+ -1 moreKurt was a nice guy and very knowledgeable. He was able to find the hole and fix the problem. They came on time and he spent several hours working. I think the estimate was included in the trip and I thought the price was reasonable.
Description of Work: We had water coming in around the window, so they came out, found the hole, and flashed around the window, which took care of the problem.

+ -1 moreIt went fine over all, they came out and gave an estimate, there were two men who came out to do the jobs, they measured the measurements and they left and called back with the estimate an unusually sized door but they found the replacement for the door and installed it on the day they said they would and on the price range they said it would be on.

+ -1 moreI had a little problem with them. I had just enough trim for the doors. They put two inexperienced guys on the job who broke some of my trim, so I had to go buy more and I call them to come back and fix it. They reimbursed me for the extra trim I had to go buy.
Description of Work: They removed 13 interior doors with trim and put in new doors that I already had and installed two bifold doors. I bought all the hardware, but they put them in.

+ -1 moreThey came out and gave an estimate. It seemed to take a real long time to get the door in (it took a few months). But they got the work done very quickly. It was very cold that day and did a good job of getting it installed quickly. They made sure everything was done right and in place and told me where there was not insulation around the door. They cleaned up very well. They kept me informed on what was going on.
Description of Work: They ordered a new front door for us. They removed the old door and windows around it and installed the new door.

+ -1 moreBob Richards was the Sales Rep. who came out in April to measure for the doors and give an estimate to provide, remove and haul away the old doors and install the new ones. We discussed the conversion of two closets that had sliding doors to bi-fold doors. Both doors measured the same, 59 x 80 so would need to be special ordered. The other doors were standard size. Because the quote seemed high, I contacted several other Companies for estimates. After talking with several, I did choose Heartland. The order went in May 31st. To make a long story short, Bob did not measure correctly or ordered standard doors for one of the bi-fold closets. The incorrect doors were only 55 1/2". The error was not discovered until install on 7-17-07. Jeremy and Jim said they would frame it and make it fit. MY MISTAKE IN NOT MAKING THEM REORDER! We were expecting company, so let them do it. Now have paid for a special order door that we did not receive. Finally 8-6-07 they finished.
Description of Work: Install 10 interior doors and new handle sets - remove and haul away old doors. 2 of the doors were to be a special order to convert sliding doors with bi-fold doors. I was told it would be about 2-3 weeks to install depending on work load of installers. Jeremy, Jim and Brent (a trainee) were the installers...Jeremy and Jim on the first round, Jeremy by himself the 2nd time, Jeremy and Brent the 3rd time. Jeremy and Jim worked very hard to try and get all installation done in one day, but because of an error with some handles and a problem with incorrect measurement of one bi-fold set, said they would need to reschedule for a second day...ended up being 3 weeks later (the day before our company arrived). All of the installers were very nice, and helped with switching a couple of other doors and knobs/handles for us.

+ 0 moreI was very pleased with both the workmanship and completing the job to specifications. The sales representative was very nice and so were the two workmen who were very professional, speedy and thorough in their installation activities. They cleaned up afterwards and did not leave anything behind. The seals on the storm windows are so tight, I can feel no drafts although the interior wood window frames were probably installed well over 50 or more years ago and previously had a lot of drafts. It took awhile to order the custom-sized security door but I was especially pleased with the result and the sense of security it gave me since I had been living with a wood frame door that was barely hanging on by the hinges and the panes had fallen out.
Description of Work: Installed some custom sized storm windows and a custom sized security door and rebuilt framework to hold door.

+ 0 moreI looked over the work that was completed but was not warned or requested to inspect the door before leaving. After work, I noticed the scratches on the Plexiglas before installing the door at home. I called Heartwood about 5:20pm,10/29/07, I left a message saying that there were multiple scratches on the Plexiglas both outside & inside the screen, requesting new Plexiglas that was not scratched. I called on Wednesday & was able to speak with owner, Mr. McCord. He said that he would not replace the scratched Plexiglas with a new piece. Why I am alerting Angie s List: Heartwood charged me $81.34 for the work listed above, but the Plexiglas was scratched either before or after the installation while at the Heartwood store. Heartwood s refusal to replace the scratched Plexiglas with new Plexiglas. Heartwood s refusal to provide me with an itemized list of the materials. Heartwood s poor customer service & response to such problems owner does not return calls.
Description of Work: I asked Heartwood if they could repair a sliding screen patio door. The work to be completed was to: 1. Replace the worn screen with a new one. 2. Replace two worn rollers on the bottom of door. 3. Install a Plexiglas guard on the lower third of the door, that would protect screen from being damaged by pets when the pets were outside (the Plexiglas faced the outside.) Picked up the completed work/door at lunch hour, 12:30pm, 10/29/2007.

