We contacted them on a Wednesday and they came on the first day that we were free, which was the following Monday. They called about 8:00 to say they would be there between 9:00 and 11:00, and they arrived a little after 9:00. There was only one man and he was efficient and pleasant. The work was done quickly and we have new openers, keypad and entry keys. The code was not changed.
Description of Work: Installed a new motor for our garage door opener.

I received in the mail a bill for $99. I called the office and asked to speak to the manager. A very rude individual spoke to me stating I was quoted a price for the service call. I advised him that I was not quoted a price and I still had the same problem. Also that I had an coupon that I wanted to use for $20, and he said, just deduct it from the invoice and send it in with payment. He stated with the price of gas he could not send someone out without a charge. I understand that - but I would as least expect the problem to be repaired.
Description of Work: The garage door was not running up and down smoothly. A service man came and said perhaps it needed oil. He was here less than 10 minutes. He said I probably would not be a charge because the door was fairly new and the door had been purchased from them. No paper work was given to me or signed by me. I do not know what service he performed.

Dear Member, I did procure the documentation we have on file for our visit in July and spoke with the technician who was at your home. Unfortunately, with the visit occurring 3 months prior to the report, he was unable to provide me with any particulars of the conversation you had or even his visit to your home, as it is customary for our technicians to visit with 5-10 clients per day. I can tell you that we did install your door on July 7, 2009, which would put the installation outside the industry standard one year warranty that is provided with the product. It does seem, based on your comments, that we should have done a better job of relaying the installation date of the product and outlining any potential charges prior to arrival. I am sorry for any inconvenience we caused you and hope to have an opportunity to better serve you in the future. Corey Frost VP Operations

It broke on a Friday afternoon. We started calling a couple of companies just researching price, getting basic information and trying to find out if they would be available to come out that afternoon. We called them in the afternoon by 2:00 and they were out here by 3:30. They were punctual. They did what they said they were going to do. They didn’t really know what the specific problem was because I wasn’t sure what had happened. Overall, the job went very well. It was $187 for the service call and for the parts. Their price was about the same as everybody else. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

I called them on Friday night and told him it was an emergency. I told him we wanted someone out the next day so the guy came out and got everything taken care off. It went just fine and we were real happy with it. However since then I haven't yet contacted them because one of the parts they replaced failed again. We were happy with their responsiveness and how quickly they got us out of the situation where my wife and I were gone for a wedding. Everything went smoothly and we were happy with the service. I thought their price was a little salty but again they got out to us promptly. Though there's a part gone bad I anticipate they'll stand behind their warranty.

Within a week the door wouldn’t go up or down. I saw that the technician had circled service warranty of 90 days so I called them. They came out and charged me for the second service call claiming that the problem was with the sensor and that I must have bumped it. I think they must have because it was working fine before they fixed the cable. Nobody warned me there would be a fee if they didn’t deem the work related to what they did. They just sent the guy out and charged me. I want to warn people to beware of what their service warranties mean.

The salesman that came out to my house listened to me and provided me with the best option. He did not try and sell me a more expensive door or more parts than I needed. On the day of the installation, the installer was early and installed the door without incident. The price was lower than I thought. They have coupons listed on Coupons4Indy that are super helpful as well. I could not have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend Garage Doors of Indianapolis to anyone needing garage door service.

I recently purchased an MI home that had two doors installed by Garage Doors of Indianapolis. Neither door opened or closed well when the house as purchased. Indeed one door would not operate at all with the opener that I had installed. I called MI for warranty repair and they called Garage Door. A technician arrived late one cold windy afternoon. He chastised me for not having Garage Door install the opener. I had no notion they had even installed the door until the technician mentioned it. He did show me a 3 inch by 4 inch sticker on one door with their name on it and a phone number for 24 hour repair. He worked on the door rollers for a while and made it better, but still not great. He said that was about all he could do. I was freezing so I let him go. The door never did operate well and since it was a secondary door we didn’t use it often. Well last night my wife opened the door and when she tried to close it, it stopped. One of the cables had come off the pulley and wrapped around the axel until it seized. The opener continued to try to close the door and eventually bent the top panel severely. I called Garage Door and they said for warranty repairs, I would need to wait until the next morning to speak with a specific individual. A message was left for her to call me first thing today. I disconnected the cables so the door could be closed. At about 10:00AM I called back and the necessary person was not there. She did call me at about 11:00 and informed me since I had installed the opener, the warranty on the door was void. Where did that come from? There was never any documentation of this policy; not even a verbal warning. And it is a good thing it wasn’t an emergency. I have since disassembled the door mechanism and I am convinced the cable was never installed correctly. I have reinstalled it and it worked better than ever! However, the top panel remains damaged. They should be responsible for their error. Update after additionanl work: MI Homes came to rescue and either convinced Garage Doors to stand behind their product or agreed to pay for the repairs. The technician arrived on time. He was courteous and seemed prepared. However, he told me of an issue I found remarkable. That is, he stated the garage door opener rail should be attached to the garage header within 2 inches of the spring axel. He said that may have contributed to the damage. He also said I had no way of knowing this as it is not included in the door paperwork (which I didn’t receive) and they (Garage Doors) don’t tell anyone. What? And they have the gall to say owner installed openers void the warranty? I also noticed there were six lag bolts holding the opener bracket to the door. There were three different sizes; one of which was so long it had pierced both sides of the panel. No doubt this also contributed to the damage. Much to me surprise, he used the same six bolts and, yes the long one went clear through. If this panel fails, I bet they won’t own up to this error, either.

