+ -1 moreI was supposed to receive it back within a month's time. One day I called to get the status of the lamp repairs and shade restoration. The people at Exciting Liting advised me they could not find it and would give me a return call in a few days. During that time I went on vacation, when I got back, I gave them a follow up call. At this point I was advised there was no paperwork, no lamp, no shade. It was gone. They wanted to give me a replacement lamp and shade to cover their losing the lamp from my family member. I would not take another lamp there.
Description of Work: I took a family heirloom oil lamp and its' shade to Exciting Liting.

They were courteous, knowledgeable, and really responsible. They absolutely took care of it. I would absolutely use them in the future.

+ -1 moreThey have the worst customer services I have ever seen. I was there two days ago and it was so bad I left. I went back today it was equally as bad. There were three people there and no customers and it took 10 minutues before someone acknowledged I was there. They are not very customer service orientated. They had brand new shipment of lamp shades in the back that had not been priced yet and they would not look through them to check if they had the size that I needed. I feel as if the owners and employees have absolutely no interest in being there.
Description of Work: Retail store that sales lamps, lamp shades and lamp part.

+ -1 moreTook chandelier in for evaluation. The man acted irritated that he would have to work on it on his own time and kept saying how expensive it was going to be. I almost left the store with it for another store that would act like they appreciated my business. I heard nothing from them for three weeks. I went into the store and they had done nothing. I was agitated because they had not called me or indicated there were other problems. The man was irritated that I was irritated after having waited for three weeks. A lady named Carol came over and took over the project. She was very friendly and seemed very confident that she could get this situation under control and completed. She gave me her card and she said she would keep me informed. She called me upon completion and the chandelier is beautiful. Job well done Carol. If it wasn't for you I would have rated Exciting Lighting an F across the board.

+ -1 moreThey are so friendly and helpful! A lady (Carol, I think) took over and showed me everything I needed. They also have the and quot;large baseand quot; light bulbs (found in older lamps, I guess), but they're almost impossible to find. I was going to replace my grandmother's lamp because of this issue, but they assured me that they have plenty of these bulbs. Fabulous! And they have the most fascinating inventory. It'd be easy to spend some real cash in there. They're just first rate folks.
Description of Work: helped "restore" an old lamp, new "bowl" to hold the shade, new shade, a little screw that was missing and she gave me a finial!

+ -1 moreThe electrical switch was replaced. I was glad I had the time to make three trips get the lamp corrected.
Description of Work: Needed electrical switch replaced in a previously converted oil lamp. After getting it home I noticed the cord was threaded through the front of the base instead of the back, where there is a designated spot. Took it back, and it was corrected promptly, but when I got home I noticed the shade base was not placed back on the lamp. Called and returned to the store to pick it up.

+ -1 moreIt went well. I felt it too presumptuous to ask if those repairs would be done on an and quot;as you waitand quot; basis but this one could have been. I think an hour after I dropped it off, I received a call notifying me that it was ready. Initially, I considered Indiana Lighting on 38th but the one week plus turnaround time was discouraging so I was pleased to have and quot;one hourand quot; turnaround essentially.
Description of Work: I had a porcelain 3w socket replaced on an antique lamp.

Description of Work: I have used Exciting Lighting for numerous lamp repairs and the purchase of lamp shades. All the employees are very willing to provide their service. I took a second hand crystal and brass floor lamp in to be evaluated and determine what my options were - the base was in need of replacement or repair. I decided the most cost effective option was to have the brass base painted. I was called and told the base was painted and when the lamp was being assembled one of the sections of glass broke. They were very sorry for the accident. I told them maybe the area was cracked and they were not at fault . They encouraged me to come in to determine what should be done to continue with the repair. I was presented with several options to repair the lamp. Carol suggested to use a crystal lamp the store owned to replace the crystal that was broken. That was the option I thought would be the easiest and the result was fantastic. The crystal from the lamp the store owned matched perfectly. I offered to pay for their repair and painting of the base but they insisted it was an accident and they felt responsible . They are wonderful. The lamp looks great thanks to them.

