Brian was great to work with on our master bath remodel project. We first met him when he came to our home to provide an estimate for the project. We were impressed that he was on time (in our experience, this is rare for contractors), courteous (took his shoes off at the door), and very thorough (asked plenty of questions to get an idea of what we wanted). Throughout the duration of the project he was easy to get in contact with and very responsive. His estimate was thorough and much lower than another estimate we had received. Additionally, he stands behind his estimate so there are no "surprise" charges at the end of the project. The project started on time and was completed in the amount of time that he estimated. He made sure that all contractors were respectful of us and our home (covered furniture and carpet, and were often even accommodating to our son's nap schedule). He usually stopped by every day, or at least checked in by phone or email, to check the progress of the project and see if we had any concerns. We were especially appreciative that he made sure everything was done to our satisfaction. Upon completion of the project, Brian personally cleaned up and checked to make sure that everything was functioning as it should. However, when we used the shower for the first time there was a plumbing failure that resulted in a major leak. Fortunately, we noticed almost immediately and shut off the water, but there was quite a lot of water that came through the walls and floor resulting in a very wet living room below. We contacted Brian immediately and he had the plumber come out that evening to fix the problem, which ended up being a faulty part. He made sure the plumbing company didn't waste any time in addressing the mess in our home. The next day, Complete Drying Company arrived at our home and set up fans and dehumidifiers. Dave from Complete Drying Company managed the cleanup. He understood the inconvenience and made sure the other contractors (drywall, painters) were ready to work as soon as the drying was complete. During all of this, Brian would check in to make sure that the repairs were being made promptly and to our satisfaction. Although the leak and resulting mess were disappointing and hugely inconvenient (happened right before Christmas), Brian made sure that it was taken care of properly. Overall, we are very happy with how our bathroom turned out and would not hesitate to recommend Central Construction Group for a remodel project.

