A Local, Family Owned and Operated Metal Roofing Business.
With over 50 years of experience, Metal Solutions provides and installs quality metal roofing throughout Indiana.
Make no mistake, not everyone can install a metal roof. Our installation team is comprised of roofing experts who have a wealth of experience with metal roofing. They know how to cut, shape, and form metal roofing panels properly to insure your roof never leaks. Your roof is the most important protection you, your family, and house have against the elements of heat, hail, wind, and rain. Trust Michael Burdine and the team at Metal Roofing Solutions to do the job right.
Metal Roofing Solutions chooses to use Classic Metal Roofing Systems for their ability to stand up to the elements with excellent performance, energy efficiency, and a Lifetime, Limited Warranty.
Douglas Campbell and his crew did an excellent job. Our house has many gables and varied rooflines and was a complex fit. Part of the scope of the project was to redesign the placement of the previous gutter system which was not able to keep up with climate change and the 'rain bombs' we are experiencing. The new box gutters and downspouts are larger and can handle considerable more rainfall. I felt comfortable with the workmen. Which is saying a lot.
Description of Work: Metal Solutions installed a steel, standing seam roof and large box gutters. They also replaced a copper bay window with a new copper roof. I went with steel to replace a hail damaged wood shake roof.

The job went well with only a few incidents. The job took longer than anticipated but the provider never questioned my concerns and acted on them without hesitation. They seemed to want to do a good job. The worse incident was when they backed into my car when leaving one day. We are in the process of getting the car repaired. My only complaint is there is some annomalies that I prefer to not have but considering the overall job the quality runs with what is standard. I just happen to be an engineer and experienced roofer ....probably the worse customer type for them.

Metal Solutions provided an estimate within a couple days of calling. The appointment was quick and price seems reasonable for the type of roof. We have not yet moved forward with the purchase and installation but plan to in the future. We were very pleased with the quick response, professionalism, and the price of the quote.

The work was delayed for a day to a couple of days due to rain and delivery of a wrong part. Otherwise, the work was done professionally and well. I am happy with the work. They prepared well; there was slight delay due rains and a wrong part; cleaned the place of work well, afterwards. Having gone back to Florida and having not seen the completed project because of the delay, they have sent me photos of the completed re-roofing. Two of my relatives checked it and were likewise pleased with the work. The initial contact with them was made by myself after reading and exploring the internet and using Angie's List. My brother, an engineer, and my granddaughter, who is living in the house met with the President of the company and selected the color and materials. The total price was quite high to me, but it would seem that this is par for the type of material and work that I wanted. I okayed the project (from my place in Florida) after emails and conversations with my granddaughter and brother. Then I set the time when the job has to be done, coinciding with my trip to Indiana in June, 2013. That was the first time that I met the President of the company, who was very professional and knowledgeable.

