Real Estate Auctions, Antiques, Appraisals - Antiques/Jewelry/Items
About us
EBTH was born out of a passion for antiques, a desire to change the way that they’re discovered, and a commitment to providing sellers with a better alternative for selling their property. EBTH is more personal than any other online auction site and more tech savvy than an auctioneer, consignment shop, or traditional estate sale company. We have a global bidder base that can access each and every sale from the convenience of their computer, phone, or tablet.

I picked up the items sold all together 2 quilts and a tapestry remnant. They were busy and I had to get home. When I looked at my items only one quilt was hand pieced. When you say hand pieced, I take it to mean it is hand made. One quilt was hand pieced together with no backing, which one of the pictures, I could determined as much and have a quilting person that will finish it for me. The other blue checkerboard quilt was not handmade and a sewing machine was used on it and it is definitely not from the 1940s, the fabric prints are too new for 1940s. The woven tapestry remnant had stains on it with a chuck taking out of one edge. I paid a $110.00 for the 3 pieces and I felt I was taken with very little details in the description and few pictures. Here is what the ad said for what I received. I requested from EBTH either that return the items for a full refund or I would like $50.00 taken off of the amount, since the the unfinished quilt I could purchase in an antique shop for $35.00 to 55.00. The sewn quilt is nothing more then dog bedding with stains on it and the tapestry remnant is useless with the stains and chuck out of the edge. Items Details reading: A collection of vintage hand pieced quilts. Included is a star top quilt from 1950 with orange and aqua fabric on a white field. Also featured is a quilt with a nay and white checkerboard design of circa 1940s mini print blocks with blue backing. Condition: Good Dimensions: 21.0" W x 5.0" H x 15.0 D Star 92" x 81", Checkerboard 79" x 68", orand and blue woven wol tapestry fabric remnant 42" x 30". Item # 16IND056-003
Description of Work: I purchased from the Everything But The House EBTH auction from a Brownsburg, Indiana auction. They are falsely advertising or not giving accurate descriptions and enough pictures to show any flaws in auction items.

One of the relationship managers came to a storage unit with me to go through my mother in laws belongings. As we sorted things, I encountered many issues because she said they wouldn't be able to sell alot of the belongings. Soon after they took all the furniture that they would auction out to a warehouse. There was a chair that was worth about $1000 that was overlooked and delivered along with the rest of the furniture. Soon after there were a few items that they called me regarding and told me that I should pick up because they wouldn't sell them. Upon my arrival the company asked if I wanted to donate any items that wouldn't sell and I said I did not. Later when I received the different sales invoices and after they called me to pick up the items that didn't sell , I realized that this expensive chair was not listed and nowhere to be found in the warehouse. I contacted the warehouse and they stated that they had donated it because I took it over and they claimed they had informed me they wouldn't be able to sell it. They claimed it was my responsibility for loading it onto the truck and they are not responsible for the chair. I am very frustrated with this company because they had clear instructions not to donate anything but they donated it anyway. On-top of that they sold my mother in laws items at horribly low prices. I just don't think they have the audience that they claim they have. I have tried to see if there is a way to mediate this situation with the company and they have failed to contact me back.
Description of Work: The provider held an online auction for me. I requested that he auction my mother in laws furniture, art, etc. As payment he would receive 35% of the proceeds.

Response from Everything But The House
I will address several points in this complaint. * We were never notified the chair was at their warehouse and that it would not be sold, and that we would need to pick it up. The seller had these items in storage and delivered to our facility, so it was understood that they knew what was brought to our facility. The EBTH sales representative that signed the contract with the seller had communicated to the seller on more than one occasion that this type of item would not be sold in our showroom sales, which are specifically for high end furnishings, antiques, vintage, original art, collectibles and oddities. This was more of a medical device - an upholstered recliner with a lift mechanism. The item was brought to our facility anyway. Our showroom sale model is not the same as the estate sales we conduct where the majority of the items in the home are listed and sold. This particular item was not itemized on the contract. We did sell a total of 60 items for this seller. * they sold other items at a very low price. All of the items we sell start at $1, and there are no reserves - not even for vehicles or fine art and jewelry. The sale that the majority of this seller's pieces were included in did very well and was considered to be a great success, with many items selling for more than expected. * We would like the chair returned to us in the pristine condition it was in when EBTH received it or $650.00 which is the value we have estimated from all of our research. The chair was donated to a local donation center and cannot be returned. On our site, these types of chairs sell (in an actual estate auction and not a showroom sale on consignment) anywhere from $150 to $500. With the standard 35% commission that we charge, the chair would have had to sell at around $1,000 to bring $650 to the seller. I do agree and apologize that the communication on this was a miss and also that it took much longer than it should to have get the seller the donation slip for tax purposes. The original slip was misplaced and it took some time to acquire a new one. It is my understanding that providing them with that document would be sufficient in resolving this issue, we just did not fulfill that promise in a timely manner. We did get this tax document to the seller the day before this complaint reached the EBTH Indianapolis office. I have asked the sales rep that worked with this seller to reach out in this case. We are constantly working to improve our practices and coordinate sales that are successful for our team, consignors and estate sellers alike. We have to be very particular with what we sell out of our Showroom Sales, and are working to elevate these sales each month.
