Northern Comfort System installed Heather in my rental property on December of 2022 and in March of 2023 the heather stopped working due to supposed water sensor failure. I have contacted Northern Comfort to repair the unit ASAP as cold weather was approaching, and was told that this will be fixed 4 day later as the part was not available meaning needed to be shipped. In recap the unit was 10K and it stopped working after 3 months... After calling and sending messages how disappointed I was with the service the technician who told my renters he will fix this in 4 days he came back next day to try some other fixes that didn't work. He brought 2 radiator heaters to help heat 5 bedrooms 3000sqf house that was already cold. I went and bough 6 additional electric heathers ($500) to help my renters stay warm. On Monday the tech. came out and midshaft fix the heather as it was not the water sensor but the electric panel of the unit (that they don't have on hand again), so we are waiting for part. The tech didn't call nor text to provide me with an update on the situation, but he send invoice what part need to be ordered. This is a cluster as this business have 24h operation with no parts on hand. I could have new heather unit from other company in 24h installed yet I needed to wait on part that wasn't even the problem and still waiting on the part that was/is. Maybe a correct root cause analysis would help here? Either way I am not happy, as were my renters living for 3 days in in house with no heath. It takes 50 years to build reputation and only 5 sec to ruin it. I will not do business with Northern Comfort aging.
Description of Work: The Central unit needed to be fixed after 3 months in use. The tech. didn't have parts to fix the unit so my renters were living in cold house during frigged weather. The unit is working now but is still not fixed, as we are waiting on parts.

I really appreciated the knowledge shared on what was wrong with our leak and why certain repairs needed to be done. The plumber was very knowledgeable on what he was going to do and completed the repair in a timely manner. I really appreciated the professionalism and clean up that Northern Comfort showed after making repairs to our bathroom. I would absolutely recommend and rehire again!

This company responded within a few minutes of my request for a quote (which was amazing), and even emailed me, just like I had requested in my inquiry. The dispatcher was very polite and professional, and they put me on "Next Availability" for that day and called 30-45 minutes prior to showing up. The tech came out and inspected the system (I let them know I had already replaced the thermocouple in the water heater to no avail) and discovered that he felt the gas valve was bad on my water heater. It's an older water heater, so the part would be hard to find (and even if found, around $800+ to replace). They quoted a price to replace the gas valve as well as to just replace the entire water heater, and it was well above what we were willing to spend on it. Their prices may be in line with the market standard, but my girlfriend and I were renting the house (a fixer upper) and were looking to move out in the next few months anyway (because who in their right mind would rent a fixer upper, am I right?). For the price of a new system (around $1800), we would just buy one from Home Depot for around $400 and install it ourselves. Again, this isn't a knock to them or their pricing; we just happened to be moving out of the house in a few months and dropping that amount of money for a new system isn't in our best interest. Regardless we were extremely happy with the tech and this company from the top down. The best part was that they didn't charge ANYTHING. There was no service fee, and due to them not being able to repair the unit, they didn't even charge for the hour labor that the tech spent working on the water heater. My girlfriend didn't have cash on hand to tip the tech (I was at work), so I feel bad that we didn't pay for anything at all due to their policy. The tech worked hard and was very knowledgeable, and while I appreciate their policy of not charging a trip charge or service fee since they couldn't fix the water heater, I would have been more than happy to pay for his time spent there. I will say that not charging for those things makes me feel that the company is very trustworthy and that I trust their judgement on it needing to be replaced. I'll absolutely use them in the future, and you should too.

