It is a common story. I work nights. I tell every contractor that I work nights and am unavailable until noon at the absolute earliest. The day of the install, the carpet layers called me at 7:55 AM to tell me they would be at my house around noonish. They called again at 12:38 PM to say they would be at my house after they ate lunch. They arrived at 1:22 and came in to look at the room. They brought in the carpet, verified that it was the correct color and started putting down the tack strips. I left them in the room and went to another room to work on my computer. About 45 minutes later, I notice that it is very cold in my utility room and go out to my living room to see what's going on. One of the installers had propped open the screen door and the storm door to get the padding in and hadn't bothered to close the door once he got the padding in. It was 17 degrees Fahrenheit today for the high. My indoor cat went out and hasn't come back. They suck for that alone.
Description of Work: Empire was contracted to install new carpet in a spare bedroom.

Contact Empire as a repeat customer. Salesperson arrived as scheduled. Received quote for $3200. Questioned price due to competitor quote of $1600. Empire immediately dropped to $2400 pending "manager approval". Continued to question price difference. Was told by Empire Sales person that carpet was not "apples to apples" comparison. Lot of discussion around Nylon material and Polyester (competitors material). Contacted salespersons manager to understand more and confirm the Nylon vs Polyester differences. Discussed at length. Manager quoted back $2600 and said could not meet the $2400 with the "sale" carpet price. Finally, reach a negotiate price of $2400 with installation in 3 days. During the installation it was discovered the Empire carpet was in fact PET Polyester sames as competitors with same weight. Contact the salesperson and manager. Both had same "canned" response describing the situation as a "miscommunication". I feel mislead and cheated out of $800.

Salesman came in time (they give you window like from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.) at 1 p.m. Brought many samples, quoted fair price (they had big discount on this type of carpet). Nice guy, I was almost positive we'll sign with them. I'm glad that I shopped one more place, and actually I paid little more for other type of carpet: nylon (I found on many references on internet that it's more durable for heavy traffic, salesman told me different), but what was most important in making decision, that Empire Today never ever follow up, not a single phone call. Good follow up is very important, in my opinion if they don't care about your business before you spent any money with them, what care could you expect after installation. That's why other company got my business.

Carpet was ordered on one day and installed the next. The workers were on time and worked very professionally. I would say they do not present a real good image but they were very polite and very professional. I found out later that the carpet I received was builder grade when I instructed the salesman that under no circumstances did I want builder grade product shown to me.

We contacted empire today to get new carpet for our home. We were called back very quickly for an in-home appointment. For the carpet we picked out it was going to cost $5,000 for 880 square feet. However, we decided to measure the area that we wanted carpet for and it is only 730 square feet. We did the measurements a couple times to make sure. This is a HUGE difference and would make the cost significantly less. It is like adding an entire room. We were also told that we were getting a a good deal and that we were actually cutting into his commission. We canceled our order for this reason. We were excited about our order, however in the end we felt like we were not treated honestly once we actually did the measurements ourself just to double check since it was a huge investment for our home.
Description of Work: We had an in-home estimate for carpet. We purchased the carpet, however we have now canceled our order based on the reason below.

Salesman was on time & brought samples of carpet and flooring. He was knowledgeable & showed us the various options in each category. One of the main reasons we chose this company was for the next day installation, but our schedules did not permit us to schedule next day. They were very accommodating and scheduled when we were available so our project was completed within several days. The installers were polite and respectful and seemed knowledgeable, especially the installation team for the wood laminate flooring. One or two on the team of installers for the carpeting seemed to be learning the trade and were not as experienced, but seemed to take direction well from the team leader. We are very pleased with the outcome. One down side to our project is that I do think that we could have had the same product/quality job done at a lesser cost. We had a good experience, but may not have scheduled work if had read reviews first. Good many 'F' ratings in various categories & overall.
Description of Work: We had carpet installed in our family room and wood laminate flooring installed in our kitchen and eating area. The old carpeting was removed and laminate was installed over existing vinyl flooring. They took the old carpeting to dispose of for us.

They were on time and I thought their prices were really high. They quoted $2,800.00 for work I ended up having done for $1,000.00. They did offer to drop the price to $2,500.00. They were inordinately high on their pricing.

They come early to move furniture and carefully replace it when finished. They clean up well, and are quick about all work. They bring samples to the house which is very convenient. I would use them again.