Response from Garage Doors of Indianapolis
We did install the doors at [This Member's] residence for MI Homes on July 21, 2010. We were called out for a warranty service on January 12, 2011 for a problem with the doors. [This Member] stated that the doors were very tight and had a lot of trouble running in the up direction. We corrected the issue, [This Member] signed off that the work had been completed to his satisfaction. We received a message on April 27, 2011 from [This Member] letting us know that he had an ongoing problem with his doors which led to a damaged top panel. [This Member] feels it was our error that he did not notify us that the door had been having issues since our visit in January and therefore we should be responsible for the subsequent damage occurring over 3 months later. We strive to take care of any issues our customers are facing with our products or their installation; however I feel it is unfair to hold us accountable under these circumstances. We were quick to respond to the member’s concerns in January and would have been equally responsive there after had we been notified that the door was not working to his satisfaction prior to the top panel’s recent failure. I am sorry the member experienced an inconvenience from our products, but unless we are made aware of the problem, we cannot correct it. Garage Doors of Indianapolis provides all warranty documentation and specifications to MI Homes at the time of installation of any of our products. We must rely on MI Homes to pass that information on to the new homeowner at the time of closing. Corey Frost

The spring above our garage door broke and we called several locations for estimates and time. They were one of two companies that could make it out the same day which was a bonus because a car was trapped in the garage. After a $20 coupon from coupons4indy, they were still about $35 higher than the other company we considered but based on Angie's list feedback, we did not choose the other company. I suspect this repair is an every day occurance for them so it was a very straight forward service call that took them less than 30 minutes and I had a price quote before they were dispatched. The only, very small issue was that the tech called to say he was 15 to 30 minutes out and showed up 1hour and 15 minutes later. Since the spring broke at 2, we called at 3 and they were at our door by 6, I can't complain. Oh yeah, the ding from A to B on professionalism is because they had to come through the house (the garage door wouldn't open) and they came through with work boots. Not an impact to our house but to earn an A, they should put covers on their boots at the front door...just my 2 cents. Time will tell on quality but so far, so good. Thanks for the hard work and great service.

One of my torsion springs broke on my garage door when I left to go to the grocery store on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30 pm. I was not able to get back into the garage when I pulled up to the door. I called for service and the person answering the phone told me she would contact a technician and get back to me. The operator phoned back within a hour and told me a technician would be there within 30 minutes. The tech arrived within 10 minutes. He asked me if I broke a spring and if I wanted to replace one or two. I told him since both were the same age lets replace both of them. He stated that this was a smart move since the service labor and call was the most expensive part of the service. The tech was very professionally dressed, spoke well, and very knowledgeable. He had the job finished in about 30 minutes.

On the evening of 2-9-2011 one of two torsions springs above our garage door broke. The next day, we called Garage Doors of Indianapolis for a quote to replace both springs. After calling a second company to confirm a decent price was being quoted, we contacted GDI and they scheduled the work for the same day. James showed up during the promised time slot. He was very courteous and got the work done quickly and professionally. We even received a lifetime warranty on the springs.

The original installation was fine except they were short one of the parts on the order and had to return. Upon using the door installed I realized it was on the wrong side of the opening. They agree to change that when they returned with the missing part. When they returned, they were not prepared to move the door and had to return again. They moved things around and isntalled the missing item. After that the door never worked right and it took several more trips to get it corrected. In the end the door works great, and one of the managers called to apologize for the problem and offer a free service call the next time we need service on any of our garage doors.

My garage door was off track and they were unable to remedy the situation. They sent 3 different repairmen out in a span of 2 weeks and they all gave me a different opinion or estimate. I was able to use a different company that fixed the problem very efficiently for a great price. if you need basic service or garage door installation this is a good company, I have used them in the past for those jobs, but having used this other company I think their prices are a little inflated. If you have a problem thats not an easy fix this is not the company to call.
