Audio Electronics was founded in 1973 by Robert L. Nevitt. Robert always had a passion for music, both singing
and playing. He enjoyed building stereo speaker systems for himself. In high school he took several courses in
Electronics. He worked at the RCA Corporation directly out of high school. Further education led to his degree in
Electronics Engineering Technology. After graduation, he worked for a premier Aerospace electronics manufacturer
where reliability was the keyword in all their manufactured products for military and commercial aircraft.
In 1972 Robert moved back to his home town of Indianapolis. He began there by working for a privately owned
stereo repair shop, and in 1973 started his own business… Audio Electronics! He took what he had learned in the
Aerospace Industry and applied this to the repair and installation of automobile electronics equipment.

It went really well. The sales guy was super knowledgeable. They had a nice selection of remote starters and stereos. The stereo is a replacement for my factory stereo. The stereo has iPod, mp3, bluetooth, and speakerphone capability. It is way better than trying to listen to headphones to use the iPod in the truck. The remote start is also amazing for a truck that has never seen the inside of a garage.

I called concerning the possibility of improving the Bluetooth speaker in my car. Talked to Bob, who told me he would check into it and have Seth call me back within the hour. Approximately 5 minutes later, Seth called with the information I needed, was very thorough with details and a price quote. Very professional and helpful business!

Excellent. No problems. Works as promised. Staff very professional and helpful. Lifetime guarantee on work. Can't speak to price. Did not shop around. This is the second time I've used Audio Electronics. Back in the 1980s they installed an Alpine sound system in my Honda and did a great job.