I called them because I didn't want to run from place to place. A friend recommended them to me. They came out and I chose a carpet to be installed, but when they came out, the carpet was not the same. I still had the sample, since my daughter had just had that carpet installed in her condo. I let them know that it was not the same, in color, quality or texture, but the man said that he had to install it. I called in and was told that it was the same by the manager, but he did send the salesman out with new samples. I have lots of allergies, so I was assured by the salesman that they'd had no complaints. They went ahead and installed it, even though I was skeptical, but I've noticed that it sheds quite a lot, and is too thick for the bedroom. I called in to let them know that I was still not pleased, because it is irritating to my skin, sheds constantly, and hurts to walk on. They sent someone out, and he said it could be a bad piece, but I haven't heard back from them yet.
Description of Work: Carpet purchase and installation, which I mistakenly paid cash for. The carpet is unsatisfactory, causing me many problems, and Empire has not resolved this complaint to date.

First day, not so good. People at the warehouse made the wrong cut so had to wait one more day. These guys were great! They worked fast and around my wifes schedule with our 14 month old so he could nap. They repaired some floor boards and fixed squeaky floors, which they did not have to do. Very polite, hard working and great workers. I would use them again and again.

The installers (the Hines group) were excellent. Very conscientious about our personal belongs and very respectful towards us. The salesman was very nice, but gave us some misinformation regarding furniture moving that we discovered upon further reading of the contract. The salesman said all we had to move were the little items and the installers would do the rest, including a piano. Luckily, I called to get clarification, moved a lot of the stuff myself (including breaking down beds), and everything went smoothly on installation day. The installers seemed to be surprised and grateful that we had done so much ourselves. They still moved the couch, loveseat, mattresses, etc. They even removed sliding doors from a linen closet and reinstalled them. They arrived promptly at 8:30 and were done by 2:30. All in all, a job very well done.
Description of Work: Installed carpet throughout whole house, including stairs, except for one bedroom and two closets.

The rep Doyce Thornton was a very nice and professional man. He was very knowledgeable of the product and the company. I would love to have made the purchase right then and there but my instincts told to me to get a couple more estimates. He was not pushy by any means. Unfortunately for them, three other places came in at half the price for the same brand, style, and description of work. Those places were also recommended by friends. The thing Empire has going for them I guess is if you need the carpet next day. They guarantee next day installation. The others were 4-7 days out and up to two weeks if it was a special order.
Description of Work: Came and gave us an estimate for 1300 sq. ft. of carpet. This included overage, installation, removal, haul away of old carpet, and transitions...all the next day.

Just like the commercial says, they will come to your home, give you a free estimate and deliver and install your carpet next day. Our salesman was very knowledgeable, very willing to work within my budget, answered all our questions. My carpet didnt make it on the truck for next day delivery, but that was okay w/ me as I wasnt in any hurry. It was late in the afternoon when we spoke w/him and the carpet comes out of a warehouse in Chicago so next day seemed like a rush anyway. The installers were ready 3rd day first thing in the morning, but I wasnt so they came in the afternoon. Four people, 1 small bedroom. They were the most efficient crew I had ever seen. Each had their own job, did it and did it well. I couldnt be happier. They were in and out in less than 30 minutes. Moved my furniture and were very, very pleasant young men. I have absolutely no complaints about my experience with Empire Today.

There were small chips in the wallpaper. They ran into the plastering with a roll of carpet and broke that. The carpet was not stretched so you could pick it up in the middle of the room in every room in the house. They would not except personal checks and made me pay with a cashier's check. They damaged some of my property and they did not install the carpet correctly. I would like them to finish the work correctly so we can move in. I contacted the company and they sent someone out to repair the damage. The installer didn't know it was such a big job, and he will be back tomorrow to work on fixing the damage the entire day. They’re trying to make me happier.

It's been horrible! They've damaged my whirlpool tub and a sculpture, and the floor is a mess. The carpet in the adjacent room was also damaged. I've been trying to work with them, and they're telling me that there isn't any problem with my tub, and they tell me that their insurance doesn't cover anything.
Description of Work: They installed carpet and laminate for me. The carpet is fine, but I've had lots of problems with the vinyl portion.

I called the contact listed on Angies List early one morning inquiring about new carpet for a bedroom. Mr. Matthias said he would call me after 1 PM to let me know when he could come out that afternoon. He called about 1:30. I had previously told him I would be off the next day as well. So he asked if it would be ok if he called me first thing next morning and he would come out at my convenience. I said that would be ok. He called next morning and since I had a project for work due at noon. Since he had said he would come out at my convenience, I asked if he could come out any time after noon. He said he would give me a call after lunch. At around 2 that afternoon, I hadnt heard from Mr. Matthias so I called his cell and asked if he was still planning on coming out. Would he please give me a call. Around 3:45 I hadnt heard from him so I gave him another call asking him to please call me. Another business day has passed but Mr.Matthias has not returned either of my 2 calls.