We decided last fall that our original cedar shake roof of ~20 years needed to be replaced. We had had it refurbished ~7 yrs ago and ~ 25% of the shingles were replaced and the roof was power cleaned then a sealant was applied. Despite this, the roof deteriorated and water started to re-leak around one chimney even though the chimney had the masonry waterproofed and re-flashed & the chimney cap replaced. We also noted that the cedar shake shingles began to disintegrate at the roof's edge due to the heavy snows and rain over the years. We were told by our original builder that a cedar shake roof could last up to 50 years but that is probably only under ideal circumstances We found that the price of replacing our cedar shake roof with another one was quite expensive and looking at the alternatives an aluminum cedar shake shingle was of comparable cost but had a number of advantages. Visiting with Metal Solutions Inc, Michael Burdine (the president) explained to us the various advantages including longer durability, better water proofing and wind resistance. The insulation is better against the sun is due to a special reflective paint on the aluminum as well as a styrofoam insulation used under each shingle. Each shingle interlocks with the surrounding ones on all 4 sides and is attached to the roof deck by concealed screws in a manner where there is no perforation of the the shingle's exposed surface. Not only are the shingles well engineered, but there are a number of complex, preformed flashings that are used in the valleys, ridges, and edges of the roofline made to make the roof impervious to water & snow. A high performance plastic underlayment is put on the entire roof first with Ice & Water shielding placed in high wear areas. All this comes with a life time warranty that has a 40 yr transferrable warranty if the home is sold. There are various shingle designs & colors; some are aluminum, others are made of steel or a composite material. We went with Classic Roofing System's aluminum Rustic Shingle design whose appearance matches our old cedar shake roof well. We were impressed that Metal Soultions even had already had satellite images of our roof's footprint with the exact square footage of materials needed & an itemized estimated cost calculated before Mr. Burdine came for our initial meeting in February. We made made our commitment to go with Metal Solutions at the end of March and scheduled work to begin on May 1. Two weeks before the start date we met with Dorwin Burdine (Michael's Father) who was our project manager & Osmar Caliz, the job site foreman. Both were very courteous and informative. They gave us a timeline line and the process sequence on how they would proceed with each phase of the job. Due to the heavy rains, work started a week late and we had several days of weather interrupting the job. Each woking day, a crew 3-4 men promptly arrived a 7:30 AM and worked until ~5:30PM. It took almost a month to complete the roof. They were concerned about not starting too early in the day as to not disturb our neighbors. They were very careful taking the old roof off. The landscaping & parts of the house were covered with tarps. They cleaned up every day and there was only a scant amount of loose refuse lying around; this was amazing especially since the landscapers had inadvertently mulched the beds the week before work started and the roof required taking out lots of old nails and splintered shingles. At the end of each day the crew caulked the upper edge of the line of shingles on the unfinished roof so water would not get under the new shingles and took measures to ensure the unfinished roof would not leak if it should rain overnight. Each day Osmar would go over the previous day's progress and go over any issues that arose. He even took pictures of unexpected problems & showed how they were rectified. They had used one of our garage bays to temporarily store supplies during work and when they left it was clean up spotless... Throughout the process & the product we could have not expected more. Of course this roof is expensive but it has superior craftsmanship and durability to match. Relative to the cost of a new cedar shake roof, this is a bargain. If one is considering a cedar shake roof for your new home or for replacement, this is better than a cedar shake...
Description of Work: Tore off old cedar shake roof; replaced water damaged plywood on the old roof; laid a new aluminum shingle roof with new ice & water shielding underlayment in the valleys & critical areas in the roof line; re-did the chimney flashings, replaced the metal cap to one chimney and waterproofed the stone veneer on the other. Removed roof ventilation fans & added a ventilation cap across the top of the roof. Added Gutter guards and repainted the wood trim which were removed to install the new flashing & underlayment.

When we decided to buy a metal roof for our house, we looked at several companies, called references, and drove around to see examples of everyone's work. Metal Solutions was the winner hands-down. It pretty much eclipsed the other companies we looked at. Metal roofs are not cheap in the short term! Our estimates from all companies were a little over 2 times the price of a shingle roof. But if you want a roof for the long-term or to increase the resale value of your home, and therefore decide that metal is what you want, you want a good company because that roof is going to last for your lifetime. We have a weird complex roof shape, with some areas that have given us leaking problems in the past. Michael and the others were able to work out solutions to our issues. Michael came out to measure the roof and give us samples and answer our questions. Our house is an hour away from their office and from the homes of the crew members, so they spent substantial time driving in addition to the working time. When the work started, we had a pretty good crew. We did try to keep track of what was going on to make sure the things we had communicated with Michael (type of roof vent, using leaf inserts in the gutters, etc.) made it to the team who did the actual work. Things did take longer than the original time estimates, but some of that was due to weather. They put the new roof on in 2011 and we hired them again to do our gutters and downspouts in 2012. We love the new roof--it looks good and is more environmentally friendly than shingles. We are already saving money on our energy bills and since we won't have to replace the roof, we expect it to at least pay for itself in a couple of decades.

Dorwin (job site supervisor) arrived Thursday at the time promised... Dorwin discussed with me job plan and details to insure we were on the same page pertaining to what order the job will be done. I was pleasantly surprised to see how efficient and organized the crew was in setup and installing the metal roofing. The crew was very polite and paid attention to any concerns I had. Dorwin, arrived with the crew every morning - going over details of that days plan. Dorwin was in & out but would return to check on the progress and discuss with me the results.. The bottom line is this- Dorwin & his crew was very professional -very polite and completed the job in 3 days (as promised) and I would highly recommend this company and I would use them again..

