It's been 3 months since I had to deal with Service Experts and their manager, Faizzy, and I'm still spreading the word to avoid this company at all costs. About 2 years ago I left a glowing review on Angie's List about the company, but based on my most recent service and the trend of reviews on this website, things are going downhill fast for Service Experts. Initially, our heat pump stopped working and they replaced the coil in the air handler. It took a week to get this part replaced; they came out on a weekend and they told us the part would be ordered on Monday. We never heard back, so we called at least once a day 4 days and left messages with employees before we finally got the job scheduled. During this process, Service Expert employees took turns throwing other employees under the bus by blaming another co-worker for the poor communication. We should have broken ties at that time, but we had a yearly contract with them and wanted the "discount" that came along with it. Eventually, the part was replaced for $1500 ($1000 was for labor!). Unfortunately for us, they didn't check the whole system and we also had a fan on the air conditioning unit that needed an easily replaceable part fixed (we learned this when we got a second opinion from Howald); within 1 week the system stopped working again. That was when the process turned ugly. After a polite argument with Faizzy the manager, they agreed upon a credit toward a new unit. They sent a salesman out to quote units and this was the only part of the process during which the employee was professional and kind. Their quote was ~ $8000 after taking the $1500 credit into consideration. We thought this was high and decided to get additional quotes and interestingly all of them were $1500 to $2000 less than Service Experts. We didn't want to lose out on the "credit" so we attempted some hard negotiating with no avail. Eventually, Faizzy offered us a $518 credit plus a credit for our 2014 service contract to go away; it still took 2 weeks and 2 follow-up calls before they processed the refund. Overall, Service Experts was the most expensive and least professional of all the heating and cooling companies we worked with during this process. They claim their prices are justified because they provide better service than their competitors - don't believe them! I recommend using Howald instead.
Description of Work: Originally attempted to fix a heat pump system. Also quoted for a system replacement.

I have called and written and have been told numerous times that the install manager would follow up with me. I have received no communication and this is unacceptable. I want a heat duct correctly installed in our basement laundry room, and I would appreciate prompt and professional communication. This is a follow up: the company is trying to make amends. They have discontinued their call service (1800) which has resulted in a great improvement. The installation manager , apologizing for the incorrect installation, came and inspected and sent a tech to install a new duct. After a couple days, the new duct filled with water (condensation) because it was incorrectly installed.. The furnace stopped working. They sent another tech to repair the incorrect installation right away. The furnace and fan were repaired at no charge. They tried to make the errors right, which I appreciated. The techs did not clean up after themselves so I am still cleaning up cement in the basement, but compared to being without a duct or heat, this is minor. I appreciated the attitude of Mike, who was trying to make the business responsive.
Description of Work: We had a furnace, humidifier installed about a year ago. The installers did not put a heat duct into our basement laundry area (which also houses a shower). I have called and written and have been told numerous times that the install manager would follow up with me. I have received no communication and this is unacceptable.

Appt scheduled for 8/29(Friday) between noon and 2pm. Their office called before noon and said the tech was running late, but would be there between 1-2pm. Tech never showed, so I called the office back. Was told tech is still on another job, but would be there. Eric showed up around 4pm, took a look at the heater, and then ran to the supply store for a part. Came back, did more work, then stated he needed an additional part, but supply store was closed. He scheduled me for 8am the next day(Saturday) and would send Keith, their plumber, to complete the repair. At this time, Eric also stated that, because it was a holiday weekend, the supply store would require a $150 store opening fee. We negotiated to split this cost, since he had run late. All is good, at this point. Expectation is, after 2 full days of no hot water, I would be showering blissfully Saturday morning. 8am Saturday rolls around, and no Keith. At 845am, I called the Service Experts office, spoke to Tracy. Said she would have Keith call me. In the meantime, I called the supply store (Lee Supply, per Eric). Very nice gentleman answered, said yes, they were closed, but he would open for emergencies for a $75 fee. I asked if service Experts had called him, and he said no. Hmmmmm... Keith called back a few minutes later, and said that Eric did not give him a specific time, nor was he sure that the supply store had the part needed. Frustrated, I then asked him why Service Experts would tell me that Lee Supply's store opening charge was $150, when it was only $75? And why would I be scheduled for 8am if there was no guaranty that the part needed was available? Tempers erupted on both sides, and I advised Keith I would not want him in my home, given the circumstances. I then called the Service Experts office again, and requested a call back from the manager. To his credit, Mark (service manager) called back fairly promptly. After explaining the issues, he then offered to have Keith come look at the water heater. I respectfully declined. Overall, I'm very unhappy with two things: 1. Miscommunication on the part of Service Experts 2. Blatant attempt (in my opinion) to pad their bill.
Description of Work: Water heater stopped working. I called Service Experts, since Broad Ripple H/C (bought by Service Experts)had done the original install 5 years ago, and the appliance was still under warranty.