I am slow to give or write a bad review. This is not a typical experience for me, most stores, service providers, and vendors I deal with are great. I am writing in so much detail on this because this experience was so unusual for me. I hope it will provide more for you to base your decision on when it comes to what you need versus my experience with Audio Electronics. My experience showed that they lack product knowledge. It demonstrated that the lack of knowledge results in overcharging for unnecessary work. It showed that poor workmanship is easy to come by here. It sheds doubt on what skills are possessed beyond the basics like a simple removal of a disc stuck in someones radio. It wasn't just one installer or one salesman, it was the entire experience that brought me to write this. This is my experience: I visited the store a week before the installation. I was shopping for a radio that had a specific feature, a rear auxiliary input. I was waited on by the store manage. I discussed what I was looking for with him at length. He said they did not have a radio that had such a feature any more that would fit in my 1984 vehicle. Before coming into the store I knew that Pioneer had sold many radios in the past that had such a feature and asked if there were any remaining "old" new stock that could be purchased or found. He offered to look and call me back. He took my number and promised to call back the next day. The call never came. In the mean time I had been impressed by the reviews both here and on google on their skills so I proceeded to look online to find something that could be purchased and installed by them. Seth ( the manager) had told me they would be glad to do the installation and even broker the purchase if I could find one to be installed. So I looked on Ebay and right away found a Pioneer (one of the only two brands Audio Electronics sells) that had a rear auxiliary input. I then went to the Pioneer web site to see when it had been discontinued. On Pioneer's site I found out the radio was a current model! It was for sale to anyone who wanted it. So I called the store back and asked for Seth again. I asked about the specific model that I had found and asked to confirm that it was available and did have the rear input. He said yes it was for sale and would check if it had the rear input. He put me on hold then came back to confirm it does indeed have the rear input. So right here I have a case where the store manager promised to call me back then didn't. Then I have a case where the store manager has a complete lack of understanding of the product line he is selling. Still for some reason I proceeded to go ahead with the company based on all those reviews that said they were so good. Well the manager said they did not have the radio in stock but could get it in a day. The price would be only $20 under list price. $330 vs full retail list of $350. I understand this is how the place makes a living but ebay was selling it for $239 - free shipping. That is a lot of mark up for a product I had to find myself and still there is more bad news for me ahead in the installation in terms of up selling and over charging that I was unaware of. I scheduled a date for installation a week out. I dropped the vehicle off the night before and left the keys with the store. They had it for the whole day to do the install. They said it would only take a couple of hours. I called at 4:45pm and it was not done but they said it would be shortly. At 5:15 it was "finished" . The store manager took me out to sit in the vehicle with me and go over my newly installed radio. We started with the basics. We turned it on, well we tried to. It wouldn't come on. It had been wired into the motor home's ignition DESPITE typed written instructions as well as verbal instructions left with both the manager and the installer that it was not to be wired into the ignition. Strike one. Then we went to listen to it. As the manager started showing me the radio's basics something just didn't seem right to me. I asked him if we could just do a simple test and fade the audio from front to back and left to right. He said sure. When we did it became obvious strike two was at hand. The audio was completely miss-wired. A full fade to the rear resulted in some front speakers on and some rear speakers on. A full fade to the front and only one speaker worked anywhere. Full left got left and right speakers working. It was a mess! By about 6pm the install was complete, or as complete as they were going to make it. I paid and left. The radio is a high end unit, very advanced in all it can do. On the way home I was unimpressed in the sound quality. I had asked that if the existing speakers were an issue that they be replaced. All along they seemed less than enthusiastic to replace the speakers. Still here I sat with a fantastic radio that sounded like poop. I felt maybe it was just poor set up, maybe it needed tweaking. I received NO instruction on the usage of the unit. So when I got home I went on line and read the manual. I tried a lot of things to get it sounding better and it does sound better, but not good. In hind sight I think the reason they didn't want to sell me speakers was because it was just too much trouble to get them into my vehicle, there wasn't enough money in it. That is the impression I have now having made three trips to the shop and listened to two salesmen and two installers. But on to strike three... Strike three is the rear audio input that started this whole thing. I wanted that input tied into the existing audio source from the rear of the motor home. It was nothing complicated, simple line level audio coming from a TV. The wire was already run from the rear and awaiting the installer on the drivers side floor of the cab with a label on the wire. Pretty simple stuff. Put a connector on the wire and plug it in. But that is not what they did. They sold me a amplifier that wasn't needed. How do I know? Well for starters when I got home and tried the TV audio there was a huge buzz in the audio. I investigated and found the amplifier they installed was wired to the ignition, the very thing they were instructed NOT to do. Additionally and most importantly, IT WASN'T NEEDED TO BEGIN WITH! The installer put it in because he thought there was not enough audio level coming from the TV (that it what he told me directly when I questioned why it was installed). What he failed to mention was the radio has a switch that that the installer is supposed to set when installing the radio that sets the input for high or low. He set it for low then boosted the input to an incredible level to get it through and into the radio. I removed the amplifier, set the switch to high and the radio worked like a charm. No buzz, no unneeded equipment or drain on the battery. The audio was clear and hum free with all the volume I could ever need. So strike three, selling things you don't need, hiding them, then installing them improperly when they do install them. I went back the next day to talk about the lifetime warranty on the installation. Needless to say I was not impressed by the reviews anymore. The drive across town in a motor home cost some big gasoline bucks. Only because of their negligence, inexperience, lack of product knowledge and skill did I have to make that trip and sit around for hours as they fixed a poor installation. I asked for compensation while leaving it to the discretion of the manager to decide what would be appropriate. I made no demand, only asked kindly for some recourse. The answer, Nothing, not a dime, not a discount on future products or service, nothing! When you get that kind of response from the manager who is fully aware of the entire situation it speaks volumes to me. I hope it will speak volumes to future customers to be as well. When confronted with the evidence and motor home itself working fine with out it, they did admit the amp was unneeded and removed it. They gave me a exact dollar for dollar refund on the price of the amplifier that was removed and $8.55 off the $190 worth of installation charges. I was not impressed. Given the installers complete lack of skill I am sure he spent more than $8.55 worth of time figuring out he needed to put in the amp that wasn't needed rather than just reading the instruction manual like I did. Be careful before using this company. I was lucky to have a background in electronics and know what to look for to find theses errors and negligence. Many people would have just been fooled. PS I forgot to mention, when I went back the third time I showed them wires I had discovered that were left dangling and bare, exposed to shorting out from where the old radio had been removed. They kindly put tape on them and stuffed them back up under the dash. It is typical of the workmanship you can expect as of 2013.

