Ely Stokes Inc. Chimney, Fireplace & Masonry

Uneventful. I was told chimney didn't really need cleaning but it was brushed anyway. I was given recommendations about future chimney maintenance. I had to contact Eli Stokes myself to arrange a time for this service because I did not receive an email from them as Angie's List had told me I would. Eli Stokes said Angie's List had changed the way it informed companies about services ordered per the List, so Stokes apparently did not know I had purchased this service until I personally called them.

Quick service, cleaned the chimney, reviewed findings and recommended future service, and cleaned up thoroughly behind themselves.

Excellent. Very prompt service. Very professional team. In addition to the cleaning of the chimney they adjusted the damper to the flue and replaced some missing mortar. I was impressed with the team and their expertise and knowledge. I will schedule them every year.

It did not go as well hoped because they didn't get back in touch with me.

That went okay. The "Big Deal" covered what they did. They did one but they couldn't do the other. They said something was in it. They checked it and it worked out. It made sense. They had to switch it. They could have given me suggestions as to what I could do for the chimney.

They came out with bristle brushes on the 22nd of April and they couldn't get it clean, they came back out today with stronger equipment and tried to clean it again today, but realized that I'd had a chimney fire I didn't know about and the creosotes had crystallized in the chimney so they advised me to have my chimney rebuilt. They were so kind and nice and they didn't even charge me for either trip they made to come clean my chimney! Their customer service was excellent! I'm having my insurance company come and inspect the chimney and once everything is approved I will definitely hire Ely Stokes to do the work!

Our gas fireplace was having some issues so we decided to call a company to inspect & maintenance. The young man came in & we explained what was going on. He looked at things but didn't seem to know what was going on. He went out to the truck & then came back in with a lady, which I think is the secretary, I don't know. She looked at everything also but couldn't come up with any solutions either. She said the regular tech went home sick that day so she would get back to the office & explain to him what was going on & give us a call. We also asked for a quote to put a blower on our fireplace if that was available for our fireplace. That was on Monday, April 11 & I asked if they could fix it could they do it Friday of the same week since I was off work that day. Said they could. Problem is, They have NEVER called & it's May 4th! Even if they thought they couldn't fix the problem they should have at least made a phone call stating that. I do not need their services now, I will try to find another company.

We had a carbon monoxide leak and our gas was shut off. This was last week when it was getting down into the 20s at night. A technician came out to give us an estimate for installing a chimney liner so we could get our heat back on. We were told we would be called that evening with an estimate with work to start asap. No call that night, or the next day, or the next. It has been over a week and I have yet to hear back from this company. I called twice after the technician came out. The first time I left a message, and the second time the voice mail box was full-apparently they aren't returning anyone's calls. Frustrated I tried to tackle the job myself and found that we didn't even need a flu liner. The area of the chimney where the furnace exhausts into was clogged with brick dust. I was able to take care of this myself in about 2hrs. I don't know what the technician did but he clearly didn't take the time to diagnose the situation well. Our family was out of heat for over a week, and they didn't even have the decency to make a phone call. But at least I know what level of work to expect and can warn others to avoid.

Provider came out on the day scheduled but neglected to phone or email me with the estimate and it took almost 2 months of phone tag to get it. Provider refunded the amount of the deal to compensate. Since they took ownership of the screw-up, I would consider using them for the actual repairs.

He gave a thorough inspection of the gas log and fireplace and checked the flue up through the chimney.

Great service, on time professional. My chimney sweep retired. Will be using this one in the future.

The inspection report noted a minor crack in the back of the insert; this crack has been present without known change for >20 years. Company advised me to watch for any change in the size of the crack; I appreciate his not pressuring me to replace this insert.

I purchased the wrong thing for my chimney. Eli Stokes allowed me to put that amount of money towards another service they offered without any problem. I had them redress and clean my gas fireplace. Donnie did a great job and the fireplace looked much better after he finished. He was also able to answer my many questions about future upgrades for the fireplace.

A service person came out to do an inspection and install a Chimney Cap. The initial inspector came to examine the chimney and stated there were chimney swifts in the chimney and could do no other work. We never heard anything from these birds but went along with his recommendation that we wait several weeks to have them come back out. When they came back out they did install the cap at that time and did an inspection, no sweep. We were told verbally that the chimney was in disrepair with many cracks and not up to code. To fix all the damage would entail work of about $5000 or we could replace the entire chimney for $8000. He told us he would provide a full estimate in writing. We waited several weeks for this and it never arrived. I finally called the company and was informed that the technician that did the work was injured and they could not determine what the estimate was without him. We told them we would be willing to wait but were informed that they would likely not be able to do the work needed without this technician. We then sought the advice of another company. This company stated the chimney was in fine working order and needed no work at all.

Easy to schedule an appointment, even though this is a busy time of year for chimney sweeps. He was right on time. My son was home from school and recognized his video game and chatted with him while he worked. In and out in 20 minutes. Gave me some very helpful tips but was not pushy in the least. (I mentioned that the fireplace didn't seem to heat the room very well and he suggested getting a stainless steel plate to reflect the heat and protect the back wall, which was getting some pits and cracks. But he really didn't try to make me feel like I needed to buy it from him. He even recommended a certain hardware store.) Very professional. Better price than some other places I called.

I placed the order on Dec. 19, left my cell phone number for them to reach me, and haven't heard back. I will try calling them.

We had Donny come to our home to inspect our fireplace. He was early and was wonderful at explaining everything he found. I didn't feel he was trying to make a sale or push us into a service. He cleaned the chimney and fireplace, he inspected everything inside and outside. He gave us suggestions and was very clear with the work that needs to be done and the pricing of the work and materials. We will be converting our gas fireplace back to a wood burning fireplace and we will have Ely's do the work.

I needed 3 things completed. A chimney inspection, an estimate for replacing bricks on the chimney and a thermal coupling replacement. They did the chimney inspection and left. I never heard back about the other 2 issues. When I finally called them to follow-up I was told they do not to thermal coupling and they would get back to me on the brick for the chimney. I still have not heard from them. I will not use them again nor would I recommend them.
