I needed a locksmith to open a door urgently. I did a Google search and found several choices. This was the second one I tried. American Locksmith told me they could send someone to my house in about half hour, and the locksmith would call me soon. I asked about costs, and they told me that the fee for the locksmith to "show up" was $19.99, and on top of that, the service would cost $30 or more, depending on the job. When the locksmith called, I missed the call because I was on the other line. So I called American locksmith again to try to return the locksmith's call (as he would not answer when I called him back on the phone number from which he called. hen I called again, it took a long time to get them to answer. Then they told me that I had to now give them my full credit card information because they know I had called other locksmiths. I gave it to them. A locksmith called and told me he was on his way, after he confirmed that I had provided my credit card information already. I asked him for his name and he was reluctant to give it to me. He told me his name was Sean (or Shawn). Two locksmiths showed up from American Locksmith. The first one to show up was Igor. Igor was still at my house when Sean (or Shawn) showed up. So, I gave the job to Sean (or Shawn). He told me that the job was very difficult, and he would have to destroy the lock. Because of this, he told me the job would cost $150.00 I asked why, and he said that it was because the job was very difficult and it would take at least half-hour. I reluctantly said OK. He made me sign a paper accepting the fee. When I did, he started the hob and took about 4 minutes to drill a hole through the lock and open the door. I told the locksmith that he had taken a lot less time in the job that he had told me, and asked him why he still wanted to charge me the $150.00. He said that it was because he is "knew what he was doing" and charged for "the job". To me, he took advantage of me, and/or American Locksmith is using deceptive advertising.

Provided advertised being local but are not. Quoted a price on the phone of not more than $50. Got lost.... which was strange since they were supposed to be local. Took over an hour to arrive. Then charged $118 Be careful with this provider. Mad I didn't do more research...

Did not turn up on time. Work done was shoddy. One of the locks was left loose in the door and I had to tighten it before door could be locked. Key used was non standard and so could not be replicated anywhere in Indianapolis, (tried Mendards, Lowes, 2 x Home Depot etc all to no avail). Price quoted was nothing like the price finally charged. The price, exhorbitant as it was, had to bepaid as we needed to secure the business premises. Called the next day (a Saturday admittedly) to get problem fixed, they refused to acknowledge that there was a problem and did not return calls. After 5 hours and several calls with increasing frustration was advised that they could not come out again till 10:00 Monday. At 11:30 Monday still no sign of locksmith. Finaly got hold of someone after two calls to their headquarters. They said they had tried to call me - a bald faced lie. By this time I was extremely frustrated (and I confess none too polite) and requested my money back. They refused and told me that they would get another locksmith out. Midafternnon Monday the same contractor that did poor work originaly turned up on site. Not happy! Not left with any choice got the locks changed to operate off a standard key. Got additional keys cut that afternoon but still do not have keys that will open all doors. I now have keys that will work in some doors and not others and some that do not work at all. To be honest I am not sure if this is a key cutting problem or a locksmith problem. I am getting another locksmith out tomorrow to have the problem fixed once and for all. They at least sound competent. Be warned American Locksmith Services are incompetent. I will not be using their services again.
