Everything looks great. My wife thought it was a little expensive for the amount of work. I just wanted to get the job done. They did track some drywall mud on to the tile floor. We cleaned it up with soap and water.
Description of Work: We had a water leak. Part of the drywall was remove to determine were the leak was located, they replaced the drywall, mudded and retextured the ceiling.

I called and made an appointment with Luther to come out and look at a bathroom ceiling that needed textured. He was able to come out the next day after our phone call which was great. He told us how much it would be and that he could have his crew out there the next morning at 8 a.m.. Since they could come out so fast I just decided to use them instead of getting any other quotes. 2 of his crew showed up early at 7:45 - they were very patient while I put my dog away and got some items out of the bathroom. The men covered the tile floor, but didn't cover our sink, toilet and shower. It took them about an hour to finish the job. I was happy with the way the ceiling looked but I was not happy about the fact that there were some plaster droppings on our toilet, sink and shower. Also, they didn't put tape up on the top of the walls so there was white around the perimeter of the area. I didn't think there should be as some painting tape would have stopped anything from touching the walls. This meant that I had to get my old paint out (luckily I still had some) and repaint/touch up the wall around the entire perimeter. I also had to use warm water to remove the plaster droppings.
Description of Work: I had a ceiling in my bathroom textured.

The re-texturing of the ceiling patch job was ok but not as good as a job I had done in the past by another company. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of the company I used previously. I was pleased with everything else.

They did a great job. They responded quickly, and they were here doing the work within 48 hours of placing the call. Their estimate and scheduling went very smoothly and quickly, and their prices were very reasonable. They did a marvelous job, and the quality of their work was high. We were very happy with them and will definitely use them again.

After contacting several companies, Spears seemed to be the only company who was truly able to complete the work on our ceiling. (Our living room ceiling is curved in a unique way; all 4 corners dip down, like a tent). They gave us an estimate and were able to come out and complete the work quickly. We were in the midst of repairing our home after a fire, so some of the damage was covered by insurance (the ceiling and living room walls) and the other rooms were covered by our own costs. The work was very messy, but they did a great job of working with us to keep things clean and work around the other work in progress. The work was completed within a couple of days and when we called to have them come back out a few months later to fix the bubbling spots, they were again out within days.
Description of Work: They skimmed the walls in 4 rooms and recreated a plastered ceiling of our 1926 Craftsman home. They were professional and did beautiful work. This company came highly recommended and we know why. After they completed all of the work, a few places bubbled up (where small residual amounts of layers of old wallpaper had remained) and they came back and fixed these spots without hesitation and at no extra charge. We highly recommend their work and will use this company again for any plastering needs we have.

I had an excellent experience. Luther showed up on time, explained what needed to be done, and did the work only a few days later. It ended up being a minor repair with no drywall being replaced, but he could have easily led me astray by doing more work than was necessary. He was professional and courteous at all times: a shining example of someone who believes in good old-fashioned service at a fair price.
Description of Work: I had had a roof leak years ago and had never had the interior ceiling repaired. I have a textured ceiling and was concered about the repair looking obvious.

We removed half-wall paneling and chair rail molding in our den, but there was no drywall behind it. We reviewed the reports on Angie's List and decided to contact Luther Spears first. He came out, gave what we viewed as a very reasonable estimate ($560) and we liked him so much that we looked no further. Hired his group (which really is mostly his family members) for the job and they completed everything within a few days. Needed a teeny bit of touch-up, which they happily do if needed - all they ask is that you prime first, so you can see all of the imperfections more clearly. We primed about 1 month later (we got the flu, didn't get around to it), and during that time Luther called to check on us, to see if we still wanted them to return (note: nice follow-up, very classy). We did, so we primed in the next week and then they were out to do the touch-up. At that time, we then decided to remove the faux wood beams in the same room and had them do a bit more work to touch up the ceiling and repair a 4X4inch hole that we accidentally created during the beam removal. So all of this additional touch-up, repairing the hole (required replacing drywall stud-to-stud), and cleaning up some mold damage behind one of the beams was $270. Extremely reasonable overall, given that they were at our house five times. What I like about this company and their crew is their pleasant, old-fashioned customer service (even the company logo portrays this). But the best part is they were ALWAYS on time, and even early in some cases. I also appreciated that when little things needed done (ie the touch-ups) they were able to schedule it early in the morning (eg as early as 7:30 when I needed it) so I could still get to work on time. The team was always pleasant, and very accommodating. Even offered to help me move some furniture back. I'd hire them again, for sure. And Luther, the main guy, is absolutely delightful.
Description of Work: (1) Inserted half-wall of drywall for a 16X13' room, after we removed paneling and chair rail molding, (2) fixed ceiling where faux wood beams had been removed and where we had accidentally created a 4X4' hole when removing the beams, and (3) fixed area where some water-damage/mold had occurred behind one of the (removed) beams.

