We have a 3-season room that we enclosed with EZ-Breez windows in 2010. We had problems with leaking occasionally when we had a heavy, blowing rain, and were looking for a handyman who could assess the problem and address it so the porch would no longer leak when it rained. We reached out to James in late September, 2019, to start discussing how to address the problem, and told him we would like to salvage as much of the existing wood as possible. On October 25 we received the contract from Eiseman Home Solutions to remove the window panels, paint all of the wood inside and out to seal it, then properly reinstall the windows with caulking and flashing, for $1950, and it would take 2 guys 3 days to complete. We agreed to have him do the work, with the caveat that if he got into it and we needed to replace any rotten wood, we would discuss it and adjust cost as needed to resolve the leaking. Work was supposed to start October 28, but due to a family emergency, he didn’t get started until October 29. James assured us he would do the job right and we wouldn’t have future problems with leaking. He was here with 1-3 guys over the next week. He was often late with no call to say if/when he would be here. One day he and one guy left for lunch, leaving the third man here alone (the painter, who did continue to work), and James didn’t come back or call to say he wasn’t coming back that day. When the work was completed on Nov. 6, the total came to $3590, and we paid him the full amount immediately. Flashing was not done, as he didn’t think it was necessary. James guaranteed to us verbally it would never leak. The job looked very nice at completion, but they did get some paint on the deck and a little on the inside concrete. That didn’t worry us that much. It was more important that the leaks were addressed. On November 26, James reached out to us to see how things were going. We told him then that the extra trim piece he had installed on the inside (to make it look better) prevented the windows from being removed from the tracks, which has to be done in order to wash/clean them. He said he didn’t realize that (and neither did we until we tried to clean them). Then on November 27, we had rain. The porch leaked at least as bad as prior to the fix. We texted James about the leak, and he requested pictures. We sent them right back to him. We heard back from him the next day, and had texts back and forth about the issue on November 28. Then we heard nothing further. On December 9, we had another rain, and it leaked again. We texted him and sent pictures. Again, we heard nothing back. We thought we would let him get through the holidays, then follow up with him again after the first of the year. On January 6, 2020, we texted him and asked if he had any idea when he might be able to get to fixing our problem. Again, no word back. Another rain on January 10. We sent him more pictures of leaks from that rain, with concerns that it was leaking even worse than it was before they did the work. We tried to call James on Monday, January 13, 2020, no answer, and left a voicemail for him to call us about what he might be able to do for the issue. At present we still have heard nothing back from him. At this point, we can’t give him a favorable review for the job he did. Additionally, while everything seemed very professional at the outset, his lack of communication, unreliability for being there when he said he would, and the quality of the work after-the-fact, is very disappointing. We just want him to stand behind his work, and make it right.
Description of Work: Our back porch had EZ-Breez windows that were improperly installed so that if we had a heavy rain, we had water leaking in around the windows of our 3-season room. We wanted the windows removed, any water damaged wood to be removed, the windows properly reinstalled, caulked, flashed, and the wood trim all painted. Most important was that the porch and windows would no longer leak.

I apologize for your inconvenience, if I could do one thing different on this job it would have been to talk you into tearing out the header the last company put in and making sure it was waterproof before doing all the other work. Still thanks for the opportunity

[Member Name Removed] was supposed to call us back later that night and send pictures of her corbel: she described it as something she was going to do herself she just needed a ladder. [Member Name Removed] you could of called us back like you said you were going to do. — you were supposed to send pictures so I could give you a bid over the phone mam. This is not right you would just give us a bad grade like that this is how I make a living. And U know you were supposed to send pics to bid over the phone. If you remember this you said u were at work and needed to get off the phone but you would send pics. If u so I really feel you should redact this statement

The work was completed by the owner. He made a special effort to complete the work after regular business hours due to delays related to unusual circumstances beyond his control.

The job started on June 19th 2019 and was nearly completed by August 16th 2019. Initially I really thought I’d found a wonderful contractor who knew what he was doing. His punctuality was an issue from the beginning but I gave him leeway as he was doing this small job after work each day. Firstly he started to install the door and after 3 visits it was clear that the original opening wasn’t plumb. So after nailing the new frame into place it was decided it would never work properly. Plan B was to use another opening into the laundry which he initially said he would complete with no extra charge. That changed and he told me it would cost him more to install. My husband & I agreed to the additional $20O on top of the initial quote of $300. In hindsight though we aren’t builders and truly James should have noticed how bad the wall & opening were out of alignment in the beginning. As the new opening needed to be framed up and plastered we were told it would take a little longer. By the bad workmanship of a couple of his workers James had to redo most of their work. James I believe is a good worker when he finally turns up and is focused, but he has too many distractions from his phone and his lack of communication regarding his bad punctuality and in some cases not turning up at all has soured any good he did. He was paid what we agreed on the last time he was here and was to return the following Sunday to redo a few issues, like nails that were protruding as they were nailed through on angles that weren’t through the framing properly and filling the rest of the nail holes. I was so annoyed when James made no effort to contact me on Saturday as he had promised regarding coming here on Sunday. I discovered he had filled the majority of nail holes he had done with caulk and filled really badly. He has not been back and I don’t want him to return. A very unhappy situation. Sadly this contractor has great potential, he lets himself down as well as his customers

This is not the first time [Member Information Removed] has done this. Everyone can check my work and track record. This is the scary part about this business, you have an elder woman who comes onto you and makes a pass at you and you kindly reject them and this happens. Ms [Member Name Removed]’s lied about the job. It was not a single door. It was to build an entire wall then hang a door in that, which we did in two days. That is framing, drywall, tape, mud, trim quarter round and Barton strip. And yes we did this for her for 500, and she was supposed to pay me back for materials. We had one day left to finish and collect the rest of our money so instead of letting us finish the 2 hours worth of work and pay us the rest of our money she fabricated a story like this. Please look at my work and other reviews this is a fabrication and a misrepresentation of the truth. Contractors beware of the [Member's Name Removed] this is not there first time doing this.
