Green Men brought to life my dream of a home basement brewery done in a modern industrial style. The area was small at 400sf but had complexities. They eliminated the flex ductwork that was visible with metal. Ceiling and walls prepped and painted. Quite a fair amount of woodwork and sealing up from the outside elements. Farmhouse door installed to block off the furnace area. Eggcrates installed on ceiling. Added electrical and lights. Beyond happy with the results and process. Dan was a pleasure to work with and very helpful and the estimate was reasonable and we stayed on budget. Both Vic and Joe are true craftsmen and such a pleasure to work with also. The job was on time and with the highest quality. I also appreciated the recommendations they made along the way to tweak my design as it saved money and added value! I highly recommend Green Men. You will not be disappointed. I fully intend to use them in 4-5 years to build my garage.

Chris did a thoughtful, competent, artistic design. When completed (which was very quick, although in the busy season), it was more than satisfactory.
Description of Work: Remodeling--General Specifically, landscaping: We needed a path designed from front yard through back that would be attractive, minimal maintenance, appropriate for the house, functional.

I called Green Men at the beginning of April to set up an estimate for my kitchen floors. I was looking into either tiling or replacing the laminate wood. They were very responsive initially and set up a time to come look at the floors a few days later. He came out a few days later and seemed very knowledgeable and gave me a large range estimate from 3,000 to 8,000 I believe it was. He said he would send me a more detailed and accurate estimate via email in about a week or two. I said no problem, it wasn't a rush job. I tried to give them lots of extra time, since the weather had just gotten nice and I'm sure business picked up. Unfortunately I still have not heard from them and it's now mid-June, over 2 months later. I've double checked by emails and phone messages and cannot find anything from them. At this point I would not hire them. If they did not to do the job on my kitchen floors, I would have been fine with them letting me know that initially.

Some tradesmen are skilled, but Chris is an artist with plaster. He's quick, low-key, a pleasure to talk to and deal with and, best of all, does an incredible job.
Description of Work: Chris repaired several areas of problematic plaster on walls and ceilings in our hallway and living room and replaced drywall in the sunroom.

The job went very smoothly indeed. Chris and Joe were professional, punctual, and very easy to work with. They were both sensitive to our plans and fears (you know you have them when you have this big a project) and sensitive to our budget. They were also creative in their solutions, which is something you certainly want but don't always find you have in remodeling help. For example, we mentioned our basement, which was remodeled into both a study and a storage area, neither of which we ever thought we'd have, and the aforementioned amazing "dog spa," solving the problem of how to invite company who don't love your dogs as much as you do. They also suggested some features we wouldn't have thought to request, for example, they rewired our computers and TVs, achieving a synchrony we hadn't expected and have so much enjoyed. They solved any problems that came up quickly and well. The quality of their work was exceptionally high. We recommend them very highly; if we needed to have any further work done, we will definitely call Green Men Restoration and know we would be lucky to have them.
Description of Work: We knew we needed to remodel our home, a small bungalow, after 20+ years of applying bandaids and bandages rather than true solutions. (The estimate above includes some materials.) We chose Green Men Restoration because of one review in particular on Angie's List, one that emphasized the expertise of Green Men in many areas as well as their responsibility in terms of doing what they said they would do when they said they would do it. Green Men Restoration has one associated characteristic that proved helpful: If they did not have the expertise required--for example, in extensive electrical rewiring--they know the exact firm to use. This was crucial, since the work that ended up being needed was much more than any of us had known. The artisans, Chris and Joe, did the work in two stages. In Summer 2014, they painted the exterior of the house, including the garage and the porch. (Reviewed separately under "Exterior painting.") They have the licensure to test old paint (like our porch) for environmental friendliness, and this came in handy when repainting and redesigning that area. While doing this work, they also worked with us on a plan for the general remodeling. It might make us sound somewhat spineless, but our limited knowledge of renovation made us happy to follow Chris and Joe's suggestions at just about every point, and we are just as happy to have done so. The result was a change that was spectacular for our home in particular and appropriate for the neighborhood. We still get compliments from neighbors. Beginning in the fall, Green Men began working on the interior of the house. Their work was extensive and took us to February 2015: essentially, they remodeled the house from top to bottom. Their work included carpentry/woodworking, interior painting, drywall, pressure washing, window treatment, and tiling. In the basement, they cleaned much of the basement out and waterproofed the basement floor. We had had a problem with flooding in the basement for years that we had been told was beyond help, and after Green Men finished we had not only a dry watertight basement, but one that had been remodeled into a small study, a bathroom, a laundry room, a large organized storage area, and, for our 3 small dogs, a "dog spa" (or stylishly fenced and finished small kennel area that was also soundproofed and triple waterproofed and sealed). In addition, they painted the entire basement and installed 8 glass-brick window, and the basement has remained dry as a nut. Upstairs, they retiled the hallway and five rooms (bedroom, living room , dining room, study, and break room). Very professional and promptly returned my calls. Chris arrived on time and provided me with an estimate in a timely manner. The guy who did the work (I don't remember his name) was great also. The drywall looks very professional, you would never know that part of it had been replaced. I felt comfortable leaving my home to go to work while they were working in my home. Everything went as expected. I would definitely recommend Green Men.

