Moving Companies, Hauling, Piano Movers,

About us

It has been said that the three most stressful things in life are dealing with a divorce, a death, or a move. We believe it is our job to take each customers situation and tailor our service based on what they need at that time. We have grown because of our willingness to please the customer is not limited to our office hours, or the amount of money the customer has to spend. It is not at all uncommon for us to hold a check for a customer, or start a move at a time that is convenient for the customer, but at a time that will have us working untill midnight; at no extra cost to the customer. Now that we have dozens of employees and do hundreds of moves a year, most of which are routine, it has become my job to handle the details that truly make us a service company. Complete nightmare dealing with this company from beginning to end. We hired them for a move in late March to a temporary storage facility until our home was ready and a second move (they convinced us to use them a 2nd time) to our new house. Paid for 3 movers, 2 inexperienced movers and 1 disgruntled supervisor arrived over an hour late. The damage that occurred during our 1st move was significant, the inexperienced movers took chunks of drywall out of our basement walls, scratched our hardwood floors and stairwell. The poor storage and lack of protection to any of our furniture in our storage unit was a disaster. The manager of the Indianapolis facility was rude, unresponsive and completely unprofessional over the almost 3 months we've spent going back and forth with him to get the storage unit repacked (which was promised, but never happened), scheduling repairs they were responsible for in the home we were selling to the walls, floors, stairwell. The manager blamed the first crew for all of the issues confessing they were all new to the company and the sales rep who provided the initial move quote was fired. The second move 3 months later from the storage unit to our new home began horribly, as well. The manager had promised to be at our move to "personally" supervise and oversee the move. He was not there the crew had no idea what we were talking about and they claimed the only notes they had about this move was to "be careful" with our things since our first move resulted in damages. After final move was completed the manager "set-up" furniture repair people (both our leather sectional and wood furniture were damaged from the move into the storage unit). This took another month to coordinate the repairs (as they were not being paid by Here to There in order to come out to our home and finish repairs). Overall, the manager of the Indianapolis office ended up threatening our family, stating he's done enough for us, cursing, and refusing to return one of our dining room chairs that his repair person took with him to refinish due to the severity of damage.
Description of Work: Damaged bedroom, dining room furniture, took chunks of drywall out of walls and made deep chunks of hardwood out of the floor. Unprofessional workers, zero follow-up or sense of customer service.

We, as promised, scheduled at [removed member name] convenience and went out to repack the storage unit, [removed member name] REFUSED the help to repack the storage unit. Repairs do take some time and those repairs were addressed. We fixed the floor, couch and scratches on your furniture. The dining room chair has water damage, not moving damage, it is in our office and you are welcome to pick it up or we can schedule another appointment and leave it on a porch if you are not available. Taylor's call. We have been cussed out. Also this was taken, by the customer, to a personal level by THREATENING our operations manager, his wife and kids. Enough. We are sorry for the damage and your frustration.

They were asking about tips from the time the move started which was an hour after the agreed to start time. They were not careful with any of the furniture. All items had been moved down to the first floor to help with the loading of the truck but they still marked up the walls and a door. They removed the door to the garage without asking and did not reattach the door well. Then the company policy is to reserve the move with the credit card and a $6 charge is added. The quote call stated I must present my card to the driver and he/she would run the card for payment at the time of service. There were so many extra fees not mentioned that I pad an extra $50 for items I am still not fully sure of. After giving my card to the driver and signing for the move the driver asked for tip. Two days after the move I received a noticed from my bank the movers charged the card my deposit was on not the card I handed the driver. When I called to ask what happened I was transfer multiple to times ending with a gentleman named John telling me he was the general manager of the Indy office. He was rude, unprofessional, and inappropriate in his comments, questions, and lack of willingness to resolve the situation. He told me that the card issue was my fault and that I should have a better handle on my finances. This was completely out of line and not the comments a General Manager of a satellite office should have with a customer issue. I would never use these movers and tell everyone who needs to move to not use them.
Description of Work: Movers showed up at 9:15 for an 8am move. They took off the door to the house without asking. They dented three walls with the furniture. They left behind trash in the place moving from.

