Ely Stokes Inc. Chimney, Fireplace & Masonry

Purchased Angie's List Deal for a level 2 camera inspection and chimney cleaning. They called within a couple of days after I purchased the deal to schedule the visit. I scheduled someone to show up between 10:30 and 11:30. When nobody had showed up in that time frame, I called to follow-up and was told they had a later time (11:30-12?) on their schedule. Someone arrived between 12 and 12:30.) The inspection seemed to be very thorough and we were provided with an estimate of what would be needed to make the fireplace safe to use. We plan to check with other providers to obtain estimates for the suggested changes but have not yet done so. Since we had not used the fireplace much since last cleaning, minimal cleaning was needed.

John, James and Zach did an outstanding job in putting in the insert under rainy conditions. Between going on top of our roof to installing the intake vent and flue exhaust vent to crawling under the crawl space to turning on the gas switch. All three were very professional and courteous.

We didn't have any problem with it, so I would say they did a credible job. Their price seemed reasonable; we never compared prices with anybody else. It took just an hour or less for the work to be completed and there was just one worker. For cleanliness of the area, they did that fine.

Very good. They didn't have to go inside the house for anything, but still called to let me know when someone would be there to measure or to install it. The installer also took pictures before and after and showed them to me. (I arrived about the time he was finishing the work.) A couple of years ago they cleaned out my chimney. They did a good job there too and told me then that the chimney chase was rusted (took a pic and showed me) and would need replacing within the next year or so.

The work done was good, but it took a phone call and email over a few months to schedule the work. I also spoke with someone at Angies List that I did not hear from the provider and no one contacted me until I emailed the provider. It was great to finally get the chimney cleaned!

I purchased the $129 chimney sweep and inspection through Angie's list. I was contacted almost immediately by their very pleasant to schedule the appointment. John and Zack arrived on time. The fireplace and chimney were inspected and cleaned. All work was completed in a half hour. They were professional, polite, and very clean. I always call Ely Stokes for this work and they always provide A+ service. I will definitely call them again.

Went very well. They were able to find a window in the weather and complete the work in 2 days using a 4 man crew at times. End result looks very good. Very high quality work at a reasonable price. Will be having them back after 30 days to waterproof the chimneys.

I was not impressed. The chimney sweep only spent 3 minutes sweeping my chimney and vacuuming my fireplace with a shopvac. I left when he started and went to put away something in my basement. When I came back up 3-4 minutes later, he was already writing the invoice because he considered himself done. I felt around the fireplace bottom and showed him some debris he missed. I let him know that although I did not expect him to use water or a cleaner to clean the fireplace and chimney, I did expect for him to spend more than 3-4 minutes with his wire brush up in the chimney and his handheld brush in the chimney to have a thorough clean . He humored me by again using his handheld crumb brush to sweep around and his wirebrush for another 3-4 minutes. Not a great clean at all and a lot of attitude to have to deal with. I knew this was all I would get from this technician so I left it at that. I have had other chimneys swept before and all did a much more thorough and longer lasting clean than this company. I would not use this company again. Go with another company that performs a throughout cleaning not just goes through the motions.

They showed up on time. Everything went well. The technician seemed knowledgeable about the cleaning and also recommended putting chimney caps on, which I did. He happened to have two in his truck. I had questions about one of my gas fireplaces not burning correctly. This tech said he didn't work on gas but they had someone who did and to contact their office. I tried to get information and a gas person out several times but they were not responsive. I eventually hired somebody else for that.

The tech was over 4 hours late for the appointment without calling or answering our calls to them,. Our schedule did not allow us to stay around to wait on them to perform the scheduled maintenance.

very well. The technician was very informative, and did a great and thorough inspection. He even went above and beyond and gave a few embers to replace the burnt out ones we had. i would definitely hire again to have logs cleaned, or to have the fireplace insert painted.

I hired Eli Stokes, Inc from an Angie's List Deal. They did an average job, but I had to insist on a few things. The serviceman put on booties, but then proceeded to walk in/out of house without removing them until he left, which was annoying. I gave him the fireplace manual to rearrange the logs because the last cleaning/inspection (different provider) left them so there was a larger open area in the center of the logs. He said that wasn't a problem and they couldn't be rearranged. Once I showed him how the diagram did not show the big hole in the center, he arranged things to look better. He only cleaned the glass after I said I thought that was part of the service, but it wasn't a great job. He tried to tell me there were scratches on the glass, which were really streaks from cleaning fluid. The glass isn't easy for me to remove for cleaning, so next time I will do the cleaning myself with my fireplace glass cleaner. Overall, they did what they were hired to do, but I didn't really feel like they were "experts" at it.

Very well. They wore boots inside, took pictures of my chimney, showed me where some of the mortar is coming loose, explained knobs and vents inside the fireplace I never knew what were for, and quoted a price on my aging chimney cap.

I was very impressed with the quality of work. The tile they replaced had to be ordered and picked up in Indianapolis. I got a call within 2 weeks that it was ready and then it was installed within another 2 weeks. The outside chimney work in the cap area looks good from the picture I was shown as the previous metal flashing up there was rusted pretty bad. The only complaint I have is that they are a smaller company so it can take several weeks for a fireplace cleaning or work to be done...But that is also a part of their charm. The same person came to my house for each job and I felt he was very knowledgeable.

It went well. The technician arrived closer to the end of the two-hour window, but he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He gave me some good tips on maintaining the fireplace myself, so I thought he was very helpful.

Easy to schedule and like paying ahead with credit card online when purchased as a big deal. John was technician and very professional and helped with understanding of how the fireplace functions.

Service person never showed up. When I called after the expected arrival time I got a voice mail saying the voice mailbox was full. I never heard from the company.
