Augusta Underground had a price comparable to other contractors. First, a connection fee permit had to be obtained by the homeowner from Carmel Water Company, which cost $1310. Next, a permit and a tap into the new water main had to be coordinated with the new water company. This cost $333. This was coordinated and accomplished by Augusta Underground. Unfortunately, Augusta Underground did not mention that they were coordinating this detail, but I learned from my contacts with another company that Augusta Underground was a well-known and highly respected company. On the designated day, everyone arrived on time. Augusta Underground excavated a pit near the water main, and also dug a small pit near the water entry point into the house. They bored a hole from the water main pit under the driveway and front yard to the pit near the house and installed the water line. The new water company staff arrived to tap the main, and Augusta Underground connected from the tap to the curbside meter and completed the final connection to the house. As this was an older house, an optional pressure regulator was installed to reduce the 85 psi main pressure to a nominal 60 psi for domestic use. This cost $175. The higher pressure could have fractured the old lines and resulted in leaks. Lisa Kempa at Carmel Water (Hamilton County) was very helpful in providing information. Our water heater had accumulated about 6 8 of silt in the bottom from the well water. We had to install a new water heater ($300) to completely eliminate the offensive odor from the household water.

It went really well. Their estimate was the same as what they charged. I had to leave at 2 and they weren't done yet, so I had to trust them at my house, which was okay. They cleaned up everything and did everything the way I wanted. The owner was a real nice guy and the workers were friendly too.

I contacted them for an estimate. The first thing they did was have the utility finders come out and survey the area. It took about 3 days for that to get done. They then came out and provided an estimate. I accepted their proposal via phone and fax. There was a little glitch in the scheduling. They said that it would be in about two weeks from my acceptance, but they ended up doing the work in about 4 days after acceptance. It got done while I was on vacation. No problem though. It was finished when I got back. The installation looks good and the water is now far away from my house.

We found Augusta through Angie's List but subsequently had several recommendations from neighbors and even another contractor that I had called for this job. We had multiple quotes for this work and they were by far the cheapest. They connected our home to the city sewers and several weeks later hooked us up to city water as well. They were very polite and their work was clean and quick. They came in right at their estimates. While trying to schedule the work and get estimates we would have to wait longer than expected at times for call backs, but this seemed to be true of every business in this field. They were quite helpful in working with the city/county as well.
Description of Work: They connected us to both municipal water and sewers.

They came out in a timely manner and completed the job. They covered the pipe and restored the yard which I was pleased to see. The down side was the cost. I feel the cost was too high, but our choices were limited because the repair had to be made by someone the water company had approved. Or least that is what I was told.

THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE WAS GIVEN ON 4/30/08 OF $2500 AND THE CONTRACT WAS WRITTEN AND SIGNED ON 5/1/08 BY THE CUSTOMER FOR $2500. THE PRICE WAS NEVER CHANGED. HE STATED THAT HIS CHOICE OF CONTRACTORS WERE LIMITED BECAUSE OF THE WATER COMPANY. WE ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY INDIANAPOLIS WATER CO, HOWEVER THE WATER COMPANY HAS AN ENTIRE LIST OF OTHER APPROVED CONTRACTORS THEY COULD HAVE RECOMMENDED. THE $1500 OR $1750 ESTIMATES HE IS REFERRING TO DID NOT COME FROM US, HOWEVER THOSE ARE REASONABLE ESTIMATES TO ONLY REPLACE THE WATER LINE FROM THE METER PIT TO THE HOUSE. THIS WAS A DIFFICULT EMERGENCY JOB BECAUSE OF OBSTACLES THAT REQUIRED US TO NOT ONLY REPLACE THE SERVICE LINE, WE ALSO HAD TO CUT THE LINE LIVE (WATER SQUIRTING EVERYWHERE), AND MOVE THE METER PIT FROM THE DRIVEWAY TO THE YARD PER INDIANAPOLIS WATER COMPANY'S REQUEST. OUR CONTRACT ALSO STATES THAT "PAYMENT IS DUE IN FULL UPON COMPLETION OF WATER HOOK-UP, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN WRITING." FULL PAYMENT WAS NOT RECEIVED UNTIL 5/21/08 AFTER SEVERAL INVOICES AND PHONES CALLS WERE MADE.

