I needed to replace my door so I stopped by the office one day after work and Precia was friendly and informative and gave me an estimate. Told me once I decided on a color and style, to call and she would schedule it. I called and she wanted to schedule it the next day! but I scheduled it the next week so I could be off work. The young man showed up on time and started right away. He was friendly and answered my questions and did a great job. The price was just as quoted by Precia. The door is what I ordered and looks very nice.
Description of Work: Replaced door (including new rails and sealers) and opener and keyless entry.

Since the door opener iis obsolete and parts unavailable, we had to purchase a new garage door opener. The cost of the opener with installation was $268.00. There was no charge for the first two service calls which we appreciated.
Description of Work: Our garage door was not opening properly. The serviceman came out and checked the door. He came back later with a part tried to repair the automatic door stop on the opener, but it still didn't work properly. We then ordered and new garage door opener.

Garage door was not working back in April. They came several times to 'fix' it. They ended up replacing a 'chip' on the board. And 3 months later, it stopped working again. The warranty was 90 days. We decided to have another company to fix it. Very disappointed.
Description of Work: They replaced chip on the board, replaced one opener, etc.

Response from Garage Doors of Indianapolis
We were contacted on February 20th, 2010 because the member’s Wayne Dalton I-drive operator was not working. We reset and reprogrammed the operator and tuned-up the member’s garage door. The member signed off on the completion of the work and we were paid accordingly as the operator was functioning properly upon our departure. We received a second call on the 22nd stating that the remotes were no longer working. We returned that day and determined the circuit board to be bad. A replacement was immediately ordered. It should be noted, that this model of operator has been pulled from the shelves and is no longer available as a consumer product, due to their poor performance and difficulty to repair and maintain. The circuit board arrived on March 26th and we returned to the member’s home. During the visit to replace the circuit board, the member had us replace the bottom seal on his door, provide a new wireless wall button and added a third car control, which inreased the cost of the overall bill. No additional labor was charged for these additions. Once again, upon leaving on the 26th, the member acknowledged that everything was working properly. We then received a third call on April 6th asking us to return on April 15th. We returned to find the remotes not functioning again. We reprogrammed them at no charge and left once everything was working properly. We feel we did everything possible, short of changing the operator to a different and more reliable option, to resolve the member’s issues. An option the member was not willing to do. I would love to hear how the problem was finally resolved so we could use this as a learning experience. Corey Frost VP Operations

I was shocked they were able to get me in the same day! I have used them a few years back and couldn't be happier I worked with them again! He went above and beyond by addressing issues caused by the initial installation. I was worried about this being an expensive project and was pleasantly surprised about it being under $100. He honored the $10 Angie's List discount as well. UPDATE: They came out again and diagnosed the problem with our sensors. For the past couple of years, our door never shut and it now closes all the way. We thought that the problem was from the sun. He found that there was a wire loose and fixed it. They didn't charge us anything additional. We are extremely happy that they were able to fix the problem and that we don't have to manually shut the garage doors.
Description of Work: I contacted them to repair my garage door. Occasionally, we would have issues where it would be stuck open or closed.

I called them on a Saturday evening because my garage door wouldn't move, and by 10 p.m. I was back in business. Not only did the repairman fix the door problem, he also greased the tracks of both my garage doors while he was here. You couldn't ask for better service.

The salesman was prompt and helpful in giving us the estimate (I had gone in to the showroom to look at samples in advance, so we knew which door we wanted). The door had to be ordered and came in (as promised) 2-3 weeks later, and was installed on time (during a morning thunderstorm). My only complaint was that the salesman assured us that the door would be so much quieter than the old one. It's not only quieter, we think it's a little noisier! It's not why we replaced the door, but we were looking forward to quieter operation.

My garage door would only open no more than a foot. One of the two springs was broken in the opening mechanism. The man who came out worked extremely hard, got the spring to come out, and fixed the door. He was out my house around 10:00.

