafts. Then came the installation of the CertainTeed fiber cement boards. While we were a bit skeptical about how well our old frame would look with new boards, we could not be happier with the result! The precision of the cuts for each board was excellent with a minimal of caulking. In addition, the architectural details looked better than before with the way the boards were installed. We had chosen to use shake-style "boards" on a dormer window and came home at noon one day to find the workers putting lap siding instead. We stopped them, called David and he came to investigate. The foreman explained how the integrity of the installation would be compromised due to the angles, and after a discussion we did see his point and ended up taking his advice it looks fantastic! Another little "happy mistake" came when the over-zealous workers tore off the old siding of a third side of our garage (we had only contracted to have 2 sides re-sided). We immediately called David and his reply was, "looks like you just got a wall of free siding"! The offset price between the two types of siding on the dormer was enough for us to side the 4th side of our garage as well. We were not expecting the paint job to look so awesome. The painters were so meticulous applying the 3 colors we had chosen that the trim and accent colors just "pop" against the darker base color. When they were done, the foreman walked around the entire job with us to see if we could find any "mistakes" (missed spots), we only found a couple that were taken care of on the spot. Our experience and end result with re-side was excellent!

David came out and gave us an estimate. He gave a very thorough explanation of the product they were going to use, the pros and cons of the product, the installation of it and he took pictures of the house detailing where special attention would be needed for the fascia. He spent a lot of time explaining things and he came back with a second bid when we told him we weren't going to do all the work he had detailed.
Description of Work: We want our house resided with fiber cement siding and the exterior painted.
