Dana worked with me to make 2 custom rings. She worked to find options in my price range. She even ordered the stones and band to let me see them before I committed to the rings.

In late March I was preparing for some minor surgery and the surgeon indicated that I needed to come to surgery without any jewelry. My wedding band had not been off my ring finger for 45 years and could not be removed, so I went to the G.Thrapp Jewelry store where they carefully cut the ring from my finger. They have a tool made just for this, and if anyone wants to know there is no pain, or discomfort in the process of cutting the ring. Having the ring cut in this manner allows for it to be later resized. I had been informed by the surgeon's office, that if they had to remove the ring in the surgery room it would be just snipped off and could likely never be repaired. I was encouraged to return after a month or so to let my finger settle down from being squeezed for the last 45 years. A couple months later, I did return and we decided on a new larger ring size. I discovered after a month that this size was still too tight so I left the ring again and it was resized again, slightly larger. It feels just fine now, fits perfectly and I can remove it when necessary such as the times when working with heavy tools or such. I should also comment that the repair of the ring was absolutely perfect. I doubt that any jeweler could ever look at my ring and see that it had been cut and then repaired. I also left a watch there for repair at the same time. It needed a new crystal, battery, and more and their repair costs were very reasonable. It is always a pleasure to visit this classy home town jewelry store.

Thank you, thank you Dana Friedman! My fiance and I had been looking for wedding bands for months! We had looked all over NYC (where we live currently) and had been to G. Thrapp 3 times (the wedding would be held in Indianapolis). Each time we came in to G. Thrapp, Dana sat with us, listened to what we wanted and what our budget was. She showed us beautiful bands for both bride and groom and explained that anything could be ordered. We took our sweet time making a decision and Dana was always patient and helpful. On our 3rd visit to G. Thrapp we found our perfect bands! It was 3 weeks before the wedding and miraculously Dana found an estate ring for me, the bride, and a cool stainless steel ring for the groom that fit perfectly! We didn't have to order them or have them sized. She even shipped them to us in NYC. The cherry on top was that she found rings that were actually under our budget! Our family has been going to G. Thrapp for years and we were thrilled to get our wedding bands from them. We cannot recommend G. Thrapp and Dana Friedman highly enough! Thank you again!

Dana was absolutely amazing to work with. I had heard stories from my friends of going elsewhere only to find high pressure sales people, who wouldn’t let you walk out the door without making a purchase. This could not be further from my experience at G Thrapp. Everyone at this neighborhood store was a pleasure to deal with. From the very start Dana made it clear that her intention was to help us find something we loved. All that we really knew at that point was that we were looking for something a little less than traditional. She took the time to get to know us a bit, and listened to the rather vague direction we gave, before showing us anything. Once we started looking, it was clear she knew what she was doing. We started as far from traditional as we could then worked our way back. After every ring she showed us she took into account what we did and did not like, then moved on to the next one until we found a ring, a combination of rings actually, that my girlfriend was absolutely taken with. After we found what we wanted, there was absolutely no pressure whatsoever to make a purchase right away. I was in contact with Dana over the next two months, while she did everything she could to find what we wanted, that was also within my modest budget. Throughout this portion of the experience she was only an email, text or phone call away. She kept in great contact, and I truly believe she gave me the absolute best deal that she could. I am horrible at making decisions, any decision small or large takes me a while to process, and I count this purchase amongst one of the bigger decisions I will have made on my own. However, thanks to Dana at G Thrapp, the process was made as painless as it could have been, and I am now one step closer to having someone to help with the rest of life’s big decisions.
Description of Work: I have lived in the Broad Ripple area for the past 4-5 years, and have stopped in at G Thrapp for little things like watch batteries and minor necklace chain repair on occasion. I had always had a pleasant experience for these visits, so naturally, when I began looking for an engagement ring, they were one of the first places I visited, and where I eventually made my final purchase.

The staff member was very courteous and remembered my name/face when I returned. They did excellent work at a fair price. I showed up to pick up the ring at 9:20am even though they did not open until 10:00am. They answered the door, let me in, and allowed me to pick up the ring. I was very happy about that. They were not good at calling me, in fact they never did. I always had to call them to see if the ring/ appraisal was ready. I still have not received the appraisal, but I have not been charged for it either.

They're pretty well known in the area. The setting on my engagement was becoming loose and worn out. I had them evaluate it. They recommended to replace the entire head. We trusted them. They did it fairly quick. It took a few weeks. They kept us updated, and informed about the progress. They gave us an estimate ahead of time.

Mary was extremely knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to work with. Ellen did a fantastic job of creating the ring precisely as it was designed. My overall experience was remarkable, and I would recommend this jeweler to anyone seeking quality service at a good price.
Description of Work: I brought in the necklace my mother had made from her engagement diamond and 2 baguettes to have put into a new engagement ring for my (now) fiance. The woman I worked with, Mary L, helped guide me through the unique experience of conceptualizing the vision of our creation. After a rough sketch had been approved, I set an appointment so that Mary could take time to discuss how best to execute our collaboration with the in-house designer, Ellen. Upon my return, Mary had produced a to-scale replica of my ring-to-be on a sheet of graph paper. The amount of detail really brought the vision into perspective. After the rendering was finalized, I went back to life as usually while I waited for the ring to be crafted. 3 weeks later, I returned to marvel at a true masterpiece. It was even more beautiful than I had previously conceived. It was at this time that I also found my tungsten carbide wedding band. I setup a payment schedule with Mary after receiving duplicates of my appraisal, and ventured forth with my trinket to ask for my lady's hand.

