Howald Heating Air Conditioning and Plumbing

We have purchased a 3-year maintenance contract for our furnace and air conditioner. We used this company for years before they temporarily closed their business. When we learned that their company was back in business, we again established our business with them. We have always been pleased with their service and their providers.

The Operation Manager called to follow-up on the service visit. After discussing the visit, he said he wanted to send out another technician to get a second opinion, at no additional cost to me. The second technician found another possible cause of the problem. Corrected that cause and said to see if the problem recurs. It has not, saving me the cost of an expensive repair. I'm very grateful for the Operations manager for offering the second opinion and the techs for their help during this very cold spell.

I have used his service for thirty five years. They have always been punctual, efficient, dependable, and I just have been pleased with them. They will make recommendations on things that they might see coming up, they are not pushy and they don't overcharge. I've had friends who have been told by other companies that they need a new furnace, when they really did not. My furnace is older than it was ever supposed to be and its still working. Larry's motto is if it's not broke don't fix it. He doesn't tell me that I need a new furnace because its old, only if its unsafe. He's been very honest and doesn't try to overcharge me just because it's something I don't know much about. I've actually called him at home and he's called me back. I've had this incident many years ago where I left a note at the office door and I hardly got to work when he called me about it so he is very responsive.

It went well. He did a fine job. Everything is working good.

It went great. Woke this morning, furnace was out and the house was already at 54 degrees. Called service provider about 8 am, they had someone to the house by 2 pm. Quickly assessed situation, service tech diagnosed bad blower motor on furnace, replaced same day. Service tech was professional and personable.

When I called to make an appointment, they old me there is an $89 service trip charge. After calling around to a few other companies, I found one that offered a free service charge. I called Howald back to cancel and Haley in the office offered to match the free service charge as she wanted to earn my business. They were the only company that actually gave me a time of arrival as well.

We had contacted a different plumber but he called the week before Christmas because they were very busy with frozen pipes. He said he might be able to come on Monday 12/23. We didn't hear from him that day or afterward, so the evening of New Year's Day I left a message for Howald. They called early on the second and said someone would come that afternoon. After that it all went very smoothly. He came when they said he would and he knew what the problem was and was prepared to deal with it. It didn't take long and it looks like a simple procedure for someone who has the tools and knows what he is doing. This man did know what he was doing and we were really glad to finally have that repair completed

very prompt and professional.

Snow, bad roads and they showed up right on time. Careful to cover floors and shoes to not track in snow. Dog-friendly. Great job - professional, friendly, reliable. They have coupons on their website

As I write this, we are experiencing the Polar Vortex with minus 15 degree weather. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate having a safe and effective heating system in place. We had been without regular service visits for over a year, and when we committed to a company for regular service, we checked Angie's List for outstanding provider. We went with Larry Howald. The initial visit was with service technician Larry and he was professional, through and understandable. Our heating unit was old and had some repair in past, but was time for replacement. He called Larry Howald, who came within 2 hours to talk with us about new system (this was at 5pm the evening before Thanksgiving). It took us a couple weeks to make a decision, then had new system installed. Allen and Tommy were prompt and conscientious, completing the work in the expected time frame. They inspected lines for CO, sealed existing leaks, and put in place a beautiful system. Not having expertise on heating systems, we spent some time researching the best unit. The answer seemed to be 'which ever one is properly installed'. Time will tell for sure, but as I sit here in my comfortable house looking outside at the igloo central Indiana is, I am feeling pretty confident we made the right choice.

They did an excellent job and now our house is nice and warm. I will continue to use them and will definitely recommend them to others.

The installation went fine - they were polite and hardworking and cleaned up well. They completed the work in one day. The next day (Saturday) the a/c unit didn't seem to be cooling and they came right over and made some adjustments. I have had no problem since. The only glitch was getting the IPL rebate processed (their responsibility). It took a while but was ultimately resolved to my satisfaction. That was why I didn't complete this review sooner. The heating side works fine too.

Still under warranty, so the cost was for the diagnostic trip and the labor for installing the replacement. It went out on a Sunday, and they were there within a couple hours. The part had to be ordered and wasn't available until end of following day. Installation was the day after that.

Fine, It's fairly standard. If you prepay the service you will get two somewhat discounted check=ups. One in the Summer for the A/C and the other in the Fall for the furnace. We stayed with Howald when there was some kind of split with Broad Ripple Heating and Cooling. The owner, Larry, is local and we try to stay local when making purchases. The only cost we have during these checkups is a replacement filter, unless there is something wrong with our system. The filters are extremely expensive and from now on I will go online to find mine. The guys that come out are always nice and professional. They usually have something that they suggest I could buy or do ... in our case we will be needed a new A/C system, and most recently they suggested I changed out the pipe that is hooked to our dryer vent (supposed fire hazard). Although they do suggest is, they are not overbearing. Although I would like to continue to use Howald, I am going to look around for a less expensive solution as I do think they are a little high.

The office called to let me know the technician was on the way. He arrived as scheduled and performed the service. The technician was personable and professional, giving me tips on properly setting my humidistat for the winter.

We had a service agreement which expired that day, though he did not have a record of it with him. He renewed the agreement, cleaned the furnace, replaced the filter, didn't charge for a service call and sold us another year of a service agreement.

On time, excellent work, easy to work with, efficient, locally owned. Explained what he was doing and stated it was in good shape.

Office called to let me know the plumber was on the way. Plumber arrived, was told work needed and performed work in a professional manner. Workers were personable and pleasant.

Great. It is a holiday weekend and this provider was the first of 6 possible contractors to respond to my call. Michael arrived within a few hours, which was at least 3 hours earlier than anyone else would have been able to come. He was neat, clean, informative, professional, and friendly. The price was a little higher than what I initially expected, but given the quick responsiveness on a holiday weekend, along with the severity of the clog, the price still seems very fair. I currently own 3 rental properties and will be using Howald the next time any issues arise. Thanks!

They were very polite and gave me good information about my air conditioner. I was given two options, fix or buy new. They referred me to one of their sales people, but I have put repairs on hold. I would and will definitely use them again.

Would highly recommend. Not sure about pricing, but the service was great.

Mike was absolutely great to work with. When I discovered a leak late Friday night and couldn't tell where it was coming from, I contact Howald's on-call plumber. Mike called and we determined that it wasn't really practical to come out that evening, because if he needed parts, nothing was open. So we scheduled a time for the next morning. He found the leak pretty quickly (of course the pipe was cracked between the sink cabinet and floor) and fixed it quickly. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain things and answer all my questions.

Serviceman arrived at the designated time and performed the cleaning and inspection of my furnace in a timely manner. I have always been very pleased with their service.

They did a very good job. The service man was courteous and extremely helpful. They even had to climb up on a ladder outside to turn the water on and off. I have had no trouble with the air conditioner or furnace so far.

The service man who visited our home was very open and honest. Pointed out some important issues we should consider. We couldn't purchase a new furnace at that time but we are still considering them over others.
