WOW!!!! I cannot say enough good things. It is unfortunately an oddity to find someone that is so skilled, knowledgeable, trustworthy, while keeping cost and reality in mind. We were so lucky to have found Homeworx through Angie's List to begin with. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. He worked in the time frame expected. He explained everything, answered every question, and has a great work ethic. He actually talked me out of doing things I thought seemed important and he didn't think were really necessary. He was the voice of reason and helped make a big process and a lot of decisions not so stressful. It was truly a joy to have him and his team in our home, again with my 4 small kids. He just returned for his 1 year check-up to look at all the work that was done and make sure that everything was working properly. He took time to answer any questions we had and again was thorough. We will absolutely be using Homeworx for ANY HOME ISSUES that we have or want done in the future. This quality of work with a genuine knowledge and heart I didn't think existed anymore!
Description of Work: I initially was having Homeworx come because I had concerns of musty smells coming from our vents. Our home is 2000 square foot ranch built on a crawl space in 1959 and we have owned the home for 10 years at the time of service. I decided to have them do a full home inspection. The owner who does the inspection is exceptional, truly. He is very knowledgeable, very easy to talk to, very honest and kind and does great work....and very trustworthy, he ended up being in our home for over two weeks literally every day with me and my 4 homeschooled young kiddos. He was in our home for the inspection for approximately 6 hours and was so thorough. He looked at EVERYTHING and took pictures of EVERYTHING he saw whether it was a serious problem or just things that were good suggestions on what we could do in the future. He has a great ability in being able to prioritize the issues/ concerns, explain the realistic potential of future issues and provide a variety of solution options. I HIGHLY recommend having an inspection done because there are so many unseen things that can be a problem in the home that you live, sleep, breath and eat in every day. SO, our musty smell (which I honestly thought was going to result in a vent cleaning).........turned out to be mold that was growing in our crawl space DUE TO VERY HIGH HUMIDITY LEVELS (apparently at least 60% or more of the air in crawl ends up in your house) and also mold was present in our master bedroom closets (smell was worst in that room), 2 other closets and another bedroom. In addition, he also found mold growing abundantly underneath our toilets (only seen from crawl space) from slow leaky wax rings (that were put in 7 years ago on a remodel). In addition he found a pipe that had been cut and not capped and for the last 10 years at least (despite having our home inspected when we moved in by someone else.......hmmmmmm?) had been squirting dirty water from my washing machine into my crawlspace. These were the MAJOR issues, in addition many, many smaller but significant issues were discovered like the pipes that were not properly hooked up correctly down below along with some other plumbing issues, electrical issues that were truly unsafe, issues with cracked mortar and grout on our chimney on the roof, caulking issues that were potential water issues, along with many other items like "this would be better/ more effecient, etc....IF....., or in the future when you do this you should be careful of............). The owner put absolutely NO pressure on us in any way to use him for the items that we needed to be corrected. I knew after talking to him I absolutely wanted him to do the work that had to be done. We had some issues to tackle, so HERE IS WHAT WE HAD HOMEWORX DO FOR US. The mold/humidity issue was the most significant and as the owner made clear, it is so important to get to the CORE of the mold issue, not just WIPE away the mold. We had them completely seal off our crawlspace..........what does this mean........after using a mainstream chemical to clean all mold as well as sanding, etc....necessary in some areas for mold removal and removal of mold inside the home (closing off those areas with plastic and pulling air to outside), they painted our entire crawl space with a mold resistant paint, installed a sump-pump and electrical and plumbing to go with it as well as the dehumidifier (that would pump the water into the sump) and laid plastic down in the crawl to help stop all the moisture from coming into the space. We also had to TEAR OUT our bathroom floors completely, get rid of mold and put NEW floors in, we went from laminate to tile. HE DOES EVERYTHING THE RIGHT WAY, no shortcuts but at the same time is very cost-effective minded in giving us our options, PERFECT! The mold removal, sealing of the crawl space and bathroom floors and broken pipe were the main issues. We also had him do a laundry list of small things like, painting, caulking exterior, caulking chimney issues, properly hooking up our condensation pipe for our air conditioner and some other things.
