Howard came out quickly to assess the problem w/ my tenants furnace and advised of significant cracks in the system... as the system was nearly 20 years old, i wasn't surprised. They replaced my Heating unit for my rental and only sold what was needed. They didn't try to get me to upgrade to a 90% or better unit -as it would have cost significantly more - and quoted me an extremely reasonable "all installed" price for an 80% unit (which is what I had in there). What was even more important was the extent they went through with me to understand what the problems were and my options... i could have repaired the unit but they were forthright in saying it may not be worth it compared to a new unit - likely w/in $500 dollars of a brand new unit w/ 10 year warranty. They also worked well with my tenant to meet them when they were there and installed the new unit much quicker than i had expected (which was handy as cold weather was predicted the next day).

The folks at Howald were fantastic. The exhaust fan motor went out on a cold morning. They were able to get a tech, salesman, and installers to my house and the new unit installed over the course of 11AM - 6PM. The salesman was up front with us and wasn't trying to upsale. He shot us straight on what we were buying and our different options. The installers were great as well. Everyone kept saying that Howald's is a family business and they care about customer service and their reputation and it shows.

The company installed toilets that we purchased beforehand. The toilet installation and additional plumbing repairs were accomplished in a few hours, with minimal disruption. The quality of the work was outstanding and everything was totally cleaned up before they left. The specific toilet brand (Toto) recommended by Howald was available with free delivery from Amazon, and has lived up to their recommendation. We use Howald for all of our plumbing and heating/air conditioning needs, and couldn't be happier.

Harry gave an extensive inspection. He explained what I was hearing were pipes expanding. I had been thinking I had a leak for four years! Top notch service.

Tony was professional, friendly, and knowledgable. He told us exactly what he was doing and explained what we needed to do to keep the humidifier working properly. I wiah more service techs would take the time to explain the product.

Tim Farmer met with me to discuss furnace options, evaluated my existing furnace, answered all my questions. I decided to work with Howald and was able to easily book an installation date. Jason did the work efficiently, professionally, explained the functions, great clean-up. Lawrence reviewed the thermostat function and we set parameters. Everyone was very professional, personable and a pleasure to work with. Tim answered F/U questions and sent completed rebated paperwork. Everyone made this process very easy.

First time calling Howald (on a neighbor's suggestion) and was pleasantly surprised. Very professional. Called in the morning and had the problem fixed that afternoon. The plumber (Steve) was so good and efficient it blew my mind. Our home is 83 years old, so an old original drain pipe that had been slow for many years was replaced and giving the bathroom sink a whole new life. The house is smiling again. Thank you Howald!

I had an annual service contract with Howald for 2014-15 and used them for furnace & A/C tuning, as well as a plumbing job to replace a water line to our humidifier. - Plumbing tech was knowledgable, friendly and professional. However, he was very adamant about up-selling additional services like replacement of our water softener (versus replacing the medium in the exchange tank). - Furnace tech was also professional and noted potential issues with the furnace that, while not threatening immediate operation, could be paid attention to. - A/C tech was the least knowledgable and technically capable. He confirmed that the system had lost refrigerant and would need to be refilled, but did not attempt to diagnose the reason. He assumed that there was a leak in the evaporator coil which would be "impossible to repair" and would require a new HVAC system. A fill of refrigerant would also cost ~$125 per pound, but would just leak out since he hadn't fixed the leak. A 2nd opinion visit from our whole-home warranty provider confirmed that the leak was actually present at the outside unit and should have been clearly visible to any knowledgable tech due to oil residue on the leaky connection. The warranty tech fixed the leak refilled the system at $30 per pound, almost $100 less per pound that Howald. We discontinued our annual service contract with Howald after the A/C service call. The techs are very friendly, but at the end of the day they felt more like salesman and less like technicians.

We had this company come out to give an estimate for moving an exhaust pipe in our kitchen ceiling. They are very prompt and professional. After doing some research, my husband decided to attempt to move the pipe himself... if it doesn't go as planned, we will definitely be calling them again!! Thank you.

