MCVEY HEATING & COOLING

We've been using them for a few years, and things are going well for the most part. They show on time, do good work, and charge almost half of what other companies are charging for services. Furthermore, the owner's son does a good job of explaining issues and how they should be resolved. However, the owner don't seem to take emergency situations too seriously because I phoned once with an urgent matter, and he simply told me that he was fishing on a lake and wouldn't be able to help. He also is lacking a bit in terms of professionalism because he does such things as calling me "kiddo" despite the fact that I'm a mother of three.

It is a family owned business. They educate you about your fans and the speed so you know what you are doing when they aren't around. They have reasonable prices. Scheduling was easy, I called on a Tuesday and they were able to come out the next day. They are always very quick. He was late for one appointment, but apologized and gave me a free service call for the future.

My heating and a/c unit was approx. 22 years old and I knew it was time. McVey delivered and then some. From how fast they initially got to me, to the quality and professionalism I couldn't be happier... and this is in the middle of a heat wave. This family owned and run business (huge plus in my book) exceeded expectations in every way. I never knew my home could be this cool! My heating and a/c were replaced within 2 business days after I decided to upgrade (h*** in retrospect it may not have taken that long.) I was informed in detail step by step of the process and McVey's technicians were very down to earth, informative and friendly. I research everything and actually was prepared to take a larger hit to the checkbook, most likely for less from another company. I can easily recommend this business and will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone that needs these services. These are not "drones" sent out by some conglomerate but real people who actually care and it certainly showed!

We have used this company for our furnace, A/C, and most recently, our water heater. All three appliances were very old when we purchased our home, so we knew it was only a matter of time for each of them. Working with the company has always worked out very smoothly for us and we feel they have always given us fair deals and provided prompt service. For the water heater, we realized it was leaking on a Sunday and called them up. We still had hot water and the leak was minimal, so they scheduled a service call for Tuesday morning. When we woke up Monday morning, we quickly realized the leak had become much worse and there was no hot water. I called the company at 6:45am on Monday to let them know we could not wait until Tuesday and asked if they could come early or provide a reference for another company. Not only were they able to rearrange their schedule to show up Monday morning, but they arrived by 9:00am and replaced our old and broken water heater by 10:00am. I had a perfectly nice hot shower by 11:00am - I couldn't believe how quickly everything was taken care of! On top of it all, we had a number of beach towels on the floor in the basement we had been using to soak up the leaking water. When they cleaned up the area, they took all the towels and started a load in the washer for me so I wouldn't have to deal with it. It was very helpful and I really appreciated them taking the extra steps. I realize they have some poor reports on Angie's list for missing appointments or not being timely, but that has simply never been our experience in the 5-6 times they have been to our home.

We had to have them come out several different times and eventually had to hire another company to do the job right. They just couldn't figure the problem out.

Gentleman was polite, but gave excuses for missing appointment.

I have a home warranty with 2-10 Home Warranty for my new house. My AC was not working, so I called to make a claim. Within 48hrs i received a phone call from the assigned HVAC company, McVay''s Heating and Cooling. They were able to make come look at my house the next day. They were they less than 20min and had my A/C unit repaired. The 'field service charge (assigned by the warranty company) was $50.00. Ron McVay was the one who repaired the unit by replacing the capacitor. The process was extremely easy.

Ron (owner) was always easy to reach, prompt, and seemed knowledgable. However, he never shows up for the repair, and sends other employees who don't seem to know what they are doing. The employee spent over an hours pulling my furnace apart and finally came to the conclusion that I had a bad part that couldn't be obtained because the furnace was too old, determined that I had to get a new furnace, and left, leaving the furnace in pieces. Ron called me to tell me I needed a new furnace, but it didn't smell right, so I called for a second opinion (Mike @ 21st Century). Within 30 minutes he had it all put back together and working perfectly, it was just a flame sensor out of alignment, didn't even need a new part. McVey was either incompetent or dishonest in trying to get me to buy an unneeded furnace. Either way, I won't work with them again.

McVey was assigned to inspect and repair my heat pump's exterior unit by my Home Warranty company. Upon failure of the exterior unit I called the home warranty company and the next day I was contacted to set-up an appointment, which I did for the next day. I was told that they could be there first thing in the morning the next day. I moved all my morning appointments to the afternoon to accommodate. Long story short, the showed up at 4pm, which needless to say was more than disappointing. They replaced the fan motor in my exterior unit and the AC began functioning normal again. Two weeks later the fan motor failed again. I scheduled an appointment through the Home Warranty and they came on time and again replaced the fan motor. Two weeks later, the fan motor failed again. I only paid the deductible but at this point I am wondering if I should go outside the Warranty Company. I don't know if the constant failure of the fix is a function of what the Warranty company allows, the inability to correctly diagnose the true issue or truly just a fluke where 3 separate motors failed. If it is the latter case, so be it, I would still like my expectations to be better set on estimated arrival times.

