The Salesman came to my home and was very helpful throughout the process of selection, ordering, measuring, etc. He was knowledgeable and friendly. It was nice to purchase carpet without having to go to a store. The installers arrived on time, moved everything out of the rooms and laid the carpeting. The only complaint I would have is that they kind of threw everything back when they were finished and it took me several hours to get everything back the way it was. For instance they put the bed back together but I later found the bed rails stuck in a closet, so I had to take the box springs and mattress back off the bed to replace them.
Description of Work: Carpet purchased and installed for my great room, hallways and bedroom.

The sales representative called before arriving within his originally scheduled time frame. He listened to us to help determine which product would be best for us. He showed us samples and explained the differences in the carpeting and the carpet pads. The gentlemen that installed the carpeting said that one of the rooms was measured incorrectly and they didnt have enough carpeting for our order. They installed the carpeting in every room except the one room that was measured wrong. The day the final room was to be completed, the installer showed up later than the time frame scheduled and was alone (two installers were supposed to come.) Since only one installer came, it took longer to complete the room than originally estimated. Overall, the installers were very good at what they did. There is one room where there are a lot of seams (due to the odd shape of the room) and they are practically impossible to see!

The crew came in, and were fantastic. It was a big job and they were done in one day. The Hynes Crew is the group that came to install the carpet. They were very friendly and professional. They did a great job.

Carpet installers were on time at 7:30 in the morning. They moved all of my furniture out of all of my living area and installed all carpet in living, dining, stairs, and two bedrooms by 5:30 that evening. The two man crew were careful with my belongings and there were no loose or problem areas with the installation. I got in on a half off sale on the carpet, so I was very happy about that.

The two man crew arrived on time, were neat, clean, and efficient. The upper bath had mold on the floor, so the crew called to let me know rather than tiling over it. This required them to return next day, which they did. The entire job was done very well. All cuts to the tile and quarter round were very well executed.
Description of Work: Laminate tile was installed in both bathrooms and kitchen.

Rather surly installers, did a horrible job on the two steps (you can clearly see the plethora of staples they put in), didn't want to move furniture even though the sales person said that wouldn't be a problem (we had to put it back), broke the glass off a clock without telling us - one of us stepped on a piece and cut her foot, and we then had to clean blood off the brand new carpet.
Description of Work: Install Berber carpet in spare bedroom/office.

The company representative, Jack Hogan, was very polite and professional. He was very knowledgeable about his inventory. Ultimately, I was surprised that Empire didn't have better prices since they advertise themselves as a "wholesale" carpet company. I thought that $2400 was too much money for a partial basement. We are going to go through a home improvement store for our carpet. I did like the fact that carpeting could be installed the very next day!

Between the first and second contract, a policy changed in which they would not put back the toilet in the bathroom that was getting carpeted. They tried to cancel the contract midjob, but eventually told me I would be charged an additional charge to remove the linoleum. In the end, they did not charge it because the installer was a nice guy, and he put the toilet back anyway. The Sales Manager was completely unprofessional. He did not call to see what the problem was, but instead resorted to the sales person at the store to cancel the contract.
Description of Work: They put new carpet throughout entire house, and a new floor in two bathrooms.

It was a very bad experience. They missed the installation date and I had cleared my schedule for that day, so I called and cancelled the order because i was upset. Then, they called a week later with my carpet on the truck and asked if I wanted them to come and install it, I let them come do the installation anyway. They were short 4 feet of carpet and tried to make it work, but it looked unprofessional. The guys were really young and didn't work well together, they were rude and did not respect my home. I spoke with a manager about the problems with installation and he was rude and unwilling to work with me. There were also problems with their accounting and payment processing. I would never use them again and it was a horrible experience.
Description of Work: Hired them to install carpet on stairs and in hallway to match carpet they had installed previously in living room.

I had worked with Empire in the past and recommended them to family friends and clients. However, this time, the workers were very ROUGH with everything. They sawed off trim around doors to install laminate then left gaps between floor and trim, also they did not install the laminate flooring behind an appliance as agreed. Empire did a terrible job installing carpeting and at 2 months old it looks like it needs to be replaced. I have asked the division president to have the work corrected 4 times but he doesn't respond to any of my communications.
Description of Work: Removed entire house carpeting (except family room) and installed new carpet, pad and laminate flooring throughout the home.

The rep was 2 and half hours late. Did not measure the rooms to be carpeted correctly saying that he was going to "round the number up because it was easier." The number was 11 yards more than I even needed. The rep spoke about how busy the company is and how over worked they are. Not professional. I was far from impressed. Their prices are so much higher than everyone else and the quality is not as good.
Description of Work: I asked them to come out and give me a quote for a 60 square feet bedroom carpet. He told me the carpet would be $4 per square foot. Then he gave me the quote for $2,400. They were charging me $1,800 for the installation alone. No actual work was performed.