Thank you for the feedback. I noticed that [member name removed] completed the Angie's list complaint and [member name removed] booked the move with our company. That may be why there was a question about the additional fees mentioned at time of booking this job. The credit card you shared to pay for the move was declined after several attempts by our accounting department. Attempts were made to contact you prior to charging your card on file. You are welcome to file a claim about any damage that occurred during your move, as of today you have not filed a claim. We will be glad to address that claim once you have submitted it to our company. You can find our claim form by going to our home page. [hyperlink removed] Look for the words claim form below the picture of the truck. Also I have pulled the booking phone call. Our experienced customer service person read the disclaimer at the end of the booking call which did include the fees you were charged for on moving day. She asked at the beginning of the call if you had questions or are you ready to book? and you stated book. We do our best to inform our customers fully and she informed you of all costs at that time. We are sorry for your frustration and hope you are enjoying our new home. Thank you

THEY NEVER SHOWED UP FOR THE APPOINTMENT and I was hung up on by the owner. Professional = NOT
Description of Work: Made the appointment and told me over the phone that everything was set for a 12pm move that would cost $350.00. The rep made it very clear that if anything changed with my plans and I didn't notify them I would be charged the full $350.00. At 10:34am the morning of the move I received a call from the company and was told that they couldn't find enough people to do the move. I requested to speak with the owner and he did call me back but was anything but professional.

The movers have a lot of hidden fee they do not tell you up front about. The move was fine expect they broke an item of mine and would not compensate me for it. They dropped if off the truck. I tried to call and no one would answer. I received an email saying good luck because the item wasn't made well. They finally offered $12 for the item and said that was the best they could do.

There were here at the appointed time, all our furniture was moved with no issue.
Description of Work: Our company needed to move some heavy furniture around in our two story office. We had a safe, a conference room table w glass cover and several credenzas. We only needed someone for an hour and they fit us into the schedule in a timely fashion. The two movers were friendly, professional, and moved our furniture with no issue.