+ -1 morePeople were very nice and friendly in beginning when we called to tell them job was unacceptable. After having difficulty scheduling painter to come back, never heard from anyone until the bill for "balance due" came in the mail. Bottom line, very disappointed in the entire experience.
Description of Work: Called to replace/repair a wood front door in June or July. Sales rep came by, very nice, decided best thing to do was replace hardware on existing door and refinish it; also do a minor repair to another door to the deck. They hired a painter to do refinishing, was not a professional job. Can still see where the original hardware was on door and three or four spots are already peeling. Called them, they called painter, every time he wanted to come out did not work for us. My wife called Heartwood again, we never heard back from anyone. We assumed they blew us off...I had paid one half original quote of just over $1,000 and figured "so be it"...we would hire someone else to refinish the door. On Nov. 7, without notice, received a bill from them for "balance due". I called the office, asked for owner, not in, told them I wanted to talk to him, explained why, she told me she already knew why, got defensive, I got loud, she hung up. Also, repair to door to deck never been completed.

+ -1 moreScreen repair person came out promptly. We showed him 2 kitchen screens and sliding door screen. Said the kitchen screens were minor repair (one had a bent segment and one was hard to get in and out-said he would shave down one segment of that one) and would get to them probably next day. Would have to replace slider screen on site as couldn't get door out. Hadn't heard from him so called next week. Called twice in one day which I never do but really needed to be able to open a kitchen window. This apparently irritated phone answerer. Next day or so, early in AM screen man put in kitchen screens from outside (he could see us having breakfast so knew we were there) and left without a word. Rather peculiar, I thought. He replaced the screening in one so it would match a third. I will take it to a hardware store to tighten the very loose sloppy screening and reset the crossbar to match the screen next to it (a matter of measuring the halfway point!).
Description of Work: Straightened one bent segment of one screen frame. Replaced screening in one screen.

+ -1 moreThe office staff at Heartwood Enterprises (Carol in particular) was quite helpful in setting up our initial service visit, the appointment for repair and even a second repair appointment due to a cancellation caused by the weather; she was very pleasant to speak with and really helped us in resetting the canceled service call to a very good time for us. Adam McCord in Sales was also helpful in showing us options for a full patio door replacement, not pressuring us one bit as we considered the repair vs. replace options. Last, but certainly not least, I want to HIGHLY recommend anyone calling Heartwood for service, to ask for Kurt to be the wood artisan to work their job. Kurt was timely for both his visits, performed his repair mastery very efficiently (and with obvious attention to detail and precision) and cleared up the job site completely. We would not hesitate for an instant before calling Heartwood Enterprises to help us with another repair or replacement task.
Description of Work: Repaired wood trim and molding on a French-door style patio door. Center brace and one side of the trim had to be replaced as well as the trim board on the two sides and top of the frame. Corrected a construction flaw made by the home builder.

+ -1 moreFrom start to finish, they really did a fantastic job. Adam made the initial sales call and was prompt, courteous and thorough. We received our quote the following day, and though a touch more than we were hoping, we were looking for quality, and decided to proceed with the job. After a few weeks our doors arrived and installation began; all went well, save for the interior wooden door, as the manufacturers had sent the wrong one. We had to reschedule installation of that final door, but were left in good shape as both exterior steel doors and the security door were in place. After a couple of weeks, the interior door arrived and was installed straightaway. As it happened, we also had a deadbolt lock which was not functioning, in one of our existing doors, so the representative repaired it for us gratis.
Description of Work: We had 4 doors installed; two exterior steel doors, one interior solid-core wooden door, and one wrought-iron security door for the front entrance.
