Description of Work: We use Lawn Pride Inc for lawn care. They treat everything. They do irrigation, aeration and keep them from having weeds. They take care of the grass so that it looks beautiful.

Went very well. This was the end of our first year of treatment. They have turned our yard from arguably the worst lawn in the neighborhood to one of the better ones. Only complaint would be the grass grows very fast! Haha, I would highly recommend using them for at least a fall and spring lawn treatment. Most times it is around the same price to use them and they are the professionals! You won't regret it.

I would rather them call me before they come, so I don't have to wait a couple days to mow the lawn. They do a good job. They do what they say, if you have any problems they fix them.

When I originally talked to Rich, it seemed like they had a good plan. The problem was with the execution--it had little or no relationship to the plan I'd been given. The order of the applications was arbitrary and contradictory. I was told one treatment had to precede another, but the opposite schedule was used. Weeds were killed. Fertilizer was applied apparently. I never knew ahead of time what would happen or when. For example, two days before I had to leave for a week long out of town trip, they came and aerated and seeded (which I was told would occur in the fall), and I was expected to water daily for the next two weeks. I protested that and was given a credit toward future applications. But I saw they way they seeded--scattering seed behind a machine without regard to where the bare spots were, and it seemed irrational and ineffective to me. I never noticed any benefit to any of the treatments except the weed poisoning. They wanted to aerate and seed in August during the drought, and I said I certainly did not have time or equipment to water my entire lawn every day for 20 minutes. Plus their methodology is dodgy, in my opinion.

LP has become more and more predatory in its sales practices and I can no longer tolerate the behavior. When we first started using them, they would call the day before service and (if voicemail) leave a callback number if a reschedule or cancellation was necessary. Last year, they removed the call-back number. This year, the message says "we're coming" and you are powerless to stop them for any reason. But the kicker is today, they showed up for a "scheduled overseeding and aeration" that had not been scheduled (with us) nor approved. This poor service guy has to go to peoples houses and ring the doorbell and explain what he's doing. He is basically cold-calling and having to act like it was scheduled. Of course, their office is closed, conveniently, so you can't call and complain or cancel or anything. Enough of the underhanded sales tactics; they will not be visiting my house again. UPDATE based on vendor reply: My wife believed the aeration was going to happen in 2012 -- the phone call happened in September of 2012, eleven months ago -- I'm not sure anyone would approve such a service an entire year in advance. This summer has been much better to our lawn and we clearly do not need either of these services. I still cannot understand how an unreturned voicemail can substitute for approval for an expensive, unneeded service. I have exchanged emails with Lawn Pride management about this review and will give them kudos for replying to me, forwarding recorded phone calls, etc. (By the way, Lawn Pride records all phone calls without your consent or knowledge, if that sort of thing bothers you)

[member name removed], We want to first thank you for your business and entrusting us with your lawn. We are disappointed to see you go as a customer. However, I also want to take this opportunity to correct some of the feedback given. We certainly do not engage in predatory sales practices. The services you were referring to were approved by you wife, [member name removed]on 9/11/2012. We have a recorded conversation where she describes in depth the need for the aeration and the approval of services. Additionally, we left a courtesy voicemail letting you know the services would be rendered in 1-5 business days weather permitting. This voicemail was left on 8/9/2013 and a phone number was provided if any issues arose. Again, we were able to verify this through a recorded conversation. Again, we want to thank you for your business and for taking the time to leave us feedback. We hope the information provided here paints a more accurate description of what happened. My husband decided to call Lawn Pride after seeing their signs in a neighbor's yard. We've been using them for several months now, and our lawn has never looked better. We've used two other companies in the past, but they don't come close to what we've achieved with Lawn Pride. Our lawn is more plush and green than it has ever been in the 9 years we've lived here. Will definitely continue using them.

