Short answer, these folks over promise and WAY under deliver. They practice bait and switch, have no empathy or concern, subcontract services without saying so and will leave you hanging if you count on their written word. I may yet file a small claims suit for services clearly not delivered per contract. The in home estimate went well. Shellie appeared to fully understand the situation (separation/divorce) we were in and said all the right things. Per the Estimate/Contract, Crown was to pack all items on Tuesday 9/21 and load on the Wheaton truck 9/22 or 9/23 (though 9/23 was never discussed as an actual load date unless of an unforeseeable event). We received and signed the written estimate and were given the glossy folder showing the fabulously clean and professional Wheaton truck and driver that would be moving us. On Monday 9/20, the "Move Coordinator" (not Shellie, by this time SHE was on vacation) called and asked if we could load and pack on the same day. I agreed, but said ONLY if she could guarantee and VERIFY that they would be there on Wednesday 9/22. She called me back a little later and said the driver would be at our house on Wednesday morning 9/22 between 8AM and 10AM and the driver would call us Tuesday to confirm. Tuesday came and went with no call (apparently ZERO EFFORT at follow through from the Move Coordinator as well). Wednesday morning we were stressed, but ready for the move. At 8:15, the "Move Coordinator" contacted us and said the driver would not be there until Thursday (my wife's flight out to FL was 7 AM Thursday - which we kept because they told us Monday that everything was on schedule). When I tried to get Crown to send packers yet that day (Wednesday), they refused to honor their contract (that would have everything packed and labeled BEFORE my wife had to leave). So we spent an extremely stressful Wednesday getting my wife ready to leave. Thursday I had to get up at 4:30, take my wife to the airport then come back and supervise packing my wife's stuff. This caused me to take an extra day off work. Oh...the truck as not Wheaton, but a Beekin. Not a big deal, but it was not what I was lead to believe. The packing was reasonably efficient, it took about 4 hours. The driver and packers left 2 boxes of trash (cleverly concealed behind my compost bin so I would not see it) when they left. The driver told me he expected to deliver my wife's belongings to Florida Tuesday 8/28. Delivery finally took place Tuesday 9/4. They gave my wife items that were clearly not hers and she is not at all sure she has all of her items.
Description of Work: I contracted Crown / Wheaton Moving and Storage to move my wife's belongings from Columbus IN to Okeechobee FL.

On May 11, 2012, Shelley came out to give us an estimate on moving out of state sometime in June....I told her we could be flexible on date. Interview went ok until I asked if the company could bring out the needed wardrobe boxes on moving day....at the same time their employees would be packing our large items and loading the truck. I was told that we would have to pick them up ourselves (both my husband and I are seniors) and she wouldn't charge me for the boxes. Her explanation was "she didn't know which end of town the driver would be coming from and he may not be going by the warehouse". I explained we didn't have sufficient room in our mid size car to transport these large boxes....she suggested we have someone from our family who had an suv or truck to pick them up for us. I asked if I found someone, what were their hrs. on Saturday to do this....I was told they were closed on Saturdays. Interview ended on a neutral note and she said she would email me an estimate within three days......did NOT receive estimate nor a telephone call back explaining why. Was VERY disappointed in this company and would not recommend them.

We regret that we did not deliver the estimate as promised. In order to prevent similar situations occur in the future we have tighted up our process to double check that estimates are sent and if possible we will work up the estimate while still in the home. Both Shelley and I (General Manager) called the customer to apologize. Tim Wiley

I found Crown/Wheaton Moving on Angie's list. I also interviewed two other moving companies and chose Crown Wheaton based on my interviews and Angie's list ratings. In the past 12 years, I have moved across the U.S. 3 times. The other two times were a disaster, with losses, thefts, missing items and terrible customer service. So, I approached this move with considerabl trepidation. I am delighted to report that Crown/Wheaton was outstainding in every way. From the day that I spoke with them on the phone, to the day that their representative came to my house to review the move, to the estimate that was provided, to the packing and move out here in Carmel and finally, delivery to Tucson Arizona, all was just perfect. They provided a "not to exceed" estimate and actually billed me at less than that amount. So both the price and the service were outstanding. The driver was truly exceptional--he knew his profession very well, was so careful with everything, and delivered it all on time and in perfect condition. I am making a move over a two year period and have told Crown/Wheaton that they have my business for the final move as well. I highly recommend this company to anyone and everyone.

