Excellent. The plumbing technician, B. Ebersole was superb. He was qualified and very knowledgeable of my plumbing issues and diagnosed the problems with great accuracy. He found a faulty thermo expansion tank on my water heater that was causing my water meter's leak detector to spin, and he identified my water softener was malfunctioning and leaking the softening beads out into my pipes causing low water pressure and gurgling sounds in my pipes in the master bath and washer areas. I did not elect to purchase a new water softener from the company because the price quoted was rather high.

Very satisfied! Ed Boyd was the service technician who performed the service. He was very professional, explaining his work as he completed it. He pointed out a couple of items that needed attention and I did not feel pressured to replace them. I have used Peterman for my HVAC needs for a long time and plan to continue to use them.

Just awful. And that's being kind. We chose them for other good reviews and for a substantial discount coupon. Technician came and insisted on inspecting the entire system, inside and out, rather than my request to focus on the suspect place. Typical higher than seems necessary price quoted for HVAC work. OK, I don't complain about wanting to be thorough. Technician found the problem at the place I had suggested at the start, the outside unit. There was a bad part called a contactor. He replaced this small part, and also replaced some old wires at that part and nearby. He called me back to show me one wire not near the replaced part that had insulation gone over a short distance. I examined it and pointed out that it was a fresh cut right next to where an outer panel had just been replaced. "This is a fresh and sharp cut that wasn't here yesterday" I said. No further comment on that. Then it was working fine again, however there was a request/offer to do more work on our old AC unit, beyond fixing what had just caused it to stop working perfectly. The price would be up from the $400 something for the approximate hour he had spent to $800 something. The extra work was expected to take less than an hour. Here comes my first real heartburn with this company:...I told him I thought the first price seemed high, but had agreed before knowing how small and easy the part and how simple and quick the access. I didn't balk at paying, but didn't think it reasonable to spend more than twice the amount when the unit was now again working perfectly. At this point he said words to the effect of "Do you want cooling these hot days or don't you". Taken aback I asked directly if that was just a sarcastic remark. Reply was again, "well, you're needing cooling and these are really hot days, so do you want it to keep working or don't you?" ( words to that effect and in that tone). Having confirmed in my mind that if I was going to sometime have more work done it wouldn't be by him, I politely declined, reconfirmed that the unit was cooling nicely as it has been consistently, and settled the bill. (One of the documents required to be signed was that I was satisfied with the work. It was cooling, so I signed. I'm not a qualified HVAC tech.) We thought that was that. Big mistake. Two weeks later the cooling stopped suddenly again. This time I called a different company, whos prices were higher but who had served us without incident a long time ago. Technician came out, told us what the diagnosis would cost plus repairs, and we agreed. I also told him it was only two weeks since another technician had worked on it and he wisely thought we should look there first. He called me over to show me a fire scene, at the contactor and wiring the Peterman tech had just installed. We examined it and saw there was a terminal incorrectly secured which had sparked or overheated the new wires and caught them on fire (photos attached). The fire damage was corrected, new wires installed, and system function checked. Photos were taken of the fire area and damaged wiring. We attempted to contact the owner by phone, but the receptionist said was unavailable, and so we left a message to call back.. I told the receptionist the nature of my call, and that it is important that he call, and have not been contacted or called back by anyone in the company since. I made sure the receptionist had copied down my message about the fire and wanting to talk about corrective action. Still, no contact. Now in writing this report I have in hand the invoice, and I'm even more surprised to find multiple errors on the invoice, which includes the "description of work". In that description is noted that my complaint was that the unit was blowing cold air. A typo? Perhaps, but I looked further. In the accounting section it's noted that the Member Price was $372.00. Next was that there is Member Savings to be applied of $63.00. Wow! That seems good. However instead, the member savings was added to the bill to make a total of $435.00. Whether these repeated errors were by design or due to negligence, we probably won't know because Peterman Heating Cooling Plumbing is not talking to us. But that distinction doesn't really matter to us. We are out $435 plus half a days work lost while I needed to stay at home, and with damage and a very real fire in place of any benefit. I uploaded photographs, but don't see any indication that they were successfully received. If they don't show up, please ask.

There are a number of units today that can save you a great deal of money when it comes to your energy bill. With regard to the wiring issue I apologize. I wish that you would have had us back out to examine the issue and correct it. We would have been happy to come out free of charge and correct our mistake. You mention you tried to call [Member Information Removed] and speak with a manager. I apologize for no one getting back with you. I would really like to personally speak with you and get this issue resolved. I know you probably paid the other company for the repair and I would at the very least like to pay for the services you paid for. Please feel free to reach out and ask for me personal. It worked. They came out the day after I bought the Big Deal. I paid $300 plus the Big Deal cost. I thought the service was good. He set everything up correctly. I really did not like the extra price that they did not note until I was ready to get it all set up. The problem that I had with the place was I got Angie’s List Big Deal and I got all the supplies here and ready for them and I still had to pay $300. At this point, I would not use them again. They are too expensive.

