I called and Randy was able to come out within an hour. He looked at the fixture and advised that it was correct. He wasn't going to charge me for the service.
Description of Work: Randy looked at a fixture to see if it was properly wired.

Randy gave us a fair price. He was punctual, called before he came, gave us an idea before he left each day when he would be back the next day and actually came back when he said he would. He moved his schedule around so he could paint our linen closet on the next day so we didn't have to wait until the following week to have the painting completed. He did great work on a timely basis. He always cleaned up the area each day. We were very pleased with his work.
Description of Work: Randy performed work on an area in a linen closet that had been damaged by water from a roof problem. He removed the old drywall, put in new drywall, sanded and painted the area in the linen closet that was damaged.

He didn't show up and he ended up not doing the job for me after a month and a half of saying he would. I started calling him in August or September and we had it all set up for the middle of October. He called that day and said that he couldn't do it. He held on to my plans all that time.

Mea culpa. As the job loomed larger, I came to realize that it would require a second hand and I had bitten off more than I could chew. The member lowered her budget during that time and I had to admit to myself that I would have to turn down the work rather than back myself into a corner. I lost some sleep and felt horrible when I had to finally leave her hanging. I did phone her and apologize rather than simply not show up. She was a very nice potential customer and I wanted to make her happy. I take full responsibility for her disappointment. It was a lesson for me and I'm deeply regretful.

Randy put the front door on quickly, attached a bar to keep it from closing too quickly, and then put a similar bar on our back screen door as well. He gave me a thoroughly itemized bill, and he was a good guy to talk to. I'll use him again in the future.

He was prompt, neat (left no trace of his having been here,) and we felt totally comfortable having him in our house when we were away. This guy is 100% trustworthy and a very good (and reasonable!) person to have do work on your house.
Description of Work: Randy provided attic access where there was none previously. This involved drywall work and more. When he was finished, it looked as if the access had always been there. A++
It went great! Very honest to the point of saying we didn't need to do something I would have done.
Description of Work: Randy worked with my husband to fix an electrical issue. He was VERY fair by letting my husband help and working with the price. He was honest, friendly and detailed.
Great! Randy does what he says, dependable, follows through, meets timelines, finds ways to help and save money.
Description of Work: I'm a single mom new to Indy 3 years ago. Randy has been a great help and service over the last 3 years. He's done everything from helping me get new sofa into the basement to carpentry, painting, electrical work, pitching in when my basement flooded. He has a great networks of other skilled painters, plumbers and electricians to to refer when he thinks he can't do it himself. He's honest, fair, works hard, goes the extra mile. $40 was the price per hour Randy quoted. He's always fair and tracks his time to make sure sure he's giving an hour of full heavy work.

Randy was a pleasure to work with from first phone call to completion of the work. He is pleasant, straightforward, and knowledgeable. Though mine was a relatively small job, in the scheme of things, Randy was nonetheless attentive to the quality of his work, to the efficiency with which he accomplished it, and to my complete satisfaction with the final product. His price was more than fair. His attitude and demeanor inspire trust. In the coming months, I look forward to hiring Randy for work I have been putting off forever. My house and I together breathe deep sighs of relief.

He does all kinds of good stuff for me. I don’t remember how much I spent. He does a lot of things. We have a couple of steps in the backyard and the dogs have a hard time getting up the steps, so with the ramp the dogs can get up on the steps. He’s inventive. I had some work done with another plumber who didn’t do such a swell job. Randy just looked at it and he figured out what the problem was. He’s just very clever in resolving problematic issues. Sometimes a repair has to be figured out before you can do it right and he’s very good at that. He’ll try different things until he gets the right solution. Whatever the project is, it’s finished nicely. He’s also a real nice person. He’s always punctual and he generally does a good job. It’s called trouble shooting sometimes in order to make a repair. I’ve been using him for several years and I don’t have a single complaint. I would use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Randy King for handyman work. I last used his services in early May. He built two different ramps for our ageing dogs. He’s does them very cleverly too. He’s built it in such a way where it has a hinge in the middle, so that we can fold it up and put it in the car. He put some carpet scraps on so that the dogs can get a grip. He’s made something else which I haven’t seen as yet. It’s for outdoors and he’s used outdoor indoor carpeting so that the dogs can get a grip and it won’t get damaged in the rain.