Response from Audio Electronics
My name is Seth Halstead and I am the store manager for Audio Electronics. I would first like to thank [member name removed] for taking the time to review us. Although mistakes can be made, we appreciate consumers taking the time to review us so that we know what we are doing right and what we need to be doing to improve. I would like to respond to the key points that [member name removed] has made. In regards to the lack of product knowledge, I take deep offense to this as this couldn’t be further from the truth. When [member name removed] came in looking for a single din non-video radio that had a rear aux input, I told him I would search for a product that met his budget and requirements. I actively pursued this, keeping the paperwork next to my computer to keep it fresh in my mind. [member name removed] called back and said that he hadn’t heard from me. I simply stated that I had been actively searching but still hadn’t found a solution. When he stated that he found that the Pioneer DEH-80PRS did have a rear aux input, this was news to me. I again checked the Pioneer literature and website, and it clearly stated “Front Aux In.” I downloaded the owner’s manual, looked at the back of the radio and saw that it did indeed have a rear aux in. I agreed that this would be a great solution. We had never stocked this radio before, so I was excited to order it and see how it worked. As far as the time frame goes, “a couple of hours” was and never would have been stated. The agreement was to drop the rv off for the day and that we would call when it was finished. This was an extremely busy day for us. [member name removed] was correct in regards to the wiring of the stereo. In 1984, some vehicles used a common ground system, which is very different than what today’s vehicles use. Our newest installer was on this job and thought that he had the system wired correctly, but after testing fading with the customer, we found that this was done incorrectly. We referred to our other older installer, and he explained how to correctly wire an older common ground system. Our installer learned from this mistake and will remember how to correctly wire the system if we ever see another 1980’s rv. As for the speakers, the rv had factory small speakers in the dashboard. The speakers sounded good. Replacing just the speakers and powering them with the radio would not have made much of a difference in our opinion. To get better sound, we suggested an amplifier along with speakers. As for [member name removed]'s third point, the rear aux in setting was set incorrectly, again to our newest installer not being familiar with a radio that we have never stocked before. Not checking these specific issues is something that we regret and strive to do during every installation. We do not sell something we do not believe that you need. My installer truly believed that the aux line amp was needed. As soon as we had the facts that it was not needed, we gladly refunded the customer. The bare wires that were dangling were not from the radio that was removed, they were from something completely unrelated to what we did. Despite this, we gladly taped off the wires for the customer at no charge. For anyone taking the time to read this, please realize that we strive to offer the best in customer service and installation. We care deeply for our customer’s and do our best to provide them with the best possible service that we can.

My infant son had put in coins in the DVD player slot which eventually caused to stop playing. The dealer looked at it and quoted us at fixing it for $600 which was absolutely ridiculous. I called Bob and he was very helpful on the phone... also the only place that would look at our issue. Most places told us they don't deal with car specific theater systems. Bob was great and very friendly. We were able to get the issue fixed at a very reasonable price. I would recommend this business to anyone who has similar car stereo/entertainment/accessory issues.

I stopped by Audio Electronics during the week after Christmas. I spoke to Billy about the issues I was having and what I was looking for in a replacement radio. He immediately went to a brand new Pioneer 3500 radio. He told me that it had only been in the store for a couple of hours and met all my requirements and had touch-screen. He then told me I could go to a larger screen (7? vs. 6.1?) for about $100 if I moved up to the 4500. The difference in size doesn?t seem like much when written, but there is a big different when the two models are compared, side-by-side. I decided on the Pioneer 4500 and we set up an installation date. I wanted to be able to answer the phone without reaching for the radio and Billy spoke with the tech and they were able to convert the ?mode? button on my steering wheel to answer the phone when it rang. I brought my van back on the scheduled date. The team was ready for me. Billy double-checked a couple of the functionality specifications and told me it would be about 3 hours. I left the shop. I returned in about 2 ½ hours and the van was done. The radio looks great in the van. The installer used an insert that fits around the screen and conforms to the curves of the dash. The installation looks great. The radio functions just as I expected. It has great sound and automatically connects to my phone whenever I have it in the car. This was an overall terrific experience and if and when I replace this radio I will definitely go back to Audio Electronics.

I have no complaints and would send my family and friends to these people without reservations. I'm not what to put in words on how satisfied I was with this service. This type of professionalism is rare. The only reason I gave a D in punctuality is because they were 3.5 hrs over estimated time. A+++++++++ service Not sure why I can't submit the review without a home built year so I randomly selected 1973 because they have been in business for 30 or 40 yrs.
Description of Work: I have 2008 Dodge ram that I attempted to install 2 subs, and 2 amps. I had spent 6 hrs trying to get installed myself retaining the factory deck. I have the infinity 7 speaker system from the factory. I purchased the adapters from an internet site that would give me rca outputs for the installation of the amps. It was a nightmare and a very complicated install. I wasn't having any success. That's when I got on Angies list and seen that this company had the overall evaluation. I had the interior in my truck in pieces and they where able to get me in the next day. When I arrived they quoted me 2 hrs and some others devises that would be needed to install. Turns out they where unaware of how hard and complicated the factory system was as well. It took them 5.5 hrs to complete, 3.5 hrs over the original quote. They keep to the original quote and price and accepted the $10 coupon that I printed from Angies list. This is a top notch and company and I will be a repeat customer and refer my family and friends to them. I had to use the restroom a few times which is located in the install shop. I noticed signs posted everywhere in the install shop stating the importance of the customer and how to treat them with respect and outstanding service. I believe they do just that, this is a customer first business. Mike was the name of the guy who gave me the quote, not sure of the name of the person who installed my equipment. The system sounds great and I thank you for your service.

