They came when it was raining and were supposed to install a gate. They dug a hole by the post ppoured cement over it and barely got any in the hole. The gate they had didn't fit and they have not been in contact with me since to fix the hole or put in the new gate. My daughter also used them and they have done horrible work for her as well and have not communicated properly on either side. Its the communication that have gotten us. They don't show up or show up out of nowhere. They do not keep in contact at all.

We are extremely pleased with our fence. It looks fantastic and it is exactly what we asked for. The crew did amazing work, and all of them were very friendly and professional. We ran into several challenges throughout this process and while some of them were not their responsibility, Nick, Nikki, Adam, Brandon, Nikki and their crew did everything they could to help quickly resolve our issues and get the job finished. It looks great and we couldn't be happier! Thank you!

We have a back yard where neighbors on all three sides have a 6 foot shadow box fence(constructed by three different companies). We completed the enclosure of our back yard by hiring K and M to construct a fence connecting to our neighbors' existing fences. I received 3 quotes from all three of these companies. K and M were the most reasonably priced. Adam M. was our sales rep and he was awesome. part of the reason for constructing the fence was to keep our son (who has autism) secure in the backyard. It did not take but two days for our son to realize that he could climb the gate from the inside using the Z-shaped frame on the gate. Adam had his guys come out and put planks on the inside of both gates which solved the problem. They did that with a sense of urgency and at no extra charge. CANNOT THANK THEM ENOUGH!

I didn't think it was possible to have an even better experience than the first time with K and M, but their quality, organization, attention to detail, and clean-up is second to none. Brandon is amazing in working with you on options and communicating with you. With small kids, I needed this done in one day to keep kids in and people out...and they completed in record time. The double gate is not something I had with the prior fence and this will allow me to get landscapers in the back without the need to remove fence panels, as I had to do in the past. Rex and his team were perfectionists on making sure the fence was level and had a good flow from front to back. We had a potential issue with the gate as vinyl are straight across and I had a large drop from one side to the other. Rex worked with me from where I thought I would have to dig out, to only needing some minor fill on the low end. They saved me money and back breaking labor and the gate opens perfectly and looks great. If you want professionalism and perfection, look no further. Not to mention their price is competitive with the regional and national companies, but their service sets it apart. I need to trust those working at my house and I welcome them back anytime and in my home. In fact, I have one more side to replace and I will not consider anyone else.
Description of Work: K and M removed an additional 100' of wood shadowbox and installed a solid vinyl privacy fence with a double gate, which is an awesome must for every back yard.

If you are in need of a fence install, removal, or repair, look no further than K&M Fence. I solicited multiple companies for a quote for a fence replacement from shadowbox wood to vinyl privacy. From the start I knew they were the best with responsiveness, suggestions, and caring about your time and schedule. As for their work and dedication, it is unmatched with anyone I've had work on my homes over the years. They showed up promptly, were respectful of my time, and kept me informed throughout the job. To top it off, they worked on one of the worst days possible. It was raw outside with snow and strong gusty winds. I had suggested postponing, but they kept the schedule respecting my time as I was already off work. They worked quickly and the level of perfectionism and professionalism is unmatched. If they had a question, they asked me, instead of assuming and potentially doing something different than I would like, such as the gap to the ground or dirt spreading. They worked through the cold and completed the removal and install easily in one day. They cleaned up everything and thanked me for my business. The later is not something you always get. K&M also gave me a suggestion of someone who could remove a tree, which got me out of a jam. They truly work with and for you. On top of all this, they have a great warranty, are awesome people, and you know you can trust in them as firefighters. Give back to them for what they do for all of us and hire them today. You will not regret it and will enjoy your fence and outdoor time for years to come!

Comment: Per a recommendation in Angies List I used the services provided by K & M Fence. In spite of frozen, snow covered ground, low temperatures and gusty wind they did an OUTSTANDING job. Not only was the workmanship first rate but they used materials of the best quality. The job was to replace my mailbox support assembly (2X6 lumber bolted to buried telephone poles) that had been damaged beyond repair by a drunk driver. The crew stayed and took care of details that I thought I would have to do.

[removed members name], Thank you for the review. Due to the outside nature of most of our work, scheduling is and always will be a challenge. When we start a job we never really know how long it will take until we start digging. Every piece of ground is different. The ground could be nice and soft with no rocks or tree roots. Or we could hit bricks, rocks, roots, or any other number of items. This always affects our schedule. We can plan it all out on paper and have all of our customers notified of their install dates, then it rains or we run into rough digging, and it throws a wrench in the hole schedule. Then we have to try and remember to notify every customer on the schedule that they are pushed back. This can be a lot of customers since we do 10-20 jobs a week. I have been doing this for 5 years and I have yet to find a way around any of this. For example someone that installs cabinets or lays carpet knows exactly how long it will take and doesn't have to worry about weather conditions. They can plan their schedule out relatively easy without any kinks. Or we may show up to a job and the utility company hasn't marked it. So then we have to push that customer back which opens a spot for someone else. It is a constant battle!! Thank you for your business!