This experience is one of the reasons I joined Angie's List. Adam came over 09/11/2009. Service was provided approximately 10/19/2009. The delay was related to back ordered items. When the doors were being taken out no care was taken to remove the trim first. It was specifically stated to save the trim since it was cedar. Some of it was damaged. I accepted a glue job as repair. Then my neighbor calls my husband to report one of the workers had spit on my dogs in their kennel far away from the house. My husband confronted the worker that did it. The conversation went as expected from someone who would spit on a dog. The worker was sent home by the crew leader. I called Cory the service manager and complained. He was very empathetic and offered a discount. I just wanted my locks re-keyed, which they did. I did not receive the warranty or tax credit papers with my doors. I called and eventually they came. Then I noticed the front storm door was trimmed in brass and not etched glass as was explained at purchase. We had gotten oil rubbed bronze everything. I called and they said they could order a glass insert and it would take three weeks. I was not reimbursed for the mistake. Three weeks came and went. I called Lorna whom I had always delt with and was told to call Adam the salesman. I never heard back from him. I called Lorna back and she would not even take my call. I related to the secretary if she would not take my call I would come up and talk to her in person (an hour drive). She took the call, and basically said the salesman needs to take care of his own mistakes. When I did speak to Adam he said he was too busy and he, like me, wished this was all over with too. Apparently, he had forgotten to order the glass. So, I waited another three plus weeks. It was now 2/2010, 6 months later. Now that I use my storm door since it is summer, I noticed the lock rubs so you have to pull it shut and you can see light above the door. It also slammed shut. I did not want to call back this company. I had another handyman out here on another job. He related they did not spend enough time on the door to raise it up so they could put the rubber sweep on the bottom. They decided to just leave it off. I was really disappointed and frustrated with this experience. I spent a lot of money on these doors and was repaid in grief. I could never recommend this company.
Description of Work: I bought 2 storm doors and two exterior doors and had them installed.

Response from Garage Doors of Indianapolis
The contract in question was signed September 8, 2009. Due to the customer’s out of town location, we were not able to measure until September 14, 2009. The job was completely installed October 26, 2009. There were several delays with this job. All delays were a result of back order from our manufacturer. While we understand that the delays are inconvenient, they were also unavoidable. The customer was kept informed on all shipment details and delays. When we went out to install the customer’s product, care was taken to remove the cedar trim; however, this trim was old and is nailed into the wall. It is not odd to have some damage occur due to the process of taking the trim off. The trim was also removed first as this is the first step one must complete to take out an existing unit. Due to the ceiling on the customer’s front porch, if the bottom sweep on the storm door had been installed, the chance of a future service issue increased. Because it is the goal of our company to provide a superior product with little to no service issues, it was in the best interest of the customer for us to leave off the door sweep and drop the door down to ensure proper fit and operation. An incident did occur on site where a crew member spit on or near the customer’s dog. His behavior was reprimanded and is considered absolutely unacceptable by our company. We apologized to the customer and offered to change her locks as she requested. The homeowner hired her own locksmith and we reimbursed the cost via a credit on the customer’s account. Approximately one to two weeks after the installation, the customer called to state that the storm door glass was incorrect. The office staff confirmed that the door ordered did match the model number listed in the signed contract. At that point, the customer was informed that the salesman would call to discuss the miscommunication and rectify the situation. The customer was also called again on Nov. 12, 2009 to confirm that the salesman had been in contact with them; the customer confirmed that the salesman did call and speak with them regarding the storm door. The salesman agreed to order a new glass insert in order to make up for the misunderstanding that occurred between the customer and himself at the time of the sale. While a monetary credit was not extended to the customer for the misunderstanding, we did allow the customer to keep the mistake glass inserts for any future needs as oppose to returning it to the manufacturer. At no time did the office staff ever refuse to accept the customer’s phone calls. The customer was directed to the appropriate party at all times and was kept informed. Whenever the customer was directed to voicemail, the call was always returned. The customer also never ‘threatened’ to drive to our office, as she was being communicated with. There was a slight delay in the storm door glass inserts, but the salesman did not forget to order it. Any storm door glass that has any decorative components (caming, etching, etc) is special order and takes 3-5 weeks to arrive to our company from the manufacturer. If you take into account the factory and shipping delays due to the holidays in November, December and January, the glass arrived in the allocated lead time. The customer’s storm door glass arrived to us the second week in January and was install January 16, 2009. That install completed the customer’s job in its entirety. We did and do apologize for inconvienences we caused our customer. Lorna Fitts Windows Office Manager

Everything went very well. They're the only company I've ever used for garage door needs. They've always had good grades and they always offer coupons. I got great service. I called on Monday morning and they were here within a couple of hours. The gentleman also set my car to where I can open my garage from my car. He was very kind, courteous, and treated my house with respect. Everything went smoothly.
Description of Work: We needed a new garage door opener and keypad. The gentleman wanted to fix it but it was 15 years old and the company that made the garage door no longer made the parts. The keypad that we had put in 2 years ago only went with the garage door that we had, therefore we needed that replaced as well.