Description of Work: I needed a lamp repaired rather quickly. It wasromised for a specific day, and in fact the repair was completed prior to the day. The cost was very reasonable. They have a huge selection of light bulbs, lots of specialty sizes and types. They also have a great line of uniques lamps in all price ranges. The staff was courteous, helpful, offered alternatives whenI wanted to stay within a certain price range.

+ -1 moreOverall the repair service was incredibly fast. My shopping experience for shades there was a little difficult because of my need to have 2 of each item I selected. Not their fault. The sales woman was incredibly patient with me. That was greatly appreciated.
Description of Work: I had 4 antique lamps that they rewired and changed the need of two separate light bulbs to one in each lamp. They also were reduced in height by removing unnecessary metal. The cost of the parts and labor for the 4 lamps was 71.00 dollars. I thought that this was excellent. The work was very well done. They have a very large collection of lamp shades that are priced quite high. After seeing the importance of placing a desired shade on the lamp to see if it not only fit but looked nice, I decided to purchase the shades there. That is what increased my bill to the above number. If I had researched lamp shades prior to buying these, I could have saved a lot of money by going elsewhere. Several weeks later I had gone to Lowe's and found very similar shades at a much lower price. I lowered the rating in this category to B only because of the cost of the shades, not the repair.The other issue regarding shades is that I had to have 2 of each shade that I purchased. This was difficult to accomplish. Many of my choices that I originally made they did not have 2 of. After a long hunt for the perfect shade, I found a pair that I wanted to purchase. One of them was found to be slightly damaged when we tried it on the lamp. They sent it home with me, with the promise that a replacement would be ordered and I would be called when it arrives. The sales woman said that it would take possibly several months. As of today, I have not heard from them, but again she said several months.

+ -1 moreThey gave me two to try out--one was white. Just in the way that they helped worked out quickly and efficiently. She knew what I was talking about the whole time. She said she didn’t have an ivory shade in right away, but in 2-3 weeks they would have one in. She said that even if we had to remove the plastic to make the shade work, that would work okay. So, she was very accommodating. We actually ended up keeping the white because we liked it better. So we don’t need to wait for the other to come, and she really didn’t need to extend that service to get in the ivory one. They really do have a wide variety of shades. They do lamp repair as well, and sell lamps too.
Description of Work: They have a wide variety of lighting. I had to get a new lamp shade. The one we had on a small lamp basically fell apart. It was about ten years old, and the fabric was deteriorating.

+ 0 moreThey were very prompt, friendly, and professional in checking my lamp in. It was ready within 4 days, even though they'd estimated a week for the repair. We are so happy to be able to use this lamp again, as it has been in the family for many years. Considering the price of new lamps, the repair price was extremely modest. Their store is beautiful and full of any kind of lampshade one could imagine, and they also have a very wide selection of lamps. I encourage everyone to check them out for anything concerning lamps and lighting! We will be returning for two more repairs and at least 2 shades.
Description of Work: I was referred to Exciting Liting by a close friend, and then checked them out on Angie's List. They rewired an old favorite lamp and installed a 3-way socket in it.

I asked Carol for some helpful pointers in cleaning and polishing the brass and she was happy to help with that too. My shade was marked down in price by $20-good news for me! However, the specialty light bulb (mogul base) was $11.95, which was not so great news. Overall, I was very please with this company.

I was just thrilled. It was even on sale which made me happier. The tax was included in the price of the lampshade. I went there, but they waited on me as soon as they were able to. They were very professional. My overall experience was very good and I would go there again.

+ -1 moreIt went fine, I took them in expecting to leave them for a couple of days, and they called me later that same day and said they were ready to picked up. I was "totally amazed."
Description of Work: I took in two lamps that I thought needed new wiring. I left the lamps there, and about two hours later said that the "lamps are done." It come to find out that all they needed was new sockets and one needed to be rewired.
