Wow - what a great company! Larry came out to do the quote and was such a nice man. They were able to work me in very quickly as my job was so small. On the day of the work Larry, his Project Manager Walter and the Painter Walter showed up to walk through what I wanted. Walter (the painter) did a wonderful job the room looks great. Walter (the PM) came at the end of the job did a walk through and made sure I was satisfied with the work. I was amazed at the attention to customer service for such a small job. I would highly recommend Five Star for any painting needs you have, I know I will be using them again.

I originally painted the entire interior of my house, I've painted for years and am a decent painter. Well, I don't have as much time as I used to have, so I decided to bring in an outside contractor to paint a few rooms in our house. We contacted Larry at Five Star Painting and he came over within a few days to discuss and measure the rooms we wanted done. He then had his color consultant come in as we weren't quite sure what shade we wanted (It was to be a pink baby girl's room) and once we had decided on the color we set a date and were ready to go.Larry showed up promptly when he said he would, and the job was well done. So well done in fact that we have had them back to paint multiple rooms (including a 2 story wall in a stairwell and an entryway) and every time they have done a great job. We're getting ready for more painting work and I will be contacting Larry to do it. His workers are great and they always make sure we are happy before signing off on the job.
Description of Work: We had multiple rooms requiring the walls, ceilings, and trim painted. We also had a stairwell and an entryway painted as well.

The painting crew were very courteous and professional. The quality of the work was excellent and exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: Larry Harkleroad, the owner provided an estimate about 2 weeks before the date of service for a group of interior painting jobs at our home. We decided to paint one of the areas that was listed in the estimate. He was very prompt in providing an estimate and very professional. On the date of service, the painting crew arrived promptly at 8am with Larry and we went through the final details of the interior painting job. The painting job was completed in about 6-7 hours --which was reasonable considering the complexity involved in painting our foyer and staircase.

I hired Five Star Painting to paint entry way, great room and hallway. The ceilings are 17' high so I did not feel like tackling this myself. Every step of the process was handled perfectly. I received quotes from a couple of other people and while Five Star Painting wasn't the cheapest, their process and professionalism gave me the confidence that they knew what they were talking about. I felt comfortable moving forward with them and I am glad I did. The project manager and painters on the job reflected the professionalism through the quote process. They completed the job to my satisfaction and early. Who can ask for more? I have a basement that needs to be painted sometime in the future and Five Star will be my first call.

In a word: flawless. This company was an absolute pleasure to deal with, and we couldn't be happier with their work. They were extremely responsive, and Larry was extraordinarily professional and personable. He was able to provide us with a rough estimate based on the initial information we provided, and then scheduled a time to come out for a more accurate estimate. He arrived on time and really went out of his way to ask questions, offer suggestions, and listen to what we wanted. He took thorough notes and gave us some helpful information about his company (including the employee code of conduct, and many references). The estimate came in lower than the other estimates we received, but we were so impressed by Larry's professionalism and the quality of his references that we had already made up our mind to go with Five Star Painting. They were able to squeeze us into the schedule quickly, and on the day of the project we were introduced to the job foreman and the crew. They went over everything that we wanted done, and made sure we were all on the same page. The prep work they did was amazing--they took the time to mask and cover everything expertly, which helped make the finished product so much neater. The crew was very polite and they worked hard. When they were finished, Larry and the job foreman walked around to make sure I was happy with everything. I was more than happy--their work was meticulous, and everything looked perfect. Between the quality of the work, and Larry's infinite professionalism, I can't imagine using another company for any kind of painting job in the future. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a perfect paint job, big or small!
Description of Work: We hired Five Star Painting to paint our living room, a stairwell, and to paint an untreated brick fireplace wall. They patched all of the holes in the walls, moved the furniture, primed the walls, sealed and primed the brick, painted the side lights on both sides of the front door, and painted the fireplace trim.

Called a few painters to take care of a basement that was badly in need of wall and floor paint. Five Star's owner, Larry, responded promptly, quoted waterproof paint and floor paint, responded quickly and gave us a fair price. We accepted his quote. He sent a color specialist to help my spouse choose wall and floor colors. We scheduled, they showed up on time with a professional crew of thee painters. They worked half a day on prep and 1.5 days on painting. The work exceeded every expectation. Wall patching, paint coverage, and attention to detail were all stellar. They happily fixed a few minor issues at the ending walk-through. It was a pleasure to do business with Five Star Painting.

After calling for an estimate, Larry, the owner came the next business day to give the estimate. Not only was the estimate lower than the other 2 companies that I called, but his presentation of his company and the way he described how the work was to be completed was more professional. Two painters took 1 day to complete the job. Four people, the owner, the supervisor, and the 2 painters arrived promptly at the scheduled time. After the owner explained the job to his employees, he left. The supervisor also left as he was in charge of 3 jobs that day.The supervisor was in contact with my painters by phone. He returned at the end of the job to critique the painting. Although I found a couple of areas that need some additional attention, the painters cheerfully redid the areas. I was very pleased and would rehire them if I have a need.

Was selliing my house to relocate and I needed quick service and a good price since I was on a budget. The estimators came out, surveyed the work and provided a quote within a few hours. The quote was very detailed and right on budget. They were both professional and friendly. The work crews that were sent out, were prompt and worked around my schedule. They cleaned up at the end of each day which is not what I had with other contractors. Once the project was completed, Michael followed up and made sure I was pleased with everything. Five Star Painting made the project easy and enjoyable. They even hauled off old paint that I used when I moved in. I would use this company again.. especially if I could have the same crew.