Our move was scheduled on May 22, 2014 at 8AM. · Our two movers left behind empty bottles of water/Gatorade at our apartment we were moving out of. · They broke a leg off our ottoman and took another leg so that they could match it and replace it. · They broke the bottom of a lamp base. · We used a Groupon for the move. The night before when they called to confirm he told me to have it printed off. I informed him that I did not have it printed off and subsequently our printer was packed. He informed me that if I had the Confirmation number and app that it would be OK and they would accept it. · After they were done moving, they left several items of ours on the truck and we had to point it out to them and get them to give it to us. · When it came time to pay, I was told by one of the movers (Adele) that they couldn’t accept the confirmation number but that I had to email someone a copy of my purchase confirmation email. I proceeded to do this. · Approximately 2 minutes later, I was told that wouldn’t work either and that they needed the confirmation code (which is on the email I sent and we had already tried to give them). Adele handed me his phone to speak to Donna. o Donna told me that she would not accept my confirmation number and groupon number and that we would ened to pay the full amount and they would mail us a check back. I told her I wouldn’t do that because I was told that this was fine and they need to honor what I had already paid. Donna then told me “You’re being unreasonable” and that “you don’t go to grocery stores without printing off coupons and this is the same thing.” All of this was said in an extremely inappropriate way. Donna then told me that if I wasn’t willing to pay they would load our things back up and take them away. Once Donna began her small rampage, I handed the phone back to Adele because she was becoming difficult to have a conversation with and to find a way to work this out. o The movers then did the right thing by following my husband to a FedEx Office where he could then pay to get online and print off the Groupon. All of which wastes company money and ours (it cost us $5 to do that, not including the gas). · After the extremely rude service from Donna, I reached out to Cindy to discuss the situation and to tell her I wanted compensation for the way we were spoken to and for the travel to and from FedEx Office and the overall hassle. Cindy said she would try to pull the phone call but ultimately couldn’t because it was an outgoing call, not an incoming call. Cindy and I spoke on the phone on one occasion to discuss the issue. She said she had no way of providing me any monetary payment because of what happened and that I could speak to a manager about it when they came to access the damage. · Mike (was never told his last name) was scheduled to come to our home to access our damage on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 5:30PM. o Mike showed up with his fly down. o Mike listened to my story of Donna but told me that it wasn’t their fault and that I was “overreacting.” My husband can verify this was said. o He accessed our damage and took another leg of our ottoman to match it and return to us. o He said he would give us $10 for the lamp that was broken and another $10 for the trouble with the Groupon and having to go to the FedEx Office and that we would receive that check within 5 business days. o He said he would replace the legs of our ottoman (Here to There Movers now has 3 of our broken legs out of the 4) and would return it to us within a week. · Over this past weekend, we noticed one of our plastic bins was broken (the lid was snapped in half and put inside a different bin in a different area of the house). I put in a claim for this and never got a response. · After receiving nothing in the mail nor a phone call, I reached out to Cindy via email on June 9, 2014 stating what Mike had promised. o Cindy responded that she reached out to Mike and he would get in contact with me. o After another 24 hours of not hearing anything, I emailed Cindy back. o Cindy never responded to the last email. · I then called the Indianapolis Here to There Movers on Monday, June 9th. I was on hold for 5 minutes before getting transferred to Cindy (a manager wasn’t available). Cindy said that nothing had been processed with accounting and that I would need to speak to Mike. She told me she would reach out to him and either call and/or email me to let me know when she was able to get in touch with Mike. o Cindy never called or emailed. · I then called Wednesday, June 11th around 5PM. No one answered the first time I called and I left a voicemail with the Customer Service department. I then called back. A woman told me she would see who she could “s***** up.” I was on hold for 23 minutes before the phone hung up. o I immediately called back and the same woman answered. She apologized and said that she thought the manager had answered. o She then put down the phone and put me on mute to go speak to the “head honcho,” and returned to tell me that she would be at 7:30AM the next day and I was to call then since she would be putting gin a request with accounting to get those checks sent out. o My husband called back on Thursday, June 12th at 9AM. He was told by the same woman that they were going to have a team meeting about our experience and that she would check with accounting and we should call back after 3PM. o My husband called back on Thursday, June 12th at 5PM. He was told she would check back with accounting and call my husband with an update. o She never called. · I called Here to There Movers (Indianapolis branch) then today, Friday, June 13th at 1PM. I told the woman on the phone (Anna) that I needed to speak with someone. She took my name and told me that I would need to speak to Cindy and Cindy wasn’t in today. I told Anna that Cindy hasn’t responded to me for the majority of the week and I needed to speak to someone now since we keep being told to call back. Anna then got a little attitude and told me that it was all she could do. I asked if there were any managers there and she said “no, just us normal girls here.” Anna then told me that the call had reached almost 6 minutes long and she didn’t want to waste any more time talking to me. I told Anna that I had wasted 23 minutes on hold so please don’t even bring that up. Anna then told me she could put me on hold again for that long if I like. I repeatedly just kept asking to speak to a manager-and that anyone would do. I just needed to know what was going on. · I emailed the above information to the CEO on June 13, 2014. I have yet to get a reply. I've also filed a complaint with BBB and the Attorney General's Office.

I was very pleased. Moving has so many gears that have to work together. This was the least stressful. I knew they were good because my friend had just moved a few months before and had said to use them. They had someone come out and quote, He was very professional , answered all my questions and offered some great tips. On moving day they were a man short, but still finished in the same amount of time (at a lower rate). It was heavy work, and they took a few breaks, but took that off my bill without me saying anything. They took beds apart, and reassembled them, hauled my crappy couches to the dumpster, and always had a great attitude.