Randy was very affordable, and did a great job. He even showed us how to do a job ourselves in order to help us save money. When we needed additional drywall patchwork done in a ceiling, he recommended another person who he felt would do an even better job on the project, to be sure we would be happy with the results.

The handyman that we had used for a couple of years was no longer available and we needed someone quickly (our front door wouldn't open!). I found Randy King's name on Angie's list and he was able to come a couple of days later. He quickly figured out what needed to be done (which was not obvious) and everything was finished within three hours. Randy is personable, charges a fair amount for his work, is consistently on time (we've already had him back to do work two more times already), and cleans up any mess that his work makes. I'm glad that we've found a new handyman that we can count on.
Description of Work: Randy worked on two doors in our home that no longer closed or opened easily because of settling. On one door he had to grind down a metal plate on the bottom of the door. The other door required work on the hinges and replacement of the dead bolt.

He is a very personable and caring person. You can definitely tell that. The quality of the work wasn't entirely satisfactory. I've had him come out several times to do all sorts of handywork. The retiling wasn't the best thing he has done. He was very good about fixing things that had not been done well. I wish he had done them well to start off with. The tile was done right, but the caulking wasn't. I had to have another contractor help fix it. I'm not willing to say that he did a bad job, but I'm not sure if the right materials were used. He has an assistant with him, and you could obviously tell that he cared about that assistant learning how to do things the right way. I had no problems about him being in the house. He is very honest and up-front about things. He is very competitively priced. He did a lot of work for the price.
Description of Work: He retiled our bathroom. He refloored, did drywall, and pulled tile up.

Response from Randy King
As much as I apreciate another straight A report, I can't take the credit. I do not recall the work nor the client and fear there may have been a mistake in this report. I do, however, live very nearby and would love to hear from them.
We’ve hired two different carpenters to work at our house just recently. Randy King does perform better workmanship than Perfectionist Carpentry. However, I would describe it as rough rather than finished carpentry. Mr. King’s hourly rates are low if that is what is important to you. 1. He damaged/dented the stained woodwork around the door two ways. First, he tore oversized holes in the wood when pounding out old nails. This could have been avoided by cutting the nails off with a hack saw. Second, he dented the finish with a hammer while driving in new nails. A nail gun or a hammer and punch should be used to drive finish nails. 2. He also damaged the drywall next to the door trim with his hand saw. This was caused by just being careless when cutting off some shims. 3. He chiseled out to much of the door frame for the striker plate. Measuring twice and cutting once would have avoided this mistake. 4. He removed paint/dented the storm door by hitting it with a hammer. A block of wood should’ve been used between the door and the hammer. 5. He assembled/installed the parts of the storm door in the wrong order. He tried to install the trim along the top last instead of earlier in process. So it just sits loose on top of the frame instead of attached to the frame. MEMBER RESPONSE: Yes, the initial damage was done during a recent burglary. However, the burglars only damaged the main door frame. Mr. King damaged both the stained woodwork and drywall. They didn’t need to be patched/finished/painted before then. This damage was significant, not normal/slight as he claims.
Description of Work: Repaired front door and installed storm door.

The damage to the trim and drywall is normal and slight and is to be dealt with as part of the painting process, which I was not hired to do. The door opening was such that a few whacks on the new aluminum storm door jamb was preferable to hours of surgery. This work was done to rectify damage from a recent break-in and I wouldn't expect the mood to be jolly. My ratings are normally very high and I'm sorry the Member is not happier.

Randy is so easy to work with, pleasant personality, always responsive and punctual. Mom likes him as well : ) Does a great job. Price is reasonable as well. Highly recommend this guy!
Description of Work: He originally did some work for me a year ago. He replaced a custom TV cabinet that was over 50 years old that was built into the wall. He re-engineered it so that it could contain a 52inch widescreen. I was very pleased with the results, this job was done in November of 2009. Since than I have hired him multiple times to do Handyman work at my Mom's and my house. He has done minor caulking, installation of bathroom fixtures, handicap handrails, trim on outdoor pool house, repaired doors that didn't lock correctly. Overall, general handyman work.
