Elgin Water Care

It went very well. Since we are only planning to be in the house two more years, renting made sense. The workman was prompt and efficient. Using the Angie's List coupon we were able to get the unit installed at a nominal fee. The monthly rental rate is much lower than a Culligan unit. Additionally, the unit features on-demand regeneration, which is not available as a rental from Culligan. We are very pleased.

Doug Hall made a sales call at our request and convinced us that his equipment would fit our needs. He said we had no obligation to purchase salt from them or a service contract. Their ''bumper to bumper'' warranty, including labor for 3 yrs and the remaining warranty for 10 yrs on the equipment, exceeded our expectations. He even offered a less expensive unit than the one we were considering initially. Their installer called before arrival and efficiently removed the old unit and installed the new one. He set the recycle frequency, taking in consideration that Carmel water is softened, thus requires less softening than Marion County water, which is at least twice as hard. We are very cognizant of not wasting water or salt with unnecessary recycling of water softeners. Before the installer left, he went over the operation of the unit and made sure we understood everything. In short, we had a very good experience, and our water is now consistently soft.

I received great information when I called. They asked questions to make sure they could recommend the right unit and stepped me through the buy versus rent options. I opted to rent and, taking advantage of an Angie's List coupon, didn't even have to pay an installation fee!

My experience with Elgin Water Care was most satisfying. They came across as honest and tried to give me options on what I needed to do.

They arrived on time, explained how everything works, and got everything working in top shape. I'll be using them again soon on another house.

It took several phone calls to finally get a repair scheduled, but once the guy came, he was very helpful. He explained what the problem was, why it was happening, and how to fix it. He also suggested some future options to consider.

Came out and surveyed the broken water softener and set up a bypass so I could use the faucets.

We contacted 2 Angie's List companies - Elgin Water Care and Cooper Water Softeners. Both companies were very pleasant and professional on the phone. Elgin explained their services and the types of plans / softeners they have including a rental option. Cooper Water Softener set up an in-home appt. Mr. Cooper was very nice. He offered one type of softener at approx. $900 for purchase but no rentals. We decided to go with Elgin because we could rent the softener. Elgin set up a install appt. The technician arrived on time. He installed the softener and explained how it operates. He was very nice and enthusiastic about softeners - he said we'd love it. He was right. They charged about $80 to install (they had to refit a valve), plus the monthly rental ($18) and 2 bags of salt.

They were on time and called before coming to remind me of our appointment. Price was a little higher than the company we decided to use. Overall a good experience.

We recently purchased a home where major renovations will be taking place. The previous owners had a rental agreement with Elgin. I spoke with the owner and was quite pleased with the education he gave me on the options available. Due the home being vacant for 6 months, we decided against continuing a rental contract or making a purchase at this time. However, I am now aware of several options for when we do move into the home. The water softener was removed the next day and the technician called me when he was on the way to the home and gave me a 15 minute lead time to meet him. He had it removed in no time at all and left the salt for us to reuse when we do install a water softener. The whole experience was pleasant from start to finish. This is the type of company that we want to do business with - great attention to customer service. We will definitely call them again.

I chose this company because of the glowing reports on Angie's List, and they lived up to their reputation! The initial rep arrived right on time, assessed my water softner, and presented my options for a new system. The installer called to let me know he would be 30 minutes late. He arrived when he said he would and took less than 2 hours to install the new system. What really impressed me is that we have little space to work with and the electrical outlet was about 15 feet away. The installer arrived with a specially designed extention cord and extra long hoses to accommodate our convoluted space. I realized that the first rep had communicated all this to the installer and he came prepared!

I called with a thousand questions, with no idea what I wanted or needed. The owner patiently and thoroughly answered everyone, never making me feel rushed or silly. We have decided to not get a water softener at the moment, but I have recommended Elgin to others based on my good interaction with them.

I had a great experience with this company. Considering Elgin's price and parts and labor warranty, the estimate was the best value of the five estimates I obtained. Plus, the company has been in business for more than 60 years, so I know they'll stand behind their product. The company was able to install the new softener within about three business days, and the installation was free with my A.L. coupon. They hauled away the old, heavy tank and offered to remove my old salt hopper, but I opted to save it. The tech said old hoppers make excellent garbage cans/storage containers for the garage, so I kept ours. The installation only took about an hour, and it was great that the tech could meet me during my lunch hour. He also filled the new hopper with salt and suggested reusing perfectly good, dry salt from the old unit in the new hopper. It was great service!

Very good. Technician came out and was very nice. Our unit was too old to be fixed but tech left brochures on buying vs. renting with no annoying sales pitches. Didn't charge for service call.

The overall experience was very good. The work was neat-performed on time, and they cleaned up when the work was completed. The person who installed the unit was very patient as he explained the softener set up. A really good company to do business with.

We were very pleased with the job. We had a pool of water in our basement from a leak in the old softener. They made a temporary repair so we could turn the water back on to our home, and replaced the old unit with a new one in just a few days. They even transferred what was left of the salt in the old softener to the new one. Work was professional, promptly completed, and reasonably priced. Pleasant and highly qualified workers.

Very impressed with work ethic, reasonable approach to sales (did not sell me most expensive product), and helpful & patient with our schedules.

Very good experience--On time, within budget, did good job, and even came back out at no charge to change the system when one of our old drain pipes proved to be faulty. System works well.

THEY BRING SALT AND CHECK MY SYSTEM AROUND THREE TIMES A YEAR (WHENEVER I CALL). THEY ALSO TAKE THE SALT DOWNSTAIRS AND PUT IT IN THE SOFTENER FOR ME.

Representative was very nice, prompt, and fixed an old water softener when I had trouble finding a company that would fix it(water softener was NorthStar--never get that brand!)

The workman was very prompt, and worked quickly and efficiently. He had some problem with part of the existing equipment, but worked through it and got the unit working well.

THEY ARE MORE ABOUT THE PRODUCT AND GIVING ME QUALITY, AS OPPOSED TO PUSHING THE PRODUCT ITSELF. THEY ARE PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONABLE, WILL ANSWER ALL OF MY QUESTIONS WITHOUT HESITATION. WILL RESPOND TO ANY ISSUES QUICKLY.

I WOULD LIKE TO COMMEND ELGIN WATER CARE FOR WHAT THEY DID NOT DO. I CALLED ASKING IF I SHOULD REPLACE MY EXISTING ELGIN WATER SOFTENER WITH A NEW 'ON DEMAND' TYPE. THE GENTLEMAN I TALKED TO SAID THEY DID NOT RECOMMEND SWITCHING. I APPRECIATED HIS HONESTY, BECAUSE, HAD HE RECOMMENDED THE NEW UNIT, I WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE GIVEN HIM THE JOB.

THEY WERE VERY NICE, THE GENTLEMAN THAT CAME OUT WAS QUICK TO GET TO WORK. HE DIDN'T EXPLAIN MUCH, WHICH WE WOULD HAVE PREFERRED. THE SYSTEM WAS STILL HAVING TROUBLE A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, AND THEY CAME OUT AGAIN TWICE (AT NO CHARGE) TO CONTINUE REPAIRS. THEIR SERVICE WAS GOOD, AND WE WOULD PROBABLY CALL THEM AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.

WE CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON THEM TO COME AND BE HERE WHEN WE NEED A REFILL. THEY HAVE ALWAYS TREATED US COURTEOUSLY AND PROFESSIONALLY.