I have had this company out 3 times to fix my 9 year old furnace because the home warranty company I have only asssigns calls to McVey. 12/22/2009 they replaced a part. 2/22/2010 replaced a circuit board and left. The heat did not work but they 'thought' it was fixed. I had to call them and they had to return that same night and replace the blower motor to get heat going. 3/14/2010 I was without heat for 2 days because the home warranty company I use would not return my emergency calls. McVey came out and replaced a part and charged me $195.00. This should have been no charge as they worked on the furnace just 3 weeks ago and did not take care of the potential problem. If this comp[any had offered me an assessment of the furnace's potential problems I would have paid them good money for that and been able to avoid going without heat.

He called before he came and did an excellent job. He cleaned the coils on the air conditioner as well as the filters in my furnace. He gave me some advice for my air conditioner and furnace since they're so old.

He arrived on time. He was very prompt. He explained things to me and he gave me a small tutorial over the heating and A/C unit. He was extremely polite. He was very quick. I was very comfortable with him.

McVey found that some of the connections had allowed the Freon to leak out. Since we were one year and a couple of weeks from installation, it was not covered under warranty. We do not know if it was faulty installation last year or some other problem. I am also not convinced that $255 for a Freon charge and repairing a couple of connections is a great price. We have always been happy with him in the past, so even though it bothers me that because we didn't need AC until a couple of weeks after the warranty ran out and it could have possibly been installation error that caused the leaks, I am willing to concede that it MAY have been a problem with the equipment, and $255 may be an ok price.

He was able to come out to charge my freon before the weekend. He's very professional, responds quickly, and does good work. Cost is with home buyers warranty.

As usual, answers calls promptly, comes to the house promptly, does the work quickly and well. He replaced our AC unit. He has been doing our heating/cooling maintenance since we moved to this house over a year ago, and again we are very happy.

He came in, asked to see the thermostat and A/C unit and I took him to them. He never asked what my problem was. He reviewed the system and said "here's your problem, whoever wired this thermostat, wired it incorrectly." When I tried to tell him that the system was ohmed out and the thermostat worked fine before he came he wouldn't listen. He refused to review the wiring on the system. He packed his stuff and was walking out. I asked him not to leave until he heard the situation. He stood still for a moment and as I began to talk, he interrupted me verbally and continued to leave. I asked him a third time not to interrupt and he refused to listen. It was very difficult even to get his business card. The system overloaded again before he even left but he was too adamant on leaving to see that. I am still having the overload problem on my system. He was of no help and was exceedingly rude.

Very nice owner. Gave me a great price but I went with another Brand he did not sell. I would highly recommend them.

The work was all done through the home warranty company, so I don't know how much it actually cost. Ron is a really nice guy and know these systems like the back of his hand. I was having a problem with the A/C not working and he identified it as a faulty wire inside at the furnace in about 10 minutes. He is very good about sticking to his word about when he'll be there, and will call ahead to accomodate you. He might sound a little abrasive on the phone, but he is really a nice guy who does quality work.

This company has serviced our heater/AC on two previous occasions - they always show up on time, answer phone calls, come to my house promptly - in general, treat me with common courtesy. Our chimney had some issues with deterioration in the tiles, and they installed a chimney liner. As usual, they arrived on time, did a good job, and were reasonably priced. I like these folks!

I noticed our furnace was not working. I called McVey and he came within 20 minutes. It turns out a workman had shut off the furnace by accident. Even though I was not too bright for not noticing this, Mr. McVey charged me a reduced amount of $40 for the service call. We asked him back a few weeks later to check our A/C unit ($79 including cleaning material and charge) and he arrived when he said he would, called before he came to make sure we were home, and on both occasions has been prompt and responds quickly - I have found, since we moved and are having quite a bit of work done, this is not the way every service person does business, and it is nice that Mr. McVey is so professional.

I HAVE USED HIM THREE TIMES AND EACH TIME IT HAS JUST NOT WORKED OUT.

PATIENT WITH ME BECAUSE I WAS PRETTY UPSET THAT I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING MY FURNACE OPERATING PROPERLY. HE WORKED WITH ME TO MEET MY WORK SCHEDULE GUIDELINES.