While the quality of their painting job was fine, I have four concerns with this company, with the fourth noted below being my biggest concern by far. These concerns are the basis of my not recommending this company to others. 1. From the onset of our conversations with this company, they kept urging us to do two coats of paint, when our desire from the beginning was to do one coat of paint. This struck me as pushy, and not respecting the customer's wishes. 2. When they began their painting job, my mother (who was overseeing this as she has had a lot of experience through having built four houses and having owned rental property) noticed that they were dipping the brush at the top surface of the can without stirring the can at all (and therefore deliberately putting a thin coat of paint)! It seems that they were intentionally forcing me to come back and ask for a second coat of paint. My mother stirred the can in front of the supervisor, applied some paint to the wall, and showed that this simple action produced a *real* single coat of paint. From then on, the company did a much more authentic single coat. 3. The next morning, the owner (Larry Harkleroad) asked to meet my mother and me, and (based on what had happened the day before) said that he was inclined to end the project then and there. He was ticked off, cranky, and prideful. My mother showed him the difference between the thin coat and the real coat, and calmly reiterated our expectations. It was primarily because I was in a bind to get the project done that we decided to proceed ahead with this company. 4. My biggest concern with this company is that their workers, likely through using inadequate protection under their ladders, damaged my immaculate bamboo flooring. I raised my concerns about the dents to Larry Harkleroad in a detailed email, and asked him to address these dents. (Note that these dents could not have been attributed to anyone else; my real estate agent and I both observed that there were no dents in the flooring when I walked through the condo before moving in, we had no other contractor work done before Five Star Painting, and I had purchased no furniture other than a mattress set that was already on the master bedroom carpet before Five Star Painting started their project.) Rather than even remotely accepting responsibility, Larry Harkleroad turned the situation around and made some insulting accusations to me (noted below). Larry did send over his deputy to look at the dents, who acknowledged that there were dents. Furthermore, our realtor sent a letter to Larry to confirm that there were no dents in the bamboo flooring prior to the start of the painting. Larry simply absolved his company of any possible responsibility without bothering to investigate the dents/gouges himself. I find that to be irresponsible and arrogant business practice. As though that were not enough, he went a step further by challenging my integrity, by stating that we were asking him to commit "insurance fraud". And when I conveyed to him that I would likely not give him a top rating on Angie's List if he didn't take my concerns about the dents seriously, instead of appreciating my frankness he had the audacity to say that withholding a top rating pending resolution of our legitimate concerns "sounds a bit like blackmail." The irony of his attacking my character was that Five Star Painting, upon the completion of their painting job, miscalculated its costs, and I was the one who had the decency and honesty to tell Larry's deputy that his company had done its math wrong and was undercharging us. When a business provides a service, it does not constitute simply the execution of the service, but it is the whole package -- from the moment that a call is made by a prospective client to proper resolution of concerns raised in the execution of the service. Five Star Painting doesn't meet this standard.
Description of Work: Company provided one coat of paint to interior of one bedroom condo. In the process of painting the interior, the painters made some permanent indentations in my bamboo flooring. Owner Larry Harkleroad refused to do anything about the damage, absolved himself of any responsibility, and wrote a nasty reply (see more details below) when I raised my concerns with him.

Response from Five Star Painting of Indianapolis
I have seriously reviewed the member's concerns. Unfortunately, I could not take responsibility for the imperfections, dents or gouges that the are of issue. These marks were discovered after the job was complete, and the client were moved in and his mother was cleaning the floors. It is highly unlikely that there would be no wear and tear on the floors, as they were lived on by the previous owners. Both ladders are not heavy ladders, as they are aluminum, with rubber feet. We, carefully, had the wood floors covered with canvas drop cloths, at all times. He was very careful to check everything that we did the entire time we did work in the condominium. For the realtor to say that he is not aware of the imperfections could be understandable. However, it would be impossible for anyone to be sure that the dent in question were there prior. Again, the client had in fact moved in to the residence after our work was complete. There are too many scenarios that could have occurred to create the gouges. I would not expect my insurance company to pay for something that we did not due, or that is being speculated the we did. That would be insurance fraud. The customer, basically, expected us to turn this claim in, which would be insurance fraud. As far as the one/two coat issue; the customer contracted to paint the condominium one coat with the same color existing color. Upon approving the final color, it changed to a definite color change, rather than the existing color. A definite color change, usually, requires two coats to obtain a true color definition. We still worked at making the color change an acceptable finish product, despite the added time to try to achieve a one coat finish. The condominium looked nice and the owner was happy with the finished result. In my opinion the finish would have been more definite in uniformity and color depth, if the second coat would have been done. Yes, we did encourage two coats if the customer was going to make a definite color change. Unfortunately, upon painting for the first day, the customer determined that we were not applying the product at the maximum thickness possible to obtain one coat. If any paint manufacturer were to evaluate the expectations that was put upon there product, they would agree that a color change requires two coats to provide the performance and end result that most customers expect. For one coat ( with a lot of added work) the finished product looked acceptable. Most customers would not have found the finished product to be the maximum result that could have been achieved with the second coat. This is an unfortunate situation. I would hope that all prospects would see this as it is. I would encourage potential customers to review all of our reviews and a stark difference will be clear. In addition to our A rating with Angie's List; we are A rated with Service Magic Pro and an Accredited Business with the Better Business Bureau having not complaints or issues with them. Thank you for your time in reading this response. Larry Harkleroad Five Star Painting Owner/Operator

Though they were a littler higher in price than the 2 other quotes. I chose Five Star, because of the information provided, methods used, paint types etc. It showed their experience and knowledge. Great job ! Also, workers cleaned up daily before they left. The supervisor, came daily to check on progress and quality. They also gave a 2 year warranty, not like the other companies/