Brian was recommended by friends, when I contacted him we spoke about what I wanted done, he informed me that he could take care of the job. He sent me pictures of a room addition he had recently completed. I was impressed by the job done and I felt I would be able to get the kind of room I wanted. I had specifics for materials to be used but I was not sure how the floor plan would work. I told Brian my plan was for a bigger bedroom with closets and a bathroom with a walk-in-shower. He came to my house and surveyed the room that was to be gutted and added on to. He took measurements and talked about placement of walls. I was still not sure if all would fit in the existing area but he assured me it would. A week later he had drawings for me to look at and I made a choice. Brian applied for a got all required permits and a week later the crawlspace and foundation were begun. After the foundation was ready I asked that framing not start for another week so I could host an annual 4th of July party. Brian agreed and had the framing material delivered the following Monday. From there construction took off. In no time at all a new furnace and compressor were installed while exterior walls and complete roof were being built. I had a design change made that required a new drawing and material change, Brian said the change would cause a slight delay but that it could be done since interior walls had yet to be completed. He informed me of the additional cost, as he would later do whenever I made changes, order the required material and construction continued. Whenever I came home from work I always checked to see what had been completed and made sure what was done met my approval. I came home the day the framing for the shower walls were put up, I stood in the shower area and I knew it was not big enough. I was in a panic. I got in touch with Brian the next morning, after an almost sleepless night , and let him know the situation. He said it would no problem and not to worry about it, we could put a slightly smaller vanity in and extend the shower. I was relieved, called and changed the vanity size and when I got home that evening the changes were done. The few times that I did discover construction problems or when I wanted something changed, the adjustments were made politely and promptly. As the construction continued I would meet with Brian about every third week or when a major shift in the construction had begun. We would review what was done and go over what was about to begin. I really enjoyed these meetings, they were very insightful and reassuring that he and I were on the same page and he seemed just as excited and concerned as I was about the final product. The final weeks small items had to be addressed that help drag out the finish date. I asked that some small jobs be done like putting in a cabinet and shelving in the closets, again, done within a few days. I would put post-it notes on the wall and ceiling to point out paint problems and once I had enough put up the painter would be in to do the touch up. All the little things were just as important to Brian as were the major items. When the job was completed we sat down and relived the past several months, that initial phone call in February and all the e-mails and phone calls that followed, the high points and the low points and the things we would change and the things we learned. We also talked about future projects and when those might take place. I look forward to working with Brian again and I think that is the reason I enjoyed the experience; Brian not only worked for me, he worked with me.
Description of Work: A new crawl space dug and foundation constructed for room addition. Framing, siding, roofing and new HVAC unit and duct work installed. New wood flooring and existing wood floor sanded and refinished to match. Drywall to walls, and ceiling, taped, sanded and painted. Brian was prompt in returning my call. He came out and discussed the job, then sent me a partial quote. The final quote took a few weeks as lumber plans were assembled and I changed specifications. Brian arranged for a company to secure needed city permits. Work began on the 14th of August (a Tuesday). The workers were very skilled and organized. They removed the roofs and built the walls that day. On Wednesday, the new roof was framed and sheathed; soffits and fascia were built. On Thursday, the windows were installed in the new locations, and the shingles were installed by a roofing team. Brian or the foreman was on-site each day. Extra lumber was picked up the next week. The dumpster was left for us to use for the rest of that 2nd week as I had chosen to install the siding on the new construction and replace siding on other areas. It was picked up the following Monday. Each day, the workers cleaned the area and checked for nails in the driveways. Brian swept the area on Friday with his magnet to remove remaining nails. Overall, the process and the job was a good, professional, and positive experience. I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Central Construction removed an exixting roof on part of the 2nd level and 2 sections on the 1st level; they added a 2nd level above the 1st level areas, and installed a roof over the entire new and existing 2nd level areas; they added a small shed-roof on part of the 2nd level overhang; they installed ice shield and shingled the entire area (including the rear half of the house); they built the fascia and soffit with vents; applied sheathing and tyvek to all areas of the new and existing 2nd level; they removed and reinstalled 2 windows.
We had moved out of our residence and was converting it to a rental property. After living there for ten years, the carpet was naturally shot. We met with Brian to go over options and pricing. Brian was very prompt and came out to the house to measure each room. I had a quote within 48 hours. He referred me to another company to select the flooring and carpet. Their selection was great, and very helpful. I'm a guy, and interior colors are not my strong point. Brian and the flooring company helped with interior paint colors and flooring options that would go well with the house, and to help it rent quickly. We had a deadline of August 1, and he was complete two days early. I was amazed at the job that he did, and the house rented immediately. The new tenants love the house, and we're happy how everything turned out! I would recommend Central Construction Group to anyone needing interior and exterior repair and remodel jobs.
Description of Work: Conversion of residence to rental property. Entire interior repainted, including trim and doors. Hardwood flooring on most of first floor and all bathrooms. New carpet on remainder.
Brian responded immediately to our request for a basement remodel quote. He listened to what we wanted, took copious notes and made wonderful recommendations. His organization and scheduling was both appreciated and impressive. His quote was detailed and we knew the breakdown of every expense. Every time someone was scheduled to show, they were on time and did the work expected. Not once did someone fail to show when expected. The workers were on time and professional. Brian also worked closely with us to ensure our project was on budget, yet did not compromise the quality of products or work. His workers cleaned up before leaving each day, leaving what is typically a chaotic time, as organized as can be expected. The finished project is more than we anticipated. We love it! What was once a dark, ugly basement is now a beautiful continuation of our home - and does not feel at all like a basement. We have used several contractors for various projects over the past 10 years. I only wish I would have used Brian and Central Construction Group for these projects as well. It was honestly the best experience we have had during a remodel. Would I use this company again? This will be the only company I use for future remodel projects. Thank you again, Brian. You were a pleasure to work with and I look forward to working with you again in the near future!
Description of Work: Total basement remodel - removed paneling, dropped ceiling, bar, windows, lighting, etc. Replaced flooring, added drywall, and ceiling, recessed lighting, new bar, new bar cabinetry, pocket door. Painted walls, stained steps.

Overal Brian was pleasant to speak with, but the quality of work left us very upset. I contracted Brian after reading his reviews on Angie's list along with four other contractors. Brian was the most expensive, but he did promote quality and professionalism. I arranged for the work to be done during a three week period where Brian could have full access to the house. Unfortunately, he did not start the job until after this three week period of time. The job which was estimated to take a few man hour days ended up taking six weeks to complete. We were pleased with the addition of the closet. However, that is where our approval stopped. The drywall work was poorly done and required several trips back out due to bad finishes. Further, drywall dust was thrown throughout the house and in our furniture after we were told drop clothes and vacuums would be used everywhere. The end result required us to hire professional cleaners to remove the dust and debris from the project. In addition, the installed trim boards were not flush to the wall and where not mitered squarely. The end result was several gaps and uneven offsets at the junction of the boards. When asked to fix the problem, he refused. In addition to this, his workers broke tiles off of the bathroom counter. As this is a historic house, matching the tiles is not possible. Overall, I would not recommend Brian for further work. I am disappointed in the quality, amount of time, and end result of this project. While I do trust the other reviews on Angie's List, I had a radically different experience.