I worked with Phil Beanblossom, who provided estimates and tracked the work. In July, Dave and two young men came to our old home and moved most of our household goods into storage. They noted all markings on the furniture and inventoried each piece before packing them. The crew was neat, courteous and prompt. They worked from 8:00am to 7:00pm in the evening to complete the process. Nov. 17th Bill, Alvin and Travis delivered, unpacked and set all of our stored items. This process took about nine hours. In June and July we had moved some items ourselves to a rental home while a new home was being built. This was done over a thirty day period. Since we wanted all of our household goods with us after closing and we needed to vacate the rental we used Crown for the local move. The Nov. 17th crew arrived on time and loaded and transported the entire load, filled a 30 fooot truck, then unloaded the truck place all items where directed all in 8.0 hours. Completely satisfied,

They came out and gave us an estimate on a move, knew our moving date, and when we called to accept the offer, they said they couldn't move us by the time we had to be out of our house. Never, during the course of a few e-mail conversations, did they indicate that they would not be able to move us on time. Not very professional.

On June 27, We did an in-home survey for this customer and his wife. One of the things we discussed was the importance of lining up a provider in a timely fashion. On June 28, we tendered three (3) moving options. He quickly replied (e-mail) and let us know he was collecting other estimates. We did not hear anything from him and knowing that our work schedule was filling up we e-mailed him on July 5 to get an update on his move plans as we did still have some availability. We did not get any response until two days later wanting to move on the last week of July. Unfortunately by that time we were now booked up but we would be available early the next week to provide moving services. He said that that would not work and he declined our offer. Movers typically book up during the summer months so as we encourge all our potential customers to firm up their move asap. This customer also rated another mover with an F for the very same reason.

We chose this company based on their Angie's List rating. We did not have anything like an A rated experience. Our move happened during the worst ice storm in many years so we anticipated delays which were understandable, What was so frustrating was the lack of consistent and accurate information coming from our "Move Coordinator" (MC) who was the assistant to the salesperson that sold us the service. We were told by our MC that we would hear from her everyday from the beginning of the process to the end. That did not happen and when we did contact her she was not familiar at all with the services we were paying for. She became combative during a conversation on the day the "packers" were packing because she insisted they would not be able to pack our home in one day, It took six hours. She was misinformed by her coworkers who had spoken to us and instead of just getting the facts, she chose to argue to make her point. She was not helpful or professional. Her boss then joined the conversation and promised to get back with us about the status of the driver's arrival but we never heard from her. Another staff person made the call. The packing crew did get the job done in one day as they were instructed by the office to do, however, they did a very poor job. Boxes were not labeled while others were mislabeled. An example of the "care" they took was that they put a piece of wood art in a box with an unwrapped bottle of perfume. We were told they had to repack anything we packed. We had placed some items in plastic bins anticipating that they would be packed properly. They were not. They did not even put the plastic cartons in packing boxes. When we called the office to report this, we were told to just tell the driver not to put other items on top of them. Part of why we chose to have this company pack our home was that their policy is that if they do not pack it, we would not be covered for the full value of the item should damage occur. We did not want to risk it so we paid a premium price to have this service. Don't bother, you are paying for nothing. Our driver was great as were the loading and unloading teams. Both of those teams were courteous and very hard working. I would never recommend this company as they made a naturally stressful event more stressful and unpleasant. Finally, when we called to report some damaged items and the poor quality packing job to our salesperson, she had no response until I said, "I will say that most things did get here undamaged.' To that she replied, "well that's good." , never remarking about the poor quality of the service. We should have gone with the other company we looked at. .

