They were fantastic to work with - highly recommend. More options to customize the system than their largest competitor, can adjust the system yourself instead of paying their techs to come out and adjust for you. Always willing to answer questions by phone. Showed up for estimate appointment and installation exactly when they said they would, took plenty of time to answer all of our questions. Left helpful paperwork with us re: training and using the system. Considerably cheaper than their largest competitor as well. No complaints!

Indiana Dog Fence did an excellent job. The Pet Stop underground pet containment system is by far the best system on the market today. I am an electrical engineer and did my research before selecting what product I wanted installed at my home to contain our two dogs. The Pet Stop product used by Indiana Dog Fence is 100% made in the U.S.A., and the company manufacturing this system is actually owned by the former owner and president of Invisible Fence, John Purtell, who sold the company and years later returned to the industry to create Pet Stop. The wiring used for this system is 14 gauge, the heaviest of all products available. (Others use 18 or 16 gauge.) The system is also digital, fully lightening protected and has many more collar and pet correction modes than other products ... plus it is much safer than other product offers. Do your own research and you will see the differences. Indiana Dog Fence owner Bob Swarm knows his product and was a pleasure to work with. He actually visited my home before we signed a contract to review the installation and provided some great advice. I thought I knew how I wanted our underground pet containment system installed and where I wanted the system to be buried ... Bob offered some alternatives I had not considered and we went with his suggestions - which were spot on!! On the day of installation Bob showed up with an assistant and they had the system completely installed in less than 3 hours. They did a terrifc job and we are very satisfied. You cannot even tell they installed anything at all!! Highly recommended!

I called Indiana Dog Fence because they were the only local dealer in the type of dog door I wanted (Plexidor). The entire experience was pleasant and trouble-free: they quoted, ordered the door, came out when they said they would, and did a good job installing it. No problems whatsoever.

It took a little while to get the appointment scheduled because they are short on staff currently, but the owner Bob came out as promised during the scheduled window. Generally speaking, he was fast and efficient with his work. For what was done, I thought it was a bit pricey, but that was mostly related to the fact that the lifetime warranties do not transfer between owners so I had to re-purchase. Not sure if it was a great deal or not, but I went ahead with it for $100. I see identical transmitter boards on ebay for $185, so I guess $100 is less than $185 should I ever have to get a new board due to failure/power surge. Overall I was pleased with the work. Bob is very personable, didn't mind as I watched him work, and answered all my questions about the system since I tend to be interested in how things work. He was also very good around my dog Abby and explained the training process thoroughly.

He left the strand of my wire sticking up out of the ground and had my neighbor tell me about it when I got home. I called the office later in the day and left a message that my wire had been cut and asking if we could work something out on getting it repaired. I was not asking for it to be done for free, but I was asking if we could work a better price out for a repair. My line was installed too far over and cutting it was an accident, I expected we could come to an agreeable way to get it repaired. Bob returned my message the next day, leaving the following message “Hi it's Bob Storm with Indiana Dog Fence, getting back with you. I hope you understand that I had absolutely no way of knowing that your wire was there if I had actually come over on your property and cut your line and I would definitely be responsible for that but it was obviously your wires about a foot or so over on two on your neighbor's property so you know, it may be broke in more than that one time with the wire popped out because it probably crossed out again further in the backyard and maybe even once more in the front yard it's hard to say but anyway I gotta go and I mean if if that's the only break there is and you know it's gonna be about eighty five dollars to fix it and. Otherwise you know we usually charge a thirty dollars surcharge if it's you know another company strands but I would waive that for you. My recommendation would be to get to have that wire moved over on the other side so it's all on your property because there could be some interference on that system. With those wires crossed each other like they are but if you like you can call me back directly. My cell phone number is 7161927. Thank you very much.” His message left the impression that: 1. This was obviously my problem for having another company install my fence 2. He is unable or unwilling to locate existing lines on other properties prior to installing new lines 3. He would repair it, at his normal rate. I would have expected 1. Using the equipment all dog fence companies have to locate fence wires, he would have noted the location of my line. The sign on my mailbox alerts everyone that an invisible fence is installed 2. Informing me, himself, by leaving a note or calling me later about what happened during the installation at my neighbors house 3. Offering to repair the break at a reasonable, reduced, cost since his action caused the problem, regardless of where the wire was located It was not broken prior to his arrival. When I tried to call him, I was unable to talk to him. I called the office and talked to the secretary who repeated the same message Bob had given me. In frustration, I ask he to have him contact me that evening, which he did and left a voice mail chiding me for being upset with his secretary and requesting I contact him directly. I have chosen to do neither. Customer service apparently isn't a big issue with this company. Once the product is installed and he is out of the picture, his job is done. This has created an uncomfortable situation between my new neighbor and myself, that would not have happened if he had taken the initiative to contact me and work to fix the problem that occurred.