I had an interesting experience with Lawn Pride. In fact, they canceled me twice! Let me explain. (Yes, long review, but read on). First, the good news. I have no issues with the results of the treatments. The weeds were significantly reduced and the grass became denser and healthier. This is an important point - the product applied seems to work fine; it’s the logistics of how the company operates that was my issue. I had many, many emails and phone calls with various parties. I’ll admit, I am a demanding customer. I received different stories from different personnel, and a common theme that nothing was their fault and the requests I was making as a customer just could not be easily accommodated by their rigid system. Let me describe some examples. When I first responded to their sales flyer, the salesman made a big point about how they treat twice for crabgrass, not just once like others. That first year, since I called too late for the first application, I only received one application that included crabgrass preemergent. The next two years I received no crabgrass preemergent. I was told since many people were seeding due to the previous drought, they could not put down a preemergent, as this would also stop new desired grass. I stated I was not planting, and crabgrass was a big concern. I was told all the trucks had the same formula, so no crabgrass preemergent. So, it was “one size fits all” with no ability to respond to individual customer needs. And I never got that promoted “two crabgrass treatments”, but I did get crabgrass … big time! Failure to live up to sales promises. I also learned that they do not treat weeds in gravel driveways, decorative gravel beds along the house edge, sidewalk cracks, or anywhere that is not “lawn”. Ok, that’s fair; their name is “Lawn Pride”, not “Gravel Driveway Pride”. They also won’t go near neighboring property lines for fear of treating another’s property - state law. Ok, I understand that as well. But it was like pulling teeth to get that admission. They were very hesitant to admit to anything that might make their service look lacking in any way. I spent almost as much time treating the detailed areas they did not as I would have to just do the whole job in the first place. Again, I understand the whys of their position, but nary a peep about these details from the salesmen who tout Lawn Pride as a do-it-all lawn service. I did not want applications for two weeks prior to the Speedway races. This really threw them for a loop. I had a salesman tell me there was no issue with the fertilizer, and in fact he stated you could eat it. I was so tired of the arguments, I once asked “How about just because that’s what the customer wants”. Well, that did not go over good. I’d get robo calls about a treatment with less than 24-hr notice. For various reasons, I needed more than a one-day notice to prepare. They never could accommodate that request. I got robo calls only, never a human. Again, “one size fits all” with no ability to respond to individual needs. I grew vegetables during the summer in a small area. I wanted this area to be aggressively treated prior to vegetable planting, not treated (for the weed killer poison) when vegetables were present, and then aggressively treated after vegetable planting in the fall. This also seemed to be too demanding. I asked if notes could be placed on the work-order ticket, and was told the technician cannot see any system notes. There were unable or unwilling to accommodate this need, I had to skip the entire area all year round and spot treat it myself. The treated property was actually two side-by-side houses. I wanted one of the “we just treated your lawn” sign-sticks placed in both yards, to warn family members of the chemicals on the lawn. The first year, both addresses got sign-sticks. Very good. The next two years, only the billing address got a sign-stick. Repeated calls always assured me if would be done on the next application, but it never was. No ability to be attentive to details, and no ability to put special instructions on a particular customer’s work order. I asked not to receive sales calls selling more services, as my budget for lawn care was already max’ed out, even if those services would have been beneficial. I kept getting sales calls. Each time I related I was supposed to be on the ‘do not solicit’ list, I was told it was the fault of the “new phone system”. They used that “new phone system” for various excuses for three years. You get the idea. Good product, horrible customer service. After months of dealing with a particular salesman, I asked to speak to one of the company principals. Perhaps an owner would like to know of the customer service issues, or perhaps I would be told that’s how the company works, too bad for me. I was told, quote: “Well, that’s not going to happen!” Really, no appeal process to upper management? This salesman then canceled my account. Well, I guess dumping a challenging customer is easier than dealing with them. To their credit, I did receive contact from a company principal, Susan Mcintosh. Interesting … the very management level I was seeking in the first place. Susan came out to the house and we had a great conversation, both being frank and honest about the issues. I admitted certainly I was a demanding customer and just wanted some consistence in contacts, stories, Lawn Pride procedures, and the ability to meet my particular needs. Susan admitted the challenges Lawn Pride had, and the salesman who canceled me overreacted and made the conflict too emotional and personal. In the end, Susan offered to reinstate me, and I accepted to try to continue to work with Lawn Pride. I had planed to take over the lawn work myself and skip the grief, but due to my commitment to Susan, I stayed with Lawn Pride. Things never improved. Every concern was met with excuses. That’s a common thread in some reviews I’ve read. When I challenged an excuse, I was met with a defensive attitude. I still got sales calls … oops, sorry, “new phone system”. I still got one-day notice robo calls … sorry, “that’s how our phone system works and we can’t change it”. I once got a call to solicit me for new business and asked “don’t you know I’m already a customer?” Yeah … “new phone system”. The last two years of recent economic downturn and droughts produced a difficult environment. I put off some treatments because I’d rather have a poor lawn and a paid mortgage than the best looking lawn with a foreclosure sign. (No, Lawn Pride was not the difference between making house payments or not, but one cuts back where one can). They did not like that at all. I had no feeling of Lawn Pride working with the customer. Again, to be fair, during these droughts, perhaps many customers delayed or canceled. Maybe it was tough for Lawn Pride. My dissatisfaction was never with my lawn or it’s condition - especially if I put off treatments. It was with the rigid unadaptable business practices, excuses, and defensive reactions to my valid points, oh, and that perpetual “new phone system” and its errors. After many more phone discussions, I emailed who I thought was my benefactor, Susan Mcintosh. She had told me if I ever help with Lawn Pride, I could contact her personally using her direct email. I did so, but rather than have any conversation to hear my side, she sent me an impersonal email stating “we are just not the company for you” and I was abruptly canceled … again. Well, actually I agree, they are not the company for me! That was interesting because I had not fired Lawn Pride to do it myself out of respect for Susan Mcintosh, but in the end it was she who fired me. And it got really funny when two weeks later, I got a call from the sales department wanting to see if they could schedule some lawn treatments or add me as a customer. I asked the gentleman, “Don’t you know Susan Mcintosh just fired me two weeks ago?” Poor guy, I could almost hear the beep-beep-beep sound, as he had to back away from his call quickly. And yes, you guessed it … the call was blamed on their “new phone system”. I waited nearly a year to make this report. This is not out of emotionalism. I did take over my lawn duties, from fertilization to weed control, starting in the fall of ‘12. The lawn was a mess after the drought. I am glad to say that my lawn has come out of the worst three years in recent history looking great. Not perfect, but well recovered. And no stories, excuses, discussions, scheduling issues, etc. So in the end I thank Susan Mcintosh for firing me as that allowed me to take my lawn care back myself. In conclusion, based on my experience, if you are the type to sit back, shut up, buy what they sell, pay your invoice, and don’t make waves, then the Lawn Pride product seems to work fine. But if you want a company to actually meet the needs of an individual customer, well, I would just be wary.

