FOR A COMPANY WITH THE REPUTATION THAT OVERHEAD DOOR OF INDIANAPOLIS HAS, I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THE SHODDY AND STRUCTURALLY UNSOUND INSTALLATION THAT WAS HASTILY PERFORMED. AFTER SUBMITTING A COMPLAINT, OVERHEAD DOOR DISPATCHED A SENIOR TECHNICIAN WHO SAID "YUP, I WOULD HAVE DONE IT DIFFERENTLY", AND THEN LEFT. I HAVE REINFORCED THE STRUCTURE MYSELF AND HAVE REQUESTED A CREDIT FROM OVERHEAD DOOR, WHICH I DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO HONOR. *** FOLLOW-UP TO THE REPORT SUBMITTED 12/28/04: REQUEST FOR CREDIT WAS NOT HONORED. THE OVERHEAD DOOR MANAGER WAS MORE THAN WILLING TO CASH THE CHECK AND GIVE ME THE RUN-AROUND. I WILL TAKE ANY FUTURE BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.
Description of Work: REPLACED GARAGE DOOR OPENER WITH 1/2 HP 12/28/04: CHAIN DRIVE GENIE OPENER. PRICE INCLUDES SERVICE CALL WHERE THE OLD OPENER WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON THE SCENE.

 + -1 moreMY DAY OFF FROM WORK WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY WOULD SEND SOMEONE WHO KNEW SO LITTLE ABOUT HIS COMPANY'S PRODUCT LINE. HAD HE HAD A BROCHURE I COULD HAVE EXAMINED, I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE SELECTED A NEW DOOR ON THE SPOT IN ORDER TO EXPEDITE INSTALLATION. HOWEVER, AFTER WASTING MY TIME, TO EXPECT PAYMENT OF $44, WHICH WAS NEVER MENTIONED AT THE TIME I ARRANGED THIS "SERVICE CALL", WAS BEYOND REASON.
Description of Work: I CALLED OVERHEAD DOOR TO REPORT THAT MY GARAGE DOOR WAS BROKEN. I EXPLAINED THE NATURE OF THE DAMAGE (AUTOMATIC OPENER RIPPED OFF FROM THE GARAGE DOOR) OVER THE PHONE. THEY SENT A REPRESENTATIVE. I TOOK A DAY OFF OF WORK TO MEET WITH HIM. HE LOOKED AT THE DOOR AND IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED (COULD NOT BE REPAIRED). I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD SAMPLES ON HIS TRUCK. NO. I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD BROCHURES I COULD LOOK AT TO SELECT A DOOR. NO. I ASKED HIM IF HE KNEW IF HIS COMPANY HAD A WEBSITE I COULD GO TO, TO RESEARCH HIS COMPANY'S SELECTION. HE DIDN'T KNOW WHETHER HIS COMPANY HAD ONE. I ASKED HIM FOR A COST ESTIMATE AND HE SAID THEY HAD $700 DOORS, AND $900 DOORS. AFTER THIS HIGHLY INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL FIVE MINUTE CONVERSATION, I TERMINATED OUR MEETING. HE REQUESTED A $44.00 FEE FOR HIS "SERVICES". I DECLINED TO PAY. THE ONLY GOOD PART OF THE EXPERIENCE IS THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO SEND SOMEONE OUT THE NEXT DAY AND HE ARRIVED ON TIME.

I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE OPENER, BUT THE INSTALLER FROM ANOTHER COMPANY, INDICATED THE DOOR WAS NEVER ACTUALLY SERVICED, POINTING OUT BOLTS THAT WERE NEVER TIGHTENED AND OTHER ISSUES.