Started decent, wrapped everything really well. I paid for 3 movers but only got 2. I've never had movers, clean up their truck in the middle of unloading my stuff so that I would be charged. Unloading took double the estimate. Move went $200 over budget with a groupon. $1000 for a 2 bedroom apt. Probably would not have been the case if the 3rd mover had not spent the entire time talking, flirting and arguing with the truck driver. He didn't have a dolly either. Not pleased. My 6th and last move with them. Was going to suggest to a coworker before this incident. Too bad.

Purchased a $99 for $199 Groupon deal. They called at the time of their appointment to let me know they were running late, they showed up approximately 45 minutes late. I had requested that they bring wardrobe boxes, they forgot them. Before they came, I packed everything I could into boxes, their responsibility was to load the truck with the boxes and wrap all of my furniture and then load it in the truck. Took a VERY long time to wrap my furniture, there was no urgency in the way they worked. Once everything was packed and it was time to leave for the new apartment, they forgot their clipboard at the old apartment and didn't realize it until we were en route to the new apartment. They asked me to go back to my apartment, get their clipboard and then meet them at the new apartment. The unloading process was fine, but again, there was absolutely no urgency in the way these folks worked and they spent 45 minutes to an hour just folding blankets. The job ended up taking approximately 4 hours to complete, I started helping out towards the end because they weren't getting it done fast enough. Overall, unprofessional, lacked attention to detail and no urgency. Would not recommend.

They quoted me a price, and they broke my furniture. They said they'd do something about it, but they didn't. They threw my books on the ground. At the end of the job they said I owed them more, and if I didn't pay, they wouldn't unload the stuff. Worst company I've ever seen. Not professional.

These goons caused more damage to my personal belongings through negligent packing and dangerous stacking of boxes in storage than the move itself cost. I told them during the initial consult that I had many pieces of framed art that would need wrapped, packed and carefully stored. When the crew shoed up (late), it was apparent that they did NOT have the appropriate materials for packing these items. I ended up renting a van and moving those things myself after the fact. Not only did they overpack boxes so that no normal human can lift them, they then stacked those boxes 5-high and to the ceiling in my storage unit...without labeling them on the sides so I'd know what was inside. I can only imagine what the contents of those boxes will look like once I open them after moving into my new place. Two damaged light fixtures have never been returned to me, and a third very expensive light fixture was damaged beyond repair when a stack of boxes that they piled up fell and crushed what was below. They tossed unwrapped (I THOUGHT I was paying them to wrap and pack things.) motorcycle parts on top of ceramic and glass items, deeply scratched custom parts and motorcycle gear...I could go on... Did I mention that they were over an hour late getting started to begin with, and showed up reeking of booze and smoke?!? I wouldn't hire these complete losers to move my worst enemy.

[member name removed], Although we believe that your load was secured in your storage unit, we schedule a manager and mover at your convenience, to help re-stack your boxes, in your storage, at your direction and at no cost. However you would not allow this when the men arrived. However, you continue to go in to the storage unit moving your boxes yourself. Now that some of you items are damaged you come back with a huge claim, evening submitting this issue on Angie's list. Since you are the person moving the items we can not be liable for the damage you are causing. It is also irrational to be contacting the family members of our employees because you believe we have caused damage when in fact you the one causing the damage, refusing our help to make things right for you. Unfortunately you have escalated the matter from a customer service problem to a personal problem. Please do not contact family members nor employees of Here To There Movers out side of the scope of the job at hand. If you continue on this path we may need to get a restraining order. We are sorry for the damage of your items but again we tried to assist at no additional cost to you. Cindy Customer Service Manager