We had our house painted 3 years ago and on the north and east side of the house the paint was peeling badly. The previous job was about $1500, but you get what you pay for in this case. We called Chris from Green Men to come out and give us a quote. I explained that the previous painter had power washed then started to paint within a day and I suspected this was why our paint was peeling. Chris confirmed that this can happen with power washing, if it is not given adequate time to dry. The quote was for hand washing the exterior wood, scraping as much of the paint off as possible (down to bare wood in a lot of areas), priming, painting, and replacing 4 known sections of rotted wood for $4000. The price seemed a little high at first, but knowing now the amount of preparation before the painting even started it was very reasonable. Chris also suggested some colours to make our house pop a little more, we had previously just had flat white, so this made the job a little more fun for us than just a maintenance job. Chris and his crew started on the morning of the agreed day with the scraping and washing. As the job progressed there were 4 more areas of wood to change, but they always checked and gave an amount extra it would cost, or give us the option of painting over it with some basic repair. My wife also requested for them to encase the turned pillars on our front porch, which they did with cedar boards. Their attention to detail was impeccable, and they requested our feedback at every step to make sure we were happy with the work. The end job wasn't just a quick maintenance job, but a transformation of the house that was worth every penny! The pillars were $800 extra that was not in the original quote and as I mentioned they always asked about extra work before going ahead with it, so the overage was about $400 (or 10%), and wouldn't have been that high if we asked them not to do the extra wood replacements.
Description of Work: Wash, scrape, replace wood, prime and paint exterior of our house.

It went really well. We found this group on Angie's List, and, in decades of using the List and Unified Neighbors, we have to say that this was the recommendation that worked out the very best. Chris and Joe, the proprietors and main workers at Green Men Restoration, were thorough, thoughtful, checked at every point with us about choices, punctual (they finished the job a little early, and they had scheduled it very promptly in the first place), and cleaned up at every point. They both work a very full day, starting early and remaining sometimes till sundown. They are both meticulous, making exterior painting seem like a craft. Both Chris and Joe are pleasant and easy to work with. They explain their recommendations well, while always respecting individual choices. They involved us in every aspect of the job. Chris is especially knowledgeable about (and licensed to evaluate) EPA issues, so that he was able to evaluate our old paint for lead and take measures to make sure his job did not cause old paint to contaminate our yard or our community. For the first time, we have had many neighbors come by to tell us how wonderful our home looks. Chris is also an artist, so he uses his painter's eye to choose the best color scheme and remodeling scheme. He also painted our basketball backboard at our request. We now have the only backboard that we know of with an abstract expressionist design. We couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Painted and remodeled home and garage exteriors of small bungalow home. Did small repairs or alterations needed in the process, such as painting basketball backboard. Evaluated other aspects of exterior and gave recommendations as to how they;d best be tackled. (The approximate cost above includes materials.)