Not everyone buys a new furnace in the middle of summer, but we did! During our yearly AC inspection, the technician noted that the furnace blower was on its last legs. Knowing from previous inspections that the furnace as a whole was on the verge of total disrepair, we opted to replace the furnace. We took advantage of a summer sale. We also got a discount for being a preferred customer. The only problem to be tackled with the installation was the location of the water heater which blocked access to the furnace. Since Service Experts also offers plumbing services, the plumber was scheduled to arrive first thing in the morning to move the heater before the furnace arrived. The sales representative came on a Thursday afternoon, and before he left, we had all of the work scheduled for the very next day to accommodate our rapidly approaching vacation. We wanted the furnace replaced ASAP so we wouldn't come home to a hot house. The installation made for a long day, but we've been very pleased with the results. We know we have a reliable furnace for the upcoming winter and we're assured a cool home for the rest of summer. By moving the water heater, all of the utilities are easily accessible. A big win/win situation.

I had a very bad experience with them. They now have a new name. They told me it was faulty so I ended up replacing it and paid a fortune for it. It was probably twice as much as if I'd gone with another plumbing/heating company. Then they told me that my gas furnace was no good and it needed to be repaired because I had dangerous fumes going into my rental house. I had a gentleman that had done a lot of work on my rental properties come out with a laser thing and he said that it was totally false. They checked the heat exchanger and it was fine. I had a supervisor out there and he said that it was a new installer they brought up from Louisville. I said this man defrauded me. He said that I was right and that he would give me 2 service calls and I said no that he would give me some money back and the 2 service calls. They were really kind of scary. They finally gave me a little bit of money back. I would not recommend those people to anybody. I got pretty well worked over by them.

Our primary contact- George Snell- explained the alternatives to us, and specified a Lennox high-efficiency residential HVAC system that would provide adequate capacity for our house, but not more than necessary. The installation crew was prompt and professional, and completed the tear-down of the old units and installation of the new in one day. They fully explained how to set up the WiFi-enabled thermostat. George Snell also advised us on additional insulation required to help our new system operate at maximum efficiency, and arranged for a subcontractor to perform the work. He also worked with us to submit applications to Lennox and to Citizens Gas for available rebates. We are very satisfied with the HVAC system that Service Experts specified and installed. Their personnel, particularly George Snell, were very professional and responsive. I would highly recommend them to anyone for installation of an HVAC system.

We have used Service Experts, also known as Broad Ripple Heating, for years because their technicians do a good job servicing our boiler (two previous companies broke it on multiple occasions). When we called them about our failing AC unit, they gave us a thorough and accurate set of estimates for different options, and spent a lot of time answering our questions. Unlike many other providers, they do not have a hard-sell attitude. They scheduled installation promptly, suggested a better route for the wiring and piping, and noticed that the exhaust vent was rusting out. They replaced it for a small additional fee. The AC unit we had ordered was out of stock, so they gave us a free upgrade. As always it was a pleasure to work with Service Experts/Broad Ripple, who are professional and highly competent service providers.

When we moved into our home 4 years ago, we had Broadripple Heating and Cooling and Village Plumbing do extensive work - all because they had good reviews on Angie's List. We had a tankless water heater and water softener installed at that time, along with other plumbing needs. So when my outside faucets were leaking, thinking I might need new faucets, I called Service Experts, because I thought it was the same company with which we had had a good experience. WRONG. I should have paid more attention to Angie's List this time. The appointment time was set for between 12 and 2 o'clock but they called and said they would not be here then and arrived at about 5:00. That was not a problem. They came into the house and the first thing they asked when they saw the Rinnai water heater was if we had been having it serviced each year. I said no one had told us that was necessary and they said we should be doing that and it cost about $225 to have it serviced each year. They talked to us about purchasing their maintenance agreement and how that would save us money. They then walked around the house (did not try the outside faucets to check the leaks) and then looked under the bathroom sinks to see the connections for the outside faucets. Then they calculated the cost of the service to be $749, including the service agreement. My husband and I were somewhat speechless at the cost and then my husband became more vocal (not too nice, I'm sorry to say) but we let them schedule the work. Then the serviceman said, "How do you want to pay for today?" I said what are we paying for and he said "a diagnostic call for $99." With that my husband said to cancel the service call because it became apparent that we were being taken advantage of (we are in our 70's). The serviceman said we were told when we made the appointment that there would be a $99 fee, but that is simply not true. I would never have agreed to pay $99 for them to tell me what I had already told them! I will give the serviceman credit - when I told him I was not told about the $99 diagnostic fee, he did tear up the check I had written, which we appreciated. Perhaps because my husband said that we would put this on Angie's List. We were certainly willing to pay for the diagnostic call, but did not want to be further ripped off. Since that time, we called another plumber who told us what to try to fix it ourselves and it worked, at least for now. When we have further plumbing needs, we will not be using Service Experts.

I have not been satisfied with this group since our new installation. We had a 30+ year old furnace that finally needed replacement: The new furnace was installed but they kept an old part (a heavy door and hinge) that I asked to have replaced as it makes it hard to change our filter. I also see that they removed the vent entirely from our laundry room, so the room is quite cold in winter. The workmanship appeared ok, but we have had to have several visits to repair/replace/correct errors. The parts have been included but labor charges are high and the repair people seem to consistently want to "up-sell" us on items we don't need. In addition they seem rather disengaged, not oriented to the customer or to attending to our feedback. I'm having them back one more time to see if they can correct the noise from the fan and A/C, which is quite loud. They often want to reschedule or come at a time when we are not available. I plan to change repair services after this call.
Description of Work: repaired faulty fan parts have had them back three times to repair the repair our furnace is new(er) in the last two years and the a/c unit even newer. the parts were included in the warranty but labor charges were not included.