Luther is awesome. We've had him do work on multiple occasions, and he has done work on most of the houses in our neighborhood. I gave him a call and he was out the next day to give me a quote. They began the work soon after. They are efficient and careful not track plaster throughout the house.
Description of Work: 2 jobs: 1. ripped out weak spots on interior walls where plaster was crumbling due to settling and minor water damage in old house. Then re-plastered to match existing texture. Required 2 trips. 2. patched 4' x 6" swath where stucco was cut out on exterior wall around our water line and dryer vent. We thought this might have contributed to air leakage in our basement and when we discussed this with the guys they volunteered to seal the area around our water line with "yellow stuff" we already had. I really appreciated this!

Mr. Spears responded very quickly to my call. We had trouble scheduling a time during the week when we could both make it, so he readily offered to come by on Saturday morning, which worked perfectly. He was prompt and I had the quote in about 30 minutes for the repair of three different places in my home. A combination of plastering and drywall. He was able to schedule the work promptly and the workers did the job on two separate days. They were neat and tidy and cleaned up after themselves. The only thing I could say is that we had "dust free" dry-walling done in the past and that was lovely . I believe that when sanding there was a vacuum going at the same time that prevented all the dust from going EVERYWHERE! Mr. Spear's operation did not use that device and left quite a lot of dust that needed to be cleaned up later.

They did a great job. Removing and hanging drywall went very well. I think at the end they were trying to hurry because the last area they textured doesn't blend as well as the first does, but overall it's what was quoted and it's pretty good.

We have used this company before with good results. They are a family owned business and they certainly know what they are doing. The price may be high, but you do get what you pay for. They bring enough people to get the job done quickly. They clean up after themselves, but they could clean their dropclothes. Drywall work is messy and some clean up is expected.

Luther came out, looked it over, then sent me an estimate. His price was fixed (as opposed to "no less than, no more than") and Luther was personable. The job took 3 days with the last day just coming out and sanding. They put down tarp, cleaned up their stuff at the end of the day, were punctual and did the work starting on Friday, ending on Sunday. During the sanding, they put up tarps and plastic over the open doors and opened the kitchen window to keep the dust down. They did a good job vacuuming the space afterwards. We had made a change where I had created a box on the wall to hang the stove's exhaust fan. I asked if they could make it pretty, which they did. I didn't ask them if it would cost more, which it did. They asked for an additional $40 for that. Reasonable I suppose, but it would have been nice if they had mentioned that when they said "not a problem."

Would definitely not do business with this company. Sorry for not giving you the proper instructions. I gave this person 2 ways to get to my home. I could have given him the right instructions but I did not record the conversation so I don't have any way of knowing for sure.
Description of Work: Called and set-up an appt. The person called the next day and said he could not find my home. According to him, I gave him the wrong instructions to get to my home (that could be true, I don't know exactly what I told him). Anyway, when he called he was about five miles from my house and couldn't figure out how to get to my house from what I was telling him. He said he would call the next day. He did not return the call the next day. He also said, that he's never been that lost in his 43 years of driving to work sites. I find that hard to believe. I think he handled this very unprofessionally. I'm sorry for giving him the wrong instructions if I did so. I just moved here from Texas 2 months ago and don't have the town of Brownsburg completely mastered, so excuse me for that.

Were able to come out for a free estimate within 48 hours of initial call. Luther was very professional and gave us a reasonable estimate of $360. Would have used him, if it weren't for another company who came for an estimate that went above and beyond and was able to meet some other needs we had as part of our remodel. Would definitely recommend him based on our limited interaction.

Mr. Spears was extremely responsive to my request for an estimate as he came out the next day after I called him. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding what is required to perform a quality repair. He committed to having a crew out the very next morning. His crew arrived promptly and began working. Both men were considerate of their surroundings as they took time to remove all figurines and knick-knacks dressers. They cut out the cracks, removed the wall mounted TV stand, and repair all areas. They explained that they would need to return the next day to sand the areas after they dried. They committed to returning at 8:30 am Saturday morning and were on time. They sanded the areas smoothly and cleaned up well.

Hole was cut into textured ceiling in order to install a new bath fan. Luther was called to provide an estimate. He scheduled quickly and arrived promptly. He thoroughly described what would be required and provided a reasonable bid. Scheduling was a bit complicated as this was a small job that they tried to fit in between other jobs. Once scheduled, the crew arrived promptly. They covered all surfaces to/from the bathroom and within the bathroom to protect from damage and did excellent work. The textures are a close match to others in the home. They explained how long to allow the work to dry before painting.

The job took one more day than originally estimated. I had to have them return to redo the shower because the drywall was not square. No problem with any of this. They came and went just as promised. Jim told me that he lost money on the job because of the additional framing needed. I paid him $255 more dollars than the estimate. I appreciated the great job that they did and the fact that my son and I are not professionals and did cause them extra work. That was reasonable to me. Plus, they returned to correct the shower problem. I have already set up an estimate to fix some water damage. They are going to plaster 3 places on the second floor. I have to have this done by October 1st, and this includes a new roof going on before they can do the plastering. I have every confidence in there ability to come through for me!
Description of Work: Was in need of drywalling for a new bathroom my son and I are putting in his house. I designed and framed in this bathroom. Did all the wiring and plumbing. This room has many angles and slopes. I knew it was going to be difficult to drywall, so I called Spears based on the reports here. I was amazed at the low estimate ($1,545) but that is what another report had said.
