Elgin was quick to set up an appointment for us and showed up right on time. They were very polite and professional. We love our new water softener. It works great and requires much less maintenance. Elgin even called for a follow up to make sure we were happy with the new softener.

I’ve lived in this house for 25 years and had never had a water softener. Two months ago I began renting a softener from them. I did find out that my outside water is soft, and I am choosing to have a plumber come out now.

They couldn't help me because they weren't familiar with the water filters that I had. All he could do was put in a new system for $500, which I decided not to do. He told me some things that I later found out weren't true as well.

Tom Decker with Elgin came in and inspected our water softener system thoroughly. He was able to put the system back on line without replacing any parts. He patiently explained how the system worked and provided a step by step lesson on how to back flush the system (setting the time, activating it, refilling salt, etc). We are very pleased with the service that Elgin provided and highly recommend them to anyone needing service on their water softener.

From the first call to inquire about pricing to the actual install they were great to deal with, very straight forward and no hassle. They actually talked us into a cheaper deal after learning about our water usage and needs. There were no unnecessary attempts to upsell items we did not need and no bashing of their competition.

Overall, the experience has been good. They've always been prompt, courteous, and thoughtful. Alot of other companies recommended that I dug up the well then treated it. This company recommended a carbon filter, which has worked ever since.

They were very professional and punctual. They didn't track any peeling plaster from my basement up to my home - didn't leave a mess behind like I thought they would. They were very efficient, getting the job done in about an hour. It was an incredible deal - for a new unit with another company was about $1700.

Our water filtration system stopped working effectively... I called Elgin and a gentleman came to repair it....he blew out a line that he thought was causing the slow down of water. We were going to be billed for a service call. All was well after this until several hours later....when the water was not coming out of the faucet very well, once again. My husband called Elgin and explained the situation, the gentleman said that we could repaire the system for about $200. ( the unit was about 20 years old), or we could replace it for about $500. We would not be charged for the initial service call, and it would be our choice as to how to proceed. We opted to have the entire unit replaced. Elgin ordered the unit, and called to schedule the time for replacement...not quite a week later. The technician came when scheduled, and worked efficiently and replaced the unit. The water from the faicet and the refridgerator flows beautifully now.

He gave an explanation of the water softener and how long to expect it to work at top efficiency before it needed replaced, which was good knowledge to have so we could get the long life out of it that we were hoping to have. They were very helpful and very good to work with.

The installation went very well with no problems. The service person explained the system, how it works and filled the softener with salt. The water feels great/soft and works well. The total experience with Eligin was great!

They spilled alot of salt in my driveway. I told them to come and pick up their supplies from my garage.

I contacted them through the Angie's List "Request a Quote" button. They were the only company to respond to my request! (So, I'd give them an A+ on responsiveness.) They responded the next day, and I exchanged e-mails with Doug describing the problem. He said they could come out to check things out, so I made an appointment.Jim came out to my house to test the water. He confirmed the initial suspicions that the likely cause for the hot water odor was the rod in our new water heater, and to contact a plumber to replace that rod before trying other solutions. He also confirmed through the water testing that our water softener was working adequately.I appreciated their quick response and assistance with my issue, particularly that they suggested the most likely cause of my problem even though it meant they would not be selling anything to me at this time. Jim mentioned that they had solutions that could take care of some water odor issues we had in our cold water, but he recommended we wait on that until the most prominent issue (hot water odor) was fixed before exploring any options there.

They advised me on what needed to be done before installing the water softener. They showed up on time and worked efficiently. Installation went very smoothly. It took less than an hour. They made sure things worked properly before leaving. We're going to use them for regular maintenance.

Technician was right one time, polite, and respectful. He repaired the hose, then did an inspection of the conditioner to ensure it was still in working order. He provided thorough explanations and answered all my questions. I was satisfied with the work and would use this company again. Only issue was communication of price - I probably should have asked, but I forgot to beforehand. I didn't question the invoice, and didn't think it was unfair, but wish that either they had been more forthcoming with the estimate before starting the work, or that I had remembered to ask. All in all this was a grade A experience.