From quote to finish, the job went smoothly and according to plan.
Description of Work: After over 18 months of poor service from the previous contractor, Green Men Restoration came in and completed our project, a built-in wall unit in our living room, as well as painting and other projects within 35 days. Their work is superior and we are thankful to have found them. Chris was punctual, professional and did the job he promised and then some. He is also very detail orientated. We will make use of their services and quality workmanship again.

The job went as planned from start to finish. Saw their ad in Angie's monthly booklet. Chris came out and determined what I wanted done. He then scheduled a day to come out and measure the boards needing to be replaced. The next day he arrived as scheduled and with a helper completed the work in about two hours.

Chris was recommended by a friend. He came over a day after I called and gave us a quote. We scheduled the job and he was punctual and real easy to work with. We used Benjamin Moore Aura paint to cover the red-orange. The guy at the store said it should only take two coats. They next day, the red was still showing a bit in spots. Chris came back and put on another coat. It looks so great. We were under a time crunch because the new sectional sofa was being delivered the next day. He got the job done, efficiently and easily. He even smoothed out some cracks in the ceiling before painting it. Given the old walls, he had clean even lines. He even called back after the sofa was delivered to make sure that everything looked good. I will call Chris for all our painting needs.
Description of Work: We have a 1929 bungalow cottage with old walls and ceilings. The TV/guest room needed to be repainted. The walls were painted in a very glowing red-orange.

All in all, Chris was the most pleasant and easy to work with contractors I have ever used. He is punctual, thorough, neat and an excellent painter. I gave him a key and he came and went as he needed. He was always willing to go with the flow, as we added things along the way. Chris can do most anything, and if there is something he needs help with, he has contacts that can get those jobs done--basically, he can be a general contractor if you need that. He takes great pride in his work and is really easy to work with. His pricing is very fair as well. I will use him (Green Men Restoration) again, I am sure, many times, and I wholeheartedly recommend Chris!
Description of Work: Chris did several projects. There was some outdoor house trim repair and painting, indoor painting, putting in floor tiles in bathrooms, changing out vanities in bathrooms--and other various jobs. Almost the entire interior of the house was repainted. Chris had to do some repairs as well to window sills.

We needed wood trim all around outside of brick and siding house removed, replaced and painted to specifications of neighborhood association. Quote was the same amount as another company that said they would send a "team". Green Men Restoration Group - the owner came himself to do most of the work, brought another worker as needed. Exterior work was delayed due to days of rain, so he measured all the areas, and cut and prepped the wood at his workshop. All wood was primed and sealed at the workshop, then all damaged wood was removed once the weather cleared. He found some areas of damage that weren't visible initially and discussed with us before adding that work. He kept to the same pricing method, so there were no surprises - we expected to find at least some more damage than was externally visible. He made sure we understood the additional work and costs before going ahead. He removed ant nests and treated those areas at no extra cost. He then installed all the new prepped wood, primed and sealed properly once installed and then painted all areas, including some not on original quote, so the paint would all match. He also replaced a screen on screened in porch and did a wonderful job on that, making it all sit tight and square. He turned up when he said he would (once the rain stopped; he called in advance to tell us that he couldn't work due to rain). He cleaned up after himself daily. He took a couple of days more than originally expected, but that was partly due to our exceptionally wet weather and partly due to needing extra work. He took the time to find rough cut wood to match the existing wood for the screened porch, and took the time to explain why the original wood had rotted and how he was prepping his work to prevent that happening again. Because this was my father's house, he also took the time to call me and update me on progress.
Description of Work: Removed all damaged wood. Prepped and painted all replacement wood once in shop and again when installed. Removed insect infestation and sprayed. Replaced the damaged screen very evenly.
