Real Estate Auctions, Appraisals - Antiques/Jewelry/Items

About us

Auctioneering of personal property, real estate or commercial goods has long been an effective marketing channel. In some cases, the auctioneer acts as a broker for the seller after the owner consigns the goods for sale under mutually agreed upon conditions. In other cases, the seller may desire the auctioneer to acquire title to the goods in order to resell them. Auctions can be private or public, on-site or transported to Christys’ Auction Gallery. Flow charts are available for specific marketing plans of the clients’ goods. 19 employees. No subs. Cost determined by commission fee. Additional DBA - Christy's Auctions.

Just so you’re aware of a few things before choosing this business: 1) when you send your items for auction you will not get your own page/auction on their site. I sent over $20,000 worth of antique furniture (some one-of-a-kind). My items were buried on page 9 of an auction amidst everyday inexpensive items (Old push mowers, bedside toilet, etc) 2) ask for a preview before your items are posted. We sent a cherry entertainment center with our bedroom suite that we paid $8000 for. The top section transported separate from the base. When they listed the item the top was listed separate (of no use to anyone!). A simple action of looking at the original picture I sent, calling me, or asking the young men that picked it up would have prevented that mistake. All that to say, don’t assume anything! If you want a fair price for your items sell them anywhere but here. We received our check today and I was physically ill over my decision to use Christy’s. I would have been better off donating them to Habitat for Humanity and taking the tax write off.

It went great! The entire Christy's operation is professional, efficient, and dependable. From my initial call to Jack Christy to Micheal coming for an estimate, to Nick & crew packing, and Eli cleaning up everyone was superb. They arrived on time, worked hard, and got the job done. Their packing crew is very efficient. I requested "broom clean". They did that better than anticipated. All the trash was hauled away, and they even mopped the entryway floor! Their price is fair. They schedule your job in a timely manner. If you're cleaning out a house, use Christy's.

Christy's picked up antique furniture that they auctioned off for me. They were very professional, prompt and courteous. However, i was VERY disappointed in the amount that I received for my furniture. I feel that they really "gave it away". I will probably not use an auction house again.

I went to their office on 8/17 to set things up. Jack Christy then came to my mother's house and looked around. He said that because of some mold, mildew, and cigarette smoke issues in the basement, he wouldn't be able to take much from there. He also said he wouldn't be able to take the organ or working TV's ("they just would't sell"), or mattresses and box springs ("legally can't sell). He said with the furniture and belongings left, that we wouldn't make much, but we'd make "some". We set an appointment for 8/26, at 9 AM for 3 to 4 people to come to the house, sort through it, and take the stuff that they think would sell. He said that they'd be done in about 3 to 4 hours. 9 AM came and went. I called at 9:45 to find out where they were and was told that Jack would have to call me back. At 10:15, Jack called me back. He said that he had an estate "similar" to my mother's last week that just didn't sell because of the "cigarette smoke issues". He didn't think we'd be able to sell anything and didn't want me having to pay. He also said that he'd been trying to reach me to let me know, but couldn't. I think they were very unprofessional in setting up an appointment and then just not showing up. My phone has no record of them calling me even once. If the stuff is crap, say so. Don't set an appointment. and just leave people hanging.
Description of Work: I had to put my mother into assisted living so am trying to close her house and sell her belongings. I contacted Christy's to come and do just that.

They appraised this lamp at $5.00, it is a Waterford, signed, crystal lamp. They compared it to another brass and glass lamp that they sold the day prior. I feel that they should not be appraisers if they are not that competent. When I told them I was sure it was a Waterford crystal lamp, they never got back with me again after that. I spoke to the Waterford company when I was in Ireland, and they said it was indeed a Waterford Crystal Lamp. And I never received an additonal response from Christy's. Response from Christy’s: “Thank you for your concern on the appraisal of the crystal lamp with brass base. The lamp has been reproduced and we see lots of these lamps in the field. The Waterford mark is very hard to detect on the lamps. Without someone pointing out that the piece is possible Waterford in an estate appraisal situation we typically do not look for the mark as it could take 30 to 40 minutes to find especially on lamps. Yesterday at our auction we sold a lamp that looks similar to the one in question and Randy was the auctioneer. He explained to the audience that it had a Waterford look and it brought $5. Thank you again for your concern.”

We contacted Jack again to set up an appointment to schedule the auction & take pictures & do the paperwork. He & his wife met us at Dad's house to take pictures of some of the items to be auctioned, go over procedures, answer any questions, schedule the auction, & sign paperwork. The day before the auction Jack & Jeremy came to the house to sort items & group them for faster & easier set-up the next morning. The morning of the auction they came early to begin setting up for the auction. They were extremely professional, polite, & considerate. As a family we appreciated the fact that Jack began the auction with a moment of silent prayer. The auction went better than we had anticipated & we were very pleased with the services received & the professional, friendly attitude of the auctioneers. We would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Jack came out, looked over my dad's estate, gave verbal appraisals on some specific items, gave us an approximate value & information regarding costs of having an auction at my dad's property. He gave us printed information regarding auctions & left his card for us if we decided to use his company and/or had any questions.