We sincerely regret that this move did not meet this customer’s expectations. The move did occur during the largest blizzard during the winter of 2011 and we were severely impacted by crew members and office staff that were unable to arrive to work as scheduled. The move would have typically taken two days to pack but since we had to start the packing the next day we shifted our schedule to increased the crew size in order to expedite the packing process so our customer could load as scheduled. While our preference would be to pack the move in one day we increased the crew size and pushed our crew so the customer could load as scheduled. Looking back we should have pushed both the packing and loading back so we could better control the process but we make every attempt to stay on schedule for the loading. We sincerely regret that in that process the customers expectations were not met, but we are pleased that once the driver showed up that the move proceeded back on track and occurred smoothly. In the future we will attempt to be more proactive when there is predictions of severe weather that may impact our services.

The agent that provided us with a quote was Preferred movers of Nashville. The person they sent to provide an estimate to move, pack, store and then unload at the other end arrived as schedule. He went through each room, closet, drawer, and all the nooks and crannies so as to provide us with a good estimate. We needed to move 900 miles away, during the Christmas holiday and arrange for storage, as we had not purchased a new home at the time, and finally unload our belongings. The estimate was right on target. Wheaton provided the packers. The three gentlemen, were polite and quickly packed all our belongings. Taking care to examine each piece and noting any damage prior to packing. We also had a glass tabletop. They arranged for a person to come in to build a crate to protect the table top during the move. They left us a bed and linens so that we could spend the night as the actual move would not occur until the next day. The next day the movers came, again with enough man power to move us quickly. They were organized and completed the move, including a storage area as planned. On the other end, Wheaton used Bridges of Exeter NH to unload the truck. We called five days before we had to move and they were able to accommodate our move date. They too, brought the appropriate number of people to move our belongings up a flight of stairs to our new home. The day was cold. They were organized and had my husband, check off the list, as items were brought into the home. It also gave us a chance to tell them were to put each box making it easier for us to unpack. The move required that they move a piano up the stairs which they did with lots of moans and groans. Nothing was broken, the glass tabletop was intact and the piano was gently placed in its new place. The only problem we had was payments. We had failed to ask when payments were due and to whom we should pay. We eventually paid for the packing and the move out, after our goods had been loaded on the truck. We paid for the storage and the unloading, when our goods arrived at our doorstep and prior to the unload. The actual cost was less than the estimate as the weight and storage time was less than estimated.
Description of Work: We sought a mover to pack our belongings, move us 900 miles away, store our goods for an undetermined amount time and finally to move our belongings to a new place. We called three different places using Angies' list as a start. We received three quotes. Two of the agents used Wheaton's Crown moving and storage as the carrier. One did not. We chose Preferred Movers of Nashville as the agent using Wheaton as the carrier. The difference between the two quotes was Preferred agreed to store our belongings in the northeast where we planned to live vs the other quote that kept our belongings in the midwest. The quotes were similar.

They showed up on time, and got to work quickly. I had used a different moving company to move the furniture into the house about 8 months prior, so I had an idea of how much time it would take. I knew that the minimum four hours wouldn't be close, but thought I could use them to move a conference table up from the basement as well. I was paying for four hours, and the job only took three. They complained several times about the items being too heavy, and made me feel like I was asking them for too much already. For this reason, I didn't ask them to move the conference table. They did cover my stair rails, but didn't cover the furniture like the last company did. Overall they did an OK job, but it just wasn't the professional service I had received from the other moving company. I felt like I had inconvenienced them by hiring them to move our items. I thought maybe they were just inexperienced, but one gentlemen told me he had been doing it 17 years, and things were always heavy.

They sent someone out in advance for an estimate, which was very detailed. They were sure to let us know everything that the estimate included. They packed the kitchen and breakables and we did the rest. They showed up promptly on moving day and were very hard workers. There were a couple of items with minor damage, but I believe this was typical of any move. The actual charges for the days work were less than the estimate.

The movers initially went to the wrong address but that was quickly rectified. They were on time (at the wrong address) but made up for lost time in their efficiency. The piano lift was broken so they had to move the Grand on their own but they did so without mishap. The only problem was a broken leg on an antique glass front cabinet but they were quick to assume responsibility for the breakage and sent their own wood man to do the repairs. He did an excellent job in a timely manner and we were pleased with his work (Garry Bole, "Woodcrafters"). Their crew was projessional, their price very reasonable especially since there was a grand piano involved and the office people were very helpful. I would definitely recommend them.