Elgin always calls before a delivery to make sure I am available. The delivery men are courteous and professional.

We used them previously 20 yrs ago and we have just started using them again. We were very happy with them. They wanted to initially bring salt on the day after we first contacted them and rescheduled to help me out. We are also happy with the water softener.

They have always done a good job. Recently I did inquire about getting a reverse osmosis system from them for my new home, and they said that it was not possible since I will be living on a slab.

They brought (4) 50lb bags + delivery. My experience with them has always been good.

Water softener had quit working. We are on a well, and soft water is a necessity, not luxury. Hard water was ruining my dishwasher, leaving a calcium coating on everything! I had a couple of companies come out to assess the problem. I called Elgin first, but upon seeing a spiral piston (or some other dedicated part in the motor) originally referred me to the manufacturer of our system because of unique parts they built into their softeners. After that consultation, I called Elgin back for another opinion. Elgin had installed our reverse osmosis system in '07 and I really liked the way Doug Hull advised me then. Informed, down-to-earth and only sold me what I needed, not what he could get away with. I was here when Tom from Elgin tested the media and he showed me the integrity of the grains, explained the dark color is just the color of the grains. Showed me how to tell if the grains are still intact by squeezing them between the fingers. Mine were still good. Elgin recommended replacing only the head and some pipes and keeping the dual tank system I had. Saved us a lot of money. I appreciated how Doug and Tom both patiently explained their reasoning and results. They could have sold me the same $3400 system the other company recommended for $300 less, but why. We had no need of that much softening/sanitizing in our situation. Doug is reasonable and practical. His solutions fit one's individual situation. I find him knowledgeable, personable and trustworthy. The cost in this particular job included cleaning the 2 softener tanks, re-plumbing some more logical lines, new softener control head, service and filters on our reverse osmosis system, which had not been serviced since installment in 2007 and all labor. I highly recommend Elgin water and Doug Hull to anyone with water service needs. Will most definitely use them from now on.

I first noted the problem 2 days ago. I called for that day. The technician came to the house yesterday, as promised, and on time. Repair took about 45 hours. Technician was very courteous

Getting soaked??? Supporting local family businesses is important to me; Elgin Water is just such a business, so I gave them a call after checking their ratings on Angie's. I chatted with a representative and discussed price with discount of Angie's List coupon; I set an appointment for installation. Removal and replacement went fine, but pricing was significantly different than quoted. After some confusion & misreading of coupon (on my part) a new price was left on my voicemail. It was incorrect, again! Confused and feeling a bit duped I shared my understanding of the final cost and asked for some clarification of differences. Tom, a dedicated employee who was sympathetic and able to temporarily restore my faith in Elgin, walked me through some of the miscommunications; he resolved all but the tax charged. The tax being charged was on the ORIGINAL amount (retail price), which he couldn't explain. After several discussions back & forth between Feb. 9th - 12th, a crisp bookkeeper informed me that they CAN charge tax on the RETAIL cost w/o taking into account any discounts. I found this strange as they hadn't done this on their original sales slip, so I asked her about it. Her response... "The service guy made a mistake. He knows better." Newsflash! I owed my own business at one time, I NEVER held this policy nor does any other company with whom I do business. What could have easily been smoothed over has now left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. Unfortunately, I now have a system that is under warrantee with this company and will need to be serviced each year. If this is their idea of customer service, how can I trust that the product I've purchased is quality? Please understand, we were quibbling over $1.40! For me, it was not about the $1.40, it was the principal behind it--having to fact-check a company with whom I'm doing business is VERY disconcerting and time-consuming. When that company has an employee who saves face by resorting to excuses, lies, and speaks to me in condesending tones, I can't help but leave feeling like I got soaked.

The evaluation of the old system, recommendation for a new system, and installation was completed in three days, Monday to Wednesday. The installation was done professionally and with no mess in a few hours. The device fit exactly where it was supposed to with no interference with existing washer and dryer. We have not had the softener long enough to evaluate its overall quality but the water is notable 'softer'.