K and M Fence's estimate was similar to other fencing companies. What we liked was that they were very willing to work with us concerning repairs and adjustments of the existing fencing and the reuse of the gates that had been removed previously. We were very pleased with the attention that the estimators gave to us and the men that did the work. It was a very cold day when the work was done, yet it didn't seem to affect the attitude of the installers. After the work was completed, we noticed two small areas of concern. The response when we called was very polite and professional, and the installers came out soon after with great remedies to our concerns.
Description of Work: K and M Fence installed a 5 foot fence on an area of our yard where fencing was taken down. In addition, they repaired fencing and replaced the old (had been removed) double gates. We needed several other adjustments, and repairs to the overall existing fences, and gates.

Brandon came out in a timely manner to measure for an estimate. I received the estimate within a few days and work was started on time. Crew worked hard for long hours. Any mess including wire pieces were cleaned up. Great work. Found an issue with one of the gates after I paid them in full and they were very responsive about fixing it. I would re-hire them. Very satisfied.

Taken me along time to review, as this company wears you out, just so glad for it to be over. But, after all the hassles, like the other reviewer commented, just live with it. Now, my fence has streaks running down, wherever it is fastened. So, try and contact Brandon, to see what is going on. You guessed it, NO response, hoping maybe I will get one here. Which is why I am writing, and to give a heads up to others wanting to spend there hard earned money. So, I have someone look at it, seems wrong fasteners were used for cedar. Ones that should of been used, I understand cost more. Guess, only K & M can address what they used. Summary of problems: Comments: After contract signed, no more customer service. You get future jobs by referrals, knew 2 looking. Lots of excuses... Customers hate this, plus a lot of time wasted for you. I am a firemen, and have another job. Brandon, everyone has jobs. Sure find the time to sell the job. Time working Show up late, leave early, or don't come @ all, & no call. Zoning Issue, wanted to replace 8ft, only allow 6th My fault, should of checked, told no permit needed. Stair stepping fence, gates/1 blew open Had to tear out, & re-do. On gate, told it was windy, Really. Promises, you know how people use to do it, if they got behind they started earlier, or stayed later to get caught up, and guess what they called. I will be following up with the Angie's crew to help solve this matter. Worked & saved along time to do this project. Don't want anything more than what I paid for. Brandon wish he could of handled this the easy way.

Response from K and M Fence
This project has been a nightmare from the start. Our contract clearly states that the homeowner is supposed obtain HOA approval and permits. So basically find out if you can have an 8' tall fence. The homeowner had an existing 8' tall fence we removed. We originally installed an 8' tall fence. Then our installer didn't install the fence the way we had discussed so we had to start over building the 8' tall fence again. During the process of installing the 8' tall fence the 2nd time. The city came in and said they couldn't have an 8' tall fence anymore unless it was a repair to an existing fence. So had we known we could just leave one existing post we could have built the 8' tall fence. But instead we now had install a 6' tall fence. Then we were stuck with a custom made set of 8' tall gates that will probably sit around for the next 20 years. There went any profit for the fence. Customer refused to pay for the gates. There is no way for us to know what every town and cities rules are in the state of Indiana. So that wasn't our fault. We were charged a restocking fee for the 8' tall boards which the customer didn't pay for either. At this point there was going to be no pleasing these customers since they got screwed out of their 8' tall fence. Some people will just never be happy. Now on to the nails that are streaking. About the only way to not have a fence where the nails streak is to use screws. The homeowner was fully aware that we use ring shank galvanized nails. Guess what screws cost more as does all the extra time it takes to install screws. On a fence this size your probably talking an additional 2 days labor. It doesn't matter what kind of nails are used or what they are coated with. Once the striker on the nail gun hits the head of the screw any coating gets scraped off anyways. Just like every wood fence there is it has to be maintained. Pressure washing and staining fences is not our responsibility. If they didn't want to deal with the maintenance that comes with a wood privacy fence then maybe they should have gotten a pvc fence. And the customer also ripped our signs off the fence and threatened to charge us a storage fee for the 8' tall gates that were still at their house. I'm done with these people. I deal with customers like this all the time. Oh, and yes I am a firefighter. I work 24 hours every 3rd day. Then I get up at 7am and immediately start working at the fence company usually until 6 or 7 at night. And then I work another 12 hours at the fence company the next day and then back to the firehouse for 24 hours. As we speak I'm working 48 straight hours at the firehouse. I maybe get to see my kids a couple hours a week. And I hardly ever get a day off. So yes sometimes communication at our company is bad. But we make up for it by not installing cheap crappy fences like most of the fly by night companies out there install.