Response from Indiana Dog Fence
As the owner of Indiana Dog Fence, I feel compelled to set the record straight on this matter. I have been in this business for 11 years. In this time, I have encountered many occasions of property line confusion with neighbors. In this instance, my customer did the responsible thing by having a stake survey done of his property lines. Before I ever begin an install, I always discuss with my customers and they actually sign off that they understand that I am not responsible for private lines and utilities in their yard that they cannot give me the exact locations of. I have never had an issue until this job and in particular, [member name removed]. While installing the job, my customer expressed concern that the [member name removed] had an underground fence, so we made the joint decision to keep the wire a good 12" inside of the stake survey lines. Unfortunately, I did cut [member name removed] dog fence wire at least once during the installation. Due to the layout of my customers fence, there was a definite possibility that I had crossed his wire multiple times. It was impossible for me to ascertain the extent of the damage, as there was nobody home at the [member name removed]. When I showed my customer the wire from the [member name removed] fence that had come out of the ground, they asked me who would be responsible for the damage. I explained to them that it was obvious that the [member name removed] had put their wire well into my customers yard and liability clearly fell on their shoulders. I told them that the wire could be cut multiple times and the best course of action would be for the [member name removed] to have their wire moved over onto their own property and thus take care of not only the current issue, but any future issues that could arise from lawn aeration, tree planting or any other unforeseeable issues that the future could bring. My customer was in agreement with my assessment and I then assumed that the issue was closed as far as my customer and I were concerned. The next day, my administrative assistant received a phone call from [member name removed]. At this time, although he was not rude, he left no doubt that he held me responsible for cutting his wire that was at least a foot on my customers property, and he expected a discount for me to fix it. He requested a call from me, which I promptly attempted at my first opportunity. I got [member name removed] voicemail and explained that I was clearly not liable for his failure to have his yard surveyed at the time he had his fence installed and that I would be happy to come out and repair the cut for my regular fee of $85.00 minus the usual $30.00 surcharge that we charge individuals that are not our customers. I also left him my cell phone number and asked him to call me personally to discuss the matter. Instead, [member name removed] chose to call my administrative assistant again, and this time he was less than pleasant. He threatened to call the Better Business Bureau and was generally "nasty" with her. After she relayed this to me, I again attempted to call [member name removed]. Again, I got his voicemail. I left him a message that expressed my displeasure with him being harsh with my office staff and reiterated the fact that I had left him my cell number with a request to call me personally. I also offered him a special price of $50.00 to fix his wire, providing that it was only cut one time and would not get into extensive work. I never heard back from [member name removed] until I saw this review on Angie's List. With 25 years experience with my own business in home remodeling and my 11 years in the pet containment industry. I have always strived for custom satisfaction. Occasionally, as unfortunate as it is, there are occasions where you will not be able to satisfy certain personality types. I feel that my other reviews on Angie's List speak for themselves and I wish [member name removed] the best.

The installers showed us how to use the collars, how to change the intensity, and how to vary the distance from the fence the correction would take place. All in all, we are very happy with the company and would recommend them to any other dog owners.
Description of Work: We contacted Indiana Dog Fence last December because we added a new dog to our family. Just after we agreed to terms, the weather got very cold and snowy and stayed that way until just recently -- about three months! The fence could not be installed under those conditions. As soon as the weather got better they contacted us and immediately installed the fence.

This is the third time we've used Indiana Dog Fence/Pet Stop: the initial installation of the underground fence, an upgrade and this time for purchase/installation of a dog door. We've always had outstanding service from Bob and Susanne when we called about service or had questions. Bob was out today to install the dog door, was early and finished the job quickly and professionally. The installation is exactly what we contracted for and Bob cleaned up after completing his work. We would always go back to Indiana Dog Fence/Pet Stop for this type of service and would recommend them to anyone considering an underground dog fence, we've had ours since 2003 and it works perfectly.

Bob was very efficient, helpful, informative, professional, and trustworthy. He updated my old system (from another company) for my new puppy. I have had big dogs for the last 25 years in this home and my new puppy is only going to be 10 lbs so I am thrilled with the small collar and gentle steps option for training purposes. I want to especially give Bob kudos as my system was upgraded as part of a live auction item I purchased at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation black tie Gala in 4/13. His generous donation was part of the puppy package I secured which included my puppy. My son is 25 years old and has was diagnosed with Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes at age 12 and wears and insulin pump 24 hours a day which is his lifeline. That makes my puppy and fencing even more special. I would recommend this company and Bob to anyone looking for pet containment.
Description of Work: Bob Swarm, the owner, came out and looked at the Invisible Fencing I have had for years and determined it was usable and could be upgraded. He installed a new digital box as my old system was 25 years old. He was able to use the wire I had installed about 12 years ago as an upgrade at that time. He gave me basic instructions on how to train my puppy and showed me how to use the digital box, collar, and battery charger for the collar (very easy). He left paper information as well and encouraged me to call with questions. I have not had the need to do so but may as I continue gradually removing the flags. I did purchase the battery charger and collar at an additional cost of $135 but that was my option an I am glad I did. It charges within several hours and blinks when it needs charging.