The first technician arrived ill-equipped with what he needed to work on the sump pump. He was not familiar with our model of pump, which was a major brand. I ended up providing bucket, hose, towels, etc. He had a hard time trying to figure out how to remove the cover and then spent a lot of time fiddling with things but never actually diassembling anything. He finally left after a $195 bill (which we were able to reduce to $120 using a coupon), but three hours later our backup sump pump was being triggered again, which meant that the main pump was still having issues. The second technician came two days later. His first question was how old our pump was and when I replied 7 years, he told me we just needed to have it replaced. My husband talked to him to give him some suggestions. The technician spent a little time on it and then reiterated that we would need to buy a whole new system and tried to charge me again for his service. I told him the last technician had told me his work would be warrantied. So he back off on that. But I discovered after he left that he hadn't but the lid back in place which meant that our radon pump would not work properly. The new system was going to be over $2000 and if we wanted to try to just replace the float it would be $700. Since we were going out of town the next day, my husband disassembled the pump when he came home that night, took out the float, cleaned it off well, replaced everything, The pump has been working great ever since. Just curious, we priced out the cost of a new float online in the event that we might need to replace it and we could get it for about $60, which meant they would have charged us $640 labor for something my husband, who is not a plumber, could do in 20 minutes. I am very disappointed in this company. I have been them with quite a while with the heating/cooling service and was very happy for the most part. I definitely do not want to use their plumbing services ever again. They are new in taking on the plumbing service and I think it is hurting them overall. I do appreciate talking to the manager finally and his willingness to refund the $120 service charge for the inadequate sump pump work. He was also nice to find out who my favorite technician has been in the past for the heating/cooling and make sure that is who I will be assigned in the future.

I would give them an A. It was a small difference in price. They were wanting to sell us a sales contract. You know the regular maintenance plan, and their price was a little bit high. So I got a second price and the second option was a little lower. But it wasn't that much lower. I would give them all A's too. They did a good job the price for this fix was a little lower than I wanted. I just wanted a second opinion. They were the ones that installed it and it had a problem but it was not their fault. The fault was in the factory. They didn't catch it but I don't know if anyone would have caught it. I just needed a second option and someone look at it. Its not fair to downgrade them at all. I would consider using them again. These guys did a good job.

They?ve been great! They do for our rental units and everything. We?ve been using them for a while on a consistent basis. We use them constantly. We have a contract with them to do all our units, so it didn?t cost us anything. That didn?t cost us anything at that particular time, because it was routine maintenance. It?s a couple hundred dollars a year, I guess. They were fine. Left work area very clean.

Terrible customer service from office. Tech was great, shared he thought it was compressor issue. Roughly a 2k repair. Already put 1500 in the system this year plus maintenance contract. Shared my concern for the relatively young age of system and the issues we had experienced. Service manager said he would see what they could do since we had issues before. He came back with a ridiculous "offer" to honor the labor only cost since we were just out of warranty, still nearly 2k repair. Service manager didn't have the courtesy to call, instead emailed the bad news. Got replacement quotes for new system that were much better than their offer. Opted to tear out their junk and replace with better equipment, better warranty, better price. Don't bother with these guys, you will not be pleased with their work.
Description of Work: Had them out on service call to check 5 year old system they installed. Emergency heat was kicking on when it was in the upper 30's outside. Response was initially pretty good.

Mr. [Member Name Removed] I am glad that you thought our technician Michael was great. We did install this system 5 years ago for the previous homeowner and I know how frustrating it can be when a part fails after the manufacturers warranty expires. Though our repair options were not the best choice for you, we were able to properly diagnose and confirm the findings at no charge. I did promise you a answer by the end of the week so I chose to email you since I was unable to reach you by phone. Please call us and let us know if you have any other questions. Horrible. For furnace visit, 3 hours after serviceman left and said everything was in great shape, the house began getting cold. Checked the furnace...would not work. After troubleshooting myself, serviceman had turned off power and not turned back on. How did he test it?? For AC visit in the spring, same technician arrived as well as a trainee. They talked me into a "water softener flushing" for $20. After they left and reported everything in great shape again. After an hour the house was getting hot...checked the unit, same guy had left the fuse block out of the AC power block at the unit. So both times, he left my house and the units he worked on he left disconnected and unworking. We left the next morning for a vacation.... Returned home after a 1 week trip and found cristillized salt all over my floor by water softener. Called them back to figure it out and a new technician reported the unit cracked. It obviously was done by Mr. Forgetful because neither me nor them did not have any salt on the floor at all prior to or at their visit. Owner did make it right by giving me a "new one" (cheapest one they could find and specifically said it would carry no warranty). I'm still not sure how dumping a 3$ bottle they charged me $20 for down a tube in my softener cracked it....but somehow he managed. So for my coupon I got my furnace shut off, ac shut off, and water softener broken. It is my "perception" that I was being set up for a replacement of my units via a small Amount of sabotage. I can never prove this, but every piece of equipment they touched (3) did not work when they left. I appreciate the owner doing the right thing and standing behind the damage, but I would never let this company on my property again.