Our furnace and air conditioner were 18 years old. We had to replace a number of parts on the last several bi-annual inspections. We decided to get new equipment. Received bids from several contractors and decided on Howald, mostly on price.We read lots of Angies List reviews on all of the contractors. They were all "A" rated. When I called Howald with our decision, the installers came the next day. They arrived at 8:00am and were through and gone by about 2:30pm. They did a good job, took away all of the old equipment and left the area clean. We were satisfied with the job.

They respond immediately and do a good job. The main plumber and his crew members are all very nice.

He came out and gave me several different options, he wasn't pushy at all. He let me pick me what I wanted. He was very personable. I trusted him and he did a great job.

We discovered our A/C unit had finally quit after 26 years on Monday morning. We called Howald and they were able to send someone that same day to meet with us. They helped us pick a new A/C unit and furnace that met our needs and fit in our budget. The installers were there the next morning, right on time, to begin the installation. They finished on time and everything was neat and clean when they finished. They made sure we knew what we needed to know about the operation and care of our new units. They also took care of the rebates for us for both the gas company and electric company. I highly recommend this company!

The plumber, Steve, was here right on time. I took him through my list of items. He was professional, pleasant, good worker. Steve completed everything quickly, and gave me an estimate for running a gas line to my kitchen for a new gas stove. He also addressed several other questions I had ["instant" hot water devices, questions about my water heater, and some other. Howald will be running the gas line for me for the new stove.

The HVAC technician, John, arrived right on time. He serviced both my AC and heating systems which was nice to get done all at once. He was professional, knowledgable, and polite. He got the work done quickly. Also, John went over some questions I had about installing a Mitsubishi ductless mini-split system in the upstairs of my late 1920's brick bungalow. There had been a conversion of attic to living space sometime long ago. This space includes a bedroom, bathroom and small landing area. None of the updates we've made to date [adding insulation, new HVAC, Panasonic whole house fan, new Anderson Architect series windows, new gable vents, etc] have made the space really livable in winter or summer months. John called a Howald HVAC specialist to come out and analyze the space, and advise me of options. Everything was done with efficiency as well as with respect to my specific intentions with the home.

I tried to fix leak. Wound up making it much worse. Had to shut the water off in the whole house. I called them at 9:00 PM and had a plumber on site at 8:30 the next morning.

I had initially hired another company to do this repair, but decided to go with Hovald because pricing was better and seemed more honest than the other larger company. Hovald did not try to sell more than I needed. Technician came to inspect, assessed the problem correctly, and made the repair the next business day since part was not on hand in truck. Repair was done efficiently and system back in operation quickly. No complaints at all. Plus a 10% Angie's member discount was a nice bonus.

The young man who came was polite, knowledgeable and a real joy to have in the home. He cleaned up after himself and described pros and cons of replacement. He was professional and I would have him back again in a heartbeat.

I was very pleased with the service. Initially we called because there was a dripping sound coming from our AC. In an initial service call, the repair guy thought the issue was a line that was not insulated properly, which in his defense was causing some water damage, but it wasn't ultimately the primary issue. We called them back out a few days later and they came free of charge to investigate further. Bud, the second service man, was according to my wife "the nicest repair guy we have ever had in our house." He found some significant rust issues, not surprising since the unit was 20+ years old, and suggested we probably should look into a new unit. My conversation with Tim, the sales rep, was probably the most helpful I've ever had with a home services sales rep. He not only didn't try to up-sell us, he dissuaded me from a couple of things that could have bumped the total up. Lawrence on the install team was nice as well, and even caught a frog that had made a home under the old unit and let my kids check it out before he let it go in a nice spot in the yard. Best of all, everything works as promised. The house is cool, nothing is dripping and I feel very comfortable that when the time comes to do the furnace Howald will give us good service and a fair price.

