Robert showed up to provide a quote and I showed him what I wanted removed. After looking at the work to be performed he quoted me $450. I said I would need to get another quote and that was much more than I had expected. He continued to lower the price even though I said I wanted to get another quote. He lowered his price to $300 and I accepted and told him I would work with him to load it into his truck. He estimated it would take 2 loads to remove and that is what it took. He backed his truck up to each pile and I cut down the branches to smaller size with my clippers and handed up to him so he could pack his truck. About halfway through the first truck load he started hinting that he should get a tip and that his orginal quote of $450 was intended to make "everyone happy". He left to take the first load to the dump and after being gone for about 30 minutes he said he would need to be paid in cash. This meant I needed to make a trip to the bank to get the money. When he arrived back to the house he pulled up in front of the house and started honking and came close to backing his truck into a tree before I came out and stopped him. While he was gone I raked some of the small braches and leaves left over from the first brush pile into a small pile to load into his truck. When I told him I wanted to load it into the truck he said I should have bagged it and that I was adding things to the job. I told him I didn't have any large garbage bags and I didn't see why it shouldn't load up with everything else. He agreed with some complaints. He backed his truck to the next pile and we started to load it. He began to say that this pile was bigger than he thought and that he was going to need more money. I told him that I wish he hadn't agreed to do the work if he was unhappy about it. I told him I had called another tree service company and asked them to provide me a rough quote over the phone about how much it would cost to haul away a brush pile from a cut up apple tree (which was abut the same size as my combined piles) and they said a rough estimate would be $195 to $225. I told him that of course I would not be out there doing the work with them if I had hired another company. We spent about a total of 2 hours loading his truck for the job. I will definately not make this mistake again.
Description of Work: I hired Robert to remove brush piles and several old logs from my property.
