Ely Stokes Inc. Chimney, Fireplace & Masonry

I purchased a big deal for $99 which was to include a chimney inspection, sweep and $100 credit toward repair. the big deal said I would be contacted by a certain date by the provider to schedule the service. The provider never contacted me. Two weeks after the date specified, I contacted them and a date for service was scheduled. The chimney sweep was completed. The service man recommended that the chimney cap needed repair and sealing and that the flu should be replaced. when asked about cost, was told he would send an estimate and could not do either repair that day. Never received any estimate or follow up from the service provider.

He did not charge me and was very professional.

We scheduled a chimney inspection for Wednesday between 9:30 and 10:30. At 10:25 I received a phone call saying they couldn't make it that day and rescheduled for the following Monday. The inspector did show up between the scheduled time frame the following Monday. My wife and I were both struck by how it didn't seem very professional. He basically looked at our fireplace, stuck a mirror up the chimney and that was it. He said we needed a "pipe" to connect to our insert. He replaced the insert and asked what we wanted to do. We said, as we told him initially, that we wanted to do whatever it takes to get the fireplace up to code and working. So he removed the insert again, took a few measurements, and told us someone would email us an estimate. He took our check for $65 for the inspection and left. We have not heard from them since. I contacted the office four days later to request the estimate again, but still have not received anything. A few days after the inspection we called "Your Chimney Sweep" for an estimate on a liner and possible insert replacement. Two men showed up and did a more thorough inspection than Ely Stokes, all for free, and gave us an estimate on the spot. We are still baffled at what we paid $65 for. The inspector gave us very little information and did almost nothing. Regardless, we were still interested in getting a quote for getting the fireplace up to code. We are very disappointed that we paid $65 and they would not even submit a quote. Wish there was more I could say, but it was a very big waste of time and money for us. I wish they would recognize the inconvenience that is to their customers.

We had Ely Stokes out to perform an inspection on our fireplace and chimney as we had recently purchased the home and the realtor inspection was very superficial. Ely Stokes did a very thorough job of inspecting the firebox and chimney from top to bottom, even getting on the roof when the weather wasn't so great. We are grateful to know that the fireplace is in good working condition and safe to use.

They did a great job. They scheduled very quickly and I have no complaints. I would use them again.

It was simple to schedule an appointment and I believe they arrived on time. They cleaned up well after the job was complete. There were no additional fees beyond the cost of the Big Deal. I had used them before and I had liked them. The work was very good and I will hire them again.

I had requested for over two weeks to get an appointment. Their voicemail was full, so I sent them an email that took them about three or four days to follow up. They came out and completed the work and it was great. On the day of the appointment, they arrived at the wrong address so they were late to the appointment. The technician who came was great! He was very and clean. He went through the report with us, took his time with details and noting the defects that might need repairs. They were supposed to get back to me with an estimate for additional work, but it has been at least two weeks and they still have not gotten back to me.

Was a very good experience. The serviceman was really great about answering questions I had very thoroughly and shedding a bit of light on several subjects related to fireplaces and inspections and maintenance, and I felt he was knowledgeable and included me on the process really well . Price seems to be fair compared to the competition but I gave it a B because it still seems steep overall. About $100--which was a special price, supposedly--for about a 1/2 hour of work max that doesn't require much special equipment.

It was great. The technician was very personable and professional, kept the house clean while he worked, and did a thorough job. The company was also quite responsive when I called to schedule the work. Ultimately, I had no complaints with the service.

I just paid the price for the big deal that I paid through Angie's List. They did a good job. They recommended a couple of things and they told me how I could do it myself. That was good. Their price seemed reasonable. Part of their responsiveness was because of the bad weather but they had to reschedule a couple of times. They were right on time. I would use them in the future.

It turned out very good. There could be an additional charge and it depends on if I opt to the masonry repairs or not. The tech was very pleasant.

It went great - they arrived timely and completed the work without leaving one drop of dirt or soot in the house. The technician wore slippers over his shoes to ensure he did not damage my carpet. This is the first wood burning (gas starter) fireplace I have owned and he took the time to explain all the details regarding starting a fire and how to effectively use my fireplace. After the paperwork was signed and he was already back in his service vehicle in my driveway I remembered a question and came out to ask. He offered to come back into the house and look at the switch I remembered I had a question about. He was happy to provide good customer service. I highly recommend this company and will be using them again next year.

The service was great! He was not able to get on the roof to inspect the chimney because of the snow but he did observe some rusting and asked the appropriate questions to see if it was causing issues inside like leaks. Helped educate me on the type of fireplace we have and things to watch out for and what to expect. Cleaned the chimney and removed the logs to clean in and around them as well. He also told me about a cleaning agent I can buy that basically vaporizes the blacked charcoal that's on the logs and inside the fireplace box.

I fee their price charged for what they were willing to do was too high. Other than that they were fine. Be sure to shop around more and hire someone who will give you the best value and not make a big deal of removing a dead bird.

It went great, but I hate surveys & Angie's List has harassed ME FOR MONTHS TO GET THIS DONE even though I asked them to stop. I WILL NOT RENEW MY MEMBERHIP. NOW LEAVE ME ALONE.

My dryer in my home was having all of the signs of a clogged dryer vent. So I purchased a Big Deal and this company contacted me immediately to schedule my appointment. I will say that I was a bit lazy and didn?t schedule right away. They were very diligent in getting me scheduled. They give me a window of 1-2 hours of when they would be there. I arranged for a friend to be at my home when they showed up. My friend failed to mention he was running behind. I received a call right on time of the appointment window. I quickly rushed home to let him inside. The service tech thankfully waited on me. The home had a bird nest or 2 in the vents. They quickly fixed the problem and everything has worked since then.

Ely Stokes Inc Chimney Sweeper was professional and on time. He set up tarp wide enough to ensure that job will be complete clean. It takes 20 minutes. He cleaned out the chimney and black mesh fire screen very well. Nothing more than that. Just that I am puzzled that he did not clean the fireplace glass. He mentioned to us that it will cost us more to clean the entire fireplace and will give us the quotation for this. We paid $109 and certainly expected him to clean the fireplace glass, as well. Maybe we really do not understand what the chimney sweep really includes.

Angie's List Big Deal came across for chmney sweep, plus credit towards brick repair, if needed. They called promptly to schedule the apppointment. The day of, the person didnt show up at the appointment time, I called, and they explained to me it was a window of time. He showed up about ten minutes later. The tech was in an extreme hurry; I didnt hear brushes in the chimeny, but was out of the room for a few monutes so I may have missed it. I asked the tech to be sure to check the chimney cap, since I'd noticed some smells during windy days. He assured me he did and that it was fine. I dont recall seeing ladders out at all, and the tech handed me the invoice and left, without any mention of the credit towards brickwork repair.The incvoice did denote some needed brick work.The inside of my fireplace appeared cleaned.
