Garden Works

This was purchased as one of Angie's daily deals. I met with the owner and told him what need to be done, and he said he would call with a time to do the work. He never called. I tried calling him and got no return. I called Angie's List that I had made the purchase and couldn't reach the owner, and they said they would try to reach him. I never heard back from Angie's List or from the owner. Angie's List received $200, I'm out $200, and no work was done.

delivery person was prompt, courteous, and professional. as with all my previous experience with delivered firewood, the rick contained about 20 percent junk wood (decayed logs, scrap cuttings, cut branches instead of logs). firewood sellers show wonderful piles of beautifully split logs in their listings, but the real stuff ALWAYS get diluted with junk.

Brent came as a recommendation from Handy Randy Home Service for removing some bushes. Brent arrived on time and did a complete job on the bushes, digging out the stumps by hand. It was a long day of hard work for a great price, about $250. Brent is a friendly, gregarious guy. He's the type of small-business owner you can't help but root for. He asked what the plan was for the space and when the idea of a patio came up he convinced us he would be perfect for the job. A week or so later, work commenced on the patio. Gravel and sand was applied. He mentioned having some left over stones from a different job and started spacing those out in place. He needed to buy materials so we made a couple up front payments. Weather brought a pause to the work, then an unexpected surgery put on a full stop. After 6 weeks of no communication, we started to get concerned and changed the tone of our calls. Meanwhile, my confidence in his abilities was waning. What I originally thought was simply spacing stones ahead of grading the bed, I started to suspect was actually the finished product - stones haphazardly laid into a completely uneven base. When he finally got back in touch with us, he admitted the surgery was an excuse. He promised to make good on our payments and either finish the job or pay us back incrementally a month at a time. I decided not to have him finish and I have no expectation of ever seeing that money again. On a final note, I had several contractors out to estimate work to finish the patio. Every single one couldn't believe how amateurish and totally wrong was the "work" that had been done. And each of them included a line item, charging nearly what I'd originally paid, to undo what Brent had done. I should know better. It can happen to anyone, but never yield. Get a quote in writing. Get a signed contract for every job. And always check Angie's List first!

Did show up but not on planned days. Only completed part of the work. Poor communication, no response to calls and e-mails and just seem to disappear!

I paid him $300 up front for the purchase of a tree and for him to put the tree in. As of 06/24/15 I paid him up front. Since then the check has been cashed but he has not put my tree in and I have called and emailed multiple times with no response.

I purchased the deal on 4/2, on 4/9 i recevied a message to send a phone number so the could call and schedule a time to complete the work. I responsed that day. On 4/13 I received a phone call and a message saying I was scheduled for 5/4. I called and spoke with Brett about getting on the schedule sooner. I was told that that was the first available spot they had at that time, but that he believed he could move me up sooner, and he would call and let me know. I didn not here back from him about rescheduling. On 5/1, the Friday before the scheudled day I call and left a message asking what time he would be showing up on Monday, as I had to take time off from work. I didn't here back from him. On 5/4 I took the day off and waited at home. By noonish I hadn't heard anything so I called and left a message. Brett called that evening and appologized, saying he had been sick and he had gotten behind in his schedule. He assured me he would get my work done as soon as possible. He said he had to check the schedule and would get back to me later that work/early next week with a new day. It's now 5/26 and I have yet to hear back from Bett. I called today and asked for a refund of the money I spent on the Big Deal. I understand illness can disrupt your schedule, especially if you are a small company. However it's completely unacceptable business practice to not return phone calls, and not do work that you have been paid to do.

We had a scheduled date finally, but they did not show or call.

I have called and emailed this company since I purchased it on April 2nd and have not heard back from them.

Never contacted, but got our money.

I lost days in waiting to be scheduled because of this company either having too much business or poor customer service. When I talked with the scheduler or whoever he was, he implied his company had other deals besides Angie's List. In fact, I had to remind him several times, I was an Angie's List customer. I was really hoping that Angie's List did not have the same problems as Groupon et al with small businesses not knowing how to handle the business.

The corresponding is inconsistent. We haven't been able to schedule to get the work done.

Brent is excellent to work with for about any exterior lawn/property project. Give him a shot and I think you will agree. He's pretty centrally located so he can be to most parts of the city pretty fast.