From the quick response to our inquiry from Angie's List to the conclusion of our project, Metal Solutions provided a completely professional, well-organized and executed roofing project for our home, an older home requiring a full installation with some on-the-fly problem solving. A detailed contract was created upon the first visit with clear directions if we wanted to complete the contract and the payment schedule. The menu of materials, colors and patterns is quite large. The metal is much stronger than most other contracts offered. We especially appreciated that our estimate included removal of debris, clean-up and some extra materials in case of future storm damage. The crew was organized and worked, sometimes into the night with headlamps, in order to keep the project on track. Also. we appreciated the owner personally onsite when necessary and available for discussion on construction points in the job. We entered the contract knowing that there would be a bit of repair expense over and above the work described in the contract, and feel the additional costs were fair and the work appropriate. We appreciated that we were included in all discussions regarding the extra expenditure and work. Working with a family-owned Indiana business was important in our selection and the Burdine family has been in the business for a long time. We are considering a metal roof for another building and will go directly to them when the time comes.

It is with sadness that I have to change my A rating of Metal Solutions to C but it must be done due to an apparent lack of concern for problems that became apparent in the seasons following installation. I had a winter of snow falling on my shrubs, friends and mailmen because I was talked out of getting snow guards then when they were installed a year later I was told they would be glued down, I wanted them to be screwed down as well and though they were they only glued the half of the snowguard to seal the screw leaving a gap where ice and leaves collect. There is a leak in two of the valleys with water getting to the membrane and running down behind the gutters. In one place it is getting into my soffit and running out of a vent. I will update this report depending on the company response as I try to find a solution. ===================First Review, before problems became apparent=========================== The crews arrived early each morning and went right to work. Project manager Dorwin would knock on the door if I was home or call to talk to me about the progress of the job. He was also easily reachable when I called to ask questions. Removal went quickly, a little too quickly, I heard nails going in and went out to check and found that the removal crew had left the tar paper on the roof and were already putting down the underlayment. I asked the crew why and was told that it would offer more protection but I said it would not with a thousand nail holes in it from the previous roof installation and besides the wood needed to be checked for damage in more areas than just around the chimney where I knew there was moisture damage. They complied and tore off all of the paper and took pictures of the wood I did not get a chance to see for myself to show that it was indeed ok. The crew took the gutters off and put them, full of roofing nails, in my driveway where the postman normally walks so I had a friend who was out of work take them for the aluminum, this was met with disappointment by the crew who took them down for they had expected to get them when the job was done. I told them that if they wanted them all they would have needed to do was ask me and take them at the end of each day, as it happened there was some more to come down and I was happy to give it to them but they took it all right away. The crew cleaned up as best they could given that I neglected to rake all of the leaves close to the house so I am still finding the occasional nail, aluminum tailing or piece of shingle in them. My fault. I will do the gutter crew a favor and clean up the leaves beforehand. Counting the filling of all the vent holes, the decking replaced around the chimney plus some short 2X8" support beams by the chimney that had been discolored due to an old leak before I even bought the house they replaced a lot of wood that I expected to be billed for but was not. I certainly thanked them for that. The Angies list coupon was a plus as well. I thought I hired roofers, these guys were magicians, they transformed my house from just one house in a neighborhood of similar model homes to the house everyone has something good to say about now.
Description of Work: I had a single layer, 17 year old asphalt shingle roof torn off down to wood decking, five hat vents and four solar powered attic vents removed, old gutters removed to check the fascia board, some bad roof decking replaced and a new aluminum "classic shake" roof installed in color shake gray.

My wife and I wanted the look of an older farm house without the headaches of an actual old house. Michael and his crew provided the standing seam metal roof and half round galvalume guttering we wanted to achieve the look we wanted. The crew was great, being flexible around other less than responsive subs during the construction. Note, oil canning is always a possibility with a standing seam roof but overall I have not seen any with their work. Any dents or cosmetic issues that came up, they addressed professionally. I would not hesitate to use them again for a project, big or small.