Response from Central Construction Group Inc
As a small business, this report is very disappointing to read and some of the details described come as a surprise to me. Our scope of work consisted of building a closet, removing and replacing thin picture style trim at various base and ceiling line locations, and performing drywall repairs from previous water damages and settling. The home had many challenges due to age and extensive water damages that had not been previously repaired, but covered up with the existing trim. We did start the work on time as discussed with the Owner while they were away and we did not commit to a firm time frame given the circumstances of the project and potential difficulties, which were also communicated to the Owner before starting. We simply stated that we would do our best to complete the project prior to their return. My records indicate that this project took approximately 4 weeks from the start of demolition to our last day. Just over a week into the project, the Owner stated that their second trip had been cancelled and they were returning home that weekend. Our new trim was custom milled to match the existing (which took just over a week) and we began demolition. After demolition of the existing trim, we noticed the prior water damages had separated the ceiling line from the top of the wall almost 4" in some locations and in addition to the trim, we removed a rock-hard substance that was installed above and below the existing trim to hide the extreme gaps. With the Owner unreachable at the time and in effort to keep the project moving forward, I made the decision to go above and beyond our scope of work to perform the additional drywall work required at my cost to make sure our new trim was presentable. We needed at least 3 coats of drywall to repair the ceiling lines so we taped, skimmed, and floated all ceiling lines in effort to reduce the large hump in the ceiling so our new trim would match up in the corners, to the ceiling, and existing areas. Since the Owner was not at home during this time, the home was cold in the evenings and it took us at least 2 days per coat for the drywall to adequately dry before we could continue with further drywall coats, or any trim installation. Our workers are not allowed to touch the thermostat without permission so the heat was not turned on until the Owners arrived back home. Prior to our last week of scheduled work for the project, the Owners changed our scope of work stating that they liked the drywall finished at the ceiling lines and decided not to install the trim back in some locations. Now, in order for the ceiling lines at these locations to be properly finished, we needed an additional 4 days to apply more coats and sand so that these areas will be ready for paint (our drywall crew was back in that next morning). This causes me to be confused with the statement that the drywall was "poorly done.” The reason our crews needed to come back several times was to make sure the ceiling lines would align with the corners and it took several applications beyond typical finishing to achieve this, and also to accommodate their last minute change to our scope of work. It is our standard practice to always utilize drop cloths to protect flooring and furniture during work, especially during drywall. In this case there was no exception. Some drywall dust may stick to the walls after sanding. Days later, we noticed the Owners were using fans to cool rooms we had been working in. This easily could have assisted in moving drywall dust throughout the home. I did not notice any drywall dust present beyond cleaning and it was not even brought to my attention once during the project or the final punch list walk-through. This is the first I am learning that it had ever been an issue. If this had been brought to my attention as a problem, I would have immediately inspected in greater detail and taken care of this issue, as I have on many other similar projects. The new trim was installed and due to our extensive focus on correctly repairing the drywall at the ceiling lines, our trim turned out great and I was very pleased with the finished product. Our largest gaps from all the new trim installed against the walls and ceiling lines were 1/8" to 3/16" at the very worst case scenario, which is still within tolerance. During the punch list walk-through the Owner pointed out small gaps in our trim where it meets the wall and I informed the Owner I would look into it but also again explained that our trim was only 3/8" thick and it was all matching up to existing out of plumb imperfections we had no control over. The Owner stated that he was a very detailed person and was disappointed with it, but understood the circumstances. Just to be sure, during our punch list work I brought in a reputable independent trim carpenter who had never visited the project to review the trim to see if anything could be done for the small gaps. He quickly pointed out all of the reasons (mentioned in this response) why the trim could not be installed completely flush and he was impressed with the current status of the installation and that there was nothing in addition he could do to make it perfect. I again went above and beyond and caulked several of the gaps in the trim and when I was finished, they were flush with the wall waiting for paint. Regarding the tile vanity top, the condition of the tile was deteriorated before we even began this project. It was brought to our attention that there was a tile that appeared loose on the vanity and asked if one of our workers had caused this. I immediately checked and notified the Owner that my workers did not think that they had disturbed the tile in any way and the Owner stated that he just wanted to check because he did not remember if it was like that before or not and did not pay attention to that sort of thing. During our punch list walk-through the Owner again pointed out the tile in question and began adjusting it when it fell off in his hand. He stated that since we were not sure if it had previously been loose, he would fix it and have it taken care of. A few days later, a worker was sanding in an adjacent room and the tile fell off the vanity front and broke. The Owner had simply stuck the tile back on the front of the vanity without any type of repair or reinforcement and then completely blamed us entirely for the tile breaking. Once all of the punch list items were completed on our list, the Owner stated that the trim was all of a sudden "unacceptable". We did NOT refuse to fix the trim; we simply could not do anything within our control to make it perfect in the extremely imperfect surrounding environment working against us. Our trim carpenters responsible for this project have well over a decade of experience working with custom trim. Even in a brand new construction environment, the baseboards and all other trim have gaps against the walls. The walls are imperfect, the trim is imperfect, this is very typical and the next process is simply to caulk the trim to the walls and paint. In the end, I accepted responsibility for the tile breaking since it happened while we were there working on the project and also knowing they were unhappy with the trim not being perfect, I issued a very reasonable credit in addition to the extra work far exceeding our initial scope. We went so far above and beyond our contractual obligation for this project and as an industry professional, I feel it is very unreasonable to demand perfection given the existing circumstances and to also give us such a poor grade after everything extra we've done and accepting responsibility in the end for something that we still do not believe was caused by our workers. We always try to do everything we possibly can for our clients and go above and beyond our obligations, as noted in many other positive reports. We're sorry this member had a poor experience with our company; we did absolutely everything we possibly could for them. There are clearly two different opinions regarding the progression and outcome of events.