K and M Fence was fantastic! My repair had been delayed by about 6 weeks because I had originally tried to hire a competitor. After several weeks of back and forth and then never receiving a quote I called K and M. They came out the day they said they would come, scheduled time to come out later that day and my fenced was repaired in one day! Amazing service and respect for customers. I will definitely use K and M for my next fence and highly recommend you try them too.

Brandon came out and measure our yard and provided a competitive quote via email. We worked with Brandon to set up a date and time. We also asked him to repair a gate on part of the fence we weren't replacing at this time. He came out to take a second look and again, was competitive in price. Even with the fall weather encroaching, Brandon's team was able to start our fence the day we decided on. It took 3 days total. After removing the old fence and digging new off set post holes, they found old concrete from a previously installed fence. That set them back some time, but they got the job done and it looks fabulous. Our drive gate is 8 feet now and set with 6x6 post. It is so much more functional that our old drive gate. I can't wait to get the rest of the fence replaced in the spring! We couldn't be happier. In addition to K & M Fencing having a competitive price, we did also select them because they are Fire Fighters. My husband is a former fire fighter. Thank you for Protecting and serving the community AND for our new wonderful fence.

I messaged K & M through Angie's List and received a follow up email and phone call the next day. They were able to schedule a day and time for a quote the next week. Brandon arrived on time and was very professional. He explained my options and took measurements. He then emailed me the quote a few days later. Quote was very competitive. I emailed him a few questions and am waiting to hear back, as well as waiting on my HOA before a fence is installed.

Brandon and Adam came over and gave us an estimate. We decided to go with them and sent them a check for the materials and they said they could start on April 23rd. They didn't show up so I emailed them and they said they were behind so they wouldn't be able to start till till next week but could go ahead and tear the old one down on Friday the 25th. They did come out on Friday and tore most of the old fence down. They said they would be out on the 30th to install it. On the 30th they didn't show up so I emailed them and hey said they were still behind and they would be out on may 1st or second. Well on Friday may second they informed me that they still didn't have the materials. He said they could start on Monday May 12th. A guy and a younger guy showed up Monday and completed the fence today May 13th. Neither Brandon or Adam was here since the quote. There was definitely some communication issues that would have been solved if they would have just called or emailed and said they were behind. I'm sure most of the problem was from their supplier. With all that said I would still recommend them because the fence looks great and the price was very reasonable. It just took a little longer that we thought.

[removed member name], I don't disagree with anything you have said. Communication is definitely are worst area. With just myself and my business partner running the office side of things it can very hard for us to communicate with everyone. Adam not only sells jobs and helps run the company, but he is also our lead installer. And with me working every third day at the firehouse our communication is sometimes very poor. Usually I get about 30 emails a day from customers that I have to try and address sometimes between runs at the firehouse. The addition of our new secretary this year has made a lot things go much smoother. But scheduling jobs continues to be a nightmare. And it is something that will never change just because of the fact that we never know how long a job will really take us until we get there and start digging to see how the ground is. So if I initially plan a job for 2 days it may really take 4 days because of rough digging. Then that pushes back 1 or 2 customers. And it is just a constant battle. That is why I absolutely hate giving customers and exact install date. Recently I have just been giving them a week that their fence will be done because it seems if I give someone an exact date it never happens on that exact date. And then the rain also pushes back. But I'm glad you like the new fence and I apologize for the communication problems. Thanks, Brandon

5 people showed up the next morning After getting us on the schedule, they were able to move up the date a bit, which made our dogs happy, since they were on leashes until this job was to be completed. Thursday, some materials were delivered and on Friday, two gentlemen came to start removing old fencing and getting posts set. Since the backyard was quite large and the ground wasn't the easiest to dig through, they completed 2 of the 3 fence lines with set posts. They told me they would come back tomorrow(Saturday) to set the 3rd line and then return on Monday to complete the job. To our delight, 5 people showed up the next morning to set posts and complete the job! There were a couple issues with tripped circuit breakers and seemingly defective air compressors, but I was able to supply them with additional extension cords and keep them powered through the day. The only knock on the crew that came out on Saturday, was that they were contracted and not actually K&M employees. They were there to knock it out, but didn't seem to have the caring attitude that Scott (from K&M) had towards the job. Split boards were installed and gates were built differently than K&M typically do. That being said, the split boards were replaced and we are now waiting for a couple others to be replaced, since we inspected a little more thoroughly after they left. We would hire them again. The pricing and responsiveness were excellent.

