We have a great team of people to help you with buying new fabrics and guiding you in your interior decorating endeavors. There are three major areas of expertise that we specialize in. Upholstery work from skilled workers. Carpet and furniture cleaning. Custom woodworking such as headboards, ottomans, and banquet seating.

I went to them because I had purchased two chairs that scenic designer just HAD to have despite their having really obnoxious stains that other people had obviously tried to clean. They worked miracles!!!! And, just because they are that sort of professionals, they noticed that the seats of the chairs were sagging a bit. They fixed that as well for no additional charge. Honestly, I am so impressed with their skills and care that I will never go to anyone else in town.

Great! Mr. LeBlanc, the designer and manufacturer of my custom chair talked with Mr. Hughey directly. Mr. LaBlanc is located outside of Boston. LeBlanc needed to send Mr. Hughey parts and a spare motor. Enthusiastically endorse Hughey Hartman Upholstery for their fair prices and excellent quality service.
Description of Work: Replaced motor, controller, and lift mechanism to my Andrew LeBlanc custom recliner. Now chair is like new.

I would absolutely NOT recommend Hughey Hartman to ANYONE. There are plenty of other upholstery businesses in the area that would be far more professional to work with that Hughey Hartman. The owner is extremely unprofessional -- i.e. yelled at me and raised his voice several times. I brought in 6 dining chairs to have reupholstered. The pricing model that Hughey Hartman uses is non-existent. When on the phone with him, he told me that it is usually between $20-50 to re-upholster a chair. That said, what I was quoted was quite different. For the chair bottoms it was $35; for the chair backs it was $50. We agreed on this price, I provided a down payment and then left knowing that he would call me in 10 days when they were finished. As I was about to leave, Mr Hughey wasn't saying anything (I assumed a and quot;bye,and quot; or and quot;have a great eveningand quot;, or and quot;We'll call you when they're finishedand quot; would have been appropriate), so I asked him if there was anything I was missing or he needed from me and he responded that, and quot;A thank you would be niceand quot;... and quot;since we settled on a price lower than what I originally quoted.and quot; Absolutely not a professional response at all. This should have been my first red flag, but I left the chairs expecting to get a call back in 10 days that they were finished. Fast forward 24 hours -- I received a called from Mr Hughey stating that my fabric wasn't matching up right. It appeared that one cut of fabric I brought in was from a different dye-lot, thus it wasn't going to match the other fabric I brought in. In the middle of this call with Mr Hughey, he then told me he had another call coming in so transferred over to that in the middle of our conversation, then hung up on me. I proceeded to call back 2 minutes later and one of his employees answered and told me Mr Hughey was now out of the office. I do find this hard to believe since he had JUST CALLED me. I then spoke with the employee about the situation and she was EXTREMELY helpful. If I could have worked with her the whole time during this project then I believe the outcome would be different. We agreed that I would go in the next morning and look at the fabric myself to see if/how we would proceed with the project. Fast forward 48 hours from originally chair drop-off -- went into the shop and confirmed that the fabric wasn't matching. Completely my fault (probably something that I should have checked for, though I didn't know about different dye-lots at the time). Mr Hughey and his helpful employee were then willingly helping me come up with an alternative solution. Mr Hughey said that he would sell me this different fabric (which would have looked GREAT on the chair seats) for $30 (for 3 yards). I agreed and we decided to NOT do the chair backs at this time. So now my total comes to $35/chair x 6 chairs plus the $30 for new fabric. Total comes to $240. Mr Hughey told me that my total would be $340. Where did that new higher total come from?? All that said, the money isn't the biggest issue in this whole situation. When I asked Mr Hughey how he had come to that total and he proceeded to yell at me (in front of all his employees) and told me that he was and quot;sick of this project and I should just take my chairs and leaveand quot;. Shocked, I just stood there because I have never been yelled at by an owner of a store -- especially when just asking how he arrived at the total (which I'm allowed to do since I'm the paying customer). Mr Hughey stormed off, then asked me to come to his office. He proposed that they would finish the work for the total he said ($340), or I take my chairs now and leave with a refund. Needless to say, I took my chairs and left. He was the most unprofessional individual I've ever worked with. Eye rolling, yelling, raised voice were all part of what I experienced. I would absolutely NOT recommend him to anyone.

The client came into my shop with a set of six dining chairs and I gave the client an original quote of 125 dollars per chair to build up the seat and upholster the inside back. The client had purchased foam rubber and other additional supplies from another source. We work with clients on a COM basis. COM means customers own material. When we work on a COM basis we charge a fee because the fabric or materials were not purchased from us directly. The client said she was not in love with the set and wanted to sell the set on Craig's list. I always work with my clients so that they get the best quality of workmanship and supplies. I decided to discount the total job by 40 dollars per chair. This brought the total to 85.00 ea. The fabric that was left by the client was two different dye lots. We notified the client of this so she could correct the problem. Instead of going to another fabric store and buying additional buying additional fabric. I found a great in stock fabric that would retail for 30 dollars per yard. Knowing the client was on a very tight budget I decided to sell to sell the fabric for 10 dollars per yard. For an extra 30 dollars we were going to supply all of the fabric for the dining set. So from an original job that should have cost 750 dollars we are now down to 392.00 total. When this was not acceptable I decided to return her deposit at that very moment. I am disappointed that my upholstery technician spent the better part of a day getting this job ready for upholstery. Sometimes personalities and communication is tough in small business. This for me is a prime example.