A technician came out in November to do a normal furnace check per our annual contract agreement. He discovered that the damper needs to be replaced, and so he quoted us a price. He did the "normal" checks, and said everything looked fine. In reading back through his notes, though, he wrote that the inducer blower motor was not functioning at full capacity. About a month later, we had another company come out to give us a quote on the damper (which they did...their price was over $300 less!), he also went to look at the furnace. The tech took the cover off and noticed 2 things: the cap on the inducer motor was off (potentially leaking gasses) and there was a huge amount of insulation in the furnace intake (for those of you who don't know...that's where the burners are). He pulled out all of the insulation and covered up where the missing cap. So, basically, there was a chance that the insulation could have caught on fire, or CO could have leaked out. When I called Northern Comfort, I spoke with the manager and sent pictures. He said that he was sorry that the tech didn't catch these issues, and he would be spoken with. What they do with him, he said, is based on the severity of the situation. He then went on to say that it looked like the insulation was fiberglass, which doesn't catch on fire. Well...what I learned in Kindergarten is that when something gets very near to a flame, it'll burn. As he started to tell me that it probably wasn't a huge risk, it was still a problem (idk...even a small possibility that something could hurt my family is a pretty huge problem for me) and he'd refund our $175 contract. But..."that's all he could do." We'd had them replace the draft inducer in 2013... seems kind of coincidental that it already was bad, doesn't it? So, considering all of this, I would not recommend that anyone trust the abilities of their technicians unless they are furnace folks too. But then, if that's the case, do it yourself.

Mr. [Member Name Removed], I am sorry that you did not have the best experience with our service. I have a family and two little girls so I can understand how frustrated you would be hearing that there was a potential hazard in your furnace. Our technician did make a mistake by not removing the insulation from the intake screen and he did not notice tape covering a drain port on the inducer assembly. However I do want to ensure you that this drain port would not be able to leak carbon monoxide as it is under negative pressure. Regardless, we do learn from our mistakes and we take them very seriously which is why we wanted to refund your entire maintenance plan. My NEST thermostat had an error code which the NEST technical help identified was coming from the furnace. No heat and we were leaving town in a few days. Called Northern Comfort Systems who was recommended by NEST site and Angies list. The problem was quickly identified to the circuit board of the furnace and ordered. When the first board came it was defective also. I started to look for space heaters. However, the company got another board and fixed all issues just before out trip.

Great. I bought the package through Northern Comfort last year that gave me an a/c and furnace tune up this year for around $130 I believe. I have used them for a handful of times and their techs are always very professional and nice. The only thing that could be improved was to not make me feel pressured to get suggested work done that day. Today I was told my igniter was close to being done and it should probably be replaced. They told me if would be $164 today, and $274 after that. I did not have time to get it done today as I had to go to work. The reason given was that it was because they would have to come back out. I only live 2 blocks away from Northern Comfort so that seems a bit unreasonable. Other than that, you cannot go wrong with hiring Northern Comfort for any HVAC needs. They are always very reliable.

I've been waiting 3 weeks for someone "higher up the chain" to give me back half the amount of money I paid for a fall and spring maintenance/inspection contract. I have moved out of the house for which the contract was in place and no longer need the spring inspection. I've been told that because the contract involves discounts on work that MAY be done, it's not possible to know how much money I should get back for using only the fall portion of the contract. Clearly, no work will be done in my name on this house going forward because I no longer own it. Half of the original cost of 2 visits should be refunded because only one visit was completed. When I called the company, it was stated that the contract "usually stays with the house" and I should give it to the new owners, or that I should give it to one of my former neighbors. None of this makes sense. I admit that I forgot to tell Northern I was moving, but when they called to schedule the autumn inspection on a house I no longer live in, I told them the situation. I've have used this company for many years with satisfaction, but I cannot understand the reasoning behind not refunding my money.
