I am almost leery of reporting this review, in lieu of Mr Bowron's prior response to another Angie's List member. However, we feel strongly- considering the disaster we are now facing in the front yard- of alerting other people to his service. When we moved into the home late in 2009, we discovered the lawn had not been cared for very well and there were especially a lot of weeds. During the spring when the dandelions 'bloom', the backyard was bright yellow because of so many weeds! So, the 2010 season needed to first and foremost be the year to just get the weeds under control. Unfortunately, 2011 will be the year we will need to repair the damage done in 2010. Two- thirds of the front yard grass has been damaged so badly from over-fertilization, or some type of chemical exposure, that we are now getting quotes for either new top-soil and extensive re-seeding, or laying down sod- and this is going to be expensive. Several other lawncare and landscaping experts have suggested the lawn and even the soil was damaged and destroyed by chemicals. Since we never did any treatment to the lawn ourselves (due to neither of us have the time to take care of the yard- that's why we hire someone)- and the only company who did any chemical treatment last year was Mr. Bowron's service. Last season, due to overall "disenchantment" with him and how he was cutting our yard (because our neighbors also complained to us about him and his employees- and they complained more than once about something they did while they were here) - we had decided this year we were not going to hire his company again. Now, since the snow has melted and we discover the problem we are facing with the front, it has been reinforced that we made the right decision last year. Of course, we cannot say with 100% certainty that the front yard destruction was 'caused' by Grass Busters- except that is what we are being told by other lawn and grass professionals. We have decided moving forward in 2011, we will hire only earth-friendly or organic lawncare and fertilization companies, due to our experience with chemical over-exposure.

I just wanted to let you know that I had a very big problem on my lunch hour with "Grass Busters Lawn & Landscape, LLC". I noted, when I let my dogs out, that none of the workers were on my side of her yard. While servicing my neighbor's yard a man from the compnay crossed over the property line with me and my dogs in my backyard. This would not have been an issue except that one of my dogs is blind and was frozen in place shaking because of the leaf blower that he was using. I had to take my dogs in without them being able to use the bathroom before I had to go back to work. I wrote a note that requested that they not do that, and explained the reason. At the end of the note I said, "I do not expect to have to address this issue again." The man that I believe to be the Owner, Mike Bowron, came to my side door which is blocked from the view of most of the street. Told me not to let my dogs out while they were working if they are "too scared to crap" because that isn't his fault. He then told me,"that I shouldn't have addressed the issue in the first place". I tried to shut my door because I was very upset that not only was he on my property a second time without my permission, but he was berating me. He put his hand on my door and pushed it back open. I said, " Don't you dare." I had to use two hands to shut the door against his pushing. I am apalled and shaken, and do not wish anyone else this experience. I plan to call the police if I ever see him on my property again. updated 12/15/2010: Please feel free to read this company's response. This man was actually mowing the front yard while all of this was happening, which is why I wrote a note and put it on his windshield. I was on my cell phone with my mother, and I was not yelling at her when this man came to my side door. He did not come to my front door, where there is storm door and we would have been in full sight of all the neighbors. I did have to tell my dog to be quiet three times as he is protective with unknown people at our side door. He did have to pararphase because the note was shoved back at me many times until I finally took it, not grabbed. I did not say they couldn't crap. This was his assumption. He was standing on my doorstep, and I went to shut my door, not slam. This is the point, as previously stated, that he pushed it back open on me. My fiance and I have lived in and paid for our house for almost 4 years. I find it sad that his only frame of reference for women is Bridezillas. He is correct that we are not his client, but we were only once when we first bought the home. We were not satisfied with the work, and therefore did not continue service. Thank you for taking the time to hear my concerns, as I hope he might actually for the next dissatisfied party he encounters. 7/17/2012: I find his response an entertaining work of fiction (see other reviews). My neighbor, his client, is his mother, whom I have given rides to church.
Description of Work: I am actually the neighbor of one of their customer's. I was so shocked and unnerved by what I experienced that I wanted to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Response from GRASS BUSTERS
A crew of 3 showed up to do a leaf removal job at next door neighbor to "complaintant". We were working for 10 minutes in front yard with 2 leaf blowers & a mower/vacuum unit, prior to moving to back yard of client. We spent probably 10 minutes doing backyard area. During that whole time there was no sight of women next door or her little dog. We then went to service another property a couple houses down, which took about 15 minutes. When we returned & loaded up our equipment there was a note under the windshield wiper on my truck. Paraphrasing note, it stated her "blind dog was hiding behind the hot tub shaking and couldn't poop because it was scared". It also stated that one of the workers was "on her property" as well as ending with her curt "I don't expect to have to address this again" comment. I asked my workers if they were "on her property". One told me he might have been "6 inches" while blowing in back yard. (These are very small properties on near eastside of Indy.) Neither of them had seen any person or dog out on the property while working. I went to her side door and knocked (no screen or storm door, just a wooden access door) as this is the door they use. She opened the door but motioned for me to hold on as she was currently on the cell phone yelling at someone. When she got off the phone I began to address her note & its comments, but the dog started barking. She yelled at the dog and it got quiet. I again started to talk & dog barked again, she yelled again....this went on three time before she took dog into another room. I was standing in the door way holding the note out so she could see it so we could address the problems listed. I told her my guy said he was possibly 6" over the property line. I also said to her we were in the front working for some time prior to moving to the back, but she still took her dog out anyway, and was mad at us, when none of us ever saw her or her dog...seemed like that was on her for taking the dog out when she knew we were there working. She would know how her dog behaves around noises, not me. I didn't even know she had a dog! Yes, I did say that it wasn't my fault if her dogs were "too scared to crap", which is what she stated in her note. At which time she grabbed the note she had written out of my hand and then literally tried to slam the door in my face (as I was standing in the doorway talking with her). I did put my hand out in front of me so door wouldn't hit me in the face. She then wound up and slammed it again. Her boyfriend(who is the actual property owner), called & left a message on my machine, asking me to call him, which I did. I was able to actually have a conversation with him and tell him what went on. While talking to him she kept yelling in the background. He had to stop talking with me 2 times and tell her to "shut up" (his words not mine) because he couldn't hear. Basically, she behaves like one of those people on the TV show "Bridezillas". She continued yelling in the background while I was talking with her boyfriend. She was all upset because a worker had stepped 6" over the property line. And wanted her boyfriend to tell us not to step on her property, which I told him that was fine. I asked the boyfriend to tell her not to touch my truck or equipment again either. The boyfriend went on to discuss about how "they" were clients too. Which I disagreed with him on. They are not my client. I attempted to talk to her about her note in a "neighborly" fashion, and all the good it did was to have her rip the note from my hand and try to slam the door on me. At this point I told the boyfriend that I was done talking to him. After Bridezilla slammed the door on me, I walked back to my truck & we loaded up to leave. She then comes backing down her driveway in her car and pulls away in a westerly direction. I was parked heading to the west and pulled away from the curb towing my trailer loaded with 5000 lbs of leaves. About 100 feet from her driveway is a STOP sign at the intersection of the next street. She stopped at the sign and I pulled up behind her, waiting to turn right. She turns around in her seat and grimmaces & scowls at me for probably 10 seconds before she turns left. I turn right and go on to my next job. On another "customer review site" she claimed that I "tailgated" her. That to me shows just how vindictive this woman is...claiming that I tailgated her for 100 feet!