After the first interview with Michael, we knew that this was the right company for us. He was friendly and knowledgeable, honest, and willing to work with our other contractor as we were also putting on new siding. His Dad, Dorwin was our project manager, and even though we live in Bloomington, (quite a distance from their office), he was often at our house making sure things were running smoothly. Our roof has many peaks and valleys which makes it difficult and time consuming to tackle, but Edgar and his crew are real pros- one might even say they are artists! They are a hard working crew, starting before my kids even left for school, and finishing late in the afternoon, but they were so easy to have around. Very friendly and easy going, and even nice to my kids. I got used to having them around, and kind of missed them when the job was finally finished. :) My house looks BEAUTIFUL. People walking their dogs on my street stop to look at my house. All my neighbors have complimented me. I had some reservations and was a little afraid that my house would look like a gymnasium, but it looks awesome, and I trust that it is done right. I feel completely confident that our roof will last as long as I will! We couldn't be happier.

I needed to replace the shingles on my house and garage as they were old, worn and damaged, not to mention ugly. I also needed to have some decking on the house replaced because of slight water damage due to the poor state of the old shingles. The Metal Solutions estimate for this work was the lowest of the three companies I looked at. Though price was important, I weighed all of the factors involved and decided to go with Metal Solutions. The original idea was to remove all of the shingles on the house and just replace the decking that was damaged. A metal roof would then be installed. The house is a log house with cathedral ceilings, so when the damaged decking was removed, I wanted to see what was inside, not knowing what the insulation was between the ceiling and the decking. Much to my surprise, the insulation turned out to be about an inch of low density fiberboard (think 1970s ceiling tiles). About the only thing worse would have been nothing there at all. Mike, the President of Metal Solutions, and my main contact, came over and we discussed my options for insulating the roof with something better than fiber board. One thing that had to be taken into account was that I had recently had high-quality gutters and gutter guards installed, and the impact on these gutters needed to be minimal. The solution we settled upon was to remove all of the decking and fiber board and insulate the roof with 1.5" polyisocyanurate sheet insulation. To accommodate the added thickness, the perimeter of the roof would be built up slightly. This would have the lowest impact on the gutter guards. A rough estimate of the additional work was $5000 - $6000. Once this decision was made, work continued on the house and went pretty smoothly. They also installed a 14" sun tube for me to provide light to a very dark hallway. I did most of the inside work while they did the outside. Since the sun tube is not designed for a cathedral ceiling, we had to improvise a bit on the installation, but we got it in and it looks great inside and out, and functions well. Mike and the crew were a pleasure to work with, great communication and workmanship. The roofs on both the house and the garage look fantastic. The additional decking and insulation came to about $5200, making the total cost of the project just over $20k.
Description of Work: Original service agreement was to remove all shingles on house, replace damaged decking and install metal roof. Metal roof also to be installed on garage, over existing shingles. Estimate for this work was about $15,000.

Michael B was very prompt at returning an email and eventually an estimate. They did an excellent job without having to come to my house (using satellite images). Of course it is just an estimate and disclaimer said they would do an on site measurement before settling on a guaranteed price. The price was fair and much better in comparison to other metal roofing companies. I do intend to use this company to do my roof.

The weather was very bad when they were installing the roof so it took them longer than we thought it would have taken. It took them close to 60 days to get the job finally completed. However, they did a nice job and they cleaned up after themselves. They did come back to take care of a leak, but things were sort of disorganized. I will say that the work seemed to be good, but you are never really sure when you call them if the right people are going to come out. As far as pricing goes, they did give me options on pricing and materials. I would use this company again in the future but with reservations. I would have to follow up with them a little bit more to make sure that we understand each other.

There were some issues in the very beginning with getting someone to return my phone calls. I had all but given up on them when I decided to give it one more shot. From that phone call forward they were very prompt returning calls and emails. The pricing was much better than other companies. There were some communication issues between Metal Solutions and the GC but there were lots of communication issues with the GC so not sure who was the real issue. Metal Solutions made sure the minor issues where taken care of in a professional manner. Crew that installed were very good. The roof is beautiful. People can not believe it is a metal roof. When the time comes to replace the roof on our house we will call Metal Solutions again.