I started having problems with the garage door on Wednesday, called the company late Thursday afternoon and set up and appointment for Friday. The company called me Friday morning to give me a time span (10:00-2:00) when the technician would arrive and then he called me when he was on his way. He was here and had completed the work before noon. He was very personable and professional and called my attention to a coupon in the yellow pages I could have used before I told him I was a member of Angie's List. I've used this company successfully in the past and would use them again.

Thought I canceled service with Garage Doors of Greenwood, Indianapolis or whatever.
Description of Work: Contacted Garage Doors of Greenwood, which is actually Garage Doors of Indianapolis about a broken spring on my garage door. Conatacted them about 4:30 pm on 03/26/2010, was asked if I could hold, replied yes and was cut off. Recalled as accidents happen, and got some woman, requested service 03/27/2010 am and was told that would be no problem. I was to receive a call Saturday morning to tell me when they would arrive and then get a call 30 minutes prior to their arrival. Not sure why I need all the phone calls. Saturday morning I received a phone call stating that they would be there between 1:00 pm and 4:00pm. This was not acceptiable, and requested Sunday service, when they called back they started talking about additional fees and I again stated that this was unacceptiable and canceled the service. The big problem is that I scheduled service with another company who appears to be yet Garage Doors of Indianapolis. Just how many names does this company have?

I called this company when my garage door "self-destructed" on a Saturday. I was told a technician would call me soon to schedule a time to come out and take a look. Hours later, when I was getting ready to leave I called them back, since I had gotten no call. They apologized and aid a technician would call to set up an appointment. When I walked out to leave 5 minutes later a technician was already here! I couldn't stay to talk with him, but he said the door was beyond repair and a salesperson would call to setup an appoinntment. Meanwhile, I had the tech look at a malfunctioning light socket on the garage door opener. He said it was simple to replace, but he didn't carry the part. He would call the sale office and tell them they should schedule this and do it at no charge for my inconenience. The sales person came out later and knew nothing about the N/C light socket. He said he would call the technician and get back to me. Today, the installer comes out to replace my door. He also knows nothing about the light. I called their office and they said they would call the technician. Hours later, STILL no call back. I call the office again and talk to the manager. He called the sales rep and, yes, the sales rep had forgotten to call anyone about the light. So, he is oging to comeout this evening to fix it. 30 minutes later a technician shows up at my door to replace it! He give me a bill for the part... not No Charge! I called back AGAIN to the office and the Service Manager deleted the charge. So, overall, the work was done and I did not pay for it. But, it took multiple repeat phone calls on my part to get it resolved. Very inconvenient and bad communication.

It has been several weeks and I have received two bills, but no warranty information, serial number or model number. He never apologized, he was indignant. He acted like I was in the wrong for even questioning him, yet he tried to pull a fast one on me. If something goes wrong with this door, I am up a creek. There is nothing on the door, it?s completely unmarked. I have nothing in my possession to prove that this door is what they say it is. I never dreamed that two months later I still wouldn?t have the information I requested and I all I would have was half of a brochure with Amar circled. It has been over 6 weeks since the work was completed, I have received 4 bills but no information on what was installed. They finally resolved this issue on February 1, 2010 they mailed me an invoice with the warranty.
Description of Work: I ordered a garage door over the phone, I didn’t have a salesman, which I didn’t think would be a problem. I did research on the product and knew exactly what I wanted. I ordered a Wayne Dalton door. I talked with a lady named Prussia. I told her exactly what I wanted and she said they had it all. They sent out a guy to measure to make sure the fit would be right. They showed up a week later, but with a door that was in an unmarked box. When I asked what the door was, he said they were out of Wayne Dalton. I called the manager, Ron at the W. 96th store. I asked him what was up, because I wasn’t going to let them put in a door I had no clue of what it was. After talking to him for quite some time, I finally decided to go ahead with this door, but only because he said he would send me all of the information for it.