They were pretty good. The best part was they got it fixed. The worst part was maybe the price wasn't quite as competitive as it could have been. Quality of work was good. Their responsiveness was good. They were there when they were supposed to be.

The whole process of calling and then getting a call back to communicate that they could not get to me until Monday is A+ service communication and very prompt. I appreciate the Responsiveness and honesty. Even know I did not have any service done by them they still get an A in my book because of the straight forward honesty and very timely call back.
Description of Work: I called Peterman's after hours. They answered phone promptly and asked for my information and the problem I was having. They said that they will be calling me shortly. Within 3 minutes I received a call from the after hours plumber. He explained that they were booked solid all weekend and that it most likely would not be until Monday that they could make it out.

I bought a package where they inspect the furnace and the air conditioning and the plumbing and whatever for a full year. It involves three visits and costs $199. They're good. They know what they're doing and they respond quickly. They're not the cheapest, but they're not the most expensive either. For my money, they do the best work. A few years back, my furnace went out and they were here within 24 hours in the middle of one of the coldest times of the year and we had everything fixed up. They tell you morning or afternoon and then they call you half an hour before they come. That way, you can make sure you're home. I love it.

I had a fantastic experience with Peterman. I wanted a high-efficiency furnace and had several quotes from companies in Indy. I was immediately impressed with Peterman when Bob came out to give the quote. He was extremely knowledgable and gave me a lot more detail than any other appraisal. He wasn't pushy and sent a quote within a few hours of being at the house. The price was the most competitive, and I had confidence based on my experience with Bob. The installers were equally skilled and professional. They explained everything in the process, did a great job, and also were careful to clean up both the basement and the upstairs area where they had been working. Great job, and I'll be hiring you for semi-annual service down the line as well. Thanks for the good service.

I used Peterman for 10+ years for my bi-annual service. I will no longer use Peterman. They did not look out for my best interest. They just politely took my money. Despite regular maintenance, my system failed during one of the hottest days of the year. I called Perterman. They charged me $75 for doing nothing -- after 20 minutes of poking around and telling me that my system was fine. I diagnosed that the cause of the problem was a dead battery in my thermostat. The well-scrubbed technician didn?t think of that. I told the technician to tell his bosses that I was an unhappy customer. He assured me he would relay my message. I never heard from anyone at Peterman. After 10+ years of loyalty to the company, there is no overture or communication from Peterman? That?s bad form. I had another company inspect my system this fall (Nov. 2015). I was shown photographic evidence that my system is leaking, badly degraded and near failure. I also learned that the system was improperly installed when Peterman installed the HVAC units for this building in 2004. Each time - twice a year for 10+ years - Peterman inspected my system, and told me everything was fine. It was not. I will soon spend $11,000+ for a new system in the coming months. I will use another company for this work, and for all future business. Peterman jerked me around. Peterman will show up on time with well-scrubbed technicians. But they will just smile and take your money. Peterman has lousy people running the company, and they really do not care about their customers.

You point out in your review that your first negative experience revolved around a system failure as a result of batteries in the thermostat. I apologize that no one reached out to you to address your dissatisfaction regarding this issue. We should have handled this better and someone should have reached out to you to discuss. We did not provide great service in this situation and I apologize. Regarding your second complaint about the system deteriorating, I apologize if our technicians did not do a better job of pointing this out to you. You are most definitely going to see signs of deterioration after 10+ years of continual use. After reviewing your service history I did see that our technicians did run all the proper diagnostic tests usually performed during a system check visit. We run these tests to make sure the unit is functioning properly, as yours appeared to do for 10+ years, given there is no record of a breakdown outside of the thermostat issue that was related to the batteries in the thermostat itself. Signs of aging are often found on most system of comparable age. I do apologize for not pointing these out to you; however, the system was functioning properly even though it had these signs of aging. With regard to the improper installation, I would be more than happy to look at the other companies report to determine what they found that they deemed to be improper. I feel like an improper installation would lead to continual breakdowns and issues; however, this is not something you have experienced. If you wouldn't mind sharing this report, I would be more than happy to look it over to better understand what issues were found. Overall, I again apologize that you had a negative experience. My issue was that my 2nd level of my home and several rooms on the first floor had heating/cooling issues. I had 3 or 4 other companies provide quotes for service and all of them could not guarantee their work would fix the issues. Peterman was the only company who actually took measurements and explained the physics behind why my airflow was of such poor quality in the effected areas. Plus, their price was the best of the companies that recommended a new system. From inspection to installation only took 1 week. They cleaned up very well. The installation crew also made recommendations on how to further increase the heating/cooling efficiency of my home. I had very good results using Peterman Heating and Cooling.