***UPDATE This company has been a nightmare in following up on my lost sofa and white leather chair. I never dreamed that company could be so evasive and non-responsive. From the interim time from my move between two houses, I put some things into their storage unti and paid a monthly fee, which they were on top of getting their monthly payment! However, when they delivered the furniture, the two largest items were missing. The movers just shrugged their shoulders and proceeded to tell me all the pitfalls and problems with this company since they were both looking for new jobs. So, I try calling JR so many times I lost count. Gave up. Called the police. Filed a report. Called my insurance who began the claim process. JR and/or any representative will not return my calls or their calls. So I'm stuck!! Insurance won't pay out until they hear from this company. Angie's List can't escalate the issue because I filed a police report. This is unbelievable. But, I'm an auditor professionally and I will continue to report them to the BBB, hire an attorney if I have to, and report them to whoever else will listen until corrective action is completed and resolved. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW The company seemed okay at first, they were very interested and easy to work with on the phone. As for the move from my house to the apartment, things went very smooth...my sisters helped and they were not at all happy with the way things were jostled around, but overall, I felt that they did what needed to be done. When the two guys got towards the end of the job they mentioned that they do take gratuities. So I ran to the ATM and gave them $50. I wasn't sure how to handle it, again, my sisters were furious. In the end, I let it go and chalked it up to my own learning since I didn't know that movers expected tips. When I bought my new house a year later, and since I had a storage unit that I had been paying on the whole time with this same company, I called them to move my stuff from my apartment to my new home. Again, the same story, and I had my tip ready for the guys at the end of the job...and they worked hard amidst the snow! I was very pleased with these two for what they endured because of our harsh winter. So, I scheduled my move from the storage unit to my home last week (Apr 2014), a van was sitting in my driveway which I thought was odd since I had a sofa in storage...well, sure enough, no sofa. As well, when I eyed the rest of the items I noticed my white leather chair was missing as well (but the ottoman made it). Of course, the movers had no idea...so they called in and somebody told them to tell me to fill out a damage form...but the damage form had nothing to do with missing furniture...even so, I did as told. I have called the moving company for 3-4 days and still nothing. The owner is out of town, JR is in a meeting (every time), and every time they tell me they will get back with me. Now another person answered the phone and after telling me AGAIN all of the above, she asks if I had insurance for the storage unit. I honestly don't recall. I asked her if I don't have insurance does that mean that I will just have to live without my $4000+ sofa and my $2600 chair? She doesn't know. Meanwhile, the items they brought from the van reak of cigarette smoke!! I'm certain the two movers had to have chained smoked the whole way to my house...I have a fairly large home and it smells like a cigarette. Buyer beware

But when arriving to our current and recently built home, things changed. We had scratches on the hardwood floor, broken 25 year old roof off of a doll house, damaged door molding and damage to an expensensive office hutch. The company said they would take it back to the shop for repair and deliver it back to us. After no phone call, I called the company about the damaged hutch. They told me to fill out an online complaint, which I did. After no response again, I called. The representative couldn't find the complaint and told me to do it again. To make a long story short, I called around 4 times and filled out 3 online complaints with no response for a month. At this point I contacted the BBB and the Attorney General. Here to There Movers still hasn't contacted me in the 5 months to get this issues resolved. The BBB and Attorney General advised me to take legal action considering their lack of trying to resolve the issue. I would not use this company ever again. It may be the worst experience in my life.

The movers were kind and efficient. However, their truck broke down twice during the move. The company did not respond to their men for more than two hours. We did not pay for the wait time. But we're not given any sort of discount for the time we sat waiting for the truck to be repaired. Did I mention we had a 7 month old baby with us while we had to wait.
Description of Work: Movers were great. Company was terrible.