They have been very professional in terms of responding to phone calls. They actually send us a bill so we don't have to pay them every time they come out. It is convenient. Every time I would love them to do something additional, they just go ahead and take care of it right away. The above cost is per visit.
Description of Work: They mow our yard once every two weeks when the weather permits.

MIKE COMES EVERY WEEK, IS VERY NICE. THE ONE THING I APPRECIATE IS HE WILL COME AND IF THE LAWN DOESN'T NEED CUT -- HE LEAVES A NOTE SAYING HE WAS HERE BUT DIDN'T MOW. RATHER THAN CUTTING THE GRASS WHETHER IT NEEDS IT OR NOT -- AND BILLING US -- HE ONLY MOWS WHEN NEEDED.
Description of Work: MIKE MOWS AND TRIMS OUR LAWN ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

MIKE'S WORK GRADUALLY WORSENED OVER THE YEARS. HE JUST WAS NOT RESPONSIVE TO MY REQUESTS. HE SEEMED TO WANT TO DO NOTHING OTHER THAN A QUICK MOW. HE DID NOT CLEANUP CLIPPINGS WELL AND BLAMED ME FOR THE CONDITION OF THE LAWN.
Description of Work: MOWED MY LAWN AND TRIMMED.

CUSTOMER WAS NOT A "REGULAR WEEKLY CUSTOMER". SHE WOULD CALL ON A "WHENEVER" BASIS AND I WAS ALWAYS RESPSONSIVE ON MOWING, WITHIN 2 DAYS OF HER CALL! I ALWAYS WORKED HER INTO MY MOWING SCHEDULE. SHE WAS MADE AWARE AHEAD OF TIME THAT NOT BEING A "REGULAR WEEKLY CUSTOMER", SHE MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT A COUPLE OF DAYS UNTIL WORKERS WERE IN HER AREA. SHE WOULD CALL TO MOW ABOUT EVERY 2 TO 3 WEEKS, DURING THE TURF GROWING SEASON. OF COURSE, HER YARD WAS OVERGROWN BY "REASONABLE STANDARDS" FOR INDY IN SPRING TIME! HOWEVER, SHE APPARENTLY EXPECTS THAT 3 OR 4 WEEKS OF CLIPPINGS WILL "MAGICALLY" DISAPPEAR WITH A $25 BASIC MOWING! (NOT WANTING TO PAY EXTRA TO HAVE CLIPPINGS BAGGED AND REMOVED.) EVERY SO OFTEN SHE WOULD CALL WITH A REQUEST FOR ME TO PLANT A BUSH OR SHRUB THAT SHE HAD PURCHASED. I PRE-PLAN ALL MY BUSH/SHRUB INSTALLATIONS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON FOR A 10 WEEK PERIOD FROM JUNE 1ST TO AUG. 15TH. I HAD TO WORK HER UNPLANNED PLANTING JOBS INTO MY SCHEDULE, WHICH SOMETIMES TOOK 2 OR 3 WEEKS. SHE HAD SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH ME FOR THE 2005 SEASON. I DROVE BY THEIR RESIDENCE ON JULY 1ST, 2005, AS MOST CLIENTS LIKE TO HAVE THEIR YARD LOOKING GOOD FOR HOLIDAYS (FOURTH OF JULY). AT THAT TIME I NOTICED SOMEONE ELSE HAD MOWED THE LAWN. LATER THAT WEEK I RECEIVED A BRIEF HANDWRITTEN NOTE FROM HER ADVISING MY SERVICES WERE NO LONGER NEEDED. I WROTE HER A 2 PAGE LETTER ADVISING THEY VIOLATED A SIGNED CONTRACT, AND TO NOT CALL ME BACK AGAIN!