Metal Solutions was selected due to reviews on Angies List. This company also had an article in the newspaper that provided a lot of information. This is a family owned and operated company. It was important to us that the company use it's own employees and not outside contractors. Mike Burdine came out for the initial visit. He looked at the roof and was able to give us a detailed estimate at that time. We also discussed the time frame which of course was subject to the weather. The work was completed in two and a half days which was exactly as estimated. The price was exactly as estimated. We did add snow guards. The crew was totally professional. When they arrived, they went to work immediately. We need to note that they worked during a very cold spell and never missed a beat. The work was monitored and attention paid to every detail. There was a follow up when the work was completed. I would highly recommend the Burdines/Metal Solutions. It was a pleasure to work with them. We love our new roof!!

Overall, we are very satisfied with the experience we had with Metal Solutions. The sales presentation was thorough and professional. We checked some of the prior customer references given to us and those customers seemed to be very satisfied with the work of Metal Solutions. The crew that installed the roof was very courteous toward us and answered our questions as they were working. They worked diligently the entire time they were here and we were satisfied with the work performance. If I have any criticism at all, it is that the yard cleanup was not as thorough as I might like. I found several nails and small pieces of leftover metal in the yard and in the driveway, which could have punctured our car tires had I not found them. We bought a magnet tool and went around the yard and driveway to pick up anything that was left. A metal roof is a MAJOR investment and should not be taken lightly. We did our homework and got other estimates, but Metal Solutions seemed to be more customer-oriented and the price was more in line with what we had expected to pay. Metal Solutions offered lots of options and colors and the roof color we chose really goes well with our house. The warranty on the roof is a limited lifetime warranty. The only thing we didn't get at the time of installation and have since ordered are snow guards. We found that without them, the snow "avalanches" from the roof when the snow begins to melt, creating a hazard around walkways and landscaped areas. Color-coordinated snow guards for the entire roof are costing us an additional $2,000, but are a definite necessity in my opinion.
Description of Work: Metal Solutions fabricated and installed a metal standing seam roof for us at the end of October, 2011. Metal Solutions president Michael Burdine came out to our home almost immediately after we contacted the company and displayed a sincere interest in obtaining our business. The sales presentation was very thorough and he answered all of our questions completely and professionally. He brought samples of the materials in various colors and gave us different options to choose from. We ultimately decided on a standing seam roof versus a metal shingle roof (primarily due to cost and durability concerns). We ordered the roof based on the estimate we were given and Metal Solutions manufactured the panels at their Indianapolis facility. The crew came out in October to install the roof and it took them about 1 week to do it. The roof was installed over our existing ashphalt shingles and was custom fit for our house. The roof looks great and we hope it is the last roof we will ever need.

They will start this job tomorrow. They are a family owned organization that is in our vicinity and they use their own employees other than subcontractors. The whole presentation they did was very good and they are professional. This company is very attentive to what we need for our roof and they worked with us very quickly and productively. I think we have a good fit and will use them again in the future. I used Metal Solutions to bid on roofing my house by covering our roof with a new metal roof.

Showed up on time, had a very friendly crew and the supervisor was always on the job. Clean up was great after the job was finished. Came back to fix up a few minor problems to my complete satisfaction. The owner stopped by several times during the installation and kept us informed as to what was going on. Comparing our electric bills for May, June and July, we saved around $100 for the three months this year versus last year. I assume rates are slightly higher and this year has been hotter. THE NEW ROOF LOOKS GREAT!
Description of Work: Installed a new Gerard Canyon Shake roof over the existing roof. Installed new gutters and downspouts with leaf guard. Put a new metal cap on chimney.

It went very well. He came out and explained all the different options very well. There were some problems with how the crew installed it and the owner came back out and looked it over. He said that we were absolutely right so they came back and corrected it. Even though there was that hiccup we were very pleased with it and how they dealt with it. They agreed 100 percent with what we were saying and fixed it. They were very responsive. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We used Metal Solutions to put on a metal roof over a porch and a dormer window. It wasn't done very well originally and it was leaking so they basically came in and replaced it.

The only hassle was delaying the start date due to materials not being delivered on time that is the reason for the B on punctuality Once materials arrived the installers were great...friendly, cared about their craftsmanship, and hard working, The company provided us with the necessary paper work to attached to our tax return for the energy saver tax rebate worth $1500. I love my roof!!!
Description of Work: Metal roof was installed over existing shingled roof. Our home is over 100 years old and has additions that added several angles to the roofing. We also had new gutters and gutter covers added by Metal Solutions.
