I knew that I had a broken hard drive. I had already purchased a new one that I am comfortable installing my own. My main problem was that I couldn't get the screw of the old hard drive out and I had almost managed to strip it. I brought my computer in during my lunch break. I walked in, told him the issue and he got the screw out in 1 minute. He didn't try to convince me to let them do the rest of the work or anything. He didn't charge for the his time at all. It was a very positive experience. If I have other issues, I will absolutely return.

Water was accidentally knocked over and spilled on my Mac. I took the computer to them in person. I was obviously upset and worried. I'm sure there was a huge frown on my face. Without explaining upfront that they only can save 20% or less of the MACs with water damage, they wanted me to leave it in the shop and pay to have them work on it for a week and let it dry out. Their rate is $70 per hour. During the evaluation of the PC, he was talking about trivial things with a female employee who kept interrupting and he took a call while he was talking to me. I think it is extremely rude to take calls in the middle of talking to someone. The guy's and quot;bedsideand quot; manner showed no empathy for my situation. Nor did he advise of his own accord, that the chances for my MAC were slim and I was going to have to pay them to and quot;TRYand quot; to fix it and then spend money on top of that to get a new MAC. I won't be using this service again and I don't recommend them unless you are interested in doing business with companies that seem to only keep an eye on their billable hours @ $70 per hour. I decided to leave the store with my MAC and save myself the hassle and ordered another one which will be here in two days. By the way, the refurbished MACs from the Apple store are a good deal. They have are more thoroughly checked out than new ones and carry a regular warranty. My new MACBook Pro was $929. I'm glad I didn't end up spending another $200 or $300 on top of that at a repair shop for nothing.

If you read no further than this first line, I simply ask that you review ALL of Help My Mac's other reviews. They are accurate and honest. Most disconcerting in this review are the inaccuracies. Since you are an employee of Angie's List, you, of all people, should understand the importance of accuracy. As I did explain, I charge $60 for a diagnostic, provide an estimate, and should you chose to have work performed, the diagnostic fee is waved. That means FREE. Why you are claiming that I was going to charge you $200 to $300 for nothing confuses me. NO actual costs were ever offered. I stated several times during our short conversation (NOT an evaluation since you didn't leave it for a proper diagnostic) that liquid spills to a computer will often mean a complete loss, and the cost to repair can exceed their value. As a one-man-shop, I have no choice but to answer the phone or I would go out of business. The "female employee" was a outside bookkeeper who happened to be finishing her work and needed to leave, hence the interruption, for which she apologized. I am disappointed that I can be graded so harshly for a conversation. One that lasted less than 10 minutes. No service was performed and yet I am graded on price, quality, responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. Price: F? --Really? You were charged nothing. Quoted nothing. Quality: F? --Really? No work was done for you to judge. Responsiveness: --D? Really? I help you the moment you walked in the door. Punctuality: C? --Really? Again, I help you the moment you walked in the door. Professionalism: D? --I apologize that my calm demeanor, which most people appreciate in times of distress, was interpreted as a lack of professionalism and empathy. Finally, since you work for Angie's List, I would like to point out that I have serviced over a dozen Angie's List computers, as well as those of other Angie's list employees. All were quite satisfied.

Pretty well. Final delivery was delayed several times - likely due to circumstances out of his control. There was more damage to the unit (specifically the AirPort cable) than was apparent on the outside. It has functioned well since I got it back.
Description of Work: Repaired MacBook Pro hinge as well as replaced faulty AirPort card.

Excellent! True frustration is having equipment you cannot repair yourself. I was totally frustrated and he was calm. He's great!
Description of Work: My HP printer attached to my eMac was not responding. Mark ran some tests and realized the cable connecting the computer and the printer was bad. I asked him many questions about the computer and he answered them in a language I could understand. I was deeply grateful for the promptness of his service; he came before his store opened and I know that had to be hard. He knows what he is doing and I'm sure I'll have him back. I would highly recommend him.

Our laptop suddenly quit on us, so we took it in to Help My Mac. Mark ran several tests on it and discovered that our logic board had stopped working. That particular part is expensive, so we opted to purchase a new iMac. Mark was very helpful and suggested that we look into Apple's replacement program for iBook logic boards (which unfortunately had expired). He offered us options on transferring data from our still-good iBook hard drive. We appreciated that he didn't pressure us into making an expensive fix to our laptop.

Mark also repaired our laptop recently and both repairs were excellently done. Mark is an example of an ethical professional. The repair of one of the computers was hampered by a defective part from Apple, because this replacement part ended up being an unknown part of the problem, thus hampering diagnosis of the original problem. However, as noted above, Marker persevered and spent many hours until he pinned down the causes of our computer ills. He did not charge for these hours saying that it was covered under the warranty that he gives on replacement parts. I stated that it wasn't his fault that the replacement part Apple sent him was defective. His reply was that it wasn't our fault either. So even though the work cost him, he was more than fair in my mind. So we definitely would recommend his services, and want to nominate him for the Pages of Happiness.
Description of Work: Mark did troubleshooting and repair on a very difficult problem with my Mac. He was persistent in finding the problem, spent lots of time on it, and went way above and beyond the expected service. I was kept informed of his progress the whole time, and when he finished the problem was solved.

GAVE ME A DISCOUNT BECAUSE THEY KEPT MY COMPUTER FOR A LONG TIME, BUT THEY WERE UPFRONT AND COURTEOUS. I WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEM AGAIN.