From beginning to end, it took about a month and a half. Everything was written in great detail and he even came over extra times to do walk through to make sure everything was clear. The process was smooth and there where no issues.
Description of Work: Brian was WONDERFUL!!! He was extremely prompt with his contact and the original price quote. During the entire process, he answered any questions we had with in 24 hours. His work was wonderful and he even made some alterations without and extra service fees. I have already recommended him to friends and family. For any other work needed at my house, I will be using him again.

After meeting with and receiving quotes from 3 contractors we decided to go with Central Construction Group. Brian (the owner) sat with us after our initial interview with a very detailed free estimate and went through it line by line. This was a very big deal for us to finish the basement and he was patient and understanding. We chose CCG because their quote was competitive, seemed fair and we felt comfortable with Brian. He was sincere and flexible throughout the whole process. No construction project is perfect, but Brian was diligent with keeping us updated and taking care of any issues in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Finished most of our unfinished basement. The extra unfinished space was left for a storage and workout area. A full bathroom and small bar were included in the finished portion.
I had been getting quotes from multiple contractors to do some different renovations in my home and to figure out a way to add a second bathroom. Brian was definitely the most genuine and was the most detailed in his assessment. Brian helped me figure out the basement was the best room for me to renovate and was able to provide a detailed quote. I could tell he spent a lot of time upfront getting accurate estimates (even though his quotes are free) and as a result the whole project went very smoothly. Practically everything went according to plan and absolutely nothing increased in cost (some items came in lower), except for specific things I chose to add or finishes that I wanted to upgrade (i.e. I ended up choosing a nicer carpet than I originally planned). I was the type of person that had a lot of questions and comments throughout the process, and Brian was always very responsive and patient. One of the big things for me was making sure that Brian and his team would be okay setting and dis-arming our security system and keeping our pet gates closed since we have two cats that needed to be kept out of the basement and also separated from each other, which wasn't a problem for them at all.

I can't say enough good things about Central Construction Group, Brian Oltmann and his construction workers. Everyone who worked on our bathroom was the top of their trade. They always cleaned up when finished and tarps were always used to protect flooring etc. They were always here when they said they would be and on time. My remodel started close to the holidays and they worked extremely hard to give me a finished bath by Christmas and they DID!!!! I have never had such a great experience with a contractor. Anyone who hires Brian Oltmann can't go wrong!!

He went above and beyond for us and all of his workers were professional, courteous, and cleaned up every day. We were most impressed with Brian's communication regarding the schedule and all of our questions. We would not hesitate to recommend Central Construction Group to all of our friends and family. We hope to work with them again in the future!

