Ely Stokes Inc. Chimney, Fireplace & Masonry

Very well. We had to reschedule the visit due to extremely cold weather, which is why I indicated below that it took 1-2 weeks to schedule. Otherwise it would have been scheduled within the week. On the day of the repair, the office called an hour early to see if I was home, which was great. Two men arrived a few minutes later to do the work. The damper had simply gone off track, and I just didn't have any idea about how the darn thing worked. They had me look up inside the fireplace as they showed me how it worked. Within a minute they had fixed the problem. They asked me if I had any other questions, which was helpful because I did. They responded to them accordingly, and then they left. The whole repair took less than five minutes! There was no charge for their time, which I found to be really remarkable. This is the second time they have worked on our house (with the first being a major chimney repair in 2007), and I'd definitely work with this company again.

They were prompt in responding to my initial call for a cleaning. They noticed the damaged brick and provided a quote quickly. Great experience all around.

He was very helpful, was 1/2 hour early and called to find out if that was alright and in the end did not charge for his help.

Scott checked out both of our chimneys; but, said that only one needed cleaning. Scott also had a look at the small chimney leak in our attic, and the effervescent chimney footing in the basement. Based on Scott's assessment, we plan to have Ely Stokes come out in the Spring to put on a new chimney cap, and make some repairs to the upper portion of the chimney. Scott gave us a $10 Angie's List discount on the sweeping.

I was running late from an event when my son called to say the Serviceman was in the driveway. I had him call my cell phone. He was let in by my son; I arrived five minutes later. On the phone Scott, the serviceman said he wasn't told by the office why he was at my house. Scott had a regular flashlight and basically looked in the fireplace said it was a very clean prefab model. He opened the damper to reveal dead wasps. He suggested we buy Duraflame logs to clean out the dead insects. When I asked about the birds and owls that we hear from the top he said it was probably the metal flasher that caved in and created a bath for the birds. Not sure how that is possible since the water is most likely frozen now and we still hear animals. He never looked outside or got on the roof to check the chimney. He did what we did without any special equipment. It was a huge waste of my time and his. I paid the $40 service fee which I could have used for something else. I was quoted $139 over the phone. We were written off because we didn't have a real masonry fireplace. They could have easily said all this on the phone without coming into my home and charging me a fee.

They showed when they were scheduled to. They accepted the coupon we had and did a good job. They did some recommendations.

They were very good. They were on time and they were competitively priced. They did a very good job. They did a great job of fixing the mistake that another company had made.

Provided various estimates for servicing our chimney. They offered a couple different repair options(fix or start over)or removal. We were interested in the removal option since we were already getting our roof redone and have other chimneys to vent the house with. They recommended we research for vent free fire logs since we were already set up with gas. After comparison shopping and considering our options, we chose to purchase vent free logs & remove the chimney. They worked with our roofing company to ensure that there was not going to be a large hole exposed to the elements between them completing their work, and the roofers beginning theirs. They were very professional and courteous to work with.

They called because the were running late on a prior job, which was appreciated. They were very clean when doing such a dirty job. I had no clean up to do after they left, except put in my grate and add wood. They did not find anything wrong with the fireplace, so we expect to have many fires keeping us warm this winter.

Scott arrived right on time, used a protective floor canvass and wore booties on his shoes while inside. He first got on the roof and in the attic to inspect the brick and flashing. He gave suggestions on maintaining a safe chimney. He cleaned the chimney from the bottom up, running a vacuum all of the time to eliminate dust in the house. He scrapped the firebox, damper and log basket, replaced some missing putty in the firebox, cleaned up and presented me with an itemized bill.

They came out and gave an estimate-without requiring me to be home (a huge plus). They did not charge for their estimate like one of their popular competitors. Their price was the best by far.

Everything was excellent. They were professional and knowledgeable. We don't burn wood anymore in our fireplace but I would recommend them to anyone that does burn wood in their fireplace.

I contacted Ely Stokes office and requested a quote for my chimney to be repaired. They were able to come to my home very quickly and make what I thought was a fair quote for the work to be performed. The work was completed in two days. The workers were professional and focused totally on the job. The work site was kept clean and orderly.

It went very well in all ways. Stephanie handled all of the phone calls before and during the work efficiently and cheerfully. The work crew members were friendly, and they worked hard during the incredibly hot weather in summer 2007.

I liked that they put shoe covers on to protect my floors and keep them clean. They also covered the area in front of the fire place for the same purpose. He arrived on time and did a good job.

He did a really good job. They were delayed by the rain but once they started they got the work done very quickly, and because of that they called and rescheduled. They were on time to do the work. They seemed to be knowledgeable in what they were doing.

They set up an appointment, then they called to cancel and reschedule. Then they called and canceled my appointment via voice mail. They said they didn't have anyone available to give me an estimate, and that they would call me back when they did. It has been over a month, and I still have not heard anything back from them.

They were good, they were very conscientious about being clean and making sure not to make a mess which I appreciated, they were very professional, I would definitely recommend them.

I am amazed that he did not charge me, but I am impressed with his honesty. He does have a friendly staff. I will forever remember this act and well continue to use his services. Had there been a problem, I would have paid the low cost he was asking.

When they first came to look at the chimney they were running late. They called and gave a quote of my different options. We had some trouble scheduling because of the weather, but they got it done and it looks great.

The screen had blown off the top and I got squirrels and a bird in my chimney. They did most of the cleaning on the roof so it wouldn't get into my house. Their pricing was reasonable.