My wife & daughter somehow broke the auxiliary plug in my daughter's car. They had actually pushed it in somehow and there was no way for us to fix it. My daughter & I went up to Audio Electronics on 7/14 to talk to them to see about repairs. We liked what we heard so I brought it back on the 21st for the service. The salesperson who assisted me was Seth Halstead . he was very professional & drilled down to determine the best fix. They took it back into their repair area & less then an hour later I was driving back home after a seamless repair & my daughter can once again listen to her music again. :-) From store owner Bob Nevitt on down everyone there has always been very helpful, knowledgeable & courteous. If you need an upgraded sound in your vehicle, a remote starter or like myself a repair I highly recommend them.

I was unable to use the CD player/changer in my 2004 Honda because a CD was jammed and would not play or eject. After researching a few service providers on Angie's list, I stopped by Audio Electronics when I was unexpectedly in the area with time to kill. Without an appointment, they managed to remove the CD player/radio that afternoon, knowing that I was about to go out of town and that the auto would be idle for much of the time the player/radio would be removed for repair. Within a week to 10 days, the player/changer/radio was repaired and I set up an appointment to get it reinstalled. I was very pleased that they accommodated my busy schedule, and I was able to continue working on my laptop while waiting on site for them to remove and reinstall the CD player/changer/radio. They were extremely professional and I recommend them. I thought the price was a little high, however, it was consistent with the estimate I was given. And I obviously believed a functional CD player was worth the quoted cost, or I would not have agreed to let them do it.

I had an appointment so they took me right in and finished in about 1-1/2 hours. The only (minor) thing that I was disappointed about was that the coupon on the Angies List page for Audio Electronics which was labeled "Service" at the top was not accepted since the verbiage on the coupon itself didn't say "service", it said good for products, just like the other coupon.
Description of Work: I had an old, factory radio removed from my car and a new Pionerr car stereo installed in its place. The technicians were courteous and did their job quickly. Plus, they had a lot of knowledge about audio systems and I felt like they did a terrific job. They asked me questions along the way so I felt that they did exactly what I wanted them to do.

friendly. After getting a recommendation from Christoph at Euro Motorworks ( a great car place) and checking out the reviews on Angies List I emailed Audio Electronics about a remote starter & a different radio for my daughters car. The owner Bob was very prompt in his reply to my inquiry and told me that because of this car's set up changing radios was problematic but they could do an adaptor that would accomplish my objective. I stopped by today and dealt with a very pleasant & knowledgeable salesperson named Mike Nevitt . He explained my options thoroughly & wasn't high pressure at all. The price was in line with what Bob had told me it was in the email. The entire staff was very helpful & friendly. When Bob & his manager Seth talk about wanting to satisfy the customer they apparently make sure the entire staff is on board with that. If I do go forward with this it will be there at Audio Electronics due to these traits.

We wanted to upgrade the radios in two of our vehicles, and to add a DVD-player to keep grandkids occupied for long drives. Audio Electronics was able to obtain and install the necessary equipment in a reasonable amount of time. When there was a problem with the DVD player, they were able to contact the supplier, who was able to contact the manufacturer, in order to get the player to work properly (it was a matter of changing the player's Zone). We were very pleased with the compendence and professionalism of the Audio Electronics staff.
Description of Work: Several installations over a week: Honda Odyssey--New radio that would work with IPod; ceilling mounted DVD player with wireless headphones. Honda CRV--Upgrade to existing radio/navigation to receive HD radio.

The installation went well. They were able to get most of the new equipment working the same day I purchased the equipment. They were missing one part, so I had to go back a couple of days later but they got me right in and finished up quickly. I had a few questions afterward and the staff was happy to help me with them. They even provided some trouble shooting over the phone and saved me a trip back (the problem was on my end, not theirs). I've used this vendor several times and I always have had a good experience.
Description of Work: Company installed an after-market audio deck along with an in-line amplifier and after-market steering controls.
