He quoted $1350 for drilling the well. I described additional trenching I wanted done for 3 water hydrants on the site. When I asked him how much it would cost, he said that much again-meaning another $1350. When asked how long it would take, he told me 1-1 1/2 weeks. After work was proceeding very slow I rented a trencher and did majority of the trenching. Work began on April 20 and was completed June 2-43 days total- roughly 1 1/2 months. I had to do majority of the trenching, lay all the pipe, do all of the interior plumbing and back fill all the trenching. Immediately after drilling the well and connecting a temporary pump from the well to the house with our garden hose, he asked for $1550. I paid it figuring that $50 per ft. was normal. But when he installed the permanent pump and asked for $2000, I complained. He said that was what he quoted. I am old and a little slow in my thinking. I didn't realize at the time I did most of the work plus had to rent additional equipment to get the job done. I also paid for all the interior plumbing supplies out of pocket. In the course of this project he incorrectly installed a plastic pipe under the driveway which, after a rain caused erosion under the driveway. While trenching close to the house with his back hoe, broke a drain tile and cracked the foundation wall. He claims he didn't hit the wall but the crack was not there before he dug. In addition, because of the length of time he took to finish this project, much of the back fill has washed away by recent rain and I will have to buy more back fill. I highly recommend you stay away from this contractor! If you do do business with him get every thing in writing including a penalty for late fees.
