Hi, [Member Name Removed], Hope you and yours had a super Christmas holiday! When I read the review you posted on Christmas Day, I have to admit to being a bit flabbergasted since the work I did for you was over four months ago, back on August 18. However, I do recall the work, partly due to my notes, but mainly due to the fact that your particular ceiling fan was a bit troublesome and, admittedly took an inordinate length of time to replace. In fact, my notes on that day indicate it took a grand total of 3.5 hours of actual work time. You had purchased one of my specials--the $99 ceiling fan installation--which, depending on the type and complexity of the fans and the type of wiring involved, usually takes about two hours. In your case, I believe the main issue involved my inability to get the fan blades to balance with the included kit. This kit allows the fan blades to operate smoothly as they go around without making the fan wobble. Additionally, I'm sure the project was made to seem time-consuming due to the fact that I had to make a physical therapy appointment at 2:00P (left at 1:30P) which I logically combined with a lunch break. I returned at approx. 3:30 to complete the installation. Ultimately, the fan tested operational and without wobble on all but the high speed which you indicated wouldn't be employed anyway. Then, as you may recall, we moved to your laundry room to talk about installing some shelves at a future appointment. After discussing this project, I left your house at approx. 5:30P, so if you include the time it took to fulfill my therapy appointment, the total time from start to finish was a total of approx. 6.0 hours (11:30A-5:30P). I do regret that yours was one of the more troublesome installations and that I exacerbated the situation by leaving in the middle of the process. However, I am consoled by the fact that it was a $99 special that cost you nothing further for the time I spent other than the inconvenience of having a contractor at your house twice in one day. Due to this inconvenience, please accept my offer of a 10% discount on a future repair appointment that you might be considering in the upcoming year. Have a happy and prosperous new year! Steve Salmon President

Steve Salmon is the consumate professional handyman. His prices are fair, and he is very up-front about how long a job will take and how much it will more than likely cost. He is meticulous, thorough, a hard worker, innovative in finding solutions to household repairs and problems, and scrupulously honest. He kept me informed and let me know exactly what he was doing at all times and gave me options for different courses of action to solve my repair needs. His work was excellent in all respects and his attention to detail noteworthy. His integrity is beyond reproach. When asked to provide and estimate and build a shelf unit with butcher block top for my kitchen, he researched the job, made inquiries with other carpentry professionals, and then called to say that he felt the job was beyond his skill set and consequently referred me to the people he thought could get the job done the way I wanted it to be done. He could have just as easily subcontracted the job out and then charged me an arm and a leg, but wanted to be honest about his own abilities and limitations with me. Hard to find that sort of honesty and integrity these days in any profession. I intend to use him in the future for other jobs I need done around the house and I recommend him without reservation to anyone who is looking for a skilled home workman and honest laborer.
Description of Work: Steve worked at my home, an older house in Broadripple in need of some upgrades and renovation, all week long removing old baseboard electric heaters, repairing and patching the resultant holes in the wall, and removing a cabinet in preparation for a kitchen renovation. He also rerouted and installed a better drainage system for my downspouts so as to avoid the chronic basement seepage I experienced whenever we have heavy rains. Additionally, he identified and replaced several old and not-up-to-code electrical outlets, even calling in an electrician friend to consult on a particularly difficult wiring problem in a room addition.

Dear (Member name removed), Can't thank you enough for your in-depth review of my performance with your projects! It was, indeed, a pleasure working with both you and your wife and I'm glad that you found everything satisfactory. I'd be happy to have you call on me again whenever the inevitable need arises as it most surely will when you prefer to maintain an older home in style as you both do. Kudos to you for keeping your property looking and feeling inviting and up-to-date in the popular Broad Ripple area! Your neighborhood handyman, Steve

Steve did a fabulous job. The quality of his work was excellent and he cleaned everything up afterwards. Also, he is very professional -- his communications were great, and he gave great care and attention to figuring the bill, which was very fair and reasonable given the time that was required (almost a whole morning). This was the second time we have used Steve. Previously, he did a carpentry job for us (fabulous!), and now he has shown that he can handle plumbing jobs -- truly an "indy-of-all-trades!" We will definitely call on him again, and we highly recommend him!
Description of Work: Steve fixed a toilet that had been running, replacing and updating parts of the flushing mechanism. He also replaced the broken shut-off valve and replaced and updated the pipe connecting it to the tank.