Howald's have been providing our HVAC service for years. Our A/C unit stopped on Thursday and by Saturday they had us cool again. The work was done professionally.

It was so smooth. Josh & Scott B were always beat & tidy. They always kept us informed about what they were doing. Weather kept them from completing on time but it was not hot enough to heed the new unit! The work was completed on a Monday. Friday at the end of same week, there was water under the unit inside. Tech Larry arrived quickly and could not determine the source of water. He returned on Sunday when it was hotter and he Checked the freon. All wears good. We ran system all day and no water. We still don't know where it came from. It could be condensation, but we have not needed the unit much since it was installed. Still very happy. Know that if water returns they will come right away!

Bud came to repair the furnace flue that was no longer attached to the chimney in the basement. It had rusted. He couldn't fix it because it wasn't to code (the result of a slipshod job done to sell the house). He gave me several options, including a new furnace, which was appropriate in this situation. I had to pay the service call even though he didn't do anything except educate me. He was very friendly and helpful.

These guys are quite reasonable and have been regularly checking our units for a couple of years. They do a really great job, never try to sell you more stuff, and are very thorough. Highly recommend!

From the moment we purchased our then five-year old home 2-1/2 years ago, the HVAC system gave us nothing but trouble. One thing lead to another, and finally we consulted with two reputable companies about replacing the entire system (including the duct work) with a new energy efficient Carrier Infinity gas furnace, heat pump, and zone system. We elected to replace the existing flexible ductwork with the metal ductwork. Although not surprised, both companies confirmed the existing system wasn?t operating correctly. In addition, both indicated the flexible duct work should be re-done, as the runs were entirely too long and had too many bends, which was contributing to the lack of heat and air conditioning. The pricing and recommended solution for our home offered by both companies was very competitive. After much consideration, we selected Howald Heating and Air Conditioning. When we telephoned initially to ask about having someone come out and take a look at what was going on, Larry Howald responded. Admittedly, we were a little surprised that the president of the company would be coming to our home. Larry spent over an hour with us on his initial visit and examined everything, including the duct work in the crawl space. He worked up the quote for us, and then met with us again to go over everything to make certain all of our questions were answered. Any questions that came up after he provided the quote were answered promptly. It was his work ethic, and extraordinary customer service that resulted in our selecting his firm. Jason and Lawrence arrived on time the first day the guys were scheduled to commence work, and did an outstanding job. They explained everything they would be doing, and worked so efficiently and quietly. Their calm demeanor was extremely comforting. You really don?t want the ?bull in the china shop? tearing out your existing furnace, duct work, etc. All of the guys who arrived on subsequent days were the same way. I was so comforted by the way the guys truly respected our home, words cannot express what that meant to my husband and I. It was truly a pleasant experience, and we enjoyed having the guys in our home. The project took a little longer than anticipated, yet the guys didn?t rush. They took their time and made certain everything was done to our satisfaction. We really appreciated that, and told them that if things take a little longer it?s okay. Larry and his crew are committed to doing quality work, and that?s exactly what my husband and I wanted. There were a few tweaks needed after the new system was installed, and each time there was never any hesitation in getting someone out to the house to check things out. Initially we selected an Aprilaire humidifier; however, once it arrived I had some concerns about the actual amount of humidity it would create in that it would be way too much. Larry and my husband spent time doing additional research and comparing notes. Together they came up with a plan. Larry even went so far as to have the Aprilaire regional sales representative visit our home to assess the feasibility of installing the unit we had selected. When it was determined that the unit we had selected didn?t pose any problems, and the proposed manner in which the unit was going to be installed was okay, Larry had the guys install the humidifier. It?s been just over one year now since we had the new system installed and we couldn?t happier. Throughout the course of the past year we have seen firsthand the company?s level of commitment to customer service. The corporate culture emanates from the top, and is evident in each person we?ve either spoken with on the telephone, or have had the pleasure of seeing in person. Companies like Howald Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing are getting harder and harder to find, yet when you do it?s so refreshing.