4/22/2013 Received a call this morning from Lawn Pride's GM, Susan, and we discussed a plan of attack to correct the appearance of our yard. I am very pleased with her responsiveness and commitment to her customers. 4/21/2013 Lawn Pride has been treating our lawn for at least the last three years, so last fall we scheduled an aeration and overseeding hoping to improve the condition of our front and side yard. Prior to our first treatment this spring I called our representative to let him know the seeding last fall didn't seem to take and I had some concerns before they resumed their normal treatment schedule. Our representative said they would take a look and get back to me. The next day when I came home after work, there was lawn pride sign planted near our drive way and a bill attached to our door. The bill included charges for a spring treatment and the technician's recommendation noted that the seeding didn't take but strongly encouraged us to schedule an aeration and overseeding in the fall. I called the following day and was transferred to our representative's voicemail, and have not received a call back (over a week ago). Our front yard is in dreadful shape with bare patches and black medic throughout. I feel like we wasted our money last fall and now owe for a treatment that I didn't approve.

Services have not yet been received. The 12/23/12 date is when I wrote a check for NEXT year's services. After payment was made, a second billing was received in late January with a different amount. I am hoping their lawn service will be less confusing and more accurate than their billing practice. From what the service representative shared about their service, I'm looking forward to the lawn applications to see how well they work compared to my previous lawn service. I will update Angie's List again once services have been performed and there has been time for the lawn to react to their applications.

Dear Member, I would like to apologize for the confusion with your billing in January. We emailed our customers in November offering a 10% saving to prepay for next years services. The 10% savings was offered until mid January and after this time all customers were then mailed out an additional mailing offfering 7% savings and I beileive that is why the difference in billing from the time you had paid your account. I hope this clears up any confusion you may have had with us and as always we value your business and look forward to working with you in 2013.

The impact of the seeding on the front is okay...somewhat inconsistent. But the fact that they went into the back yard is where the problem is. The other work we were having done back there included grading, so most of the backyard was newly laid, very soft soil that had already been seeded and fertilized. When Lawn Pride took their machine over this soil, it created huge ruts, largely ruining the grading in numerous areas. Furthermore, they seeded areas in the back that were never intended to have grass. The work we'd done with our other vendor to establish designated turf areas and non-turf areas was ruined. Additionally, in the course of doing this work they damaged the phone/internet cable. We were without service for 2 days and had the extra hassle of getting that resolved. I called Lawn Pride ASAP after seeing the state of our backyard. The first person I talked to was quite nasty, but then I got a lovely call back from the original sales guy I worked with. They had reviewed the taped call when I ordered service and admitted that this was their fault: the order to stay out of the back had not been noted correctly. I was optimistic at this point that we'd get this resolved. After all, mistakes happen. Unfortunately, the efforts to resolve the mistakes have be astoundingly frustrating. Although my sales rep and one other rep from the company were gracious to deal with, everyone else has been exceedingly difficult and distinctly lacking in remorse for the havoc they created. They admitted fault, but then were very slow to respond (took 4 days to get a decision-maker to our home) and nasty when they did. One of the most stunning moments has been the refusal of the company president to have any dialogue direction with us. Really? Our desired resolution was that they compensate us for the corrective work needed to repair our back yard, which could be as high as $1300, but is likely to be lower. We've extended that we're happy to agree on a cap for the compensation...we're not expecting a blank check. They have offered two options: not to charge us for this service so we can apply that to the other vendor ($134 dollars), or that they do the repair work themselves. The latter option is not one we consider reasonable because 1) such landscaping work is outside the bounds of their areas of focus (do you see landscaping on their website?) and 2) as nasty as they've been with us, we have no confidence in them coming to do quality work. The first offering of $134 is not acceptable because it is a fraction of what the repairs will cost. Right now we're at a stalemate. Because the damage occurred so late in the season, corrective work would have been a waste of money, so we're waiting until the spring. We'll have the other vendor in, get the work done and pay that vendor, and try to reopen talks with Lawn Pride in order to receive compensation for the corrective work. In the meantime, we paid 50% of our invoice, representing the work on the front yard that was requested. Having our backyard torn up was crushing. But the way we've been treated has been even more devastating. As much as possible we just want to be made whole: Lawn Pride covering our costs for having our original vendor back to fix the problems that Lawn Pride admits creating. This experience leaves us with no confidence whatsoever in Lawn Pride's actual work, nor their commitment to customer satisfaction, which greatly influences the quality of work.
Description of Work: We'd been using Lawn Pride for weed control and fertilizing, then engaged them for aeration/overseeding this fall. I spoke at length with the sales rep regarding our specific situation, which was that we just had our sewer line replace and needed to repair the scar through the front yard, however, we just needed help in the front yard because we had a major yard project with another vendor happening in the back. Lawn Pride came and did the aeration/seeding in the front yard. And the sides. And the back. They were only to work on the front.

