 + -1 moreBarry was able to work on the doors in our house within a week of my initial call. Total cost for installing hardware and rekeying all the locks to match was $317. I did buy the lock sets myself (additional cost to Barry's charge) at his recommendation to get the job done faster without having to order any locks. Barry stayed till the job was done. I really appreciate his time and ability to help us so quickly.

 + -1 moreThe whole job went smoothly, because Barry was prepared to deal with these older locks. He carries everything with him in his truck, and from start to finish, it took about 45 minutes. I had used Altic Lock Service at my home several years ago, so I remembered him for my business needs.
Description of Work: We recently purchased a building that needed the locks re-keyed and several new spare keys. The lock was somewhat non-standard, as it wasn't a typical Kwikset or Schlage lock. When I mentioned it to Barry, the Altic Lock Service owner, he said that it was an older manufacturer that specialized in commercial locks. He said that he would come prepared.

I showed him what I wanted - he saved me some money by suggested rekeying the back patio lock instead of getting an all new lock, which I had been prepared to do.  + -1 moreMr. Campbell was lovely. I called him on a Saturday morning, and he was out here four hours later. He was professional, explained the whole process to me, and was in and out in less than 90 minutes -- and he didn't (at least visibly) balk at the horrific barking that my two Mastiffs made when he got into the house. That takes courage and determination, right? The locks work way better than they ever did. He was really honest, too. I could not find a key to one of the locks and he told me that it would cost 30 dollars, but then he figured out a way to re-key it from inside, so he did not charge me. I definitely recommend him, and I most definitely would use his services again if I needed to. So this teacher says, A+ and 2 Thumbs UP for Altic Lock Services!

Could perhaps have taken the easy way out, but chose to first try to preserve the lock so I could use it again if I ever find the key. And he was successful at that. He had it removed in about 20minutes, purely by picking it. No saw or bolt cutters.
Description of Work: Removed a lock for which I had lost the key. Was a trailer tongue (hitch) lock...that prevents someone from hitching up and taking away my trailer. Unfortunately, it was also preventing me from using it!

 + -1 moreOur front door latch/know came loose & we feared it was broken. I contacted Altic Lock on Monday afternoon & Barry was able to come out later that day. I can't say enough about his work. Very methodical in taking the time to see if it needed to be replaced or fixed. Due to his efforts he was able to fix it & save us from buying another handle lock set that would have cost over $125. My wife also asked him about re-keying some locks and after he asked us some questions told us he'd be happy to do it but it wasn't really worth the cost for how we used it. Love the honesty even when it cost him money! I always enjoy dealing with honest straightforward professionals & Barry certainly qualifies . I wouldn't hesitate to use him for any of my locksmith needs in the future & I highly recommend Altic!

We discussed all repairs and I received a cost prior to Barry performing the work. I have a sliding back patio door. Despite Barry offering products to increase the security of patio doors Barry informed me that my sliding door was secure and additional security measures wouldn't be of benefit. One important factor for me in hiring Barry is that he doesn't use subcontractors. He is the owner and he performs the work. Now that's quality control. I will absolutely use Barry in the future and recommend him to family and friends.

 + -1 moreBarry is very professional - and obviously experienced and knowledgeable. He's "low-key" (pun intended) and personable. The front door lock works more smoothly than it has since the house was built. The door between the garage and the house took some analyzing and creativity. I hadn't noticed that the spacing between the door and the frame were off, as well as the strike-plate positioning. He added some spacers to the hinges, fixed the strike plate and re-placed the lock/closure mechanism. Again, works better than when the house was new 13 years ago. All was done in a very timely manner, and at what we thought was a very reasonable price! Would highly recommend his services.

 + -1 moreHe showed up five minutes early. On the phone, I'd discussed rekeying six locks, but had decided that I really needed nine locks rekeyed and two new deadbolts installed. Not a problem. He gave me a discount for the large order, did some repair work to one of my jambs for free, threw in five keys for free, and finished the whole job in just over two hours. The deadbolts he installed are very high quality--the best ones in the house. I will be using Altic again and recommending him to friends.

 + -1 moreBoth projects went extremely well. The only real difficulty he had was due to a defect in the door itself. However he was able to overcome the problem and get the electronic deadbolt installed. All of the installations were done very professionally and they look flawless. I now have greatly enhanced door security as well as having only one key to open any door. I also have the ability to unlock my front door remotely as well as check the status of the door (locked vs. unlocked). Barry is professional, courteous, knowledgeable and meticulous. A great combination of attributes! I am able to recommend him very highly and will certainly use him in the future if I have the need. A pleasure to work with!
Description of Work: I had Barry do work for me on two occasions. The first time around I had him install the "Door Devil" (security hardware that makes a door virtually kick-proof) on all 5 of my exterior doors. In addition he added a dead-bolt to the door from the house into the garage, swapped out some door hardware and did some re-keying. He spent a lot of time making sure that everything was done perfectly and cleaning up what little mess was left over. I was very impressed with his professionalism and attention to detail. The cost for this project was ~$800 but that price included all of the hardware. Since the first job went so well, I had him back to do some additional work. This time he again changed out some door hardware and he was able to re-key every lock (a total of 9) to work off one key. The major project on the second visit however was the installation of a Yale Real Living Touchscreen deadbolt with Z-Wave capability (i.e. the lock can be controlled from your PC or from an app on your smartphone). He ran into some problems with this installation due to a defect in the door itself. Despite that he was able to get the deadbolt installed and working (at least from a mechanical standpoint). He is not a "programming guy" so the electronic part was left to me. I was up to the challenge and I now have a front door lock that can be unlocked with a key, by tapping in a passcode on the touchscreen, or by a command from my iPhone. And every exterior lock in the house uses the same key! Bonus! The cost for this project was ~$300 and once again included all hardware (except the electronic deadbolt which I got from Amazon.com).

 + -1 moreFrom the moment I called, I knew it was going to be a good experience. It was a Sunday and Altic was more than willing to come out and check the door - especially when the weather predictions were for below zero temperatures the next day. On the phone he asked a series of questions to try and give me an estimate up front so there wouldn't be sticker shock when the work was completed. While I didn't expect it - I was pleased. When I originally called we thought it would be a simple door opening, but it turned into a lock replacement. After trying every means possible to open the existing lock the only alternative was to drill the old one and do a total replacement. Again, he quoted the additional charges even before starting the work. Once the lock was removed he showed me where the problem was and why we couldn't get the old lock to cooperate. He rekeyed the lock to match my existing key and I didn't have to ask. Good service and fair price all around!