Brent came and cleaned my driveway and sidewalks!! It was nice coming home from work and not having to shovel!! Even cleared a path to the doors where there was no walkway!

It was a good experience, and everything went well. Brent and his team had a positive and can-do attitude, they did a great job, and they were very knowledgeable and helpful. Furthermore, he was upfront and honest, and he has good connections in the industry. In fact, Brent connected us with a great individual to help with part of a tree that had fallen on a power line. Ultimately, he's done such a good job that we've hired him for additional work.

If not for Angie's List, I would not have found this gem of a company! Garden Works went above and beyond, providing additional service at no extra charge. They were prompt, very polite and it was an excellent value. I have already recommended them to friends and will continue to do so. It is my hope they receive the Super Savers Award because they certainly deserve it. There was a lot of work to be done on my house and they completed the whole project in record time and with a fantastic attitude.

They did a great job, worked hard and long hours to get the work done quickly so we'd still have time to plant grass and trees before the fall. Brent even lent us some of his hoses since we do not have a sprinkler system. On the whole we are trying to encourage the growth of native plants and trees, and minimize use of chemicals in the yard. Brent understood and appreciated our intentions and worked with us to give us what we wanted.

Did the work I initially wanted. Quoted me price for additional work. Performed additional work. Got work done quickly. Very professional. Awaiting stump removal which service provider typically does several weeks after job completion. This is fine, but would prefer stumps be removed fairly quickly after trees taken down. Would hire again. Very personable.

I keep getting prompts from Angie's list to provide a review but ignored the prompts because I couldn't provide a review since no service had been performed. Now I have received a third reminder I thought maybe I should provide a review because it is telling that I have not had anyone do anything, not even break one limb out of a tree. What I will say is that after I contacted Garden Works, since it had been a few weeks with no contact to schedule an appointment, I did have a pleasant conversation with what appeared to be a nice gentleman. Since so much time has passed, I can't remember his name but was told the following week someone would come out to assess the job but that never happened. So I sent an email maybe a week or so after that and got a response a few days later. But that response was inaccurate as it said someone would come to assess the job the following week and that never happened either. SOOOOO with that said, they could be very good at what they do but if you don?t' actually get started then it really doesn?t' matter. I purchased this deal in the beginning of July and its August 19th and still nothing, not even a drive by to look at the job at hand. I had already gotten two different estimates so know how much the job should cost but saw this deal and thought wow, this is great. But now it doesn't seem so great. Not much of a deal to pay $200 for no service at all. I work in product complaints as a quality consultant and think wow if we ran business like this; we would be in a lot of trouble and have zero customers. For me it?s not that the schedule is full or there have been changes, it's the lack of courtesy to call your customer and keep them informed. It has become a second job, which I don't need, to follow up on this. I am a big believer if you have bitten off more than you can chew, just say so refund the person their money and say sorry we can't get the job done with our current staff. But not to say anything and someone has paid for a service and contacted your several times is simply unacceptable. I hope that soon the work is completed but would never try this again. Saving the 200 is not worth the headache. That is my professional quality review of Garden Works.

Two appointments made, provider didn't show and did not initiate contact with me.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal of the day from this company on July 7th. They have not contacted me to schedule the service. I emailed them 5 days ago to inquire and have received no response. I understand that they undoubtedly are back-logged by offering a Angie's List promotion, but to not contact me at all is not acceptable.

Took several attempts to get in contact with the Service provider. No-call no-showed for my appointment. Going to get a refund through Angie's List.

They were very punctual and the deal worked real well for me. They were friendly and did every spot I asked them to clean up. They even brought back some mulch for me when I asked. They were also easy to schedule with.

I saw their add on your site: $199 for $400 worth of tree service. Since I have several saplings in my yard, fence, etc. I thought this is something I'd like. So, I ordered and paid for one. I told them good dates to come to the house so I could point out where the saplings were. I never had anyone call and set up an appointment or show up. I tried emailing and calling numerous times...and no response back.

Brent and his helpers have been great. He has done a lot of work for me this spring in getting my yard cleaned and spruced up for me to put it on the market. Brent is very personable and a hard worker. Tim, his assistant, also worked very hard doing a good job. I will have them do some work for me at my new place. I took pictures to post but can't figure out how to get them from my phone onto this site!

Brent was very nice and knowledgeable.