[member name removed], I'm pleased that you were so satisfied with my recent service. Receiving high praise such as this makes an often-challenging line of work worth the effort. Word-of-mouth is very important in the trades, so I always strive to satisfy the customer. So glad to have you as a repeat customer who I can trust to refer me to friends and family. I look forward to helping you with your next project in 2014. Always a pleasure, Steve

Steve was hired by our exterior house painter to do clap board repairs on our house before painting. Upon examining a rotted band board on the front corner of our house, we discovered most of the corner of our house had major dry rot and bug damage...including the sill plate the first floor joists sit on?it was a major project. We are so glad Steve took on the project. With his problem-solving skills and his meticulous craftsmanship the repair was done perfectly. The job was huge but he worked us into his busy schedule over the next several weeks. Steve is professional, easy to work with, on time and communicated well. He provides estimates with no surprises and provides a detailed list of all costs. We really appreciated his work ethic and values?an all around great person to work with.
Description of Work: Repair of dry rot and bug damage on the corner of a 3 story historic home. Damage started at sill plate and continued half way up second story. His work Included shoring up house under 6 joists in crawl space and securing the joists with sister beams and securing and reframing one corner of the house. He also replaced half of clap boards on front and side corner of the house. On a second project he repaired a very large rotted hole under a second story eve. This also required replacing the gutter board along the back side of the house.

Dear Member, Your gracious commentary regarding the large project we completed for you during the summer of '12 is both heartwarming and encouraging, to say the least! This is the kind of feedback that makes overcoming a series of challenges presented by projects such as yours all the sweeter. I couldn't have done it without the coaching of a local tradesman who specializes in Woodruff Place area renovations. I would mention him by name but that may not be acceptable in this setting. Tackling tough projects serves to increase confidence for the next challenge, so I genuinely appreciate your willingness to let me solve your multiple structural issues, especially with only minimal assistance from other workers. That was truly a "leap of faith"! The overall experience really helped me grow as a tradesman. Thank you so much for the opportunity! Steve S. (a.k.a. "Indy")

Steve was wonderful to work with. His communications were great, his estimates of both cost and time were excellent, he was pleasant, and did a great job of clean-up afterwards. We were especially impressed that he suggested two modifications to our little project which we had not thought of -- anchoring the two cabinets to each other, and adding trimwork around the edges. It was a great improvement. Our cabinets are now not only securely anchored, but they are also very attractive. We are extremely pleased with this job. We will definitely use Steve again and highly recommend him.
Description of Work: We had purchased two large put-it-together-yourself pantry cabinets for our kitchen. We got them put them together okay but then the problem was, they needed to be anchored to the wall and we needed help with that. Steve Salmon not only anchored them to the wall, he also anchored them to each other, and also removed the baseboard where needed and added some nice trimming around the cabinet edges. He did a fabulous job.

Great.....both jobs were done to perfection.
Description of Work: Steve repaired our maintenance barn before it was painted. The wood was rotting and it was in bad shape. He spent a lot of time on fixing the barn and replacing the wood that was rotting out. He is a perfectionist. In addition, he installed our new mailbox and did an outstanding job. The price was a little more than I expected for the barn repair, but it was a fair price when you consider he worked on the barn for over 2 days. I would highly recommend Steve and he has a great work ethic.

He was very good. We spent about $3000 on that work. It started out as a small project, but ended up as a big one. He was very responsive, both by e-mail and kept us informed of what was needed and what was going on. We liked that he kept us praised of what he was doing or thought needed to be done. He worked with our care taker who also kept informing us about what he was doing. The first time we have used him and liked him and we would use him again.