All movers make mistakes. Things get damaged and that is part if the moving process. The top of our all wood Thomasville coffee table had a 5-6 inch scratch on it. our television armoire was nicked and the headboard to a bed was scraped as well. It turns out the owner, Joshua Baxter, is also the furniture repair man. Now, Joshua came to our house at 4:00 one afternoon and spent an hour repairing the armoire and the headboard and started the coffee table. In fairness to Joshua, he did a nice job on the armoire. The coffee table has some inlay and is harder. It needed to be fixed by a professional. Joshua spent a bit of time working on it, and as soon as it became 5:00 he made noise about taking the table into his shop. To "fix it properly". He left it here promising to call with a time to pick it up. It was 40% fixed at that point. I said to him at that point, I would need a receipt for the table if he would be taking it out of the house. Joshua didn't like that. He threatened me with just paying "$.60 per pound and he'd be done." Joshua never called. Oh, and I should mention, Joshua never said anything about owning the company. My husband had to track down Joshua to get the table repaired. They picked up the table and claimed a week to 10 days. The receipt says "Took table to shop for repair". After 3 weeks, my husband has to track down the table, again. The delivery guy unwraps the table and there is an overspray of lacquer on a quarter of the table where the work was done. We told the gentlemen that this wasn't any better, and in fact worse. This man says I'll make sure Joshua calls you tonight. He's Ina meeting now but he will call you. This man gave us his name, Frank J. Lassen, and he's the Assistant Manager. We wait patiently, going about our business, for Joshua to call. I call Joshua. His voicemail says text me if you are able to do so. I text and say we need to discuss the table. He text back, " playing poker. Call tomorrow." We exchanged some words. I promised him this Angie's List review. No idle threats. He never phoned. My husband had to get ahold of him. For the 3rd time. He said" yeah, I folded back the blanket and sprayed the lacquer on that part of the table." The table isn't lacquered. It's worse than it was after the 40% fix. If you have any furniture that you like, be forewarned! This guy, Joshua Baxter, takes no pride in the quality of work he does.

The guys were wonderful. They called 30 minutes before they were suppose to come and told me they were on the way. They showed up and got right to work. It took them 2 hour exactly to move all of our items, which included a queen size bedroom set, washer and dryer, a refrigerator and a whole lot of boxes. My husband and I were on a budget and I am so happy with their services and prices.. When our new home is ready I will call them to move us in our new home! Thank you guys job well done!!

The guys who moved us did a great job. They arrived on time and started working right away. They were very effecient and had everything loaded in about 3 hours. When they arrived at the new house, the had everything unloaded in about 2.5 hours. They were very friendly and professional. I would hire them again.

They were running a few minutes late, but called us to let us know, and gave us a new estimated arrival time which they made. All in all they stared about one-half hour later than originally estimated. Nor really too bad at all. Three men arrived they all worked steadily and diligently. They shrink-wrapped every item and carefully loaded it. They arrived unloaded carefully exactly where we wanted, All for $50 under the estimate. One small wooden foot on the top part of a hutch we have in the dining room was broken. The company sent two managers out to review the damage. They asked very specific question about how the piece broke, then took the piece to their shop. Not only did they repair the piece their crew had broken. They repaired some other bumps scratches and breaks that had occurred in prior moves. When they brought the piece back to us, it was in better condition then when they originally moved us, and they did not charge us for the additional service to the hutch. These guys are fabulous. We would recommend them to anyone.

Two movers worked hard to get the move done quickly. We were helping an elderly person move to an assisted living facility. We had moved all of the furniture onto the driveway to speed up the process. The workers were great!

Everything went well. In fact, even better than I expected. The three movers showed up exactly on time. I gave them a tour of the house to explain what needed to be moved. They started working right away with wrapping the furniture and getting it out to the van. They asked, mid-morning, if they could take a five minute break. (of COURSE they could! I was just impressed that they asked permission!) They worked through the morning and had the truck loaded before lunch. After lunch, they delivered the truck to the new house and unloaded everything into the rooms that I had designated. They were quick, strong, polite, and very easy to work with. NOTE: Two of my work colleagues moved this past year (two different moves to two different houses) and they both recommended these guys to me. I am glad I used them. I would call them again if I need anything else moved. :-)

The movers arrived about 1.5 hours early. Luckily, i was up, but I just needed a little more time to get things together. However, I'm glad they were early rather than late. It wasn't their fault I wasn't as ready as I needed to be. Nonetheless, the three men came in, worked with me, asked questions and figured out how to take apart my wall unit bedroom suite. Even when I forgot to tell them the stove and refrigerator were coming with me, they didn't get flustered. The guys had a lighthearted manner, joking around a little, but not too much. They kept an appropriate level of professionalism. I was amazed at how well they packed the storage units. It didn't look like everything would fit, but they made it work.