What is most impressive with Brian's company was his incredible communication skills. He did an exceptional job of keeping us informed and "in the loop" every step of the way. We knew what was coming when, when exactly to expect workers, etc. For us, a family with children, this was very important in our day-to-day functioning--and not feeling harried or frazzled with the renovation. I have dealt with contractors before that say something will happen and it doesn't--for days! Brian is outstanding at making sure everything "flows" and that one part of the job follows quickly on the heels of another. That feels great as the customer. We are now in the process of renovating a third bathroom and kitchen--Brian is the only one we spoke with in regards to doing the work. We know we will get excellent service at a good price in a very timely fashion. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone--they are getting a gem!
Description of Work: We had two full baths that needed complete renovation. One of them was actually leaking from the second floor down into our living room. Both bathrooms were completely gutted and then redone. Half-walls were removed, flooring removed, vanities, tubs and toilets removed. Lighting was removed. The bathroom that was leaking was checked for mold (of which there was thankfully little), cleaned and then sealed in a multitude of ways. The tile was reinstalled--in my mind, this was expertly done. Brian worked with me to have a vanity created like I had envisioned, but at a much reduced cost. All items I had chosen were reinstalled. Our bathrooms look beautiful--and don't leak!!!

Brian listened to what we wanted and made our dream come to life. He explained every process and got back to us quickly with any of our questions. Everyone who worked in our house was polite, neat, and punctual. We received an email at least weekly outlining what to expect for the week. Towards the end of the project, we had a slight problem with the washing machine. Brian was called, came to check it out and then stayed to do a load of laundry to be sure and even folded it! Losing the use of your kitchen is stressful, but Brian made the process very tolerable.
Description of Work: We had the kitchen in our 90 year old home completely renovated. Plaster and lathe were removed, new insulation, drywall, cabinets, floors, counter tops, lighting, and all woodwork stripped of paint and stained.
It was a perfect transaction. From the detailed line by line quote to the end. Brian was upfront with the costs, and where the costs might fluctuate. Always in contact with what would be done when, and who would be in the house. Professional and easy to work with. The workers that did the work were also all professional and respectful. They were prompt and if any changes were needed they were done without hesitation. Staying within a budget was big for us, and we managed to come extremely close to the projected project amount. Friends and family are amazed at the quality and professionalism.
Description of Work: Finished Full Basement from framing to drywall carpet and electrical.
It started off quite well, I was very impressed with Brian from the beginning to the end of the project. Professionalism, focused and attention to detail in the quotation phase best describes why I chose Brian's company. During the project I found that everything we had discussed happened and without any delays or problems. Brian is very accommodating and I always felt he was sincerely concerned about my needs and he planned all of the work schedules to benefit my time frame. We will continue working together in the future.

They stayed in touch with us very well from day to day regarding their progress and timing. We used them to repair the many holes left behind when we had insulation added to our home. They did a great job.

Experience was excellent. His team that came in were very polite and on time. They were very clean and professional and did an excellent job. They also were very considerate and polite to our kids. They made sure things were clean before they left. Brian took a lot of time to research and find the most cost officiant flooring for us with in our budget. He met us at stores and asked questions that we would not have thought to ask. We have used Brian and his company before and remain very happy with him and his company. Brian goes above and beyond what we ask for. He is honest and gave 100% to us and our house. Whoever hires Brian Oltman with Central Construction Group will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Central Construction Group tore out all of our floors which was approx 4000 sq ft. and put in all new carpet on the upstairs and basement floors as well as tore out existing wood on main floor and replaced this with Bamboo wood and new shoe molding.

Brian came recommended from a relative who was very impressed with his work ethic. Brian was extremely professional and very trustworthy. The work was started when I was out of town and I provided access to my house in my absence. They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves each night. I never was worried someone was in my house when I wasn't there. The work was completed in a timely manner and I was kept informed of the progress. The project was right on target. I would highly recommend Central Construction and plan to have them do some additional work for me.
Description of Work: Stall shower was totally ripped out, concrete board installed and triple water proofed behind the tile, new ceramic tile installed and grouted and tile flooring installed replacing the fiberglass flooring. All mold was treated! New fixtures and shower doors installed as well as an insert for shampoo and small shelf for items.Carpet was put back in place. Drywall repair was completed due to damage caused by water and painted and baseboards were varnished to match the rest of the bathroom.
Brian Oltmann and his contractors were excellent. Brian was on top of everything. Very polite, always on time and very honest. He gave us honest advice from the beginning to the end. The contractors he brought in to do the work were just as honest and professional and they were also always on time and worked around my schedule. They also cleaned up after any messes. Brian also emailed his quotes in a very timely manner and was always there for my husband and I when we had many questions. I would recommend Brian Oltmann-Central Construction Group to everyone. You will not be disappointed!
