Both of the folks I talked to were very pleasant and open. They were also quite business-like about the value of estate jewelry. Bottom line is that they offered a far better price than a well-known jeweler near Castleton. I was pleased with my experience and would recommend Midwest Jewelry and Coin to others who are selling valuables - or buying. And I would add, as a recommendation to others with family valuables: stay away from jewelry stores!
Description of Work: Bought an estate ring that I inherited from a relative. Paid what I believe was fair price.

It went fantastic. If I took the money to the bank, I would have only received $80 and they gave me over $700. It included some old silver coins. Both people I spoke to were very helpful.

The staff is really helpful and courteous, whether you buy something or not. I think they are more reputable than some other similar companies. They have estate jewelry and a regular line as well. They always seem to have traffic. They have been there for a long time. Everybody seems to know about them. I have gone to a couple of other people and have been disappointed. The quality of services is excellent. When I stopped in recently, the gentleman I usually talk to wasn't there yet. When I returned home, I called to see if he was in yet, which he wasn't. The lady took my phone number and told me she would call me when he was going to be there, and I thought that was very helpful. They are very responsive and professional. I would use this provider again in the future.

My watch kept stopping, so I dropped it off to get cleaned or repaired. I paid a fair price and got it back in a fair amount of time. It continued stopping after I got it back, and after contacting Time Gallery I was told that some watches just have a life expectancy, that my watch had exceeded its life expectancy, and that they'd refund what I had paid them in full! Through the whole thing they were super informative, super friendly, and super helpful in every way. I won't ever take a time piece anywhere else ever again!

Three watches taken in. One needed battery. One needed crystal reglued. One antique watch needed cleaning and lubrication. They turned away the antique watch and quickly finished the work on the other two.

Time Gallery is located in an awkward little corner. Between the Starbucks on one side and the autoshop on the other side, the parking lot is small and cramped. I was worried about damaging my truck... I had read here on Angie's List that they keep the door locked and buzz you in - otherwise, I would have been thrown off by the locked door and the "by appointment" note on the door. But the staff could see me from behind the counter and buzzed me in right away, even without an appointment. Later, when I headed home with three of my grandmother's watches in their care, I was glad that they have taken the precaution of keeping the door locked. The batteries were replaced in my five modern watches within an hour. (I took care of some shopping next door at Target instead of waiting there.) They even gave me a discount based on the number of watches I had. I had been told that it would be $10 per battery, but it ended up only costing $7 each. The other watches had to wait to be picked up by the watchmaker before I could get an estimate. Apparently, watches are only picked up on Fridays. Since I dropped my watches off on a Monday, it was a while before I would know anything. (it ended up being 10 days before I had an estimate) On receiving estimate, I had some questions. Kathryn was very quick to relay my questions to the watchmaker and call me back. She was patient with me and wanted to make sure I got all of my questions answered. I was satisfied with the answers and went ahead and authorized the repairs. I thought the estimates were reasonable on the wristwatch with a loose crystal and the pocket watch. The third watch is tiny and was rusted inside, so the cost was very high. When asked, the watchmaker said that repairing the rusted watch would not improve its value. I decided to repair it anyway. They could not give me an estimate on when the watches would be repaired. Apparently it is difficult to determine until the watch is taken apart and they see what, if any, replacement pieces are needed and whether those pieces are on backorder. This makes sense, but was still frustrating. But I was reassured that the final price would not exceed the estimate I was quoted. It ended up taking another two weeks before the watch repairs were complete. The watches have been cleaned and appear to be in perfect working order now. It is a pleasure to hear my grandmother's watches ticking away again. I was pleased with the service I received. The staff was pleasant to work with. However, I am a little disappointed that they do not have a watchmaker on site - or at very least that he does not pick up/drop off more than once a week. While my 5 batteries were replaced within an hour, it took four weeks total to get my mechanical watches repaired and returned - and I'm sure a lot of that time was in just waiting to be picked up or dropped off. I do plan on using them again if I have more broken watches.
Description of Work: I had five modern watches that needed batteries replaced and three older (not sure if they're old enough to be antiques) mechanical watches that needed repair. Repairs ranged from a working wrist watch with loose crystal to a wristwatch and a pocket watch that were not working at all. The batteries were replaced the same day -the associate who helped me (Kathryn - not to be confused with Kathy, who also works there...) even took care to set the time and date on the watches before giving them back to me. The older, mechanical watches were left at the store to be picked up and taken to the watchmaker for an estimate and repair. I was contacted with the estimate and had several questions. Kathryn made sure that all my questions were taken care of before I authorized the repair. I received a phone call once the watches were repaired and ready to be picked up. I wasn't able to pick up the watches until several days later. They showed me how to wind the watches properly. Kathryn pointed out that these watches keep good time, but need to be wound every day. She mentioned that she had been winding them and re-setting them every morning so that they would be ready for me when I came to get them. They waited patiently while I checked out all the watches - I was delighted to hear them all ticking away!

The folks at Time Gallery were very friendly and helpful. One watch still had the plastic gizmo in place to keep the stem out (duh). The gal at the counter just fixed the problem and handed it back with a smile, no charge. (Apparently that happens a lot.) One Seiko needed major repairs, and the jeweler recommended against doing that work unless the watch had some sentimental value, as the repairs would be quite expensive - more than the watch was worth. All of the watches were returned in individual plastic bags, ticking away and set to the correct time.

THE SCREW HAD COME OUT OF THE WATCH, HOLDING TOGETHER THE FACE AND THE WATCH. I STILL HAD THE SCREW SO I WAS CHARGED $25 TO FIX THE WATCH. THE NEXT DAY, THE SCREW CAME OUT AGAIN AND I LOST IT. I TOOK IT BACK AND HE SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER $25 PLUS THE COST OF ORDERING THE SCREW. I LEFT THE WATCH THERE AND FOUND THE SCREW ON THE FLOOR THE NEXT DAY.I TOOK THE SCREW BACK AND HE WAS REALLY UPSET. HE WAS VERY RUDE AND SAID I WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY $5 FOR THE SCREW BECAUSE HE HAD ALREADY ORDERED IT. HE WAS SO RUDE I WANTED TO TAKE MY WATCH AND GO, THEN HE DIDNT WANT TO GIVE ME THE SCREW! I SAID I HAD PAID $5 AND WANTED THE SCREW AND HE SAID HE WAS KEEPING IT AND THE $5 WAS FOR THE PHONE CALL HE HAD TO MAKE TO ORDER IT!