When I first contacted Hughey Hartman I sent photos of my chairs and asked for a ballpark figure to recover them and was told 125/chair which was great since they originally cost me 250/chair. I took the chairs myself to Hughey Hartman on a Monday and unloaded them by myself even though there were two large men that could have helped but made no effort to do so. First red flag...secondly I was told it would be 269/chair...second red flag. I was always told Hughey Hartman was the best so I figured new ones would cost me 250/chair plus shipping so I gave the ok. I loved the colors I chose and it appeared to be a job well done when I first saw them. Upon closer inspections at the store I noticed black hand prints all over the the new vinyl which I pointed out to the young lady. She took a rag and cleaned one smudge off and told me not to use Goo Be Gone on the vinyl. The young lady and I then loaded the cars into my car even though once again two able bodied men were standing there. When I got the chairs home I noticed the tacks on the backside of the chairs were not properly seated and in fact some were bent and the legs had some kind of sticky tacky adhesive on them. So after spending $569.00 on two diner chairs I felt it was time to send an email to Hughey Hartman asking for advice on how to correct the tack problem and express my disappointment in the dirty covering and steel legs. I have sent two emails with no response as of yet. To be fair it has only been 36 hours so I am still hopeful. Update...a most unprofessional, unthoughtful email was sent to me stating....I guess you could bring them back here so we can correct it...this did not endear me to the company at all. I responded that I wasn't happy about this...I have heard nothing so I'm done. It can't be too hard to find someone to correct the bad tack job and I can clean them myself. Won't be returning. I suppose that if you have a huge business or are spending more than $569 they must tow the line according the other reviews, but for me...I just didn't feel the love. I do have a photo of the tack job which I will try to attach to my review. ******************************UPDATE AS OF JUNE 25th, 2013******************************** On June 17th our chairs were picked up by Mr. Hughey and taken back to his place of business to have all issues corrected. We received our chairs today and we are absolutely satistifed with the results. They are picture perfect and look like brand new chairs. We were absolutely stunned at the difference in work and would like to thank Hughey Hartman for correcting the issues.

Both the father an the son do excellent work. Every year they do a deep and thorough carpet cleaning, and, as needed they also clean my upholstery as well. They are very careful and convenient in their methods and I can't imagine using anyone.

It went well. They were punctual, and delivered chair aspromised. When we got it we found the recline feature reclined too far (almost tip over backwards). They responded promptly and quickly diagnosed someone had simply forgotten to reinstall the stop. The quickly took care of it. We are very pleased with results. Would recommend them to anyone.

This was a fantastic experience. Mr. Hughey is a personable, funny, and knowledgeable person. I chose fabric that was in stock, we search for it together and picked out coordinating piping material. The estimate was good, and the work was performed in less than a week. I am very happy with this company!

Difficult job. They did it without marring the wicker and finish. Had to remove old cushion and many, many nails. Rebuilt part of seat. Worked with compromised fabric situation. Had some creative suggestions. Reasonable price

Helped us to pick coordinating fabrics for the chairs. Paid attention to details - did a beautiful job on the welt of the wing back chairs. Saved us $300 by re-fluffing rather than re-stuffing chair cushions.

MR. HUGHEY BUILT AND INSTALLED OUR RESTAURANT-STYLE DINING BOOTH 8 YEARS AGO. HEAVY USE HAD BEEN HARD ON THE SEAT PORTION. THOUGH HE DIDN'T HAVE AN EXACT MATCH FOR THE OLD MATERIAL, HE FOUND A VERY CLOSE COLOR AND STYLE, SO WE DIDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE SEAT BACKS AND SIDES TOO. HE'S FAIR, HONEST, AND KEEPS HIS WORD, AND HE DID THE WORK IN A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF TIME SO THAT WE WERE WITHOUT THIS ESSENTIAL PIECE OF FURNITURE FOR ONLY A FEW DAYS.

JOB WAS OKAY, BUT HIKED THE PRICE AND TEMPORARY RECEPTIONIST WAS TESTY AND BRUSQUE. PRICE OF $85 WAS QUOTED, BUT WE WERE CHARGED $125 WITH NO EXPLANATION. THEY TOOK ALL THE FURNITURE ON MONDAY AND HAD IT BACK ON FRIDAY. I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY BEFORE ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM AND HIRE THEM AGAIN. ANOTHER UPHOLSTERER AND DECORATOR TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPLACE THE SPRINGS WITHOUT PUTTING ON NEW FABRIC. THE FABRIC WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION HE SAID HE COULD DO IT. HE USED A VERY HONEST APPROACH. THEY WERE VERY CAREFUL CARRYING THE PIECES OUT, THEY DID NOT SCRATCH ANYTHING.