The Augusta Team was helpful in explaining all of the services they would be providing, specifically taking the time to put the project in layman terms. Additionally, the delivery of service/project was professional, courteous and efficient. I was most impressed by the sense of pride that the Augusta Team showed in their work which was absolutely reflective in the outcome.

I called and left a voice mail early Monday morning about some water in our basement. Someone called me back the next day and asked me about our house and the problem. He was very nice, gave some ideas about what could be causing it and told me he needed to talk to the guy in the field and would call me back. He didn't call back until the next day and then simply said they were too busy and he couldn't help me.

They did excellent work. The problem was a basement floor drain that began to back up during heavy rains after 25 years without problems. the drain is connected to the city's sanitary sewer system. The first plumber thought he'd solved the problem, but it recurred. The city inspector said it wasn't their problem when he came out to look, but he failed to notice that a sewer manhole in front of the house was "missing". A sewer televising service located the blockage in the line between the house and the city sanitary sewer out near the street. AU gave us an estimate to dig up and replace a section of the sewer line between the house and the street: $4000. However, once they had uncovered the city's manhole in the street, they tried once again augering the line rather than digging right away. Ultimately, this worked. They cleared the blockage without having to dig up the yard. Their efforts saved us at least $2500. They're a small outfit, but are extraordinary people to work with.
Description of Work: Augusta Underground (AU) augered and cleaned the sewer line from the house to the city sewer. They disconnected downspouts that had not been properly disconnected from the city sewer by the previous owner. They noticed something that the city inspector hadn't noticed. A sanitary sewer manhole in front of the house had been paved over by the city, of course. In the course of doing the work, the city was supposed to come out and dig up the manhole so Augusta Underground could fix our sewer. When the city failed to show up, AU asked and received permission to do it themselves. That's when we learned that the city wasn't planning to come out for another TWO WEEKS!!! The city didn't seem to care that sewage was backing up into the basement of a home. AU used a metal detector to locate the manhole and uncovered it for the city. This gave AU better access to the problem area adjacent to the street.

I had a damaged/leaking main sewer line. Steve @ Augusta came on site to understand the problem and recommend a solution that hadn't occurred to me. Took the extra time to inspect the crawl space and understand the scope of the problem. Scheduling the services was little informal, but it all worked out. On the day of the service, a small army of men arrived to perform the work. The ground was extremely muddy do the rain/snow, but the crew made good efforts to minimize damage to the grass. The exterior excavation went fine. The sub-contracted plumber ran into unexpected problems in the crawl space. Had they known the condition of the pipes/crawlspace, the plumber may not have taken the job, but he was very professional and did the work as agreed in probably filthy conditions. Job took about 5 hours and they worked straight through until completed. They repaired the yard damage as best they could. Very satisfied with the work.

This was one of the first major projects that had to be done to our home upon moving in - and it was very overwhelming. The Augusta staff made the experience less stressful with their ability to troubleshoot the problem all the way through the project. They encountered several obstacles - first the mark of the obstruction in the sewer pipe was off causing the crew to dig by hand underneath the street where they uncovered the problem - saving us time and money. They worked quickly and thoroughly until the job was complete.
Description of Work: A section of our clay sewer pipe needed to be removed and replaced with approx. 6' of PVC. The job entailed digging a 6' w x 8' deep section of our property in between the city street and sidewalk.

I cannot praise them highly enough. The horror of the hole, mitigated only by the fact that none of the 3 cars or the one walker and dog had fallen into it in the dark of the morning, made for a crisis. I called Angie's List (our computer wasn't working then either!) and a very helpful man gave me names to call, one of which was Augusta Underground. Cliff was calm and kind and said he'd try to get the men to look at it after their work was done that day. The men came, tired though they were, assessed the situation, returned to the shop, planned what needed to be done, rearranged their schedule for the next day (thank you to whichever customer had to wait), and they arrived here the next morning, repaired the entire problem with many trucks and loads of materials as well as a scoop to remove the clogging debris. They were all very polite and hard working. Over the phone, Cliff said they try to treat customers as neighbors. They succeed.
Description of Work: Filled a 6x8 foot hole in our driveway at the bridge over a creek. The swollen creek waters, unable to flow through the culverts because of blockage by massive tree branches and brush, had eroded this gigantic hole overnight. Augusta Underground filled the hole with concrete reinforcement against existing timbers, put rip-rap along the bank, topped with #8 driveway stone and graded. They also removed all the tree stumps, branches, and brush that had clogged the culverts.