THIS COMPANY'S WEB SITE TAKES DOWN INFORMATION, AND THEN ALLOWS YOU TO SPECIFY A TIME AND DATE FOR A WINDOW REPLACEMENT ESTIMATE. SEVERAL DAYS AFTER SUBMITTING MY PREFERRED DATE AND TIME FOR THE ESTIMATE, I RECEIVED AN EMAIL STATING THAT THEY HAD BEEN TRYING TO CALL BUT COULD NOT REACH ME AND REQUESTED I CALL THEM. I RESPONDED TO THE EMAIL THAT I HAD BEEN HOME, AND NO ONE HAD TRIED TO CALL. THEY PHONED WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF MY SENDING THE EMAIL AND SCHEDULED A TIME. THEN ABOUT 2-3 DAYS LATER, THEY CALLED AND CANCELLED THE APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THEY STATED THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY WINDOWS TO SHOW ME. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL BACK WHEN THEY HAD SOME TO SHOW. BY THIS TIME, I ALREADY HAD DECIDED THAT I DID NOT EVEN WANT THEM TO DO THE JOB, SO I TOLD THEM SO. IN THE MEANTIME, I GOT OTHER ESTIMATES AND SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH ANOTHER ANGIE'S LIST COMPANY. INSTALLATION CREW WAS ON TIME AND VERY COURTEOUS. HAD DIFFICULT TIME MOVING FURNITURE AS THIS IS A SMALL HOUSE AND MY FURNITURE IS VERY HEAVY. HOWEVER, THEY WERE VERY CAREFUL AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ANYTHING. THEY WERE EQUALLY CAREFUL IN REPLACING EVERYTHING UPON COMPLETION. THEY EVEN MADE SURE THE TV'S WERE WORKING. THEY LET ME VACUUM BEFORE REPLACING THE FURNITURE SO THAT I COULD GET UP SMALL PIECES FROM CUTTING THE CARPET.

I MET WITH THE FIRST EMPIRE CONTRACTOR ON OCTOBER 4, 2004. WE AGREED ON A PRICE AND COLOR AT THAT TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT THE JOB WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY FOUR DAYS WITH A 5-6 MAN CREW. IN SHORT, THIS PROCESS TOOK 225 DAYS AND WAS FINALLY COMPLETED MAY 17, 2005. I EXPERIENCED AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF HEADACHES THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS. I WORKED WITH A TOTAL OF 3 DIFFERENT CONTRACTORS, BEING TOLD EACH TIME THAT THE PREVIOUS CONTRACTOR HAD BEEN FIRED OR HAD QUIT. THROUGHOUT THIS TIME I WAS ADVERTISING THE PROPERTY FOR RENT, WHICH I COULD NOT SHOW BECAUSE OF THE HOUSE BEING FILLED WITH MATERIALS. A CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATE WOULD BE THAT I MADE APPROXIMATELY 50 PHONE CALLS (2 PER WEEK) DURING THIS PROCESS. EACH TIME I WOULD HAVE TO LISTEN TO FIVE MINUTES OF EXCUSES AND REASONS WHY THE JOB HAD YET TO BE COMPLETED. THE SECOND CONTRACTOR ALSO FAILED TO DO A QUALITY JOB.

SAMPLES WERE BROUGHT TO OUR HOUSE. THE FLOORING WAS INSTALLED 2 DAYS LATER, AS AGREED UPON BY BOTH PARTIES. INSTALLERS WERE FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL. WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH OUR NEW FLOOR.

I HAD ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE GENTLEMAN WHO CAME OUT NEGLECTED TO TELL ME I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING THE CLOSET DOORS OFF. WHEN THEY CAME TO LAY THE CARPET, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO IT. I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AND THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP OR CALL. THE THIRD TIME THEY DID COME, BUT THEY LEFT ALL OF THE CARPET LINT ON THE CARPET. I ASKED IF THEY WERE GOING TO CLEAN IT UP AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T DO THAT. THEY DID OFFER TO DO IT IF I WOULD GET MY SWEEPER OUT, WHICH I DID. THEY LEFT THE QUARTER ROUND IN A PILE ON MY FRONT PORCH. I WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE WAY THEY SEAMED IT IN THE HALLWAY. THE INSTALLERS WERE SUBCONTRACTORS. THE QUALITY OF THE CARPET IS FINE. I WAS NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE SALESMAN.