Peterman Plumbing performed a service call to our house to fix a leaking toilet. In less than a year the toilet was leaking again. When I called the company to complain I was told 30 days, too bad. This company loves to get customers money for service contracts but does sub standard work.
Description of Work: Supposedly he was there to replace a wax seal on an upstairs toilet.

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Peterman. They installed my water heater the same day (I called in the morning). The office employee who took my information was extremely helpful and pleasant and the person who did the installation was extremely knowledgeable and professional. I also felt that the value I received for what I paid was extremely fair. I will use Peterman again for any work that I may need to have done.
Description of Work: Installed a new water heater and hauled the old one away.

I called and they sent someone out the next morning. The problem was my toilet tank wasn't filling up. The job took exactly 20 minutes (noted because the plumber called me before he started and called when he was done to collect payment). I am extremely disappointed to find out that I was charged $150 for the repairs and a SEPARATE $83 for a service charge. Forgive me if I am wrong but I have NEVER been charged a service charge in addition to a repair, especially a repair that involved ONE trip and only took 20 minutes to repair. A service charge is supposed to ensure that if there is no repair done, the worker will have some compensation for the trip to the home. Needless to say, I am quite disappointed and will not be recommending this company.

Second, I would like to address the issue you had with our service fee. I apologize for the confusion surrounding the service fee. This should have been more clearly explained to you before we booked the call. We charge a service fee for every call we run. This practice is fairly common throughout the industry. We do advertise a coupon for a "Free Service Call with Repair," but given that you did not have this coupon, our technician went ahead and charged the service fee per company policy. We called another provider to come give us an estimate for this installation. The technician came... didn't take measurements and went outside to his truck to email us a quote.. instantly. That quote was one number.. one simple price.. no details.. and the estimate seemed rather high, but we had no idea the depth of what we needed done due to the lack of detail. We decided to get a second opinion. Research led us to Peterman Heating and Cooling. I called and a guy came out the same day. He collected all the information and measurements and was very thorough. He was also very friendly and seemed quite knowledgeable. He left saying he would email me a quote.. and I thought, well that is weird the other guy gave us one right away. A couple hours later I received the quote... it was 2 pages long, itemized with every little detail. There was no uncertainty as to what we needed or were getting. We were even given a couple different options as to "good, better, best". They didn't try to push anything on us we didn't need... we had the option to choose. Even their highest quote came in lower than the first estimate, plus they gave me an Angie's List discount and a cash discount, however they offered payment plans for those interested. We scheduled the installation and they were out within a couple business days and finished it up in an afternoon. We are very pleased. Our home is set up so that we have different units running the front and the back due to its size.. so we will definitely be calling Peterman's when we are ready to replace the other unit.

Last night my Central A/C unit was blowing cold and all the sudden I smelled a burning smoke smell. I turned off the unit and called Peterman first thing this morning. The person that took my call this morning at 9am was great. She took my description of what happened and told me that a tech would be able to get to me today. She also told me about annual service agreement they offer that saves a little money on repairs AND includes a spring a/c cleaning and inspection and a fall furnace cleaning/inspection. The tech called 30 minutes before he showed up (as promised) and diagnosed my problem. He gave me two options to fix a small part on one of the motors or replace all of the pieces to make everything new. I chose to replace it all so that hopefully I'm good to go for a while. As always Peterman is polite, quick, honest and competitively priced.

Very well. The job required installation of a new shut-off valve also, and the plumber who came had the parts in the truck and was able to complete the work with no problem. Work was $150/hour plus a base fee of $95, but since this was the second job they completed for us, they waived the base fee. Very nice!

Everything went well. The tech was able to come out the day after we left a message with their answering service (we called in the evening). We had a prompt call the next day, scheduled a time and got it taken care of. We now have cool air running through the house again. I will say that there is a bit of confusion with the service agreement regarding automatic renewal (something Angie's List has a had a problem with in the past). The service agreement states that there will be an automatic renewal in the following year. When I called the office and spoke with Pam she informed me that they do NOT automatically renew the annual contracts. I've written the office to see if I can get documentation that there is no automatic renewal on the plan but have not heard back yet.