I took my engagement ring in to be appraised last year. The first time (2009) it came back broken (I examined the ring when I dropped it off and no chip was detected, it apparently broke while be cleaned). They offered to sell me a new stone at the retail price. Maybe trying to replace the stone with a wholesale price would have been more appropriate. I took it back to the original designer in NYC to have the gem replaced at a substantial savings (and I know my jeweler in NYC still made money). Last week I brought the ring back to be re-appraised and received it back dirty. How did they appraise the ring without cleaning it? Maybe they were afraid their cleaning machine would break it again. Their explanation was that they were busy with the holidays. While most of the staff treated me in a professional manner, the owner did not. Yes I was mad that they asked me to pay for the second appraisal when my ring came back dirty, but I expected a higher level of service, especially after what happened the first time. I only went back because of the reputation that the store has in Indianapolis and assumed this was a one time mistake.

Response from G Thrapp Jewelers
We strive to offer excellent service to each and every customer. We pride ourselves on great care and attention to detail as we examine each piece of jewelry when we clean it. Our equipment allows us to inspect each piece of jewelry by hand in much finer detail than what can be seen with the naked eye. Often times, small damaged stones are not detectable until dirt is cleaned away from a piece of jewelry. We are very sorry for your experience in the store. We are sorry that we had to be the ones to tell you the stone was damaged. It is our policy to charge for appraisals. We hope you give us another try.

When I inquired on the high price, they went into detail about how much work the rings needed. Re-shanking, rebuilding the top, etc. This high estimate matched a pattern I found when talking to others about my experience. When I surprised them and showed up to pick up the rings for a second opinion, they quickly dropped $125 off the estimate, which only confirmed my suspicion that they were severely overcharging. I took the rings to a reputable jeweler and they couldn't understand why Thrapp's had tried to charge so much, especially for work they didn't feel was necessary. They estimated $220 and surprised me when I picked it up by only charging $180. The price was fair and the work was beautiful, I am done with G. Trapps.
Description of Work: My wife took her engagement and wedding rings (both originally purchased there approx 10 yrs earlier) to Thrapp's for a small repair, resizing and cleaning. After a couple of weeks, the estimate came back to $750!

Their employees took time from an obviously busy schedule to discuss our project with us, explain the processes, and look for alternatives that might work. When we told them our budget wouldn't allow us to proceed, they were very gracious and thanked us for considering them. Delightful people to work with!
Description of Work: We had two heirloom jewelry pieces which we wanted to combine into rings, and we brought them to G. Thrapp for suggestions, design, and an estimate. Alas, we found it costs too much to do what we had in mind (at least for now), but we very much appreciate the time and courtesy afforded us by Mark Hill, their studio manager. When we can afford to proceed, we'll bring the project to G. Thrapp.

It went very well. I was greeted by two people upon entering the store, which is a lovely store with exquisite jewelry. Very friendly people. A pleasant experience.
Description of Work: I had emailed G Thrapp to see if they could do an appraisal on a very old coral necklace of my mother's. I took the necklace in to leave for the appraiser but after a short examination by a salesperson, she took it to Gary (the G of G Thrapp). A few minutes later she returned and said that the necklace would only appraise for $50-$75 but I could still get an appraisal for $35 if I wanted to. I chose not to get the appraisal. There was no charge for their advice and the nice lady even gave me a little velveteen pouch for the necklace.

I brought in a bracelet to have inscribed. I needed them to match the font on the inside and with the outside. Emily had mispelled one of the words on the inside and we sent it back. When I first went in the store I was immediately impressed with the atmosphere. I was pleasantly greeted and told if I needed any help to just let someone know. It was nice to not be pressured the minute I walked in like most jewelry stores. When I found what I wanted to look at Carol spent over an hour with me answering all my questions and showing me lots of different options. Her knowledge of diamonds and fine jewelry was amazing. She made notes for me to keep so that I would remember exactly what I wanted. We will definitely be purchasing our rings from there soon. They also offer jewelry cleaning and repair and sell several different lines of top quality brands of jewelry and small wedding gifts.

We were very happy with the level of service we received here. I felt like we received more personalized attention than at any larger chain store, even though we could have gotten similar products at around the same price. Dana is the salesperson we have dealt with the most and she always remembers us and has a great attitude. We did run into some complications with receiving my wedding band. My husband's band came in about a month before the wedding but mine had still not arrived 2 weeks before. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Gina because I was very worried it wouldn't arrive on time and since our wedding was out of town we needed it 5 days early. I was very nervous for a while because they had to drop ship it to our hotel out of town. They did loan us a similar band at no charge just in case it didn't arrive in time (but I really wanted my band for photos and everything). The band arrived at the hotel 2 days before the wedding. I guess it was an issue with the manufacturer overseas, I'm still not completely sure but I was just happy it got there in time. Gina kept me informed during the whole ordeal and was very helpful. A few months after the wedding I noticed that a stone had fallen out of the band. They replaced it at no charge and tightened all of the settings. Almost a year later I've had no other problems. They did good work on the other jewelry repairs we took in as well. I think it was about $40 for the cuff link and bracelet repair. Despite the issues with my band initially, what continues to impress me about this store is the people there. I'm greeted by a friendly face every time I go in. They always offer to clean my rings while I'm waiting. And I never feel pressured to buy things or spend more than I'm comfortable with.
Description of Work: My husband and I bought our wedding bands here. After the wedding we also had repair work done on a cuff link and bracelet that broke during the wedding. They also replaced a stone that fell out of my band several months later (no charge).