I appreciated their responsiveness and their honesty in letting me know that the job would need to be planned according to the weather. K&M sent both an estimate and the final invoice by e-mail in .pdf format, which was a convenient way to do business. While waiting on frequent, intermittent rain to end, K&M stayed in touch with me about making sure the job would be scheduled as soon the weather improved. They did just that. The fence is no longer a source of embarassment. I will recommend K&M Fence to anyone else who needs fence repair or replacement.

My neighbor was having some work done with fences and said he heard good things about K & M Fence. Brandon Kingery responded immediately when I contacted him and came to my house. He came out on a Monday morning in August and gave me a quote of 450.00. I agreed to it. He said he would be out on Friday morning at 8:00 of that week to install. He was very professional. As I had to be out of town at the end of week, I hired someone to be there. No one ever came according to my person who was at the hours. I contacted Brandon via cell phone as soon as I found out no one was working. Brandon told me they decided to work on another property that morning instead, He said they would be there at 1:00. He never came, instead going to a neighboring property who was also having work done. I came home at 2:00 expecting them to be there and they were not working, however the person I hired was still there. I went out and asked them about my fence. They said they would not be able to do it that day. During this process, I had gone on Angie's List and typed in what he had on all of his emails - K and M Fence Company. I told him I looked him up and there was nothing on Angie's List. He assured me he was. I said it was blank and he had no professional background and credibility as I had heard. I discovered that he was signed himself off as K and M Fence on his emails. It turns out his official name is K & M Fence. I had to ask him specifically what he was registered as. He was not signing his emails correctly! I had no other way of knowing he was signing himself as one on his emails and the same on Angie's List, as well as having one as K&M Fence which is how he is registered. He did say he would come out the next morning at 8:30 and also offered to lower the price since I had a whole day with someone waiting. I do appreciate that and expected him to arrive on time. As I had to work that day, I again had someone there to be there when I had to leave. No one arrived at 8:30 the next morning. Finally, we saw someone 8:50 beginning the fence. When I called Brandon about this later, he said the worker sat in front of the house in his vehicle at 8:30 and no one came out. He did not knock, plus the fence is in the back of the house off of the alley where he had been working the day before. He once again apologized, I understand that things happen, however I wasted a lot of time and had someone there when I did not need to have. The fence looks great and is of excellent quality, however the communication within the company is poor. I do hope this company gets their name and communications in order as the quality of the work is outstanding. I told Brandon I was not sure it was worth the effort of hiring them because of the waiting for no one to appear or go to work somewhere else instead. He apologized many times, however it was a very frustrating experience. I did view on Angie's List when I finally found the correct name, other members had noted communication problems as well. I do think he has an excellent product and this company does excellent work. I did note above in the check box I would never hire them again, because it was forced choice. If they ever become proficient at arriving when they are to and communications within the company are in order, I might hire them again as I have more work. However, not until then.

Response from K and M Fence
A lot of this makes no sense to me [member name removed] had a guy at her house that she did appear to be paying. But the man appeared to be doing other work on the house. He wasn't just there to watch over us. [member name removed] kind of jumped into this job with our original customer which was her neighbor. Things happen and and we don't always get to jobs when we say we can. We never know how long a job will take until we start digging and see what's under the ground. And my business was early the second day. He made sure to be on time.