It really angers me that they still - as of the last time I called - are answering the phone as "Broadripple Heating and Air" because before Broadripple became Service Experts, they were one of the finest, most customer service oriented companies I have ever dealt with. And Service Experts is by far the worst. I called because furnace was running but not heating because the heating unit was shutting off. Repairman told me I needed a different filter "merv 4" instead of the "merv 8" I had used. Cost was $101.00 Jan24.2014 I called the next day and said it was still doing exactly the same thing. He came out again and said that the thermostat had a little corrosion on it and could burn out the entire furnace if not replaced. So He ordered a new thermostat and installed it a few days later - Cost $432.00 Feb 4,2014 I called the next day and told him (and his manager) that the furnace was still doing the same thing. They said they would be out the next morning after the first appointment of the day which was in my area of town. I cancelled my appointments for that day and waited all day - they never called or showed up. I called the office that evening and I was fuming. The man who answered my call said first that there had been no appointment for me made that morning. When I insisted that there WAS an appointment right after the first one in the morning he told me "Oh I see what happened - it says here the customer cancelled the appointment" I said that I was the customer and I most certainly didn't cancel because I wanted them to see that the new thermostat did not fix the problem and was not needed in the first place. I also demanded that customer service contact me the next day. I NEVER received a call, in spite of follow up calls to see what had happened. A couple of weeks later I got a call from customer service wanting to know - apparently clueless about my issue - just checking to see if I was satisfied with the service, When I told him the whole story 'again' he promised to have someone get some answers for me. I never received a return call. I decided that I would try replacing the Merv 4 filter with one of the original type installed - a plain $2.00 fiberglass filter - and FINALLY my furnace was fixed - On Feb 20 they called me to remind me of my furnace checkup (this was already paid by yearly contract so I set up the appointment) .. they performed the check and maintenance and found everything working fine. Sometime later (? 2 weeks?) later I called again to inform them that I would be filling out my Angies' List evaluation and I was giving them one last chance to answer my complaint. I never heard from then again

Before I could get the fall service done in 2013, I sold the house. I made two telephone calls with the company trying to get the service moved to my new address, but they told me this cannot be done because the contract was for my old address. They told me I had to write a letter asking for a refund of $90.00 for the unused portion of my contract. I did that in February, but have had no response and no refund. Meanwhile, their contracted calling service continues to call me and ask me when I want to schedule the second half of the service agreement I had with them at the old house. I have stopped taking these calls because the person who calls has no authority to look into the matter of my refund or even make a note to stop calling me about the old address, or so it seems. When I spoke to the company in February, I was asked whether I wanted to go ahead and make a new agreement for my new house while waiting for the refund on the agreement for the old house, and I am glad I did not. I have been using this company for years, beginning when they were Broad Ripple Heating and Cooling. Their customer service and ability to deal with problems such as mine have deteriorated since the company has grown into Service Experts. I will never use this company's service again.

Later on I attempted to confirm the quoted price and work details but calls were not returned. Did not hire them for the sewer line replacement.
Description of Work: Big Deal sewer camera and clean. Camera failed due to muddy water in line which couldn't be cleaned. Complaint was made and supervisor arrived, cleaned the lined but never re-videoedthe line; he just gave me an estimate for replacement.

The field person does his job well but the office personnel seem to follow a different standard. Office contact was less than helpful & put me off. Needed to talk to service man and would call back. Three days later & no response. Billing department created a bill & submitted to my credit card company without my permission or knowledge. I question their procedures & ethics on accounts created by their office personnel,
Description of Work: Billed my credit card without my authorization for a service done & paid for on 1/16/2013.

They installed the furnace humidifer in infront of the heat exchanger instead of after which deafeted its purpose. They installed the electrical wiring for the furnace without regard for home safety, in that, instead of running one continous 12 Gauge electrical cable to the furnace kill switch from a junction box, two 12 Gauge wires were found crudely spliced ( black taped) inside the vertical protective metal tube leading to the ceiling. Thereby leaving a 7 inch link of electrical cable with only one layer of thin insulation between it and the metal tube.
Description of Work: They installed new furnace and humidifer.

They did a great job. The latch on the humidifier broke while they were servicing the furnace and the repairman believed that it wasn't put on right the last time the furnace was serviced. However, they ordered a new part and got it replaced.
Description of Work: They cleaned the furnace and changed the filters as part of our maintenance agreement.

The experience so far has been quite bad. The furnace was installed about 5 years ago and we have had nothing but problems with it. They have replaced the heat pump and it still has not solved it. Now they are replacing some other parts. They don't follow up well with estimation for arrival of parts or estimated dates of repair. The reason that I went with them initially was because they said they were on Angie's List.
Description of Work: They installed my furnace and heat pump and I am now on a service plan.