After the passing of our mom, we had an enormous amount of items at her assisted living apartment, as well as our downtown Indianapolis home that needed to be disposed of or sold. We had an auctioneer friend who had been in the business for many years, but had retired. He gave Christy's his best recommendation. It is important to note the difference between Christy's on the south side of Indy, and Christies, the national business. This group did a very good and sensitive job for us, carefully and reliably packing and dealing with the items we had. They disposed of things that normally they wouldn't have wanted to take just to be helpful and kind. Their commission is fair and is standard for the business. The crew was excellent. We had a great experience with this quality business. The only advice we would share is that special items such as artwork, or musical instruments, etc that might not sell as well at a south side of Indy location where Christy's is, might be better sold through specialty houses if the value is high. I would trust this business to counsel honestly about those choices, and the overall performance and convenience of using them may overshadow any theoretic better return on given items. We highly recommend Christy's.

Their service was okay. The crew was good and the team lead was really good. The worker bees were a little rough around the edges but it was a lot of manual labor. Their price was better than their competitor. I feel they could have advertised a little better.

They were very quick and clean. They were on the ball and I got the check within a week after they had the auction. They were wonderful and I thought their price was fair.

They're absolutely amazing how much stuff they put through that place. I've never seen anything like that. It was absolutely amazing to me. They had 5 buildings over there. They had all different kinds of things in there. They had everything in the world. They had people in there, again this is Indianapolis, they had people from Kentucky, people from Michigan, they had them from Illinois, they were from all over the region in there. They had trucks backed in there. They were auctioning this stuff off. They were taking it out and putting it in their truck. We went and a friend and I asked them how we get registered and this and that. They explained it all to me what all they need, drivers license and this. It was very good. They had breakfast over there. They had a prayer service before. It was really a nice thing. They had all these auctions going. Each building had an auction going. They had an auctioneer going. I've never seen anything like it. They were just running things through there. I said this is what is going to happen to me when I croak and my kids get it. They'll take it to the auction house and just run it through there. They just ran that stuff through and it was mind boggling. They didn't waste any time. They had people there recording who the purchaser was. They had numbers and they would raise their hand. There they go. They hit that hammer. It was sold and on to the next thing. They were pulling it out. There was all kinds of stuff in there. You better watch yourself when you go to the auction. When ever they hit the hammer, that's the price you pay. You settle up with them. I didn't purchase a thing. I've never seen anything like it. It was very efficient. They were very professional. The auctioneers were. I didn't register. I found out how to register. If I want to take something over there, I just take it. There's 5 buildings and at the end of the day, it's gone. They give you a couple of days to pick it up. Then people start bringing in for the next week. If you want to go over and preview, people go over and preview what's in there. It was a heck of a deal. I would use them. Buyer beware. They were advertising golf clubs. I went back and looked in February. But, I don't need more junk. It was very professional. Buyer beware.
Description of Work: I've gone to Christy's of Indiana, a auction place. We were over there in January of this year. I also went in December. I didn't spend anything. I just went to look.

I like that they were very professional. A team of people came with trucks and boxed up everything. It was like a miraculous thing that they do. The down side is that they get a hefty commission to do all the work but for the situation that I had it was a welcome service. It was in my best interests emotionally to use a company like this especially considering their professionalism.

I took several items to Christy's to auction. My husband and I had bought and sold antiques and collectibles for years and are downsizing. I had attended the auctions 2 days and was pleased with the type of items they auctioned and the prices they achieved. Since this was my first time with them however, I took items of value but that I had not invested a great deal of money in to trial their services. I did not take any junk or items that were of box lot quality (and I had watched their box lot auction to see what types of items were sold). I was very displeased with the results. While I did not expect to get to antique mall type prices, I did not expect my items to be given away for $1-5 dollars. Many of my items were sold by skid (essentially box lot) for almost nothing ( a few dollars for a skid). When I reviewed my list upon receiving my payment, two of my better items were missing. When I called Christy's, they stated that they were not listed on the sheet I completed the day I delivered the items. I explained that I was told by the gentleman unloading the items that I only needed to list major items and they would complete a detailed list. It took them a few days, but they did "find" the two items and issued a check, again selling both for only a few dollars. I was very realistic about the prices I might receive and especially after attending 2 auctions. Unfortunately, I was not able to devote an entire day to sitting in the auction house the day my items sold, but wish I had because I would like to know if they actually made the auction block and the details of their selling. In addition, Christy's fees sound reasonable, but when added together it was almost 40% of what I received. I will never take anything to this auction house again.

I phoned first, was assured by office staff that items would be sorted prior to auction & be placed in appropriate auction: main building where better items go vs. box lot building. When I dropped goods off, I also checked items they'd already prepared for auction in the main building to confirm that I had some items of similar quality. Per my receipt, my total sales were <$150.00. Of course this was disappointing, but also know that auctions are a gamble. However, my receipt showed that ALL my items but 1 furniture item went to the box lot building. Later, I discussed this with an acquaintance. Was told I should've informed him/her beforehand that I was going to sell there; that he is a known customer with a permanent auction #. If I'd used that number, I would've done well. Overall, I doubt my items were sorted at all and that, given the volume of items they auction, they might not look too closely unless it's someone they "know."

My initial call to Christy's was very informative. We chose to bring the items to Christy's in order to realize a greater profit. They were helpful and very organized when we arrived. The auction was 5 days later and we received a detailed sale list and a check in less than a week following the sale. Had I realized this was so easy, I would not have thrown away things I could have sold.