Even with the severe draught of the year the grass survived much better that any of the several previous years with Tru-Green. The services were done without any hang up (like leaks of tanks that killed grass per Tru-Green). Very professional.
Description of Work: Provided lawn fertilization and insect/weed control in six applications during the year 2012.

I was contacted by Lawn Pride salesperson in the fall of 2011. I had already stopped my previous lawncare not because of issues with him but I felt I wasn't getting the look and weed control I wanted. Lawnpride did a fall application for free then started the full program in early spring beginning March 2012. Due to the drought and watering restrictions it's not fair to evaluate the look of the lawn. I did call lawnpride about some weed growth in an area where I had removed 2 pine trees and the stumps the previous year. I didn't think the techs were using weed control in the area even though it is part of my yard. I spoke with the President of the company and she was very apologetic and sent a crew out to put down some weed control at no cost. Then in the fall with aeration and overseeding it didn't appear there had been any seed laid down even though the paperwork done indicated a charge for overseeding. I spoke with my rep at LawnPride. He sent a rep out to take a look. The rep agreed with me that it didn't appear there had been any seeding. LawnPride had a crew come back out and do some seeding. While the rep was out looking at the seeding he put down some weed control on some ground cover that was growing in my front lawn even though he said it would die in the fall. I am going to stay with LawnPride for another season so I can evaluate the look of the lawn next summer. Hopefully we don't have another drought. I gave a C for quality because of the calls I had to make for weed control and overseeding but due to the quick correction I gave an A for responsiveness.
Description of Work: Had 6 applications of either fertilization or weed control each at $45 including tax and mileage charge. Also had fall aeration at $120 and a summer grub control application for $86.

We have worked with Lawnpride for several years and have had landscaping and sodding completed by them along with regular lawn treatments, aeration, and fertilizing. They do a good job and are very responsive to our concerns and questions. They suggest services that need to be done and keep a normal schedule of treatments.
Description of Work: Perform lawn treatments throughout the year.

Five stars all the way across or more if you can squeeze them in. They are all great people. It was a great deal and excellent service. I have highly recommended them to neighbors and even strangers! I try to give accolades where accolades are due.
Description of Work: They spruced up my mother's yard and nuked out the weeds except for just a couple that look like trolls. I got rid of those yesterday.

I chose them because one of my neighbors works for them, and I trust the guy. The choice was based entirely on a social relationship. They got their foot in the door, and I liked the work that they did. My only complaint is that they did not always contact me in person before they sent someone out to do an application. My neighbor moved away, and that’s one of the reasons I will not be using them again this year. I’m not that happy with the work they did this year. I was happy with the work they did last year, except that they sometimes didn’t call beforehand, to let me know they were doing an application. That’s a definite no-no in my book. The work they did was good. We have one of the best yards in the neighborhood, even though it looked battered a couple of years ago. I can’t seem to mow it fast enough, so they did a good job in turning that around. They were here during the day, so for the most part, I never saw them. The result was very good. The people I talked to online including my neighbor, who is a sales-rep for the company, were all very professional. They were very respectful. I would probably use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I use Lawn Pride for my lawn and yard work and also for outdoor pest control. For pest control, they come in the Fall and in the Spring and treat especially for bagworms. They use bait bombs to go after insects.