Hired provider to install steel ornamental fence (wrought-iron look) on our property. Price was excellent and provider was able to start project in a timely manner. Installation crew arrived and we discussed the fence product and overall aspects of the installation. Instructions for installation were supplied by the manufacturer and provided to the crew at this meeting. We discussed how extra posts were purchased as the fence panels cannot be racked and we desired stair steps in the sloped areas of the yard. Crew leader took the instructions and commented that he has been installing fence for many years and did not need to read these instructions. At the end of work day one I came home and wrote the owner of K&M with the following concerns: 1. Our neighbor has a sprinkler system so we told the guys it was OK to install the posts on that neighbor?s side up to 6 inches in from the property line so they did not have to be concerned with damaging the neighbor?s sprinklers. We measured and the posts were set 7 to 9 inches from the property line in places. This placement resulted in us having only one fence picket plus a panel on that side which is not cosmetically appealling. 2. Posts did not appear to be set for stair stepping (I laid the extra posts near the areas where stair steps were desired and these posts were left in the yard uninstalled). 3. Expressed concern that several posts have more than 84? exposed so less than 24? is buried in concrete which is the minimum recommended amount for frost environment. K&M replied that his crew ran a string line between property stakes and set posts 6 inches inside the property line, the fence was set up for stair stepping, and that the ground was too rough for digging. Since these posts were now set in concrete there really isn't much we could do so we decided to live with the installation with the exception of having additional posts installed for stair-stepping (without these extra posts the gap between fence and ground would be too large in several spots). After the panels were installed it was apparent the crew did not follow the manufacturer's installation instructions -- all of the fence panel brackets were installed upside down (largely a cosmetic issue but frustrating) and several fence panels were installed with the bottom of the panel touching the ground (manufacturer instructions suggested one to three inches above grouns and my wife gave that direction to the crew leader). Again we decided to live with the installation as is because the only way to correct would have been a complete re-installation which would have prolonged the project, added stress to our lives, and been financially impractical for the installer (replacement material would cost several thousand dollars). The crew was not able to finish as three fence panels were damaged in transit and not discovered until the crew reached the bottom of the stacked panels. When replacement panels arrived the crew returned and essentially finished the installation. I asked K&M to return as we noticed one fence panel was cut too short and the panel was barely attached (half the panel was outside of the installation brackets), one panel was installed with two missing finials, and the ball caps were set too high (posts needed to be cut a couple inches). This work was completed as requested. A final invoice was submitted and we paid in full considering the job finished. Our invoice indicated paperwork for the 3 year craftsmanship warranty would be mailed upon receipt of payment...after several weeks the paperwork has not been received. As with many construction or home-improvement projects one often notices something after the job is finished and needs the item to be recitfied under the installer's warranty. Less than one month later we noticed the latch bar for one of the gates was too long (the gate was installed next to the house). As a result, the gate could not close properly. The installation crew compensated for this by cutting the latch bar, never mentioning this fact to us. Again, a cosmetic issue but in my opinion this really looks sloppy. In addition as the gate settled the latch bar rubbed against the house so the gate could not close completely. The latch on the other fence gate was dangling as one of the two supporting screws was broken. To me it appeared that the screw was over-tightened and that led to it breaking. I sent photographs of the gate latches to K&M requesting the repairs. After no response for a week I sent a follow up request, asking for both latches to be repaired. The only way we could think of to fix the gate with the latch rubbing against the house was to change the hinging of the gate. I asked K&M to make this change and indicated I would supply the new posts needed to facilitate the change. The response I received from K&M was, "How can we be sure your screws were over driven and its not caused by slamming of the gate? And if you wanted the gate to swing a specific way shouldn't that have been mentioned before our installation?" To be clear I did not care about the gate swing until I noticed the latch hitting my house. Why would I want a gate with a latch hitting my house every time I used the gate? The crew never mentioned the latch would not fit the space and instead left it to the home owner to discover their less than desirable solution. I wrote K&M and asked them to abide by their warranty instead of blaming the customer. In a follow up communication the owner of K&M insisted he was not trying to blame the customer, gates are abused through everyday use, we had an inferior latch which they would never recommend anyone installing, and insisted I should have discussed the gate swing at time of installation. The last comment really makes me angry....his crew does not discuss the latch issue at time of installation when they encounter it and it is my fault for not being happy about their sloppy solution. No alternative solutions and no apology for poor craftsmanship. The owner of K&M closed his response by saying he would "try and get someone out there next week to take a look at everything". More than two weeks have passed with no further follow-up from K&M. I have had new latches installed that will work with the gates as presently configured. If the K&M crew had followed the manufacturer's instructions which were supplied and communicated with the customer when encountering difficulty I think the outcome would have been a better installation.

Member, 1. I have not forgotten about your fence issues. Every week I mention to my business partner when are we going to get (member name removed)'s fence fixed. It's not very easy for me to make it to places sometimes. A lot of people work a 40 hour week and have lots of time on their hands. I work a 24 hour shift every third day at one fire department and frequently work 12 or 24 hour shifts at another fire department. Not to mention trying to run this company, install jobs, sell jobs, bill jobs, and repair jobs. I probably have worked 100 plus hour weeks for the last 4 years. So please bare with me. We currently only have one crew right now. So it's hard to get a crew out immediately to take care of repair work. Had I sent you our warranty paperwork like I should have already you would have saw that it says we need 30 days from time of notice to make the repairs. Again that's not your fault it is mine. Warranty paperwork is something that I guess has been put on the back burner with my hectic schedule. I wish you had not posted this before reaching out again. Also the original installer that started his job is no longer with the company. After your job and a few others I realized his quality of work and attitude about not caring about what his products looked like wasn't a good fit for the company.