The owner came out and gave us an estimate in July and we had the Invisible Fence installed on 8-14-13. I liked that the company wasn't pushy about you buying from them. They gave us time and did a follow up check to see if we were still interested in installing a fence. On the day of install the person who was to put the fence in called in sick so the owner Bob came out and installed the fence. I am impressed how much the owner is involved with everything. When Bob came out we walked the property and marked where we wanted the flags put. My husband said that he is happy with the way the install went because he said the stones that were kicked up with the digging that Bob had picked them up, and put them to the side. It took about 4hours to do the install, and then Bob went over everything as to how the fence worked. My dog didn't respond to the low setting so we turned it up to where she was responding. Bob said he didn't want to go to high at first because he didn't want to have the dog not wanting to go outside, and stay on the porch. He took the dog around the yard and was teaching her. We haven't had to have the company come back out to teach because she is responding well to the fence. What makes me happy is when I call the company the lady always answers, I have never had trouble getting through. She is very nice, and always answers any questions I have. The dog went through the fence once and I called to get the setting moved up because at the time she was still in the training numbers. Once we got the collar turned up she has never went out of it. I am so happy with this company. I am pleased with the whole experience. It was well worth the money to now enjoy our dog staying in the yard. I don't feel that I have to worry about her running into the street. I feel any problems we have in the future that the company will be there to take care of any problems.

The installation took about 4 hours or so, including the time to mark the fence with flags for my dog to see. The installer was nice, took fifteen minutes to explain how the system works, how to change the settings, turn it off, etc, etc. And then he worked with my dog and I to train us on how the fence works, how to train the dog to stay within the fence, etc. The system works great, my dog is still learning, but it is definitely containing him. I'm very pleased with the installation and the Pet Stop invisible fence.

The experience from start to finish was 100% positive. My initial contact was via email and the responses were polite, professional and prompt. There were no high pressure sales tactics. The installation was on time and went very smoothly. Bob and Jason spent extra time to make sure we had the correct collar fit and training level set for my dogs. I have a puppy and an older dog so settings needed to be customized for each dog. I was told to contact them at anytime with questions etc. I would reccomend the product and their service.

The receiver on my dog's collar seemed to be working sporadically and the dog started to bolt from the yard. Bob came out and thoroughly tested both the board and the receiver. He explained that while the board is old and will need to be replaced eventually, the actual problem was that the receiver and board weren't on the same frequency. He corrected it and didn't charge me because he said the error had been his company's at some point. I was thoroughly impressed by his professionalism and honesty.

Excellent. The owner, Bob, came out to assess our needs, inspect our property and propose a solution and variety of layouts. I love when an owner sells and installs the product as they have more "skin in the game" to make it right. He was very responsive and upfront with his recommendations. There was no pressure or unprofessionalism toward the competition. They came out right after a lot of rain and were able to bury the fence to the maximum distance. They kept the installation as clean as possible and cleaned-up when they were done. Bob performed the first training for our dog and then spent time with us showing how to do additional training as well as training on the control panel.

In July we found a stray boxer wandering our yard in the heat and was very malnourished. After a week of trying to find its owner, we adopted it as our own. We used Pet Stop about 4 years ago when we moved into this house with 2 acres of yard space. Bob came back out when we notified him of our new canine addition to our family. He remarked the line with flags and trained him for about an hour. He is a very knowledgeable and patient person when it comes to invisible fencing products and training. We purchase additional batteries from him for their collars and he's very responsive. Will continue to use his services when needed and highly recommend him.

We at Indiana Dog Fence always strive to give top notch service. Whenever someone calls our office to inquire about pricing, we always give them the option of having a in home quote, or to be given a quote over the phone. Using Google Earth is a very effective way to measure out a property and quote exact pricing over the phone. The majority of our sales this year were done using Google Earth and our customers were very happy to be given this option. Our competitors want to send a "salesperson" to a potential customers home in order to "sell" them a system. With our informative website, http://www.indianadogfence.com and todays modern technology, we find that the vast majority of people appreciate not having to set time aside with their busy schedules in order to meet numerous sales people at their homes. As stated, we always give potential customers the option. The Pet Stop brand of Pet Fence Systems are proudly designed, tested and manufactured in the U.S.A. In order to stay competitive in todays marketplace while going against competitors who sell China made products, we work very hard to stay mean and lean. Our service is second to none and we are very proud of our Angies List rating. We are very sorry that the member's expectations were not met. We wish her the best of luck with whatever choice she may have made.

According to our records, we went on an estimate for a member on July 25th, 2008. At that time, we show his address to be on Easy Street. This is not the address that he shows on the report. This was 6 months before I purchased the company and 2 and a half years before we started carrying pet doors. The member apparently chose not to have us install a pet fence at that time. We have not been to his house that he currently shows as his address to quote a pet fence or pet doors. I believe this to be a bogus report. Bob Swarm Indiana Dog Fence & Pet Doors

We have been customers for 8 years now and have always received professional and honest service.
Description of Work: The receiver on our dog's collar was about 8 years old and needed to be replaced.