All telephone contact with the company was excellent! The estimator that came to the house to size up the job was on time, very informative, and very professional. The two-man moving crew arrived on time and went right to work.....very efficient and hardworking guys. They had the items protected, loaded, and ready to go within an hour. To them it was a "small job" and they offered to haul anything else I needed to take above and beyond the scheduled items. I didn't need anything else moved, but it was nice of them to offer to take additional items. The whole job was done in just over two hours (including the cross town drive). Everything was moved, transported, and put into place at the new residence without any damage. The price was more reasonable than I expected (quite a surprise!) and I would use this company again.

They stored my things and stated they would do so until they heard from me. I called them and they needed to wait another week to complete the move. I had to pay for storage for that additional week. They also lost an ottoman that matched my chairs. They lost my bedsheets and my mattress cover. I also had an antique coat rack that was broken. I asked them to please have it professionally repaired. I also had an old light cover from the Federal Building that was downtown Indianapolis where my father had his office as an IRS agent. I have transported that from move to move like a baby because it is glass. This time I wrapped in carefully in towels bubble wrap and air pockets in a box by itself and it was smashed. It is priceless, the building is no longer there. Last but not least, I had a 20 year old cast aluminum outdoor umbrella stand that I loved and they lost that as well. I am still going through boxes to see if anything else is missing or broken. I am floored because I only choose A rated providers from Angie's List.

We sincerely regret that our customer was dissatisfied with her move. We do everything in our power to satisfy our customers and will continue to work her to attempt to resolve. When the move was set up we were to load on 04/21 and deliver on 04/23. Once we loaded the goods the customer told us that she could not receive delivery on 04/23. At that time she was unable to give us any firm date so we had to place the goods into storage. We ended up storing the goods and delivering about 4-5 weeks later when she was able to get possession of her home. We are in the process of working with the customer to resolve the claimed items.

The price was tremendous, the crew was polite, efficient, and moved 11000 pounds of cargo from a two-story home into a new three bedroom house with speed. Not one wall was scratched nor marred in the home from which we moved nor in the new custom-built home in Greenfield. Items wer carefully packed and moved, secured well on the semi and then placed exactly where we wanted them upon arrival. $1476 for a 14 mile move of 11000 pounds of cargo and in a period of 8 1/2 hours. Great work! Great price! We had full homeowner's insurance coverage, yet found Crown's quotation of $150 for a zero deductible policy more than acceptable on our possessions. Other movers quoted us near $2000 and over that for the move and still wanted upwards of $500 for a deductible insurance coverage of the move. I would recommend Phil Beanblossom, Bill Gill and his crew members for any move.

Went very well. The guys who did the move were very professional and very friendly. They took great care for the most part to ensure nothing was damaged. Only a few minor dings and dents resuted from the move. Granted if I did it myself it would have been the same or worse. Definitely money well spent as we had to get the house empty prior to an afternoon closing and could not close on the new house till the next morning. I'd use them again.

the job started with a very quick personal quote from the general manager (T. Wiley) and a local move from a 3-4 man crew. They showed up on time and worked a long 12 hour day. The crew (Dave, Frog, Travis and Bill) were extreamly hardworking, polite, good communicators, fast and very carefull with everything that they did. The crew (and company) was so good, I decide to use them on a more important move.....my 75 year old parents who move from Pittsburgh to live with my family. Another positive report was entered for their move.

It was a simple job and the guy did a wonderful job. We had to move the bed, as someone in the family was sick and we wanted them to be close to us. We then realized that we didn't need it anymore once everything got cleared up. So, we moved the bed back upstairs. We had a positive experience with them. We had no problems with them and I don't have any complains about them. We were impressed enough that we would hire them again.
Description of Work: We used the services of Crown Moving & Storage to move a bed from one part of the house to the other part of the house in August.
